Great lightweight cabinet for gigs

By W on October 3, 2021

Recently purchased and gigged with the GK Neo IV 1x15.

Something very important to note first- the cabinet that I received had NL2 style Speakon connectors. These are not compatible with the more common NL4 connectors. I actually had to special order a cable last minute so I could gig with it. Last I checked, Sweetwater didn't even stock NL2 cables (at least online).

The cabinet is quite expensive. What you get for the money is a cabinet that is light, compact, and seems to be relatively ridged and well damped. The speaker is pretty efficient, and can move a lot of air.
I was initially underwhelmed using it at home, until I got to gig with it, and open it up for the first time.
After the set, the sound engineer let me know that it wasn't necessary to run the bass guitar through the house subs, because the GK was loud enough on its own. I welcome that, because it usually makes the sound for the audience better.

I would recommend this cabinet if you have a more compact vehicle, a bad back, or just want a cabinet with a small footprint that can get quite loud with low distortion. I'm giving it four stars solely because of the price. I'm sure neodymium 15" speakers aren't cheap, but the price still feels $ more than it should be.

I also have a GK 115RBH. That cabinet sounds just as good if not better to my ears, and has a cabinet that is clearly superior. It is also currently $ cheaper than the 1x15 Neo IV. When I purchased my 115RBH quite a few years ago GK applied no internal damping, but the 11 ply birch is a far better cabinet. The trade off is almost 20 pounds of weight to haul, and a considerably larger cabinet structure.

Overall great for gigs.
