Korg Nautilus Reigns Supreme
I have owned 3 different Korg workstation models; The N364, Triton, and now the Nautilus. My Triton continues to produce relevant sounds, but I wanted to tap into the latest technology, so I began my search for a modern workstation. I thought I was missing out by having only ever owned Korg keyboards, so I decided to purchase the Yamaha MODX6+. All the YouTube reviews gave it high praise. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't connect with it as a musician. The plastic body is noticeable to any experienced keyboardist. Don't let anyone tell you it "feels expensive" because it doesn't. I returned it and replaced it with the Nautilus AT 61. It was the best decision I could have made.
The first thing I noticed was the build quality. It doesn't feel like a toy, it immediately feels like a pro level instrument. It has a sexy design that shouts "play me!". When you do, those keys are the high-quality keys Korg has been known for. It is immensely satisfying to play on, which is important when you're trying to connect with your instrument, and in turn, connect with the song/mood you're going for.
The sounds are the same as the now retired flagship Kronos. There are hundreds of ready-to-use programs and combinations, but much like most modern workstations, there is room to expand. Through the Korg website, and independent creators, you can download and easily install a rich expansion of sounds.
I do miss the extra sliders and buttons that were on the Triton. On the Nautilus you either have to prepare your sound setlist ahead of time or be prepared to be touchscreen dependent. I went the setlist route, so I have no issues.
This keyboard is the best bang for your buck, and I still feel like I got more than I paid for. This review could easily be 3x longer. I can't say enough good things about it.
