D'Addario NYXL1156 NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .011-.056 Medium Top/ Extra Heavy Bottom Reviews

.011-.056 Medium Top/Extra Heavy Bottom Gauge Electric Guitar Strings, Nickel Wound

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

D'Addario User of 30 years

By Aonghus William MacCready from PA - Pennsylvania on January 10, 2021 Music Background: 30 years gigging Singer, Guitarist, and Bassist. Currently building Vulture Hill Sound Studio, VHS and a Gear Company

I have always used D'Addario strings. and was thrilled when they pioneered ethical packaging. I started using the NYXL 11-56 for my C standard and Drop B tunings. I bend chords a lot like Tony Iommi and Matt Pike and this gauge is perfect for C standard tunings if you like a little slack for trills and such. Not only will these... not break, but I have also had the same set of NYXL 11-56 on my 77 Yamaha SG800 Japanese Lawsuit with Kahler double locking, for 3 years! MY MAIN guitar!. They never go out of tune, and the bending I can get away with without breaking is just insane!!! I admit I still have to solder the first few strings around the ball wrap to keep them from unraveling (I do bend pretty hard!) but if they, or any, string company comes up with a way to fix that, it would be nice. But otherwise, they are a HUGE IMPROVEMENT to a string brand I have used for over 30 years...

Drop B and C#

By CRW on December 16, 2020

NYXL's are my go to strings nowadays.
They feel greet and give off a nice sound that seems to last longer than others.
Haven't broke on me yet and I'd say they'll have a hard time being this thick.
Use this gauge for Drop B and C# Standard and the tension is perfect. I think I could go a step lighter for C# but I switch between the two and this holds up on both ends.

the 56-11 set is perfect for drop c, the tension is very nice and balanced, they hold tune better than anything i've tried, and they last forever lol

Might’ve found my strings

By Alex from Austin, TX on March 10, 2019

A lot of life, a lot of midrange pop in the beginning. I"ve been a EB user for almost as long as I"ve been playing, my favorite set being 10-52 cobalts. These are lasting longer, making the "59 in my guitar brighter (which I like), and are perfect for my tuning variations. Give them a shot!

Amazing strings for drop tuning

By Jeff from York, PA on September 13, 2017

I've used the D'Addario NYXL1156 strings for my band and these are my new go-to strings. The gauge is not heavy or too light for D-standard tuning. My band drops the low string to A (AGCFAD) and these strings handle it with no issues at all. If you're looking for great sounding strings for drop tuning, you can't go wrong with these!

Have to get 'em!

For me, this set of NYXL 11 gauge strings provides the best overall tone (clear bright highs and vibrant resounding lows) for my Fender Strat; especially on my cheap Squire Strat, making it sound like a more expensive guitar, along with its upgrade of EMG pickups (85-neck, SLV-middle, & 81-bridge) and Floyd Rose system. Robin Trower comes to mind when using with these strings. Guitarists who like playing blues, R&B, heavy metal, and a few other styles of rock, this is the set of strings for you!!!

Slightly lighter tension

By Dylan Adams from Portland, Tn on July 17, 2017 Music Background: Aggressive rock music

These strings are great, I really like the lifespan and almost a mid range push in the sound. My only complaint would be that the tension is slightly lighter than the standard D'addario nickel strings. These are marketed to be used in "D-Tuning", but I'd say these would work better for a half step down from concert pitch/standard tuning. Other than that complaint I love these strings.
