D'Addario NYXL1046 NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .010-.046 Regular Light (3-pack) Reviews

.010-.046 Regular Light Gauge Electric Guitar Strings, Nickel Wound - 3-pack

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

Great Strings

Best Performance Strings

By Sweetwater Customer on February 14, 2024

They last just a little more than regular exp D'addarios ...at least in a high humidity place like Panama where i live....but the tunning stability, bending feel and natural bright sound are unmatched.
I am not a profesional player. But each time i have a gig, i use these.
Just Perfect.

Awesome product, great sound

nor enough strings

By Sweetwater Customer on July 6, 2023

I opened a pack of D'addario strings from a box with three sets in it. I noticed right away that there were only 5 strings in the pack. No reflection on Sweetwater who have only given me excellent service. I am only writing this because it is the second time this has happened to me. One time two out of three packs had only 5 strings. I called Marc and he replaced them right away. Im not going to report it this time but I will be switching to Eureka strings tomorrow. Robert Keller Philadelphia

D’Addario strings

By Michael from Michigan on May 19, 2023 Music Background: Not a professional

Put these strings on as soon as I got them and can honestly say they didn't disappoint. I have a bad habit of pushing hard on my strings while playing so the light actually work out better for me than the Extra light.

Great sound and long life

By Sweetwater Customer from NY on February 16, 2023

These hold up, don't seem prone to breaking, even after using the trem they hold tune, and don't corrode.

Pretty happy with these

By Jack Rainer Pryor from Bellevue, NE on December 8, 2022

I will say there is a lot of marketing hocus pocus with these NYXL's, and I haven't found them to be significantly better than D'Addario's XL strings. That said, they are good and I do think they corrode much slower than "normal" strings. They don't last nearly as long as coated strings though.

I am happy that these aren't prone to breakage as some cheaper strings can be, and again they do seem to degrade much slower compared to an inexpensive type. This is nice because I own several guitars and often a set is on one instrument a long time. So it is nice to pick one up and discover not only do the strings still look nice, they feel and play well too.

As for tone, I've personally never noticed a big difference in strings, unless you factor in stuff like bronze vs steel, or thick vs. thin.

Anyway, I'll continue to use these wherever I can get them on sale or for discount, because I do like them and have been satisified.

The Best, Hands Down!

By Steve Edlen from Berkeley, CA on November 18, 2022 Music Background: Weekend Warrior

I've been playing electric guitar since I was 13 years old. I'm now 70 and I have used quite a few different brands of strings: Darco (.008 on top; they came with an extra high E string to allow for breakage. They were $1.50 a set from Manny's in New York), Ernie Ball, GHS, Thomastik-Enfeld, and Fender. These D'Addario strings are the absolute best! Good intonation, great feel, wonderful sound. I am using them on all my electric guitars and you should try a set.

Proven. NYXL

By Clay McDonald from South fork Colorado on October 14, 2022 Music Background: 40 years, play multiple instruments. Been in bands now just play for me

I've played 40 years and tried literally every string I could find. Some good, some bad. Good tone short life, or no tone no life. I hit hard times and am down to 1 last guitar a 2000 Chinese made squire. I had 1set of nyxls and 24 months ago I put them on it I play every day for at least and hour often longer. I am just now buying a 3pack of 10/46NYXL. for electric I'll never buy anything else. I'm still playing on those strings and sure the tone is about gone but not enough it won't tune. They are 2 year old and I'd bet close to 750 hours of good hard playing I bend and bend some more. blues, metal, rock, jazz I play a little of it all anyway best strings made for electric I've found yet, I was already using them on all my guitars til I was down to this last one. Trust me I am blown away at this set of strings. At the d'addario NYXL strings.

Always The Best

It doesn't matter if it's strings or $4000 guitars, Sweetwater and my sales guy Tyler are the best. I do shop around frequently but it's really a waste of time. Unless on the rare occasion I need something right away and Sweetwater doesn't have it in stock, I always end up bothering Tyler for the best price possible. He gives it to me straight and I appreciate that. Keep up the world class service! Thanks

The Only Strings I Will Buy

By Ross from Baytown, TX on June 29, 2022 Music Background: Guitar Nerd.

I have the world's worst case of sweaty-handitosis. Every string I have tried in my 30+ years of playing guitar has literally dissolved under my fingers, regardless of how often I cleaned them. Then I found the NYXL's. Not only do they last 4 times longer than every other string I've tried, they manage to do so while feeling and sounding better. They don't feel weird or overly slick like some other "long lasting" strings. They are also a dream to bend. However D'addario managed to pull this off, I am grateful they did. I won't buy any other strings if I can help it. Get ya some!!

Switched From Fender

By Brad "Bucky" Rogers from Nebraska on March 5, 2022 Music Background: Active Semi Pro Lead Guitar / Church Contemporary Service Leader

I am very particular about string sound/tone, feel, and stability, and had used Fender Nickel Super Bullets of a very unique set that I chose and had shipped in cases of 30 packs. A band mate tossed a set of NYXL to (at) me and and asked me to try them. After one set on my 'bedroom Strat' I noticed a possible new love, and put sets on two other 'stage Strats'. After a couple weeks of use I found the NYXL 10-46 were brighter - but not tinny with still a pronounced bass that doesn't get weak after a few nights. The biggest plus to these strings is the 'feel'. They seem - or feel - to be smoother than other brands, and make a night of slides and bends very pleasant. I needed to finish up a few sets of the Fenders, so compared the NYXL with Fender side by side on stage. In my opinion after a few songs with the NYXL's the Fender strings felt like they had a hard edge to the wrap that is very noticeable, and felt like my fingers drug more rather than glide with the NYXL. While a string cannot make you play better or faster, the NYXL feels quite smoother and has a longer 'new string tone' than others. I'm happy to say that I will be using the D'Addario NYXL for many years to come. It's worth it to everyone to at least try one set to feel a real difference.

Remarkable difference!

By Bob Bierwirth from Yachats OR on February 15, 2022 Music Background: Musician/ Composer / Recording Engineer / Producer RGB Recording, Yachats, OR.

I changed my Strat strings to these babies! I don't think it's just my imagination, but these strings have a remarkable difference in tone than what I replaced. What it says on the label is true. After, putting on the new set, I played and recorded for several hours before putting my guitar down because it sounded sooo good! You won't regret changing over to the NYXL. These strings are sweet! After playing guitar for 30 years I've tried lots & lots of different brands of strings. I kind of settled on the NYXL on my telecaster and Les Paul in the last several years.
I've received only one bad set out of 100's of sets I've been through.
They sound great & last a long time before going dead.

Great LONG lasting strings!

By Roland Knoepke from Holland, MI on February 9, 2021 Music Background: Lots of bands from Rock to Jazz. Now only play at church and benefits! Praise God!

Other brands and types of strings went flat or hard to tune after only a few weeks. I started using NYXL's a couple of years ago and noticed a huge difference. I pulled out my Strat after not using it for a while and wondered why it sounded good, but a little hard to tune. Then I checked and the strings were almost a year and a half old! Put a new set on and 2 months later they are as good as new. Won't use anything else!!

Bright, Warm and Loud

By Sweetwater Customer from Delaware on February 1, 2021 Music Background: Experienced Guitarist

Around two years ago, a Luthier recommended NYXL strings. I was playing Ernie Ball Paradigm's, which sounded just ok but I found they didn't last as long. These are the most versatile strings I've ever used - I've played a smooth jazz gig, soloist/rock leads, fusion...these strings will take just about anything you throw at them. Pick them up and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Excellent Strings If You Like 10's

By Don from Florida on December 7, 2020 Music Background: Songwriter, Guitarist, Home Recorder and Producer

These strings are a real value in the Three-Pack on the Sweetwater site, if you play, like, or want to experiment with 10-46's coated Nickel Strings. Long-lasting and a really good match for bringing out the Tones I prefer on my Player SSS Stratocaster. I play D'Addario Chrome Flat-Wound XL 10-48's on my Tele Deluxe, but prefer these on my Strat.

By Jake from The High Desert on November 15, 2020 Music Background: Playing guitar for almost my whole 20 years of life

I never realized how much strings actually mattered and I've played almost every day for about 3-4 years haha. I've always used Ernie Ball Super Slinky 10s but recently wanted to try out some other brands since I got a new guitar. The strings are super comfortable from the get go and they sound great whether you're plugged into an amp or not. I'm definitely gonna start using these more

Outstanding sound

By Leo M. from Moraga, CA on November 14, 2020

Back when I moved from regular D'Addario 10 gauge (EXL) to these NYXL's, also in 10, I was amazed at how much better the sound was (particularly in my semi-hollow Ibanez Artcore AS73, which has a rich, nuanced sound of its own). They sound to me fuller and richer. The brights are brighter and the mids are full. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to replace my 6 month old NYXL set with a fresh set of regular EXL that I still had hanging around, just for kicks. I was expecting better sound, since nothing beats the sound of fresh strings. NOPE. First time in my life that a fresh set underperforms the older set coming out. Wow.

For reference, I have also used the super popular Ernie Ball Slinkie's in different gauges. Those are fine, too, but the sound, stability and durability of these high carbon strings is something else. Worth a try if you haven't. And they do last quite some time without noticeable degradation.

Perfect for ALL types of music

By Justin from Durham, NC on October 26, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

These strings are fantastic. Period. I mostly play death/doom metal with low tuning, and these strings add a new level of clarity of warmth I've never felt before. They also sound phenomenal when playing clean tones. Not to mention they can bent all the way to hell and back and they'll stay in tune. I can't see myself using any other set of strings for the foreseeable future.

Also, a shoutout to Jon Krempel, who very quickly sent me a replacement set of these when I told him I wasn't happy with the Light Top Heavy Bottom version. Sweetwater is the best.

I tried these strings at the suggestion of a friend. I was told they never go out of tune. I didn't think much of it and put them on. I liked the feel and the response. Nice strings. Later I noticed they really stay in tune. Not a big deal but a little bonus. Really like the way they play.

I was an Ernie Ball Slinky guy for 30 years but after trying these I'm never going back. The NYXL's feel better, hold tuning better, sound better and last twice as long. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for. Props to sales representative Mac Hatton for getting them to me fast and trouble free!

Ordered late in the afternoon and the strings were shipped that night. Normal Sweetwater excellence. These guys/girls know what service means. Packaged well from SW. The product packaging from D'Addario is great. Airtight packaging keep the strings pristine. Got 'em into my Strat and they sound great. Feel great. Nice. Jacob followed up as though I'd ordered a $4000 guitar. Buying at Sweetwater is truly a unique and high quality service experience. Someday soon, fingers crossed, it'll be that guitar I mentioned.

Believe The Hype!

By Ryan from Northern West Virginia on May 22, 2019 Music Background: Guitar player since 1991

What can I say? I"ve been playing guitar for over 25 years and have always trusted D"Addario for my string and accessory needs. I"ve used everything from Ernie Ball to GHS to SIT and no other product from any other manufacturer compares to the quality and tone of D"Addario strings. As a longtime user of their XL line, the NYXL line takes durability and tone to another level. I get more than twice the life out of the NYXL"s, while maintaining impeccable tuning stability and superior tone. These just sound that much better.

I tend to keep a modest supply of string sets available, and considering the NYXL1046"s are my most commonly used gauge, I"m always willing to pick up a 3-Pack, while saving about $2 per set.

Try a set of NYXL"s yourself and you won"t believe what you"ve been missing!

You won’t be sorry you bought these strings

By Michael O’Droski from Westland ,Michigan on March 9, 2019 Music Background: Professional 38 years

I bought these strings after a lot of research. I previously was using Blue steel strings but they are currently unavailable everywhere. I used them on every guitar that I own and I needed tone and realiabilty. I recently purchased a Wolfgang standard also through Sweetwater and had it plekked and chose these strings to try out on the guitar. Well the minute I played the guitar the strings felt like they were already broke in. After a few fine tunings they"ve stayed in tune and they sound great. They are bright without being to bright and are also balanced. And since they are on a EVH guitar they get a whammy bar workout. Yes I"ve only had them about a week but I"ve put in about two weeks of normal playing on them. Overall 10"s across the board or 5"s whatever is the highest rating. Watch the video on these strings if you"re on the fence they know what they are doing.

These are by far the best strings I have ever used . They last longer and sound better then any set of strings I have tried. Feels really good to . I know it's all subjective to the user and preferences but I have tried other big brand strings . They all just fall short compared to these . Some are good but dont last long or just won't stay in tune . These nyxl strings by daddario or the best I have tried in my 15 years of playing

D*** fine strings from USA

By Shane Sublett from Marshall, NC on June 6, 2018

I began with other string brands. I go from playing daily to just letting my axes sit in a 70%RH basement. Other non coated brands were rusting up in a matter of days. I decided to try the NYXL after some greasy elixirs, and WOW! Amazing clarity, stable on my les with wammy after a few tugs, and they seem to be lasting me MONTHS instead of days. I religiously use fast fret after playing, but even so, these are performing better than others. I have yet to break a string and MAN do I swing that tremo like an idiot. I am also comforted in the fact the D addario WILL stand behind their products and take care of you if you need. These are a little tough on my frets, but i blame poor technique. I also note that these are about as 'sharp' edged I can play on before my baby hands start to complain. Win, win, win. I just restrung a friends les and tossed him a 3 pack. Now i have a 3 pack to buy and i bet you $100 he's going to be hooked! The ONLY strings I keep on my axes and the only company i use on my bass. Way to go D'addario!

3-Pack strings

Excellent strings. Practice 6 days a week, 1 rehearsal a week, and more performances coming in. These strings take a beating as lead/rhythm guitarist, but I go to headstock tuner quickly if I bend a lot. Love a well-tuned guitar. They last weeks, depending on jobs. I like fresh strings, and don't mind changing them. Lemon oil the fretboard, clean and tune, and ready to go. Until something better comes along, I'm sticking with D'ADDARIO'S. Highly recommended, with excellent service at Sweetwater. Thanks Chris.

These are the best guitar strings on planet earth. No joke.

I noticed a very definite improvement in overall sound on all 3 of my guitars.

Not only did the tone improve but, sound is more clear and louder.
These strings feel great too, not so much light and wimpy.

They may seem a little pricey but, you get what you pay for.
I will buy these as long as they make them.

A VERY Special Set of strings....

By Chet Nichols from United States on November 9, 2017 Music Background: Singer-songwriter, Producer, composer, Multi-instrumentalist

(This is part of a two string set review...the string sets where different types of D'Addario strings)

I've haven't bought strings for some time....that is until I broke a couple stings and found I was basically out of strings, so I went to Sweetwater's site and started poking around.... I saw these AND a 3 pack of the regular D'Addario XL strings (see previous review).

I bought the regular XLS, BUT I was looking for a very special set go strings to use on my slide guitar......so, I paid a wee bit more and got the NY XLs. Great choice....nothing too noisey, full-sounding with some extra warmth built in....and I gotta say I fell in love these strings from the first scales. The strings have a beautiful, all-around sound....with some subtle extra richness....at the same time, they SING when I crank-up the gain. I am very happy with these. Smooth, baby, smooth. Thanks, again, Sweetwater (and James Masterson) for the great service and pricing!

I have the worlds worst case of sweaty hand-itosis. I corrode strings so fast it's like a super power. That said, I have tried every kind of string imaginable to combat this curse. The NYXLs are the first strings that feel and sound great while still standing up to my dark gift. They far outlast all others as long as I clean them after each use. Can't recommend them enough. Worth every penny.

The best.

By Daniel Lang from Parma, OH on April 24, 2017

I'd always favored the DR strings because they preserve the their tone the longest of any other string until now. These strings seem to be equivalent in preserving the natural guitar sound AND seem to stretch better and return to pitch. Recommended to me by a friend who David Grissom (his friend) introduced them to. If D.G. likes them, I figured they were worth a try. My first couple sets came free, from my Memphis connection, and I've been using the original strings for weeks, or months now and they still sound sweet. Highly recommend these revolutionary strings to anyone with multiple guitars that need them to last longer to keep the quality of tone high and the expense of feeding the herd low.

NYXL Strings

By DGB from OK on October 6, 2016 Music Background: I like playing, and making music.

I don't normally talk about strings, have tried lots of different makes,
I have to say these are my favorite strings to date, they take some stick, bend , very stable , keep there tone for a long time, they feel good and sound great. My only small criticism is
I wish they were a little cheaper .
Other than that these are first class Strings very musical.

Versatile, Clean-Sounding Strings with Nice Bend

By Dylan C. Beck from Kansas City, MO on April 20, 2021 Music Background: multi-instrumentalist with A Real Echoey Approach + Carlo dell'Aquila + Heidi Klum's Bangs

I chose to give these strings a try based on the fact that Kerry McCoy of deafheaven uses these strings. I found the strings to be quite versatile in terms of possible textures and sounds (they work well for melodic, jangly chords as well as chunky riffs and virtuosic solos), and they have a lot of give, so it is possible to get some nice bends out of them. Unfortunately, these strings feel a bit more flimsy (or maybe just less meaty) than my old Ernie Ball Skinny Bottom Heavy Top strings, so I have had to adjust a bit. Overall, I like the strings a lot!

EXCELLENT STRINGS

Great Strings

By Norm Street from Gold Bar, WA on April 26, 2021

I started using the D'Addario NYXL1046 a while ago after trying D'Addario ECG24 flat wound strings on my Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin. I had used GHS Boomer literally for decades on my electric guitars. However, after opening some unused packs of GHS Boomers and finding pre-existing corrosion on the strings, which made them break a lot easier, I decided it was time to try something else. I have been extremely happy with the quality and playability of the D'Addario strings. I would have given them 5-stars except that they are very expensive compared to other brands.

Are they worth it?

By Todd M Scott from IL on November 13, 2020

These have a good feel, slinky but not floppy or limp, including lower tuning and drop D; clear articulation and note separation; bend very nicely, good harmonic response. I don't know that these sound perceptibly that different from Ernie Balls or D'Addario XL, but they have a good feel. Coating does not seem to have any impact on tone and tarnish is z minimum. Biggest pro - tuning. These strings hold tune very well, especially right after stringing. Never had a new set of strings get and hold tuning as well. So, question is - is it worth the cost of 2 or 3 sets of strings? If it means these keep their life for as long as 2 sets do...yes!

Now are good strings? Yes! Not the tone and feel that i wanted. So for other players they be what you are looking for all you can do is try and see! Thanks sweet water for getting them to me fast!

Broke High E string

By Sweetwater Customer on August 28, 2021 Music Background: Experienced

I've broken the 1st E sting on 2 different guitars and I never break strings. I like the tone but the high E is problematic for me.

Good for beginners, not for players using them a lot

Was a user of D'addario's for a long time but they aren't the most long lasting, or strong at all. As I started to play more and more they were obviously not lasting as long as they had been before. I play for multiple hours a day and a lot of blues stuff which puts a lot of strain on the strings. These strings were just not meant for that and sometimes that high E could break just over the course of a weekend from friday to monday if I'd been playing a lot. These were what I used as a beginner guitarist and they worked great but as I kept playing more they weren't right for me, even being the "beefed up" NYXL's.

Bend well??

I couldn't tell ya... They didn't even survive initial tuning/stretching and I even made sure to go EXTRA slow and allow more time than was necessary between adding tension. I'm assuming I got defective junk, because no one else seems to have had this issue... I'm not risking.... Major Fail

D'Addario NYXL1046 Nickel Wound Electric Strings .010 - .046 Regular

By BLUESSAUCE from DETROIT MICHIGAN on December 13, 2020 Music Background: I LIKE PLAYING MY MANY GUITARS

These strings are REALLY HARD and don't have much give. They don't ring very well. Don't buy them you will not like them.
They are not worth the money you have to spend for them...
