D'Addario NYXL1046 NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .010-.046 Regular Light Reviews
D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

Perfection
Admittedly I am a beginner with the guitar, but I've been trying different strings to see what I like, and these have blown me away. Whether playing clean tones or turning the gain all the way up, these sound amazing. And stay in tune!
Worth it
I've never really cared that much about which brand or type of strings I play, but I bought a guitar that came with NYXLs and since then I've been sold. Yes, they are more expensive but they're super comfortable to play and they'll last longer than your typical Ernie Balls or whatever else. I think theyre definitely worth the extra few bucks and now they're pretty much the only strings I buy.
These are cool.
They're really cool, they sound good. They look good. They play well too. They last seemingly forever. I play everyday and most of the time I only find myself changing strings before shows or recording. I never feel like I NEED to change my strings with these. They never seem to rust under your fingers, though their age is noticeable once you take them off the guitar. Overall 10/10
My favorite strings I've ever used, period
My world was changed as soon as I put on my first set of NYXL's. The first thing that hit me was how quickly they settled in tune; I basically had to do no extra bending or wearing before I was no longer fussing with tuning at all. NYXL's also have a really appealing tone. There's a distinct push of midrange presence, the heart of most guitar tone, that really helps keep my guitar sound very articulate without being too bright or harsh. I'm finally using my tone knob again, yet things never sound too brittle when my tone is rolled all the way up! I don't see myself using any other electric strings for a looong while.
Consistent quality ,great tone
These are by far the best strings I have ever used . They last longer and sound better then any set of strings I have tried. Feels really good to . I know it's all subjective to the user and preferences but I have tried other big brand strings . They all just fall short compared to these . Some are good but dont last long or just won't stay in tune . These nyxl strings by daddario or the best I have tried in my 15 years of playing
Great Tone, Great Feel
I will admit that I am not yet well versed in a wide variety of strings, but I had heard great things about the NYXL line of strings and decided to try them out. Immediately they felt great and sounded great. I could feel my guitar in a whole new way. I"ll be sticking with these strings for a while.
Best Strings ever
I used D'Addario EXLs for over 20 years. When the NYXLs came out I was hesitant to try them due to the price and I was very happy with the EXLs so why change? I can't remember exactly what prompted me to finally give them a go, but once I did I couldn't look back The NYXLs are simply the best strings ever. They last forever and retain their tone for a lot longer than the EXLs. I used to changes my strings after a gig most of the time or at least after a week if I had multiple gigs. With the NYXLs I wipe them down and I keep them on for while. Usually I lose track of how long they have been on. I also can't seem to break them like I periodically did the EXLs. Yes they are more expensive, but the cost is definitely justified.
Best Strings Ever
Been playing Ernie Ball for years. Decided to see what all the " hype" is about. I noticed more umph with these strings. Stay in tune well and feel right under the fingers. A bit pricy but well worth it!!
Tone The strings have it
OK i been using Ernie Ball Para Digm Strings that been using for a while now.
So I order D'Addario NYXL these strings right away the tone cut threw not flat like the other have been. everything about them feed great! Love the tone For the money never go wrong!
Finally! The
After 32 years of playing anything with strings on it I feel that for ME, these NYXL's are the best quality standards. They stay clean and corrosion free a noticeably longer amount of time even under near daily jamming/gig use. Very impressed!
The Best
These are the best guitar strings on planet earth. No joke.
I noticed a very definite improvement in overall sound on all 3 of my guitars.
Not only did the tone improve but, sound is more clear and louder.
These strings feel great too, not so much light and wimpy.
They may seem a little pricey but, you get what you pay for.
I will buy these as long as they make them.
A VERY Special Set of strings....
(This is part of a two string set review...the string sets where different types of D'Addario strings)
I've haven't bought strings for some time....that is until I broke a couple stings and found I was basically out of strings, so I went to Sweetwater's site and started poking around.... I saw these AND a 3 pack of the regular D'Addario XL strings (see previous review).
I bought the regular XLS, BUT I was looking for a very special set go strings to use on my slide guitar......so, I paid a wee bit more and got the NY XLs. Great choice....nothing too noisey, full-sounding with some extra warmth built in....and I gotta say I fell in love these strings from the first scales. The strings have a beautiful, all-around sound....with some subtle extra richness....at the same time, they SING when I crank-up the gain. I am very happy with these. Smooth, baby, smooth. Thanks, again, Sweetwater (and James Masterson) for the great service and pricing!
What a difference!
I'm a long-time acoustic guitar player, and picked up electric over the past year. I've been using the Cleartone lights on a Gibson ES-339 Studio. (Tried the Elixir lights, didn't like them.) Based on some reviews I decided to try the NYXL Lights. What an amazing difference! I used them yesterday for 2 services on our church's worship team. They completely changed both the feel and the sound of my guitar for the better. Perfect tone, and the playability is awesome! They feel like butter.
NYXL Strings
I don't normally talk about strings, have tried lots of different makes,
I have to say these are my favorite strings to date, they take some stick, bend , very stable , keep there tone for a long time, they feel good and sound great. My only small criticism is
I wish they were a little cheaper .
Other than that these are first class Strings very musical.
The best!
These strings stay in tune better than any I've used. The output level is greater also. You get what you pay for with these strings...not just hipe!
WOW!!!
I received a set of these during the Beta test for D'Addario, and all I can say is WOW!!! Cannot rave about these strings enough. I have always used D'Addario strings and never had any idea they could get better...I was however, wrong. These are standard on all of my guitars.
Five sets instead of One
I had been waiting awhile for sweetwater to stock these strings because I love their service. When I ordered these strings, I was only expecting one set. However, what I got was a box that had a total of 5 sets of NYXLs! Thanks Sweetwater!!!!
Sound great and will stay in tune!
People here are saying they won't stay in tune. Most likely its not the strings. Check the nut. There are great products out there to lubricate the nut like big bends nut sauce. It works great much better than lead or chap stick.
Very Nice
Very nice strings overall. Very little break in time. Feels great to play. Excellent tone. These are my new go-to strings.
Great Strings
Fantastic strings. For me and my body chemistry the strings hold up very well and do not corrode. Bright and articulate and holds tuning very well. New set of strings I only have to stretch and re-tune once and they are locked in.
NYXL strings 10-46
These are really good strings, response is excellent. I have them on an American Strat. I will try a slightly heavier gauge next time as I feel them may be too thin sounding for that guitar.
Great Sound and Feel
Excellent sounding strings. Lots of clarity and ring. Great feel when I bend strings.
Two issues:
1. Might need to change more often then regular strings. I felt they went "dead" quicker then my Ernie Ball Regular Slinky.
2. A bit pricey.
Great strings, but maybe too much hype.
I think these strings play good, feel good, etc... However if you ever play without an amp, (example: Recording into Ableton, but not monitoring due to latency) these things buzz a lot. I trust my guitar was setup correctly at Sweetwater when I purchased it, and when behind an amp they sound great and stay in tune pretty well.
Overrated
Tried these twice. Once on a Schecter Blackjack SLS C-7 and once on a Fender American Standard Strat. Didn't care for them either time. They're not horrible, they're just not all that and a bag of chips like a lot of people (especially endorsees) tend to describe them as. Soundwise there just seems to be something that is "off" about them. They kind of sound ever so slightly muddy to me. Tuning is about average too, I don't really see too big of a difference in that department.
Won't stay in tune
They sound amazing but they wont stay in tune and it really ****** me off
Odd sounding ( not in a good way
I find the sound of these strings are pretty horrible. Just wanted to try something new, but was very disappointed with these.
D'Addario NYXL-Not for Everyone
NYXL's are advertised to be stronger, with midrange punch. I don't know about the strength, but I seldom break strings anyway. They do have a midrange punch, and I don't really like it that much. Probably good for aggressive metal players, but I don't like the sound for rock, Americana, blues, and subtler playing. Also, when I first put them on I felt a slight resistance to picking, like the wound strings had some kind of coating. So, probably good for some players, but not for everyone.
Not for every one
Very bright sounding, I'm sure it djent. However there is a strange high frequency harmonic going on. I still prefer normal D'Addario.
10-46 G string problems
I find the G string in the 10-46 set is tinny and seems like it doesn't belong with the other strings in the set. B & E sort of tinny, but the lower registers sound great.
D'Addario NYXL1046 (SUPER STRINGS)
I did not care for these strings, even though the ad said better tone, longer life, hold their tune, etc.
I installed them on my Fender Strat and they changed the action on my fingerboard to the point of harder fingering, less bending - which made playing more difficult. Also increased the height of my Vibrato Bar.
I went back to the Regular Light D'Addarios XL 10-46 and find them much easier to play, stretch, etc. EXL110.
Maybe you'll love 'em - I didn't, though.

Horrible
I've put two separate sets of these strings on two different guitars. The B broke while tuning on one and the high E would never get to standard pitch on the other. Absolute trash. I'm going back to GHS.
Very short lifespan
The packaging says "VCI corrosion protection." I"m not sure if that"s supposed to mean that they will stay fresh BEFORE you open them or that they are supposed to last longer than other strings when you use them, but these strings have the shortest lifespan out of all the strings I have tried. I can barely get 3 weeks out of them without them starting to corrode and sound dull. Never had this happen so quickly with any other strings, even with daily playing. They also don"t stay in tune that well with my wilkinson floating tremolo, as compared to Ernie Ball which from my experience do a much better job at this. Overall very disappointed, especially for the price they ask. D"Addario should step their game up.
Terrible quality and production.
Any time you get a pack of 6 strings all shoved into a bag - you can guess the effort they put into making them. if a… set of string (the most expensive available) is put into one bag and then left to you to unravel them and figure out what goes where - you have the WRONG set of strings! I was about to go on stage and realized I needed to change a few strings. NO problem, I thought. I have done many an tight situations. When I opened the ONE BAG and saw they were all moved into it - where I had to both unable the (bleep) thing (grrrr to the max grrrr) and read their (bleep). color code- I was super not happy! I could not get three of them untangled - which would NOT have been the case had they package them like everyone else in on planet earth! I was not happy and reached super impatience. I called a person over and asked them to help me. Yes - they were excited. But when they realized they could not get them unwound - they too got stressed. I was NOT NOT NOT happy having to borrow some strangers guitar so some (bleep) company could save money but shoving them all in one bag! do not waste you money on these and do not support corner cutting. BOOOO! is how I rate them. Want a number - 1 out of 10. They just put no effort into making the strings.
I will say - seeing how you can get away with annoying - I too will make strings and actually put them in bags - advertising who we don't cut corners line NYXL!!!
The bottom line - if you want quality - do NOT support those who cut corners! Demand excellence - which they refuse to deliver.
Not impressed at all!
I put a set of these strings on my new Ibanez AZ242BC-DET. They appeared to me to be very similar to a completely used set of strings. They were very brittle and had limited elasticity as though the strings were at the end of their life cycle.
The sound was very flat and muddy, not acceptable at all.
I bought these strings off of the shelf and we put them on the guitar right away, so the package of string had not been sitting around at all. It was a brand new package that we opened.
This is the worst experience I have had with any strings. Most are acceptable, not brittle and they do have some elasticity.
I do not recommend these strings at all.
Never Again
Changed my strings on my Les Paul as a have numerous times. The Eminor broke immediately. I had to open up another pack to replace it. A few weeks later the Martin Guitar I had ordered came in and I was going over the setup with my tech. The line item for chosing of strings came up and I said "Elixir, definately not D'Addario". He said I should contact D'Addario which I did a couple weeks later. Their response was a lecture on strings breaking. I'm 61 years old and do not need a lecture...
Tuning Issues
I love the feel of these strings and want to use them, but I can't seem to keep them in tune. Several others have commented on this problem as well. Not sure why they won't stay in tune, but will have to use other strings.
Tuning Issues
After stretching them and playing for 8 hours they still won't stay in tune.
Brittle & snap EZ
I thought... Oh WOW! Such a perfect string...
according to the hype. I bought a set of these
and they sound terrific. The problem I had was
they are very brittle! First about a week ago,
the B-String snapped off at the bottom of the
guitar. I thought it was a fluke... thought nothing
of it. The NEXT WEEK the wound A-String
did the same. The string is still intact as the
winding-coil is holding two separated core
wires. I am going back to my trustworthy
and proven reliability of the D'Addario
blue boxed EXL110 Regular Light Gauge
XL Nickel Wound. I have NEVER had one
break yet! I use a .010-.046 size.
I am terribly disappointed in the NYXL
durability. Very.
