D'Addario NYXL0942 NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings - .009-.042 Super Light Reviews
D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

The Strings I've been looking for.
I almost gave up on playing 9's after having broken several high-E strings on other brands. I've been playing these on all of my guitars for about the past month (full tone bends, with out fear) and I haven't broken a single one. They also sound great. Excellent product.
Excellent Quality - Great Playability, Long Lasting, Value for Your Money
This is a fantastic set of strings for your Les Paul, Strat or other 6-string guitar. Excellent value for your money. They feel great, last a long time, have great overall playability. For a Tele or if you bend a lot, try the NYXL 10-46 balanced tension strings.
Surprised skeptic
I was of the belief that all guitar strings of the same gauge and construction are the same. Brand has mattered little in my experience. I got these on a whim with another order and as I put them on, I wasn't wowed. Exactly the same as any other 9-42s. Month later and they are corrosion free and sound like a fresh set. I'm sold. Anything else would have felt rough and sound as dull as they look. I can't imagine the costs of manufacturing these strings are twice as much as normal strings, so there is some goofiness with the price. Worth it imo just in comparison to standard strings.
consistently good!!
Been playing these for three weeks on a guitar that has not been very good with holding strings in tune in the past. I upgraded to grover locking tuners and changed over to these strings - HUGE improvement!! The nice thing here is that these strings have been very consistent in tone, playability, comfort and staying in tune. I use a capo a lot because I keep this guitar in Eb tuning and I like to switch around to various different tunings, so the strings are getting worked out quite a bit. It's wonderful to just pick up my guitar and be in tune, right where it was when I last put it down. Super happy with these super-lights!
Great customer service!
I just wanted to right a quick review of the Great customer service the SweetWater company has. They answer when you call and actually call you the next day after you place an order to say Thanks for your order. Very professional staff and company. I highly recommend SweetWater when ordering any kind of gear or accessories. Thank You SweetWater you have my business from now on.
Awesome Strings
I had been using another brand for many years and I saw these and decided to try them. Now all of my guitars have them. Strings have great tone and bend well and stay in tune.`
Best light gauge strings
The sound of these light strings are amazing. Both Gibson's I have are set up for these strings. I'm not working very hard at all when I'm out gigging or just having a jam session in the basement. BB King has always been correct why do you need to work so hard. Use light strings and enjoy the time playing.
Best Strings I've ever played
If you have not tried these strings you are missing out. They sound amazing and bend like you wouldn't believe. I normally go for cheaper strings but decided these were worth a shot. Now I use them religiously. Please give them a chance and listen to your guitar sing!
Awesome
I used Ernie's for years and they are a good string, but the NYXL's are worth every penny. Great tuning stability, excellent tone and they last along time. i am very impressed with these strings.
Get them now
I've been using these for a few months now on my Strat HSS and played it through both a 10W Vox and a Mesa Boogie Stiletto. My band keeps complimenting my tone. We also had an outdoor show recently with high heat and humidity and I did not need to re-tune mid set. I've never been a fan of a specific string until I bought these. Definitely worth a try.
Best Strings
Great strings, Regardless of Guage size, The NYXL edition D'A Strings are incredible. Very clear tones on my deluxe strat running through a 65' Deluxe Reverb.
Screaming Leads, Chunky Ryhthm, amazing Clarity
I have been playing Daddario strings for years and I use them on everything I have Guitars, Bass, Ukulele, Ect. I saw these months back and said hmmm I love the originals and still use em to this day so I said I'll try em! So I got em and threw them on my Les Paul Standard just to try them out and put them to the test. I was doing 2 whole step bends with Wide vibrato ala John Sykes Style and these baby's didn't even slip out of tune once! Their clarity was unmatched! So I left them on their for a month and played it every day for 2-3 hours with HARD playing really digging in and they didn't even slip out of tune finally on the 31st day the high e string snapped during a 2 whole step bend. Now if that doesn't say quality I don't know what does. So I got another set and put it on my main studio guitar which is a Jackson Dinky with Seymour Duncan pickups and a Floyd rose.. I thought ok let's see how she handles dive bombs and huge bends and pull ups on a trem. Well they didn't even go out of tune 1 cent! So I used them in a session tonight and they are louder and jump above the track for leads I couldn't believe it!! Get a pack today!!! They are worth the price!!!
Chunky, Screaming,Greasy
I have played the regular Daddarios for years and I still do and love them dearly! I got a pack to try and I said hmm why not cause I'm one of these guys that says if it ain't broke don't fix it! Well this one was a home run! I slapped these babies on my Les Paul and wow! The harmonic content and the tone as well as the brightness and sustain! They chunk, and they bend really far in talking 2 whole step bends, and step and a half were singing! On a les Paul! And they didn't go out not once! Gonna try em on my Jacksons with Floyd roses next! If you want a string that does it all and more grab a pack and try em out! Thanks Ryan Murray!
D'Addario strings
Hadent played in years and was expecting bloody fingers...nope. qorth every penny
Amazing product
These strings stay in tune and after 2 months on 5 different guitars there is no evidence of tone loss or rust. I can bend them all day and they stay in tune. Awesome product.
Strings
Great tone.
great strings
thanks to Noah for recommending these. they have a great feel and tone. they also hold tune well, even with some aggressive bending.
D’A NYXL
I’ve been using D’A strings for quite some time on both acoustic and electric ... never a disappointment.
Nice Strings
I tried these after playing XLs for a while. These break-in faster and stay in tune well. They work well with both humbucker and single coil pickups. Not sure is the are really worth twice the price of XLs but if I find a good deal on them I would use them again.
Not really impressed
As others have said..the packaging is not what it could be.
Sorting through a loop of strings to find what you need in a hurry is not gig-friendly.
This is the 1st set of these I've purchased,..and the "B" string had a dead tone right out of the box.
No,..it's not my saddle or nut..I replaced the string with one from a set of Ernie Balls, same diameter..and it was ringing "clean"
Defective A-string
I've used these strings in the past for guitar and bass (loved them for bass!). So I put a set on my Strat tonight and wound up with something I've never, EVER encountered with D'Addario - a very dead, very defective string. I was really looking forward to putting them through their paces through single coils, too.
The problem was the A-String. It sounded very dead, and going up the neck the intonation was COMPLETELY OFF! I tried to verify my intonation at the 12th fret and could HARDLY get the harmonic, and fretted it was almost a quarter to half STEP flat - not cents... almost a half-step! I've been playing for years and have never encountered anything like this before. Full disclosure - all I did was change from my original Fender Super Bullets (decent-enough strings) to the same gauge of NYXLs. No setup adjustments done, just a string change.
I had a set of Ernie Ball Paradigms in my kit that I wanted to eventually on the Strat, so I strung up an A-string from that pack, and bada-boom - all was right in the world again...where I decided to ditch the NYXLs and string up the Paradigms which I'll think I'll stick to from here on out (got them on my LP with great results).
Maybe I just got unlucky with this set, though I do expect better from such a reputable brand like D'Addario, sorry.
Not Happy
Two strings broke during tuning.
Not impressed
Ive heard great things about these strings and so the purchase was made. I usually don't write reviews on such subjects but the few that I do are because the hype was so huge on the product but the purchase reality was a dud! So to say I am not impressed one bit. I strung up my telecaster which is my number one go to guitar for reliability in that it's simple it always stays in tune and sounds great. These strings are in my opinion horrible. They sound dead, they even feel dead. They do NOT stay in tune at all! Even on a guitar that never has tuning issues ever
Now to my credit, guitar experience and ability …..over the years I've used many different string manufacturers on many different guitars that I own and have owned as I've been playing for 38+ years and in that time I have been a professional player up to recent years.
In that time my go to strings have been Daddario and Ernie ball 9 and 10 gauge strings mainly using Ernie balls in the last ten years. I own many guitars Gibson, fender, charvel, Jackson, Ibanez esp etc……. I've never had issues with any of those guitars tuning stability with either string manufacturer's until the purchase of the Daddarrio NYXL 9 gauge strings.
Is it possible I got a bad pack? Maybe ….. but as I read reviews I'm thinking maybe not. As there are other purchasers with a similar experience as mine. I believe Ernie ball strings are my go to string and will stay with what works. It they would cease to exist I guess I would buy Daddario strings but never the NYXLs as I said above they feel bad to the touch, sound dead, feel old and do not stay in tune on a guitar that never had tuning stability issues. That guitar was restrung with Ernie ball 9s and is back to its happy place!
