A must have!

By George J. from Kentucky
Music Background: Worship leader, drummer for 30 years

If you have a Presonus Studiolive series III mixer, this stage box is a must have. A single CAT6 cable is a blessing versus a large cable snake. With flexible signal routing and controllable preamps, this thing is perfect. I bought the 32sc console and this unit adds 16 more channels. If you're looking at a console or a 24 or 32 channel rack mixer, you need this stage box.

Issues with audio drop-outs?

By Rob from NC
Music Background: Live sound

In response to some people having audio dropout problems. We use the NSB 32.16 for most shows. In the beginning, we experienced audio drops. The issue ended up being the choice of the Cat cable we were using (shielded twisted pair). The cable we used was shielded... this caused a grounding problem when someone would touch a mic, mic-stand, or even the console. We took our shielded cables and removed the ground cable from only ONE end. This solved our audio dropouts... no grounding issues. We kept the shield in place in the cable (and the ground on only one side). The other ground allows for the discharge of any electrical interference in the cable, but it does not cause audio issues. Check your cables!!

Magic box!

By David M. from Huber Heights, OH

We finally got the network cabling installed and began using our NSB16.8 with our Presonus mixer. The main purpose is to connect the musicians on stage. Previously, we were using a Behringer stage mixer and bringing that in via the xlr snake. Our current speaker arrangement fills the room nicely but can produce feedback. But tests with the NSB16.8 are showing that the feedback threshold is significantly higher, to the point of being non-existent. It's amazing! There's some serious magic going on. And the audio quality is much clearer (go figure, good gain structure means good sound, who knew). There really isn't much about the NSB16.8 to convince me to purchase it. It doesn't DO anything when compared to something like a headless stage mixer. But when coupled with the Presonus main mixer, the results are outstanding. So glad Mike recommended it and that we went with it.

Life is so much simpler

By Steve from Colorado

I've been using the NSB 16.8 for the past year in a rehearsal/recording studio space together with a Presonus StudioLive Series III 32 channel mixer. They work seamlessly together. Cabling is dramatically reduced to a single AVB ethernet cable. Sounds great and always works.

Best feature is ability to digitally manage I/O configurations from the mixer and its UC control software app. We have several different band and recording configurations. Each one is set up and saved in its own project preset. At the touch of button, I can reconfigure the whole studio to the current project. Never have to move around cables any more. Eliminated the need for my analog patch bay.

We also use Presonus StudioOne as our DAW and Presonus Capture as the direct-to-disk recording app. The mixer/NSB hardware integrate nicely into this environment making recording and production workflow much simpler.

Clean Signal

By Seth G. from YOUNGSVILLE, LA

Really cleaned up the sound of buzzing and weak signals!

Excellent for many applications.

By Sweetwater Customer

I work with a lot of marching bands, and the NSB system is PERFECT for what we do. Many manufacturers have digital stage boxes that are rack mounted, but few offer them in a "drop box" form factor and even fewer allow the units to be daisy chained together.

The ability to have one or two of the NSB 16s for the keyboards and or rack mounting one on the synth cart AND being able to daisy chain an NSB 8.8 for your soloists or maybe a prop really cleans up cable management and makes on/off the field setup super fast.

Maybe Cooling issues?

By Jered M. from Taylors, SC
Music Background: engineer, musician, A/V tech

So, Mikes review, here on sweetwater, mentions that he put a fan behind his units.

I also have 2 units, and also will get random dropouts of sound, but the "dropout" will last on most of the channel streams until I restart the system.

It always seems to happen at the worst time. For example, I'll be hosting a gig with guest musicians, pros, and the feeds cut out and i'm running around the venue trying to get stuff back up and running. It's awkward.

Anyway, i'm going to Ace now to grab a couple fans and have them permanently blowing on the units. we'll see i guess.

What makes this hard is that the drop outs occur only once every few months. So i'll have to wait a couple years before I feel "good" about this fix.

i've always been a fan of presonus, but my confidence is crushed a bit. We have a behringer x32 (of course) in another venue, and that system seems rock solid.

Presonus Stage Box

By Gabriel M. from IL

Presonus 16 StageBox works for a while gets hot and just stops no sound. This is bad news for gigs and practice. This will be the second time that I have had to ship it back to Sweetwater. Of course, I pay for shipping!! I know that some companies charge for the warranty but the 2-year Sweetwater free warranty is worthless if I constantly need to pay for shipping a defective unit back and wait for a month for the unit to be serviced and returned from the manufacture. I spent a lot of money for the stage box and I am very disappointed with the warranty and the product. Buyer Beware!!!

Presonus Stage Box

By Olen N.

We're going from a 16/8 120' snake that weighs 50 pounds and resides in a 4x2x3' box, to something the size of a loaf of bread and an ethernet cable. And does more. How could you not love that?

So far very frustrated...

By Mike from NC
Music Background: Guitarist/Sound Engineer

I will update this review when Presonus comes up with a fix for the issues I am having.

Let me start by saying I purchased one of these and had no issues. I then decided to expand my rig, bought a second box, and rackmounted them. As soon as I did that I started experiencing gaps in audio streams. Sometimes no sound at all for 10-15 seconds!!! After frantically trying everything I could to figure out what was going on, I finally stuck a fan behind the stageboxes and after a couple of minutes of cooling had no issues.

I contacted Presonus about the issue and they sent me another box, however the second box had the same issue as well as the main indication LED not functioning correctly. Great.

When these work I love them, but having a stagebox that can't keep itself cool in an inside environment in the Spring is worrying to say the least. My confidence in these has shot to zero, and I will not be using them for any live use until a fix arrives. Very frustrating as I'm thousands of dollars into a brand new system and the success of it all depends on a desk fan in the back of a rack.

Works Solidly No Complaints

By Don D. from Las Vegas, NV
Music Background: Production Company

I have the Series III StudioLive24 Console. This stagebox was a great addition because it's a lot easier to roll a Cat6 cable at the end of the night. THANK YOU Presonus for putting a locking IEC Power cable on it! What a great idea. It's built very solid and looks like it's going to last.
