That's more like it

By Stephen L. from Bakersfield, CA

I used an ancient drum name brand pin-and-hole throne with an oval seat for 30 years. It was always securely at the height I liked because of the pin and hole. I bought a tractor-seat style throne with a major drum brand label a few years back. I like the tractor seat, but the manual height screw is hard to secure and the seat foam is pretty firm. I've recently started jamming at an old friend's house on a donor drum set he has with a Roc-N-Soc Lunar Throne. When I first saw it, I thought the saddle looked huge, but after sitting on it, I thought "This is a very confortable saddle". The mild compression of the adjustable nitrogen gas shock is pretty cool, too. For these reasons. I thought, "that's it, I'm getting a nitro-gas Roc-N-Soc. After the first sit and bounce, I knew this was the one. Comfortable saddle. Controlled flex in the shock. Sweet. I had to pony up a little for this throne, but no regrets.

Worth every cent!

By Brandon
Music Background: Drummer turned Guitarist

Not only is these a reputable brand, but it is every bit as comfortable as it looks. It takes less than 1 min to assemble and can adjust 18-24" height. I use this for guitar and sometimes drums.
I have 3 other stools and I have a 28" tall roc n soc fixed stool, the adjustability is wear it's at, fits any friends over to jam and you can sit for hours in comfort.

If your a tall guy there is an extended 24-30" height version, but the normal fits my needs

Excellent Seat for Guitar

Sitting comfy

By Jm V. from Monterey, California
Music Background: Drums, congas and bongos, misc lating percussion.

I should have gotten this throne years ago. It is the most comfortable and useful drum throne I've ever had. Easy to adjust between my drums and congo/bongo set up. For my aging back I have ordered the backrest for this unit. That can easily be on or off as needed. Service from Alex at Sweetwater is best and they made good on delivery when the first one go lost. Roc n Soc. Just get you one; you will love it!

Just leaving a quick review to say this product from the Roc N Soc series is the very best. I also own the spindle and Lunar type thrones. By far this is my personal favorite, and I use this throne for all my Live Playing Situations. The gas "bounce" adds to the comfort.

Best drum throne you can buy!

By Matthew from New York, NY
Music Background: Trained Studio Musician

I've been playing drums for decades, and the Roc-N-Soc is hands down the most comfortable and easily adjustable throne out there. I often micro-adjust my seat height +/- an inch, depending on my mood and quick adjust is also handy when I'm working with other drummers and we swap places. I've used Roc-N-Soc over the years and am excited to finally have my own. Now spending more time in the saddle, I hadn't previously noticed how amazing the slight shock-absorbing bounce of the gas shock reduces fatigue. Treat yourself - it's worth it!

Amazing Throne!

By Zane
Music Background: Self taught composer, producer, and singer

So I don't have really any experience with drum thrones, however as I was buying an electronic drumset, some research into drum thrones basically told me that I shouldn't cheap out on them. So I looked up some recommendations. I heard the name Roc-N-Soc thrown around a ton as a good buy, and I was actually considering the Pork Pie first, but as I'm 5'6 and around 175 - 190 pounds (167CM and 79 - 86KG for the non-Americans reading this), and the Pork Pie's lowest height was 21.5 inches (54.61cm), whereas the normal Roc-N-Soc Nitro was 18 inches at it's lowest (45.72cm), I figured it would be the better buy for someone my height (it was, I keep the throne actually not much above it's default height). The comfort on this throne is amazing. It's about as good (if not better) than the late 90s office chair I use for computer, so I bet I could sit on this throne all day if I wanted to, and if I got the backrest attachment then this may even become another chair I could grab and use in a pinch for me. The gas shock absorption is really nice and strong too, and I don't really feel it in action unless I REALLY bounce on it. Another reason I like this is the gas lift lever. It makes adjusting to find the sweet spot for yourself really quick and easy. The only caveat to this I can see is that some people might not like the motorcycle styled throne seats, however I personally enjoy it. Overall, as my first (and probably last for a good long time) drum throne, it's amazing and I can confidently say it's worth every penny.

Music Background: Rock ,funk, reggae, some jazz & afro cuban

Rocking sock thrones have already been a favorite of mine Since way back when they were pretty much 1st with the tractor style, or bicycle seat style drum throne... And this nitrogas with hydraulic height adjustment is the best upgrade to their standard original drum thrown...love It's so much I use it for pretty much everything I need to sit down for Because I also purchased the backrest now that I'm old!!!

A Game of Thrones

By Mark from Baltimore
Music Background: Been in bands and projects for 15+ years

Love this throne with every bone in my butt - had been using a standard throne for most of my drumming career and finally splurged as I was starting to get a lot of lower back and *** pain. This throne is definitely worth it, very very comfortable for your toosh! The best part is if you have multiple people rotating on the drums, the gas lift to adjust the throne comes in so handy for folks of different heights. Highly recommend and thank you Sweetwater for getting it to me so fast!

Roc-n-Soc Nitro Rider Drum Throne - Doctor Approved

By Jerry D. from Texas
Music Background: Percussionist for over 50 years

The Roc-n-Soc Nitro Rider drum throne is a must if you're spending hours at your kit and are serious about your music and staying comfortable. The ergonomic design, along with the gas shock absorber, minimizes postural fatigue and back pain. As a chiropractor, proper sitting and support has always been something I discuss with my patients. You owe it to yourself to have a comfortable throne that allows you to focus on your music. Having played drums for over 50 years and sitting on a lot of different thrones, the Roc-n-Soc Nitro Rider drum throne is simply the best!

Roc n Soc Nitro drum throne

By Russ

Drumming for over 40 years and having multiple drum thrones I can say this is by far the most comfortable throne I have used. I always had back pain after playing for 20 minutes but not with this one. After playing with this Roc n soc I felt great. Highly recommend this. Also a big shout out to Evan at Sweetwater. Great follow up and stayed in contact thru the whole process. Got this in just two days after ordering!! Great experience!!

A different application

By Nick C. from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Percussionist mostly at church and happy to be doing it!

I've been playing drums for decades. In the past 10 years I have played more percussion so I am now standing when I play. But, I've always wanted a great drum throne. I am a professional photographer during the day and recently had a thought, a pneumatic drum throne would make an awesome posing stool! It's big, comfortable, and packs up fairly compact to travel. Little did I realize how much easier it would be for my clients to settle into this stool that looks like it will take a substantial load. Many of my older executives are carrying some extra pounds and have sat cautiously on my posing stool, but not at my last gig. In addition, it was a great conversation piece with several of the clients that recognized it for what it was. I wish I had thought of this sooner!

Nice

By Wayne from Fl
Music Background: Guitar player / time keeper

I needed a comfortable throne that I could also use to practice guitar.
Great for both. Buy the back rest, it's worth every penny.
Seat is comfortable / well padded, everything is adjustable.
I bought a mid priced throne and gave it away when I used the RNS once.
A little pricey but in the end ( no pun intented ) you'll be happier.

View from the Throne

By Sweetwater Customer

The view from this throne is fantastic. I play solo piano and I play long sets.
The first time I used the roc n soc I didn't notice it at all. In fact, I didn't notice any back pain or foot cramps are anything associated with sitting for long periods.
That's when I knew I made the right choice. Light and easy to setup and easy to sit on.
It's good. Sneaky good

Buy This Throne!

By Steven R. from FAIRFAX, VA
Music Background: novice (<2 years) drummer, but classically trained guitarist of 30+ years

I bought this throne to replace a PDP PDDT710R, which was a little difficult to adjust and tended to get a little loose, so I'd have to tighten it a few times every practice session. There is no comparison to the Roc-N-Soc, which is more stable (even though it freely rotates). I am short (~5'7"), and the height range is fine for me. However, if you are 5'10" or so, you likely need to consider the extended version (but you probably want to ask the guys at Sweetwater). Anyway, this throne is 100% worth the money.

By Dave from Grand Rapids, MI
Music Background: An average Joe who loves to jam! 30 years and counting...

(I have owned both a BLACK one and RED one...)
Solid construction and absolutely wonderful to play on! (Coming from a 270 lb guy.) It's ample seat has a great feel and an awesome bounce. And having the airlift changes everything! It is so convenient to adjust yourself up and down, so precisely, INSTANTANEOUSLY! I was happy to know the stool can still swivel, and won't come off of the stand from you when you need to pick it up and move it. The plush top is as luxurious as it is gorgeous, and my butt has not stopped thanking me yet! I LOVE IT and you will too. TREAT YOURSELF!!

Night and Day

By James F. from Flower Mound, TX

I'm a beginning drummer and got surprised for my 50th birthday last year with a new electronic set and my sweet wife got the basic, hard as a rock, round entry level Yamaha throne. It was fine as I was setting it up and getting started but it just was so uncomfortable. So, I was curious what real drummers used and so I took a peek at the throne the guy at our church uses and it was a Roc-N-Soc. Snuck a quick sit down and it was like the movies when the angels start singing and music plays. I couldn't believe how much more comfortable it was to sit on a real throne. He had the round version but I liked the idea of the Nitro style so ordered that one from Sweetwater. What a difference a quality throne can make! I can play longer and don't get as tired or, honestly, beaten down by the hardness and tiny size of the old one. All is not lost on the old one as it's now my work stool out in the garage for odd jobs that require I bend down low. I know it's chunk of change but if you can swing it you will not be disappointed. I'm 6'3" and got the regular and not the tall version and it works for me but all the way up. If you are taller or have a really high set up you might look at the tall one but this one worked just fine for me. As always great support from the guys/gals at Sweetwater!

Most important part of my kit

By Jeremiah S. from Charlotte

A friend waxed poetic about how much he liked this throne and I was skeptical. Having injured my hip last year just about any chair is uncomfortable and my old drum throne was particularly egregious. This throne however lets me get in more play time because I don't notice it at all. I use it on the drum kit, it spins around and I play guitar on it, it's even been carried into other rooms for other tasks. An explanation of why I can't puzzle out but this throne is seriously impressive and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Nothings too good for my butt

By John B. from Denver
Music Background: Greatest drummer no one has ever heard of...

This is my second Roc N Soc thrown. I needed a second for my acoustic kit. The cloth fabric keeps one from sliding around and the padding is super plush. Keeping the same comfort and feel was important to me to keep fit, feel and function uniform whether playing digital or acoustic kits. You rarely see this thrown used as no one wants to give them up!

No Going Back

By STEPHEN D. from freeport, NY
Music Background: Drummer for Trak9 - Long Island South Shore

Now in my late 40's I remember my first throne being a chair from the kitchen and even sitting on a milk crate during one gig when my plywood stool (couldn't be called a throne) broke in 2 pieces. I continued to be frugal (i.e. the $60 thrones) until I sat on this when at a fellow drummers house. I immediately bought one for my set at home and am looking to buy another for my set at my guitar players house. With it's large comfy cushion and shock absorption I am permanently spoiled and there is No Going Back. LOL

Whoa, what have I been doing all these years?!

By John

I've skimped on the good throne for years thinking something like this to be luxury. Now I see that I've been screwing up! My playing actually improved a bit when I ditched the starter throne for this puppy... I think it's because it took a lot of strain off of my lower back and allowed me to further loosen up. I can now play for hours with good posture. If you're thinking about buying one of these JUST DO IT. You won't regret the purchase.

Better for multiple users

By LFC from Upper Falls MD
Music Background: 60’s British Invasion band.

I previously used the manually adjusted version of this throne, which I liked and was very comfortable. My wife decided to learn to play drums. This hydraulic Roc-N-Soc has allowed us to change the height of the throne instantly and saved any hassle. So far it is also comfortable and there have been no issues. Neither of us is heavy. YMMV.

September 6, 2020

Great comfort for long sessions

By Sweetwater Customer

I've used a basic round drum throne for years and had to get up every hour or so and walk around to take a break. This Roc-N-Soc drum throne is so comfortable I can play for hours! My prior throne was very stationary. This one spins and absorbs impact! I didn't think I would like that, but it's very nice. I would highly recommend.

August 24, 2020

Adjustable, firm, and pretty comfortable

By Eric

I actually purchased this as a guitar seat since it is easily height adjustable. It has been very good for this purpose with one caveat.
First, the good, the build quality is excellent. The stitching is good and the legs are solid and there is zero wobble. The rubber feet on the bottom keep the chair from sliding at all. The nitro shock feels solid and has just the right amount of give when you sit down. I'm a big guy, 6'4" 240 and I don't have any worries about this supporting me. I would have preferred the tripod base was a little larger because if I lean on the backrest I can feel the front leg lift slightly, but it's just something to be aware of and it's obvious they sacrificed this for portability, which is fine.
Second, the only negative is that I noticed a hot spot towards the front of the seat in the groin area. This could just be due to my specific anatomy of could be due to the seat not being broken in yet, but the padding is very firm and I'm pretty sure it's the increase in padding towards the front of the saddle which causes this. It's only noticeable after about an hour of play though, so it isn't serious. The hot spot is the only reason I have this 4 stars instead of 5.
I would recommend this throne, but if possible try one out before you buy to see if you have a similar issue with a hotspot.

Best throne I’ve had

By Danny B. from Pittsburgh Pa
Music Background: Drummer/songwriter

This throne is so comfortable! And I love how fast I can make adjustments. I use a few different techniques when it comes to playing fast, tight double bass and depending on the technique, my throne height will really make a difference with how I execute that technique. So if I"m I"m the middle of playing and I"m getting tired from using my hip flexors a lot, I can just reach over and pull a knob and BAMB! My throne is a bit higher and it"s easier to use your hip flexors the higher you are. And when I"m about to use heel toe, I can just slide back down that few inches for that song or whatever. The options are almost endless.

What can I say?

By John from Fl

Fantastic throne. This is my third Roc-N-Soc in 15 years. That being said I will explain why it is my 3rd. The first 2 I picked up barely used working in a music shop. The only reason I bought a new one is that I am 6'4" and 385 lbs and after so many years I noticed the the actual seat was breaking down a bit as far as the support goes. Again both of the ones I have were slightly used when I bought them. I have had one of these fall out of my pick up truck at 55 mph and my singer found it on the way to a gig. It worked fine after that and only ended up with a small tear and scuff that NEVER got bigger. That was 8 years ago. These thrones are well built, comfortable and basically built like tanks and if you start pricing other thrones you will see for what you get this throne is well worth the money.

By Norm V. from Long Island, NY
Music Background: Corp Exec by day - Drummer by night & weekends

I've heard a lot of great things about these thrones over the years but never had a chance to play on one.

Well... now I'm a proud owner of one and so glad I made the switch from my traditional thrones (DW & Tama). Don't get me wrong, both those thrones are outstanding & were the best you could buy (about 8-10 years ago). However, the Roc-N-Soc Nitro gives you something the traditional thrones don't which is extra comfort AND shock absorption.

It takes a bit getting used to because the throne will rise & compress (slightly) as you dance on your pedals. But that's the best part - your lower back & upper legs no longer take the brunt & punishment from hours of playing.

To put things into perspective, I rehearse, jam &/or record for up to 5 hours on Saturdays. After using this throne for the last 2 sessions, I feel fresh, energized & the body fatigue (I used to experience) is now, non-existent.

I strongly suggest purchasing the back rest for this throne - it does make a difference.

I can't praise Sweetwater, this throne, & Roc-N-Soc enough and recommend it without reservation.

p.s. Thank you Alex Rodriguez for answering all my questions and helping me make a very informed decision. More importantly, you made my shopping experience nothing short of outstanding - well done mate!

Roc-N-Soc

By Sweetwater Customer

Most previous reviews cover how comfortable this throne feels. They are right. Only regret is not purchasing sooner...

Your bottom and back will thank you.

I only wish all seating could be this comfortable. I do recommend the optional back rest - the combination is bliss.

Excellent Throne

By Mark H. from Everett, WA
Music Background: Drummer since 1966

I have four Roc-N-Soc thrones. Two in my travel set ups, one in my studio and one at rehearsal. The new one is in my local travel set up. The Hydraulic thrones are my favorite. I have one screw base throne too but I don't like the fact I must rotate the seat to spin it up and down. The Hydraulic is the way to go, one quick adjustment and your are ready to go. The thrown at my studio kit has one cracked rubber foot but it's seen seven years of use... you can easily order replacements. All the hardware is excellent and is road worthy. I have never had a problem (other then one worn foot). Highly recommended.

Buy this throne...

By Carl from Dayton
Music Background: Drummer

Buy this throne. I'm a huge Tama hardware fan, and so bought their top of the line drum throne at the time. Biggest waste of money in a long time. I let the guitar players sit on it during jam sessions now. I had one of these long ago, and loving Tama hardware, figured they would be able to make a better throne. Nope. This is less expensive and MUCH more comfortable. The previous one is with a kit I no longer play on, but still gets used, and is still kicking. The new Roc-N-Soc I bought after the Tama throne is a delight to sit on. With the hydraulic lift, it's very easy to adjust. The only downside I could possibly see to this throne is that if you dance or bounce along to the groove, you will get a little bounce back as you compress the hydraulic bit. It bothered me more when I first started using it over a decade ago, but I've gotten used to it, and to be honest, a stiff, unforgiving throne just feels wrong to me now.

Of all the thrones I've used in my 20+ years of playing, this is by far the most comfortable throne I've ever used. I'd buy it at twice the price.

Nothing better!

By Jason A. from Wauseon, OH
Music Background: Drummer, Audio Engineer

I've owned this throne for about 2 months, and I couldn't be more happy with it! I have had some serious bad back issues in my past, and this is the best throne to keep your lower back pain to a minimum! I hope you seriously consider purchasing it, because there's really nothing out there that will feel better than this throne, for the price anyway!

Comfy Studio Chair

By Mike from Sacramento, CA
Music Background: Bassist, Live Sound Tech

I'm not a drummer, but I recently set up a home studio and after looking at a variety of big, ugly office chairs realized that a quality drum throne would be a much better option. The seat is super cushy and comfortable to sit on for long periods while I tinker with mixes or tracking bass and guitar parts, and the gas lift makes adjustment quick and easy. The rubber feet are high quality and grip the (fake) wood floor well, preventing any shifting of the legs. The tripod is stable and well-made. Excellent product!

My drummer son wanted this for his 10th birthday as his drum teacher owned the exact model and my son just loved it! It's honestly everything it says under product description, what more is it looks so handsome in person.

Absolute Best

By Goose from N. Kentucky

Hands down the best throne out there. On a serious note may I add that the backrest is the best fifty bucks you'll ever spend. You're investing in a throne that will last many, many years. Sit back and enjoy it.

By Sherell D. from Washington DC

This is the best throne of them all. I've spent lots of money on drum thrones, and indeed this is the most comfortable one, for my back, butt, and legs. I love it, the name of a thing is the nature of it, so let's roc, and soc people! L.O.L.

Best. Throne. Ever.

By Michael H. from Lafayette, IN USA
Music Background: Lifelong Drummer

I bought one of these in the early '90s and had it for about 20 years. Finally sold it with a drum set of mine - reluctantly. It was the most durable, comfortable throne I have ever perched my posterior on. I aim to get another one ASAP and have it for at least another 20 years. Not only is it great for practice and gigs, but makes a great "spare chair" when a lot of company comes to visit. Many times we find ourselves debating who gets to sit in it because it is so comfortable. Definitely worth the investment if you will be spending a lot of time on your arse in the studio or on stage.

Essential!

By Sweetwater Customer from Philadelphia, PA
Music Background: Pro

This has been my ONLY drum throne since I purchased it in early 2003 (it is now September 2014). I have played hundreds of shows, practiced thousands of hours, and have been on many tours with this drum throne. When I am not playing drums, I use it for guitar and piano practice. Despite its age, my throne does not look like its 11 years old. This thing can take a serious beating! Also, it is still extremely comfortable to sit on. I plan on buying a second one soon!

One of the best

By Cody M. from Middletown, DE
Music Background: Pro Musician, Teacher, and Sound Engineer

"A throne is a throne," you might say. You may not feel it after sitting down for 30 minutes, or even an hour. However, a seasoned musician that plays for 4-5 hours at a single performance will tell you that once you've played your first set or two on a hard, thin, and non-conforming material on a throne, your butt and back will start hurting, your posture will slack, and your playing will pay the price. DRUMMERS, INVEST IN A GOOD THRONE. I've had this throne for almost 3 years and its still in great condition, no issues with hardware, no fabric problems with the seat, no nothing. Great throne!!! If you don't like the bike seat shape, the only thing I would recommend that is this quality in a seat are the pork pie's for the same price.

You Pay More, But You Get More

By Nancy B. from Saint Louis
Music Background: Musician in a band with a non-musical day job

The drummer in our band suggested we not go cheap and buy this drum throne. He's tried several, and this is the best quality for the money around. Drummers backs are strained without the right support (ask any OLD drummers). We purchased our drum set for folks to come by and jam with us, and wanted something that could accommodate anyone. With the adjustable seat any drummer can make it just right for them.
