Electro-Voice ND86 Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone Reviews

Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone with Large-diaphragm Capsule, Internal Shockmount, and Memraflex Grille

Large, untreated venues are notorious for causing mix mud and feedback. That's why Sweetwater was happy to see Electro-Voice address this issue in its ND86. This stage mic has a smooth, detailed presence that's designed to cut through the boom of a large room and deliver the performer's every word to the audience's ears. Just as with the ND76, this mic has a modern EQ curve with vivid high-end detail and superb gain before feedback. Both performers and sound engineers will be pleased with the ND86's drop-weathering Memraflex grille and noise-rejecting internal shockmount. Whether you run sound in a large venue or routinely perform in one, Sweetwater recommends the Electro-Voice ND86.

Vs my Sennheiser 835

By CARLOS C.
Music Background: 40 years singing and entertaining.

The upper tones were very clear but the lower tones not as clear. My Sennheiser has better clearer sound and it is about 8 years old compared to the ND86 which is brand new out of the box. I did like it and I will be using it when I sing some of my tenor songs. I've been singing for over 40 years so my voice has dropped to baritone.

Workhorse Supercardiod

By Tony from Minneapolis
Music Background: Fulltime Live sound Engineer. 14 yeas exp.

Highly recommended. The tonal balance of this mic is on the bright side but unlike many other mics that I'd say the same of this model is tamable. The peak at 6k is just out of reach of the sibilance that plagues most of the newer dynamic vocal mic designs. I will say that I think there seems to be a slight break in period. If you think this mic sounds a little brittle put it in front of a bass amp for a day
Other notable comment is that this mic does okay when "cupped" by rappers or screamers.
