Great Jazz Tone!
I put these on my L-5 archtop and they are perfect. Nice classic jazz tone acoustically. Also a silkier feeling regular brass or bronze string. More comfortable than monels and almost as long lasting. I also put the equivalent on one of my mandolins that is a naturally bright instrument and these strings mellowed it nicely
Great on D-18
Phosphor bronze strings were great for single note/fingerpicking, but they didn't sound great strumming. PB sounded thin.
Monels sounded great strumming, but a touch too dark. These added a lot of color to the sound of the guitar. Not bad, just didn't sound like my guitar anymore.
These Nickel Bronze retain the "grand piano" richness of the single notes, while adding warmth and saturation when strumming. The best yet.
Awesome strings!
I don't get the buyers who hate these strings. They're awesome and sound like every other pair of acoustic strings I've ever played. The real upside if your a person like me is the moisture from your fingers won't turn these strings green after a day. It's a problem I struggled with for years until I found out about thesis. Actually, a local shop turned me on to Curt Mangan Monels years ago. Sadly the shop closed. I put a pair on and they last and last. Sweetwater start carrying curt manga strings!
Buyer Beware
These strings are pure trash. Go with the D'Adarrio Phosphor Bronze EJ 17. Save yourself time, money, and disappointment.
Beautiful Balance
I put the Mediums on my Martin D-28 and wasn't immediately impressed. But over the next few days I began to appreciate how evenly balanced these strings are. Each string is well-articulated and I love to just strum away and enjoy my guitar's beautiful tone. Even an aggressive strumming attack sounds clear and defined.
stoked
I typically replace strings every 3 weeks. I play 2-5 hours a day. My go to have been the martin Claptons or marquis. I tried these on my Martin streetmaster gcme-15 and I'm a absolutely stoked. Great sound, much better life...about double so far, and that's all I got to say! Really happy these strings are out there.
Beautiful
They sound fantastic. We play bluegrass, so a guitar has to be heard through other loud instruments. These strings retain volume but sound smooth and balanced at the same time. Sometimes loud also means jangly and a bit harsh, but not these strings. I like them a lot.
Excellent for me
Got a new D-18E Retro 6 months ago. Tried a number of different phosphor bronze strings and was not completely happy. Was thinking well it is a new guitar. Going to take time to play it in.Too bright and a little thin sounding.
A friend suggested these strings. I initially tried the light gauge. Better tone but still something was lacking. Tried these medium gauge and now I couldn't be more pleased. Nice balanced tone highs to lows. Nice more mellow warm retro sound I was looking for. Stay in tune nicely. Even with very aggressive playing. I play with plastic thumb picks and metal finger picks as well as flat picking. Works great for both of these styles.
Really good on a good guitar...
I put a set of these on a Martin D-16RGT and if really brought out the bottom end. Total bass cannon now! Very balanced tone from top to bottom, especially plugged into Fishman Loudbox Performer through L.R. Baggs M1a pup...the nickel really with magnetic pups...break in time was as minimal as it gets and the added transient response is worth it alone but pair these with a good pickup and and a good guitar and prepare to hear your guitar with beautiful woody tone like you've never heard before...
God Awful
Not right for anyone! Such a bad string. Sounded like I put cobalts on my very expensive Fender acoustic guitar. This thing is beautiful (quilt top and all). These strings did nothing to bring out the resonance of my highly figured PRO guitar. I am very disappointed. I will never play these strings again.
