Very Handy

By Sweetwater Customer

Works perfectly as described. Very handy for performing: play w as much noise as you want, then just step on 'mute' when it's time to talk to the crowd!

Awesome

By Tydefan from Troy, IL
Music Background: Playing since 1976 (Rock, Progressive Instrumental Jazz, Christian, Metal, Pop, R&B, etc.) Studio, Gigging

This mute switch is a precise little pedal. The pedal is rugged with a solid quality switch button, and the signal path is isolated very well to ensure zero noise when engaged.

Mutes but with audible pop

By Steve from Chicago

Needed something small and simple to mute while tuning my AG, as I use a headstock tuner. No matter what cords, passive or powered (for light to work), I could not engage or disengage this pedal without an loud audible pop. And these at various volumes driving my sound guy nuts. JHS were actually very helpful and attentive and replaced my unit and even tried modding it somehow, but to no avail. I also had the same issue with their A/B box-same circuitry. Had to return it. For louder electric set ups this is probably not an issue, but for quieter, acoustic-electronic signal paths, this was unacceptable. Ended up using a silent TU-3. No pops and quiet foot switch.

Does NOT mute

By Sweetwater Customer

It reduces the gain significantly, but it doesn't mute.

Garbage.

Handy Accessory

By Bill from IN

It seems simple but this little switch makes life so much simpler. In one of the groups I work with two of us play bass and this makes switching instruments so much faster and easier.

Does just what it is supposed to do!

By GP from Pittsburgh
Music Background: Acoustic Guitarist

Very simple but effective. I place this at the end of my signal chain and it mutes everything. The switch provides a nice audible "click", and the LED is bright and the colors are intuitive. My only minor criticism would be that Velcro does not stick well to the bottom of the pedal due to its textured surface. I have to secure it to my pedalboard with a zip tie just to make sure it stays put.

Great Working Switch

By Lastsunsetmusic from PA

No pop or noise at all. It has a A/C port for the light.

Exactly what I needed. Absolutely noiseless when muting my acoustic through the PA system!

stop it when you need to

Simple.

By Tortilla M. from Always learning

I have an oversized, out-of-production Boss TU-1000 tuner where the mute switch failed on me the week before a huge, outdoor park gig. I got all stressed out. Someone in the band suggested I use an ABY pedal where one signal goes to the tuner and the other to the amp. The problem with putting pedals before a tuner is that then the tuner will have trouble reading your instrument.

This little JHS pedal worked like a breeze. It lights up nice and bright when the signal is going through and turns red when it's in mute.

Nothing fancy, but not great for use without a pedal board

By Douglas W. from CARY, NC

To get the light to indicate whether you are muted, you must be plugged into a power source (batteries not supported). So this makes it a bit tricky for me to use.

Well Built

Works perfectly, solid build.

Overall a great switch!

By Dwight from NEW KENT, VA

The switch works perfectly, no problems there! The only problem I have with the switch is when you press it there's a loud click and I'd rather it be quiet in the setting I'm in. I imagine the click is loud because the pedal is passive, which is understandable.

Does what it says

By Johno from Wisconsin
Music Background: Bass - Worship Band

Beautiful little thing! I set this up so when I'm playing live, that I can tune or preview an improvised riff without it heard by anyone else.

No popping when I cut my feed to the mains - that's the important thing!

It will ring with any note I have currently just played before I click on (unless I silence my guitar strings) which is an interesting effect. The action isn't fast enough to produce stuttering if that's what you are hoping for, it's not a momentary switch, it's ON or OFF. It has a satisfying click when you stomp the button, you can feel it in your foot. If the room is silent then you can hear the click.

If the sound in the house is loud and you can't hear because you haven't upgraded your monitor system - then the blue/red LED let's you know for sure when you are live or not (9v power cable not included). This is helpful because you can see that you are still disconnected when you return to the stage for an encore. Power not necessary for the pedal to work - it's just for the light.

I hadn't paid attention to the description that said the power for the LED is separate. I had an extra 9v power box in my gear. I plugged the power into the same power strip as my other equipment and there was no discernible difference. My guess is that if you have multiple pedals that clip onto a board that the power could be built into the pedal board...it could be wired to one power source so you don't end up with a Christmas tree overload of plugs fighting for your power strip.

Stellar!

By Zuma from Los Angeles, CA

No pops or crackles in the audio path when you engage this little beast! Works as advertised. Keep in mind, the light won't work if you don't plug it in, but otherwise it will function quite happily without a power supply since the rest of the box is passive.

Though the audio path is clean, the physical switch itself produces a satisfying CLICK when you press it. Wait til the recording is over or get ready for the producer to give you a light beating.

I run my lavalier mic into an old Art Tube MP preamp, into an Alesis 3630 (mostly for the gating), into the JHS Mute Switch, into my mixer, which then feeds my computer's line input. This gives me a hands off "Zoom mute" function without showing as "muted" during my Zoom calls. Fancy, eh?

GREAT UTILITY PEDAL FROM JHS

By Mark K. from Beautiful Melbourne Florida
Music Background: Retired, loving life and my wife, recovering from Cancer Surgery

JHS makes several little utility pedals, the mini AB, Sum, Splitter and this one which is a favorite, MUTE. This pedal simply shuts down your guitar signal with a light that goes from BLUE for ON to RED for OFF.

When performing and recording live I switch between guitars and between amps so it is really nice, amid all my stomp boxes, to have this little MUTE waiting to shut everything OFF so I can switch instruments safely and silently.

Made in America, works great, low in price, a killer combination of features. Thanks Josh and Thanks Sweetwater.

Good music to you!

JHS Mute Switch Kill Switch

By Sweetwater Customer

pedal works well to completely kill your sound but is not useful for glitch, stutter type effects.

A well made mute switch

By Sweetwater Customer

I use this as a stand alone mute switch to avoid "pop" when plugging guitar into and out of amp. It even works great on carpeting with my foot in a sock. An inexpensive 9 volt power supply is a must enabling the on/off pilot light.

Exactly What I Needed

By Rick H. from Lawrence, KS
Music Background: Long time musician

I play a bass guitar in my church worship band and it is a quiet stage. I need to plug/unplug the bass quietly during service. Up to now, the quietest way was to first plug/unplug at the DI, then the guitar. There was no way to not have at least a little static pop. This mute switch works perfectly. It makes a mechanical (not noticeable) click when operated, but it is TOTALLY silent in the signal path, so there is no loud popping when I plug/unplug the guitar. It is totally silent and a lot easier. As always the support I get from Aaron and the Sweetwater staff is unbeatable.

It's a mute switch

By Benjamin from Denver
Music Background: Professional

So despite rumors, this is just a mute, it stops signal from going out, and you don't actually need to plug it into a power supply to do that, the power just makes the light go on, in red and blue! This will not blow your speakers, will not damage anything. Read a book, it's cool!

Good for muting if you use a clip-on tuner

By Joe G. from Pennsylvania

Works fine for muting the signal if you have the need. Does NOT "explode with power" (whatever that means) an then take 10 minutes to do anything. It just kills the signal, and then let's it through again the next time you hit the switch.

beware

By joseph y. from St Petersburg, FL

this pedal explodes with power upon un-muting the unit. It will then take about 10 minutes to build back up and explode it again when you un mute again.

This noise it creates is loud enough to burst your speakers.
