Four Speakers Make a Difference

By Chuck G. from Maryland

I guess it doesn't seem like there would be much to say about a speaker cabinet, but it is a nice companion to the Mustang V head. The first thing you will obviously notice is that it is very heavy. It was quite a job getting it up the steps into the house. Then the first thing we did was unpack and put the casters on. If you read my review of the Mustang V head, you will know that I replaced a Mustang IV with the Mustang V. Due to the flexibility of the FUSE software, I was able to easily transfer my presets and settings from the IV to the V. There was a very, very noticeable difference in the sound quality between the two. Since the electronics portion was essentially the same, the fullness in tone and incredible bass had to be due to the speakers.

The cabinet had two jack inputs and was listed as stereo, so two speakers were handling 100 watts and the other two were handling the other 100 watts for a total of 200 watt capacity. The Mustang V head was a stereo head and output 75 watts per channel. I still am learning what it means to have stereo capability on an amplifier that has only one input!

One thing I did want to point out is that two speaker cables are required to connect the head to the cabinet and nowhere in the Sweetwater description, does it mention that those cables ARE INCLUDED with the Mustang V head! If I had known that I would have saved $75 on the premium cables that I purchased with this amp. I guess I should have tried to return them and I'm sure Sweetwater would have taken them back with no trouble, but I kept them anyway. I pointed this out to my Sweetwater rep and he said he would try to get them to add this important info to one or both of the description pages.

This is a very nice reasonably priced half stack. One of the things I noticed is that Sweetwater and a lot of their competitors do not discount the Mustang Amps. Everyone sells them at the Manufacturer's List Price. My assumption is that the price is rock bottom to begin with. I am very happy with this purchase.

Great Cab

By Keith H. from Adrian, MI USA
Music Background: Semi-Pro Musician, Home Recording Engineer

I got the Mustang V with the 4x12 cab just over a month ago now and an very pleased with the amp and cab. I lead praise and worship at my church and also play in a classic rock band. The Mustang V covers it all from crystal clear clean to metal distortion and everything in between. Well done Fender.
