Fender Player Mustang 90 - Aged Natural Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Pau Ferro Fingerboard, and 2 MP-90 Single-coil Pickups - Aged Natural

Fender's Player Series Mustang 90 reintroduces one of the most popular offset body styles with modern updates that are a hit with a new wave of guitar players. The Mustang 90's 24" scale length keeps string tension low and is ideal for players with a naturally smaller frame. The duet of MP-90 single-coil pickups sounds absolutely massive when played clean or through your favorite fuzz pedal. And the Fender Mustang 90's electronics and controls are an intuitive affair that allow you to focus solely on your music.

Easy to play

By Tim from Indian Land, SC on April 23, 2024 Music Background: Home guitar hacker

This was guitar number 10 in my collection….and definitely my favorite. Favorite because I think it is the easiest guitar to play for a lesser talented player like myself. The 24" scale fretboard is much easier to maneuver and work with, and the p90s have a more articulate and controllable sound than humbuckers. The neck pickup has a little "Strat" in it and the bridge has a little " tele" in it. I love all of my guitars, but this one is my favorite….play it through a fender vibrochamp reverb, and it s a nice tone. For the dollar spent, this guitar is a good affordable choice.

I love this guitar for recording

By Zachary Shipstead from Nottingham, MD on April 18, 2024

This is a great guitar for sitting at your desk and recording guitar parts. Small, light, comfortable. P-90 pickups are very versatile and can fuzz up really well, if you want. I own too many guitars, and this is the one I usually grab when I'm getting started playing.

Love it

By Chad from Kentucky on July 11, 2023

I am extremely fond of this Mustang 90. The P90s are fantastic, and I love the finish on the one I have.

The hard tail bridge is a plus as well for me, as I'm not a fan of the traditional Mustang vibrato system.

The guitar has quickly became one of the first I pick up and play, and that says a lot.

If you are considering one, I would say go for it. Awesome value for the money and no complaints here at all.

Fender Mustang

By Dianne Bittenbender from Camas, WA on June 21, 2023 Music Background: I initially got started on the guitar playing acoustic classical music.

I absolutely love this guitar! I bought it because I have small hands and was told that this guitar would be a little easier to play than my Fender Strat.

Right after I purchased it I began to worry that it wouldn't be any easier to play than my Fender Strat and I had probably wasted my money. Well, my fears were unfounded. This guitar is not only more comfortable for my small hands, but note bending is so much easier and the sustain is awesome. I had lighter strings put on and asked for a lower profile. I love playing the blues.

I highly recommend this guitar for anyone with smaller hands.

Fender Mustang P90 natural

Best sounding / playing guitar I ever owned! The p-90s sound AMAZING!

Gorgeous!

By Alastor A. from Colorado on January 13, 2023

I spoiled myself here. I will admit - this was my first online guitar purchase. The idea has always made me nervous, and coupled with my tendency toward being a bargain guitarist, I have not even purchased a brand new guitar in well over a decade. Sweetwater's great customer service in the past led me to try the guitar shop, and I could not be happier with the result. The P-90 pickups are things to behold. Playing through my '65 Twin reissue tube amp I found sparkly clean tones and satisfying high energy overdrive tones. The visual aesthetic was the cherry on top. I was thrilled to find the natural look as an option after I had already decided to go for the Player Mustang 90. The slightly smaller length takes a short time to adjust to, making long stretches more possible and chords easier to grab. What a beauty! This is a keeper for life. The guitar arrived quickly and safely, and the 55-point inspection is on point indeed as I was able to plug and play immediately without issue. Thank you to my sales guy Dave and the rest of the Sweetwater team for creating another great experience. I'll be back...

Acoustic Player but LOVE THIS GUITAR

By Cindy from GA on May 19, 2021

I have played acoustic for many years but arthritis has reeked havoc on my hands. I wanted to try an electric and first bought a USA made Fender Strat Rareties and loved playing it. The drawback was the weight...nearly 10 pounds. An "old" lady like me needed a lighter axe, so I stayed true to the Fender brand. I picked the Mustang 90 Natural because I liked the look. My sales engineer, Brenton Evans, was great and the tech guys did a superb job with the nut upgrade. I am no pro, but definitely have enjoyed playing riffs from my favorite songs. Great guitar!

Great Stang!

By Tingman from Providence, RI on January 30, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

I love this guitar. The P-90's sound unique in my collection being slightly thicker sounding than my single coil guitars and perhaps more articulate than my humbucking guitars. They take gain very well too. The string thru hardtail body adds some nice sustain as well. I love the short scale and light weight as it makes an ideal laptop guitar for fiddling around with while watching TV on your couch or recliner. I highly recommend this guitar and the best thing about ordering it from Sweetwater is that you can see high quality pictures of the guitar you order beforehand. Sending it to a FedEx pickup location worked out well too.

The most versatile pickup - P90’s!!

By James from Connecticut on December 7, 2020 Music Background: Guitar Player all my life

I never thought that this guitar would have the versatility and beauty that it does across cleans and dirt tones. I've played a lot of guitars, and this one really stands out. Super fun to play, and I tell you- Pua Ferro, if you get a good slab, looks fantastic on a maple neck! It's the new way to go. Anyways, the volume knob is really your friend with this one. You can go from the most screaming tone to a very pleasing clean by just rolling it off. If you mess around with it some more, you can get some traditional Mustang single coil tones too. But there's does it fit? If you already have a Strat, and the Les Paul, does this make sense? I think it does!! The tone is very unique, and for the price [An entry level to the fender logo], this guitar is a steal that won't go unplayed. I'd also like to talk about the construction. It's absolutely amazing; the guitar feels perfect, and is a light player. And the neck... it's just awesome. I got a flamed one out of luck, but I can imagine that the experience for the ordinary maple neck is just as good. Super cool guitar!

Can't put it down

By Theodore Culp from WASHINGTON, DC on August 30, 2020 Music Background: years of inconsistent play

This is my first electric 6-string. I've played acoustic previously. Based on 1 review and after talking to my sales engineer I took a chance. Buying a guitar is like buying property; it shouldn't be done without trying/seeing it first. I could not be happier with my decision!! Light action, excellent setup and it looks beautiful! It screams 'play me' and once I start it is very difficult to stop. Big thanks to my sales engineer Noah Huffman who took great care of me! I will not hesitate to buy again from Sweetwater Guitars with Noah's help.

Fender Mustang 90 Aged Natural

By Angela Singer from Wisconsin on February 20, 2020

I received this guitar a few days ago. I have to say that I love everything about it!
It came through the mail so I had to set it up myself. With just a little neck and
action tweaking, it now plays very smoothly. I love the shorter scale neck and the
pickups are very good. The finish is perfect and it is lighter weight than my strat.
There are no sharp fret ends or high frets. It would have been really nice if it came with a
case but I knew it didn't when it was purchased. I ended up buying a "Reunion Blues Aero-E1"
case for it which is a perfect fit for this guitar. I know there are a lot of great choices
for guitar's out there for this price point nowadays, but I am very happy with this purchase!

Pretty good HH

By Brent Culhane from FRISCO, TX on April 18, 2024

I bought this as an upgrade over the Squier Mustang Bullet HH. The hardware was all noticeably nicer, as you would expect for the added price.

The only thing I didn't like was that it doesn't have the body contours of the Squier Mustang. It is a slab body.

Interesting Guitar!

By alton baggett from North Carolina on July 12, 2023 Music Background: Started as a bass player, playing guitar for a year now.

Nice finish on the guitar. Sounds somewhere between a tele & a strat. Getting some cool sounds from this guitar! Overall not bad.
