Fender GTX 100 amp and Sweetwater Services

By Richard Zusman from Los Angeles, Calif. on April 15, 2024 Music Background: 60years experience..still playing professionally and recording albums..lead/rhythm guitar, vocals, fretless 5 string bass, bass pedals. recording albums.

Love the GTX 100, killer combo amp and great compliment for my triple pickup gretsch semi hollow. It's exceeding my expectations and my band of 20 years really digs it. Amp is great bang for the buck and more. For me the amp has a lot of usable sounds and kicks it out well in the studio and recording and live. No regrets with this purchase. Considering I play lead/rhythm guitar, vocals, fretless 5 string bass and bass pedals..having a huge variety of sounds is awesome. Fender tone app works easily and lots of really good stuff there as well.
My rep Brad Jones is great spent lots of time with me regarding the amp and other items as well. The Sweetwater sales people were wonderful and awesome as well, and got my rig to me in two days.
In closing, "I'll Be Back"......

A lot more than I expected

By John Champion on March 5, 2024

I waited several weeks to make this review because I wanted it as accurate as I could get it. OK, so the first one I received, had something wrong with it, which was sort of a bummer. I called SWEETWATER and they immediately sent me out another one. This one worked flawlessly. like all, or at least most modeling devices these days, a lot of the Factory presets on this amp are cheesy. I don't know if these people go to school to learn how to create ugly presets, but this problem plagues our industry for the most part. There are a few nice presets in this amp, such as the fender amps which you would expect to be good, but for the most part, they're just not that great.
Now, to be fair, I'm coming from a much higher dollar class of products. I have owned two fractals, tried the helix extensively for three weeks, owned a Kemper, and am now using a quad cortex. I have also recently tried for a very brief experience, the Tone, Master Pro, which is also great. So as you can see, besides all the real tube amps I've used in the past I am experienced with many great modelers.

Purpose of this amp.
I wanted something that when I didn't want to take my main rig, I could throw in the car and still sound great. I've owned a katana before and I knew its strengths and weaknesses so I wanted something different. After getting this thing in and working with it for about a week, all I can say, is. WOW!! I am blown away by this little thing… you can put the pedals anyway you want, the amps once tweaked sound really really good. Did I say that they sounded really really good? Unfortunately inherent on many of the factory presets, there is this digital high end that just really sounds awful. When I first was going through the presets I was thinking that I had made a mistake. But because of the flexibility of programming, I thought I would give it a try. Here is what I can tell you. If you are willing to treat this amp as seriously as you treat your expensive modelers, you will get tones out of this thing that you would not believe you could achieve for $500. After creating seven or eight presets, I started thinking to myself, do I really need to lug that quad cortex around and its pedal board anymore? Don't get me wrong. This amp doesn't have as much flexibility on certain things, but it packs a wallop of things you can do. It has a built-in looper. It comes with the best control pedal I have ever seen for this priced amp. You can create stomp mode with it, you can have your presets mode, and you can control the looper. There is also a tap tempo and access to the tuner along with a bank control. When comparing it to the fender, flagship tone, master Pro, I really would seriously consider one of those even though it is three times the cost, but I am someone who needs and uses compression in a lot in different applications. I like a little compression with a percussive nature for country. I like a mild compression to smooth out some distortion patches. And I like a lot of non-percussive compression that can be made very Legato for jazz. This amp can do it all. As a matter of fact, the compression circuit in this amplifier is much better than the one in the tone master pro… fender really needs to address the lack of squash on their compression in the tone master pro. I could not achieve the level of Lagato style compression I was trying to create with the tone master Pro. But with this mustang GTX 100 I had no problems. I am an older guy and have been playing guitar since I was six years old and I am now 63. I have played every style out there with many bands And I have done a lot of recording for different people. I am not into metal. I don't know how well this amp would do that even though it offers a few patches for it. I am more of Van Halen sound on the rock side, along with the very warm Eric Johnson, Santana type sounds when playing different styles. Of course, I love all the fender twang, and the Bluegrass and the aggressive country sounds that this amp does real well. With all these different styles, including clean, heavy, jazz work, I created some killer presets. All I can tell you is that I am very impressed with this thing. I will definitely be using it. If you know what you're doing and you know what you're looking for, you can most likely find it on this little beast. Thank you FENDER and thank you SWEETWATER, I am having a blast with this little thing. I call it little because it's small and light, but it's not little on TONE believe me!
Respectfully, John Champion.

Great Amp

By Jack from Laingsburg, MI on March 4, 2024 Music Background: Worship leader and band mate

I had an older Mustang 100 (V3) and with my new guitar purchase I was going to get a standard AMP and then all of the effects and pedals to create the sounds I wanted. I instead decided to upgrade to the GTX 100 and I am super happy with my decision. Besides the cost, the benefits are many: I can create literally any sound I want. The combination of the 7 button footswitch and Fender Tone app on my iPad, I am 100% satisfied. The interface is easy to learn and organizing setlists with my favorite preset designs is simple and efficient. Love this Amp!

By Matt from Minnesota on January 28, 2024 Music Background: Grew up with a guitar

Haven't had it very long, two months but it works perfectly, I just leave it on. I believe with a good playin guitar, to get better at playin leave your guitar on the stand so you can see it, because if you can see it, you will play it, and if you play it, you will get better. It models other amps pretty good and a good sound makes you want to play more.

Fender Mustang GTX-100

By Douglas Kralowetz from Las Vegas on December 18, 2023 Music Background: Jazz, classic rock, blues, classical, pop music. I studied with Howard Roberts,Joe Pass, Chet Catallo & Florissant Community college in St. Louis.

The Mustang's manual is downloaded & can be a bit difficult at times to understand but l'm 72 years old & if l can work it out, so should anyone with moderate computer skills. I've played everything from Kiss to Al DeMeola & the sound selection is terrific. Not totally sold on all the overdrive highs but generally speaking this amp is pretty incredible. I'm playing jazz & fusion these days & the tones for clean guitar are killer & the Celestion speaker gives a pretty accurate rendition of a 60's-80's Marshall. I certainly had my reservations about this amp but after playing on it, I am pretty convinced it was a great choice. !

Mustang GTX

By Mike Hutchins from Roaring Springs Tx on October 23, 2023 Music Background: Praise and worship band, church band.

Just what I was looking for. A 100 watt amp, that doesn't weigh a ton. The different amp types are very good. Clean types are Fender clean. The only problem I had was the set up instructions weren't explained enough. But I'm old and technical stuff takes me some time. If you are looking for an amp that will do it all , the GTX is what you need. Thanks Erick . Good advice as always.

Experiment and Go

By David D. from Northern California on October 4, 2023 Music Background: Experienced amateur. Once upon a time I gigged for money, but no longer.

Over the course of my playing years, I've owned a Fender Showman (1x15"), Fender Frontman 25r, Peavey Bandit 112, Fender Mustang GT40, and now, for a little over a year, the GTX100. Out of the box, it did everything as advertised. All the Fender amp models (presets) sounded close to the amps they were emulating. I settled into the Fender Deluxe Reverb preset; experimented with the different onboard effects; and got the sound I was looking for by adding a little reverb and a touch of delay along with dialing in the EQ. That configuration became my goto jazz/blues preset. To that I created a second (modified) preset using that same configuration, adding on a tiny bit of wah and fuzz and using the included pedal to toggle back and forth between these two presets, when I want to add a little color to my primary clean sound. The results are sweet.

I did not and do not expect a recreated, completely tube sound. It's very close. It's a sound all its own, and a good sound at that. Configured as I've done, it exceeds my expectations. For me, it was money well spend.

Versatility Amplified.

Great amp with a full sound. The presets are fantastic & easy to use with the Fender Tone app. Came with a 7 button foot switch. Unfortunately the foot switch cable was defective & I have requested a replacement.
Shipping was fast.

Incredible!

By PT from WA on February 24, 2023 Music Background: Playing a few years acoustic and electric

These modeling amps are really getting nice. I also have a Spark and like the Bluetooth compatibility as I'm an old guy. Anyway, I've had this about a month and have really just scratched the surface. I've gone through all 189 various amp settings and weeded it down to about 70 or so that are useful for me. You literally have thousands of combinations even without using the Fender Tone App which I will get to soon. The 20 or so standard amp settings (Blues Jr, Twin Reverb, Bassman etc.) are all very good and also a great starting point to play around with adding effects etc. My Sweetwater guru James Wroblewski was awesome as always!

This GTX - great sound from a digital, love the presets

By Tony Ludwig from Greater Philadelphia Area, PA on February 9, 2023 Music Background: Blues guitar player

The GTX100 is awesome. MY favorites - Twin Reverb Clean, 59 Bassman Beef, and the SRV presets. Added extra pre-post fx to get that total tone and sound...Fun and definitely more than just a practice amp - more than enough power and with the foot switch, excellent for small to medium gigs!

Love my MTX -100

By Brian from Massachusetts on February 3, 2023 Music Background: Beginner/intermediate guitar player

This amp hits the spot for me.. I love how easy it is to use, the compatibility with the Fender Tone app, Bluetooth connectivity is simple and it comes with its own foot pedal… as a beginner it has really taken my playing to new level because of I am able to discover a ton of new tones and it's just making learning a lot more fun!

Versatile, great sounding, really happy with this amp

By WizardOfBoz from Pennsylvania on January 26, 2023 Music Background: More aspirational than realistic...

I'm using this for practice with a strat and a Taylor 814ce. I use a clean Fender amp for the strat, and I put together an amp and effects (acoustasonic with large hall) for the 814. Really sounds great with both setups. I've only explored other sounds a bit but there's not much of a limit to what this can do.

Much easier to practice with in a small home office than my ProSonic(!). Looper function is cool.

The bluetooth connection allows you to port in tracks to play along with. Very nice.

Only downside is that the bluetooth connection is 1) not secured by a password, and 2) sometimes gets confused.

I'd buy this again. Wish I'd bought it sooner.

Fender hit a Home Run with this amp!

By Steve from Olympia, WA on January 18, 2023 Music Background: retired pro entertainer

First off, I am a retired pro musician. Over the years I have owned hundreds of guitar amps. I started with tube amps and loved the tone but when I began to be constantly on the road performing, I switch to solid state because of how fragile and finicky the tubes could get, not to mention how hard it could be to find tubes out on the road. And as I aged over the years the weight of a Fender Twin became a pain to set up along with all the other gear I was setting up as well.
I have had several modeling amps before along with modeling floor pedals and rack units, and they were interesting at times but the Fender GTX 100 has surpassed all of them. The technology has come a long ways. The previous Fender Mustang amps may have been somewhat similar, but their appearance turned me off for on stage use.
The GTX sounds do very well for modeling Fender classic tube amps and OK for Marshalls. The effect section is very satisfying. And the weight and stage presents are great. The output volume is enough for most live shows and if you need more, it has direct outs to send to the PA.
Over all I am very happy with this amp. Over the years I have learned that it can be hard for most guitar players to listen with their ears and not with their eyes, egos, and preconceived ideas, but if you can, this may become one of your favorite amps. Even though I currently own seven different guitar amps (both solid state and tube) this is my go-to amp now!

Great product

Love it, easy to use

Amazing Amp.

By Timothy Swafford from CHICKAMAUGA, GA on December 19, 2022

This amp blows me away, from the 200 presets, footswitch with a loop station, and app that helps control the amp, you can actually do everything straight from the amp without needing the app. There's so much you can do to each preset. Well worth the buy on this one.

Caught Between a Vox and a Hard Place

By Nick from Virginia, USA on December 7, 2022 Music Background: Self taught, home recording

My take as a guitarist of 23 years:

My first big amp at the experimental age of 16 was a Vox Valvetronix AD120VT and I loved it! As possibly the biggest Beatle-maniac of my generation (not claimed lightly), the bright and shiny sound it delivered came right out of my mop-topped dreams. Sadly, that amp hammer an untimely end and I was given a handmedown Fender Princeton Chorus to take its place. A few knobs were missing, the treble had to be north of 8 to avoid crackling; and yet, it was a pleasant surprise having never experienced what Fender could put out. But time was not this amp's friend either and soon I needed something meatier to feed my sound.

Now for the reason you're reading this review. This product is exactly what you want from a modeling amp! I was caught between a Vox and a hard place with my upgrade options and I have to say, the Vox-style presets take you straight to 1964. It has so many setups to enjoy and when worked with the app, it's smooth; there's no other way to put it. The cabinets, pedals, pre and post setting options: chef's kiss. It's not like having the real deal, but short of spending thousands on one rig to get that Eric Johnson vibe, you get so close with this you can practically feel the mist from the White Cliffs.

Bang for your buck, you can't beat it for $ with a foot pedal. It also doubles as a Bluetooth speaker to play along with your favorite tunes. If you're looking for an amazing amp to help you discover your sound or jam until you have blisters on your fingers then look no further!

Pro tip on WiFi setup

By Sweetwater from Frankfort on November 11, 2022 Music Background: Guitar teacher, 8 years

Some users have mentioned that the length of the password you can enter through the amp's onboard user interface is limited to so many characters. You can enter a longer WiFi password if you do the setup in the Fender Tone Bluetooth app on your phone or tablet. I'm not sure how many characters this method can accommodate, but for me it made all the difference because I didn't have to change my WiFi password to something shorter and therefore potentially less secure.

Fender Mustang GTX - 100

By Scot Weeks from Dallas, TX on September 30, 2022

Fabulous amp! Worked perfect out of the box. No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi issues. So many great amp models to choose from. The fender amp models are spot on and even the high gain 'other' models can be tweaked to sound smashingly well. Keep in mind it is a solid state amp so you're not going to get the warm fuzzy a valve amp provides when you turn it up to the point of breakup but I must say I am impressed with the sound quality on this amp. Fender did it right with this one. One very happy customer. Sweetwater rules! Hats off to my sales tech Josh Stridd, as always your knowledge and advice is superb.

Great sounding amp

By Robert Urban from San Diego on September 9, 2022 Music Background: novice

I have a Boss Katana 50 which is great warm up amp. But if I want to do any serious recording I go to the fender mustang GTX 100 because it has has a line out right and a line out left instead of a headphone out. Had a little trouble at first with the bluetooth but after a few times it settled in. There are so many possibilities that its hard to get bored.

Amazing amp

By James Larsen from HONESDALE, PA on August 19, 2022

This amp is amazing I received it yesterday and it preforms as advertised in the video. I probably used less the 10% of what it can do and I'm impressed.. thanks Sweetwater.

Best one yet!

By Big C from Carmel IN on August 17, 2022 Music Background: Experienced musician

I've had my GTX100 for well over a year now a gig with it twice a month. My previous amps were good. I up graded from a Mustang IV to a Mustang III v2 and now to the GTX100. Amazing how Fender has improved on these modeling amps over the last 10 years. Remember the Cyber-twin? So much more to offer now and so much better in price.

I go through our PA through the XLR and still have an active speaker with volume on stage. Keeps up with my loud drummer.

Foot pedal is easy to use as well as is the looper function. Built in tumer is a must and works well.

The Fender tone AP is very useful as well and expands the versatility, fine tuning and amps abilities. There are 100s of downloads of community patches.

Overall very happy with this amp. Good for home studio use as well as live gigs with a full band. I look forward to the next generation and improvements.

Heavy Weight Amp Weighing In At 21 lbs.

Love my Fender Mustang 100. I dialed it in so it sounds exactly like my old Peavey Bandit 65...did, 40 years ago, as I recall, but way cleaner. People come up and remark about the fabulous sound quality at gigs. Thanks.

Great value and tone

By Sweetwater customer from Frankfort on July 11, 2022 Music Background: Guitar teacher, 8 years

The features, convenience, value, and tone of the Mustang GTX100 make it a solid choice for many types of users. It models a whole slew of classic and modern amps, cabinets, dirt pedals, and effects, in addition to having Bluetooth and WiFi. It is in some ways a competitor to the Boss Katana range, but it is also laid out very differently and has a completely different sound and feel.

Many of the amps and cabs represented here are Fenders, which is not surprising. The scope of the offerings is impressive, spanning decades and many brands, and the faithfulness of the amp's tone to the originals ranges from the usable to the quite good. The GTX 100 does find itself at a disadvantage when called upon to mimic a 100-watt half-stack with a 4x12 cab, but you have to keep your expectations realistic considering the open-back 1x12 format and the price. It is definitely a guitar amp first and foremost (not an FRFR), and sounds like it when you play music through it over Bluetooth to jam along.

Control is pretty comprehensive from the onboard controls. You get the ability to edit, save, name, and call up presets with the top-mounted buttons and jog dial, and you can connect a smartphone or tablet and do all this with Fender's free app, via Bluetooth. (This worked very well for me.) You can also set up the GTX 100 as a WiFi client to download firmware updates and preset patches directly to the amp. You can connect to a computer over USB and use it for direct recording, but you can't edit presets or do setup functions that way.

If you like to have lots of different amp tones and effects available without a floor full of pedals and without spending a lot of money, the Mustang GTX 100 is worth considering. It's another of those fairly recent products that will make you wish it had been available when you first started playing.

More Than Meets The Ear

By Will R from Mo on June 17, 2022 Music Background: 31 years musician, singer, songwriter

So it has been a little more than a year since my last review and I just wanted to sag that this amp still checks all the boxes PLUS! The plus is their USB DAW capabilities. I hadn't used it at the time of writing my last review but man does it NEED mentioning. 1. The sound is sustained and delivered
when running straight into a CPU for
recording.

2. (And here's the kicker) I found it quite
capable of handling guitar, bass, and even
vocals WHEN RUNNING STRAIGHT TO CPU BY USB
(Use HEADPHONES NOT SPEAKER)

With that said, I cannot emphasize enough my "poor man's" delight when I realized and executed a full recording using my GTX as my DAW engine and feeding it into my recording program. There is pretty much every effect needed for a good demo and although they may be for guitar, they adjust quite nicely for bass and vocals as well.

This is just another testament to the level of processing and quality Fender has put into this amp. Read my first review and other's reviews and you'll get a good idea to just how much you get when you get this amp. I can't recommend it enough. DO get the pedal though...(comes with 100 watt not with 50 watt)

DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend using this product for LIVE sound for ANYTHING OTHER than guitar as that is what it was designed for and what the speaker is meant to handle.

My favorite amp purchase in years

By Eric Reid from Fenton, MI on May 25, 2022 Music Background: 30 years, session musician

I bought this amp as a practice amp so I could turn down when needed, but retain the point of breakup that would start rattling window with my tube amps. I have been slowing growing to really love this amp the more I dig into it. The tone is there for all Fender models and almost there (really close) for the Marshall modeled amps. The built in pedals are what really surprised me as they are REALLY good and respond just like the pedals they are modeled after.
When dialed in, this amp has the FEEL and TONE of a good tube amp and I tried the FRFR route with a Helix, but ended up selling it because this amp just does it for me (all my musician friends agree). The feel is where most modelers miss and I'm getting it from this Mustang. I liked this amp so much that I bought a Tone Master DR and Fender is doing it right. Look it up, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam is now playing a Tone Master live. The difference between the TM and Mustang are very little, it's there, but it's very slight. If you're on a budget this will get you there.
The most important thing I learned from this amp was to just use my ears when dialing in a tone and not to adjust things like I would on one of my old tube amps. The Mustang takes external pedals extremely well, the main outputs sound great at FOH, and it's just an amazing practice tool with the built in looper and Bluetooth.

Good Choice

By Bill Kinahan from Illinois on May 20, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate

This amp does everything I need and sounds great. There are 190 preloaded preset models to choose from with room for more. You can download the Fender tone app on your phone or IPad and connect to the amp via Bluetooth and customize or add additional models. The Bluetooth works flawlessly. The GTX100 came with a foot switch for changing between effects, and has a looper too.
This is a versatile great sounding amp I'm very glad I picked this unit. My sales engineer Wayne Wildman always makes sure there are no issues and that I'm happy with the purchase.
Sweetwater service is second to none.

Excellent amplifier.

By James Barnes from Dublin, GA on May 8, 2022 Music Background: Long time hobbyist and bar band stunt double

Lightweight. A lot lighter than my tube amps. Responsive. Can get results from dynamic variations and instrument controls. Loud. Definitely loud enough to gig. Or run it to the board. Manageable at bedroom volume as well. Solid amp sounds, a history lesson in the sounds you've heard. Stronger in the clean to crunch range, but workable up to higher gain. Decent range of usable effects, solid general usage types, workhorse variety things you might actually use. Fender Tone app for adjusting settings has a great interface with better visual presentation than the Boss Katana software if you are used to physical pedals. Flexibility of bluetooth editing is a plus. USB out to Ipad is useful. I do recommend changing the global eq to something besides flat, think of it as a speaker and cab response tweak. Big box of tools to create sounds with, without option paralysis. Thanks a bunch to my Sweetwater representative Jeff Weinstein for the recommendation!

Very sweet

Mustang GTX100 is a winner!

By Sweetwater Customer on April 21, 2022 Music Background: Played in bands since the 1960s, rock, country, gospel, blues, folk, western swing.

I needed something light-weight and loud. This filled the bill. The big bonus is the great sound. I'm very happy with the amp. I'm still narrowing down which amp models and effects I'll use at a gig. There are so many to choose from. I've found a lot of good ones built into the amp, plus there are so many good ones I can download from the Fender website. I didn't think I'd ever use a looper, but I'm enjoying that, as it is a good practice tool. I'd recommend this amp. I've played for over 50 years and have had many different amps. This is as good or better than any of them, tube amps included.

Impressed!

By Sweetwater Customer from GA on March 22, 2022

It's been over 40 years since I last had an electric guitar and amp. Amps have certainly changed!! I'm blown away by the tech and the sound options/quality. So far, I have no complaints with the amps performance. It looks and sounds well made and it arrived in perfect condition out of the box. The amp packs a lot of punch for the price.

Phenomenal Tones and ease of use with phenomenal value!

By Christopher Williams from Hillsboro, OR on March 21, 2022 Music Background: Singer, Songwriter, Extraordinaire

The ease of use of Amp and Looper right out the box is what has impressed me the most. You literally have access to copious amounts of tones, pedals, and amp models at your fingertips. I honestly can't believe this Amp only cost $ as the quality and ease of use of this thing is nothing short of a miracle. If you don't want to tote around pedal boards, Amp heads, and speaker Cabinets this Amp is your new best friend. This is Amp works great for Live Use, Home practice use, and Recording. Way to go Fender! Glad I took the leap of faith. I will be recommending this Amp to my fellow gear head buddies!

My new favorite amp

By Phil from Chicago on February 2, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate player

Never thought that a solid state amp could possibly be this good. Has many amp models built in that sound just like what they are modeling. The Deluxe Reverb sounds every bit as good as my vintage tube model. And it is much easier on the back. I have a Peavey and Marshal Solid State that get the job done but leave a bit to be desired tone wise. I have a crate 2x12 and fender DR tube amp. Like the tone but they wwweigh a ton. This is the best of both worlds.

Fantastic Amp

By Terry Hoffman from Albert, KS on January 25, 2022 Music Background: Professional Musician

I will try to make this brief but, not too much. I'm a musician that has been playing for well over 50yrs and I've never seen anything like this. A dream come true! Started my career with Fender tube amps cause that's all there was. Went to solid state in the late 70s ditched the tubes, pain in the b#tt and expensive and undependable. 1996 Line6 Flextone60 first modeling amp. Didn't like it at first but the more I got into it the better it was. That amp lasted for 20yrs until it smoked one night at a gig. Stayed with Line6 until Katana 100 came along, not a bad amp at but I had issues with accessing effects and presets. Gave a Peavey Vipyr Vip2 a shot, Great amp but the preset issues ended this to. Tried a Fender Twin Reverb Tonemaster with a multi effects pedal but, in the search I completely missed the Mustang gtx100. Well the Twin was just too much amp and the multi FX pedal was just excess baggage.
So I started reading and watching reviews about modeling amps and Mustang really grabbed my attention! Every box was checked in my wants and needs! I was completely astounded at everything I read and watched. It was like why didn't I notice this amp when I purchased the Twin? I've went on too much already so I'm going to cut to the quick.
Everything about this amp is 5 star all the way! Looks,Sound,Weight,Ease of setup and, use. The app makes working with amp a sheer pleasure! But honestly some of the features that are digital act as analog as you could want. Some of the presets are typical of modeling amps but others are awesome. Love the included footswitch, set your presets, add some more pedals to the presets and you have the best pedalboard you could ever want. Looper is cool, built in tuner, it's all there! My usual setting for the master gain is around 10 o'clock, 12 o'clock is VERY LOUD! Highly recommend this amp, it's all you could want!

You name it,you can get (or program) any amp you want out of this baby,it has Mesas,Marshalls,Voxes and so many other amps programmed into it. I own the GTX 100 and it is plenty loud for live gigs, even without having to go through a PA.Iam more than happy with this amp and you'll be too!It is easy to program and has tons of quality effects you can use

Most versitile amp

By George Shorter from GAINESVILLE, FL on December 2, 2021

This is a "do it all" amp. So many tones! I am very happy to have bought the GTX 100 because I find myself using the peddle all the time. It allows me to switch between all the voices and use the looper and tuner all while not having to go over to the amp. The app for the amp works very well too, but it's really more convenient to use the peddle. The amp is loud enough to be the only amp I need and it's very light for the size. Very Very happy!

Great amp! Love it! Great customer service.

By Sweetwater Customer on September 4, 2021 Music Background: Just a hobbyist

This amp is awesome. I love the different tones you can download with the app. Examples: Pixies distortion, Nirvana chorus, even random things like Collective Soul Shine. It is super light making it easy to move around. It takes pedals well. It looks super cool and sounds amazing. It plays well at lower volume levels, so I can play at my house w/o disturbing my family. It also plays loud so I can jam with my friends. Can't recommend this amp more. Of course I received excellent customer service from Aaron Kinney. He spoke to me on the phone for about 45 minutes to help me narrow down my choices until I landed on this awesome amp. Sweetwater is the best.

THIS AMP IS "THE CATS MEOW!!!!

By Steve Berry from LaFontaine IN. on August 25, 2021 Music Background: Beginner

I had done some research on the major modelling amps and decided on trying to get a Fender GTX50.I liked the slew of presets, different amps and a effects. Low and behold a demo popped up and a quick trip to Sweetwater, it was done. This amp is FANTASTIC !!! I don't have to buy peddles, cords, peddle boards etc. All's I have to do is turn it on and turn a knob. It sounds great and plenty loud. It makes my new Les Paul Standard sound like it's suppose to. Thanks Fender and Sweetwater for having just what I wanted.

Great amp

By Brad Rhodes from Kentucky on July 8, 2021 Music Background: Thrash metal/ cow punk

Coming from a katana 50mk1 it was tough getting a good high gain tone but it is doable with the tone app. My only gripe is when your first playing for the first minute or two it likes to cut out for a second here and there. Other than that it's a absolute beast compared to the katana and I think it's worth the extra money. Plus no PC required. You don't even need your phone it's all right there and that's truly a lifesaver.

Best modeling amp I’ve used

By Me from Middlebury on July 7, 2021 Music Background: Bass, guitar, keys, producer, noodler

I've owned regular tube and solid state amps and many modeling amps over the years. Several years back I built a pedal board to get the exact effects I wanted. I saw this amp and was curious about both the modeling and the effects, and watched several videos. I took the chance and ordered and it was a great choice. A lot of modelers have some throw in sounds that aren't really usable, and this does have a few, but out of the box, this has some of the most impressive presets from the factory I've heard. They nail the amps and the effects are great, and can easily be tweaked as needed. Killer amp IMO. Buy it.

Wow

By Dan from Indiana on June 22, 2021 Music Background: Sound, bass, guitar, cook

All I can say is wow. I purchased this amp to motivate me to practice as I have been needing the desire. This amp blew me away, pretty fast. I synced the app up to my phone and the amp , registered it and was off. I've owned several modeling amps and this takes the cake. Most have a few good sounds and then a bunch of fillers. This surprisingly has many great sounds out of the box with a lot more within tweaking distance. There are some fillers, and sims I probably wouldn't use, but again tweak away with the phone and you're there. There are a pretty mind boggling amount of effects, and all are fully adjustable, which is one reason I purchased this. I am not disappointed with it either. I found myself trying to play licks off the names of some of the presets suggesting many guitar players and their tones, and again, out of the box, it's pretty impressive. This amp makes me want to practice. I have 2 problems; the time to get into all this has to offer, and my phone battery. But I guess I can tweak from an Ipad just as easily. If you want a good, lightweight amp, that is definitely able to gig, and you don't like pedals, and the cost, I highly recommend this. Can't wait to start really getting into it. Thanks!

Exceeded my expectations

By Lindsay from Canberra, Australia on June 7, 2021 Music Background: experienced

Where do I start,
This amp is so easy to operate and the sound is amazing it blew me away, It took all of a minute to connect this to my phone.
The Fender tone app on the phone is really nice to use and easy to deep dive into the amp or effects or cab you want to use.
From there I trickled through the presets which gave me a good idea of the sounds I could get and from there I easily created my own patches.
Within 20 minutes I created about 5 patches, a basic clean, a lovely chorus clean, a mean metal rhythm channel, a screaming lead channel and another lead channel with some flange and chorus for that lovely smooth flowing effect.
I had the Boss Katana 50 mkII and I loathed it, I couldnt get the tone central to work, the gain channel had a heap of hiss to it and it wasn't fun to use for me.
With the Fender I find it hard to stop playing it sounds so great and it's so easy to use.
With all the different amps/modulations/effects/reverbs/delays and so on, you name it and it's there, I'd saying 99% of what you need is there unless there is something really niche.
One thing I love about this amp is how quiet it is, I had the amp on my rhythm channel one day and my son must've turned the volume up to about halfway without me noticing, the amp was that quiet I was unaware and when I started playing it nearly blew my head off.
If you're a metal player like I am don't dismiss this amp, It's loud, it's aggressive, it chugs, it's tight and percussive, the metal gate does an amazing job of keeping the amp dead quiet when you're not playing or doing lots of stop/start playing, I think this amp has about 4 or 5 different hi-gain amp models.
Also this amp has the 7 button footswitch which is really makes it ideal for ease of use and for things like gigging.
Plus you have XLR outs for additional speakers and stereo effects loop and a 60 second looper.
If I had to be super picky I would say that the amp has limitations if you get to crazy with your signal chains.
Once you reach about 6 things in your signal chain it starts hitting its limit but I guess that's to be expected.
I 100% recommend this amp to anyone, I'm still amazed after having it for 6 months.

Great amp for anything!

By Brian Ginter from Jacksonville, NC on May 13, 2021

I was very excited to get this amp. I previously had a Fender Mustang GT50. No complaints with that. But I decided to upgrade because I liked the idea of finding a tone on the app and downloading it on my amp. I couldn't believe how easy it was to set up and use! It is very very loud. I have it turned almost all the way down. I'm tempted to turn it up but I'd have to stand outside and play. You can practice on this and even play a show with this, it's that loud. I wouldn't buy the GTX 50... because if you want the footswitch, that's another $... Why not just get the bigger amp and get the footswitch included? That was my thinking. I can play acoustic and then step on the footswitch and absolutely shred. I have used this amp every single day and I have no complaints. Part of me wants to upgrade to a tube amp, but that's when it starts to get really expensive. I don't want to buy a bunch of pedals to find my tone. I can just go on the app and make changes to a preset and find the tone I'm looking for in less than 5 minutes.

GTX100

By TOS from Nashville on May 5, 2021

I got this for a practice and or easy travel amp. It's surely more expensive than I wanted to spend on a practice amp but I just couldn't bring myself to buy a little orange amp or something of the like. This thing sounds great for a small solid state amp with my Strat. Not near as good as my tube amp but more than good enough to practice. I haven't tried to use the aux input or Bluetooth yet if I have any problems I'll get back on here. This thing is light enough to be picked up with a pinky finger and should fit in the trunk of my little 2 seater. 5 stars. 2 thumbs up.

It has everything!

This amp is the best I found! It has Bluetooth so you can jam with the song. It has a endless supply of amps and effects. I recommend getting the expression pedal with it. You will need it for some of the effects. Don't get any brand but the fender pedal. Love the amp and thank you Sweetwater for the customer service like no other!

Exciting versatile powerful Amp

By Raymond R. from MD on May 1, 2021

I have only owned three amps in my life had a Vox Valvetronix for over 15 years until it just died. I loved that but this is that and so much more. This has over 40 amps throughout history to use and hundred of effects. The amount of sounds you can get are huge. It comes with 190 already set up presets and 10 empty ones. Almost hard to stop playing around with them. The Tone app is almost a must as it is just easier to navigate everything except that is missing some of the deep settings you can find under the controls layer. There is almost no reason to mess with the control knobs on the amp (except the master volume) as you will do most of the adjustments under the controls layer or in the tone app.

I kind of wish there was a blank clean setting to go to so you can just use the control knobs for simplicity but I guess you can go to an empty preset to do that.

Only other thing I wish was that there were more empty presets to create more of your own tones. I hate to delete any of the ones they came with. I know chances are you will not use a lot of them and yes you can reset deleted ones but not something I want to do. Otherwise this amp is truly amazing. I had a katana MKII 100 for a couple of days but I didn't like the overall tone at all and it had a serious hum over 1/4 volume. Not sure why that one gets so much love.

If this Mustang lasts it will be the best amp I have ever owned. It literally replaces thousands of dollars of musical gear.

Fender GTX100 Surprise

By Eagle44 from Northern Virginia on April 28, 2021 Music Background: Former pro, currently noodle for fun, teach kids a little about guitar.

I am surprised (shocked)! I have owned many different modeling amplifiers over the years. All somewhat reasonable in modeling. But, I've got to say, the GTX100 far exceeded my expectations and produces, without a whole lot of programming skills, a great representation of many, many amp, speaker, and effects. I recommend this amp to anyone interested in real sound quality from a modeling amp.

Amazing technology, realistic tube sound and feel

By Timothy M Bailey from CA on April 19, 2021 Music Background: I started playing guitar in 1968

I'm a 40 year "tube" fanatic, but I've been won over. Sure, it's only 90% tube realistic
but It's close enough for me. Plus I don't have to deal with the headache of tubes going bad,
and of schlepping an 80lb tube amp around any more. The thing I like best is that the the
digital effects are built-in to the amp. A 7 button footswitch and an expression pedal have
actually replaced my pedal board. Plus a built-in looper and tuner. Best $ I ever spent!

Endless Possibilities

By Will from MO on April 8, 2021 Music Background: 30 yrs. Singer, Songwriter, Musician

First off, HUGE THANK YOU to KEN NACE and the Sweetwater Gang!!! I've always been a "tube junkie" when it has come to my amps in the past. Some of my favorites being the Fender Hot Rod line for their Groove Tubes, truly clean sound and reverb that are simply hard to beat. Modelinv technology has come a long way though in the last several years and between the versatility, amazing tones, nearly endless possibilities (amps, cabinet mods, and effects), combined with the light weight physically as well as on my wallet...THIS AMP hit ALL the right marks for me. It's perfect for beginning and intermediate players yes...BUT it's also great for an old gear head like me because while I do have my "signature" sounds that I rely on, I've opened up additional doors to my creativity with this amp as I'm able to pair my favorite effects with some amazing amps and make my own unique combinations without having to purchase a ton of new gear or recycling a bunch of gear to get there. It's extremely light and compact but very loud and the sound quality is great through the 12" speaker. The pedal is absolutely a necessity and I'm glad it's included. I'm not taking any points off but the only room for improvement I would suggest would be for it to either come with dual 10" or 12" speakers as some of the effects are designed for stereo use. This should not be a deterrent though because the lines out will run stereo through PA or recording DAW.

Amazing Amp

By EL James from Austin on January 30, 2021 Music Background: Hack

The tone and versatility of this Fender GTX 100 is amazing.
It does take a bit fiddling of all the settings to get what you want. But when you get there you will put away your tube amps.

As a certified Mustang expert I can tell you previously that with all other models the first thing I did was swap out the speaker to turn them into great amps. That was my only previous complaint - they put speakers in that are a compromise to play regular music / line-in accompaniment, and cost.

However... with the GTX 100 I can say the improved Celestion speaker they put in these are as good as it gets.
I tried other speakers, while they sounded DIFFERENT, I won't say BETTER. I ended up putting the original back on. So save your money don't even bother. That being said, when I first turned it on I thought it sounded like an AM radio... it definitely needed to be broken in. Superbly smooth & sweet when it was. And most definitely use an amp stand to get it off the floor and pointing at you.

I actually also bought the new Katana Artist MK2.
The Katana amp does appear better built and more solid, also with an amazing new speaker.
That being said, I always went back to the GTX for more fun and better vintage tones. The Katana only has 4 amp amp types. And each one is an extension of the previous. Add max gain to the "clean" and that is where the next "crunch" starts. So its basically 1 amp type, that you can extensively modify with the App.
So ended up returning the Katana, and keeping the GTX, if that says anything.

The GTX 100 does absolute great vintage tones of old Fender & British amps.
There are several modern tones also, I just never worked with them.

Quick review. I originally ordered a 100 Watt amp with a 12 inch speaker, but it was not what i had expected. I reached out
to my Sales Engineer at Sweetwater and let him know which amp i wanted to exchange it for. There were no problems and no issues. They sent me a return shipping document. I shipped it back while they were shipping me the Fender GTX 100 x12.

It was really smooth with no hick-ups and i really like the Fender GTX. I am having a blast with it and the Fender Tone app.

Crucial pro features that few ( if any ) others have

By GEO from A dying Planet ravaged by corporate greed on October 30, 2020 Music Background: FIrst gold record in 1980, thousands of sessions, dozens of tours, kind of pro

Yes, it sounds good!, Sure it's easy to program. It's lightweight! (Thank you Fender!)

But CRUCIAL among the long list of pro features is the STEREO OUTS, both XLR and 1/4" .

Most amateurs and even many pros just don't realize the importance of STEREO operation for getting the maximum benefit from your effects and distortion.

Want to play something more advanced than simple power chords but WITH DISTORTION? Then you absolutely need a STEREO chorus or flanger to make those pretty major-thirds and sevenths sound good.

Want the hypnotic disorientation of synchronized ping-pong delays? Your "ping" can't "pong" without STEREO.

Crave the "harmonic mind-bath" of luscious room reverbs on Mu 9 chords? They are MAGIC in STEREO.

Now here is the beauty bit... This little monster has only ONE speaker, so by itself, it does not produce stereo sound. But as soon as you run it to FOH, your little 22lb friend becomes a HUGE PAIR of pro-quality twins or Marshal stacks, or VOX AC30s, ot anything else in the internal model list. The same is true for PRACTICING at home or in a hotel room. Your HEADPHONES give you the same harmonic mind bath without angry knocks at the door.

What's that you say? You don't like modeling amps? Fine. Neither do I. But that's what your pedals are for, and that's another great feature of this amp. It takes pedals in front or in back of the preamp section.

Your distortions will sound better in front, you can get rid of noise with the internal noise gates, then send post distortion STEREO signal through the LR effect send + returns in back.

STEREO tremolo, STEREO chorus, STEREO reverb, STEREO distortion, STEREO flanging, STEREO delays, ...ALL sound WAY more than TWICE as good compared to mono. You and most of your audience will always have TWO EARS.

That's why STEREO is crucial for pro sounds, and that's why THIS amp ROCKS.

The KATANA 100 has a stereo link feature, which is also nifty. But to use that, you MUST BUY another KATANA 100.

With this Mustang, you can carry one lightweight amp and connect to ANY other amp or amp pair or FOH stereo PA. All you need are the right cables ( either 1/4" or XLR) and the sound engineer will usually have those.

Over the last decade, I've owned every model Mustang amp, and they've all been reliable. The reason I got this one is solely because it is so much lighter in weight. Now I breeze into ANY gig or session with a small selection of pedals in the back or the amp. That plus a guitar is all I need.

And thanks to the versatile STEREO operation and outputs of this pint-sized beast, I get pro sound in any situation without breaking my back or numbing my hands.

Kudos to FENDER for retaining the STEREO outputs and for reducing weight. I could live without the Bluetooth gimmickry, but it doesn't get in the way.

Besides the lightweight, pedal friendly, budget friendly, versatile design with numerous internal effects?

STEREO STEREO STEREO STEREO STEREO STEREO STEREO!!! Because SCIENCE that's why!

Far exceeded my expectations

First of for now i mainly play at home, i own and use my kemper for most everything. I had an issue with my back and needed something all in one. It had to be light and sound great. I had the marshall code and hated it sounded very hifi and the speaker flubbed out very easily i tried the vox VTX series and it was okay but lacked something, so i took a chance and ordered the new mustang GTX100. Wow the quality and feel are insane i would be so bold to say i can get as good of sound on the GTX as the kemper with tweaking it blew me away and now i play it much more than my kemper and its light and all in one to take to jam sessions and gigs way to go fender knocked it out of the park.

I'm very pleased with this amp and more importantly with the Fender Tone community.

You can literally find any tone that you're looking for in the Fender Tone downloads which makes this amp extremely versatile, especially if you play lots of cover tunes.

It's pretty intuitive and you can get up and running with the amp very quickly.

The Fender Tone app works great. I love being able to preview tones that I find on their website and then download them to the amp. My only criticism is that I wish it had more than 200 presets. It's tough to choose which ones to overwrite to make room for new presets you want to download. However, the app does give you the ability to backup and restore your settings, so you can literally have an unlimited number of presets saved (but only access 200 at a time).

Great Modeling Amp

By Colin from San Antonio on August 3, 2020

I started playing guitar again about a year ago. At the time I picked up the super affordable Fender LT25 amp. It was a great amp but it was limited in all it had to offer. When I saw Fender announce the GTX series I knew I was going to upgrade to this amp as a reward for keeping up with playing guitar. I originally was going to go with the GTX50 but when I realized for just about $... more the GTX100 came with the footswitch (which I knew I wanted) that the GTX100 was the right choice. Ordering / Shipping / Delivery from Sweetwater was top notch as always and everything actually showed up a day early. As for the amp, man what an upgrade. First the design of the GTX just looks like a classic Fender tube amp. Connecting to WIFI and syncing to the app was a breeze. And out of the box the amp sounds great just using the close to 200 presets. In fact I think I spent my first week just diving into all of the presets and then spent the next few weeks adjusting and tweaking the presets that I found to already be great to match my preferences. Editing is really simple using the on amp dials or with the Fender Tone app. And the Fender Tone cloud is home to some really great artist and user generated presets. Finally the 7 button footswitch is fantastic. I honestly believe the footswitch is a must with this amp. Not only can you easily switch between your saved preset. But you can also control your FX loop. And most importantly it unlocks the built in looper which for me has already improved my practice time. I highly recommend this amp and without a doubt I would purchase it again.

Light, Versatile, powerful, and Sounds GREAT!

By Stephen M. Clark from Winter Park Florida on July 12, 2020 Music Background: 40 years as a professional musician singer/songwriter

I needed a lighter amp for my 1971 Fender Stratocaster. My old tube amp is just too heavy to lug around anymore. And I also wanted to get something more modern, and with built in effects, so I don't have to drag around so much gear when I perform. I hated the idea of giving up the warm tube sound which I am so familiar with. So I started off looking at more tube amps, but they were not much lighter than what I already had, and they didn't come with built in effects and such. So I decided to look at several digital amps also. A friend of mine had an older model Mustang amp, and I kind of liked it, but it still wasn't what I wanted. Then I saw that Fender came out with a new and improved Mustang GTX amp. So I tried it out and decided to buy one. My Mustang GTX 100 is great. It's super light. It's extremely versatile, and has not only built in effects, but different amp models, cabinets, and lots more. Plus the bluetooth and wi-fi. And the included foot switch, and Fender Tone app make it so easy to make changes and adjustments, without having to constantly hover over my actual amp. And with the right patches, it makes my Strat sound exactly like I need it to. I'm in love with my Strat again. Thanks to my new Mustang amp. A Fender for a Fender. Makes sense.

I took delivery of my GTX100 about 2-1/2 weeks ago. I think it boasts a ton of useful sounds. I do believe that the boxed presets are not as useful as they might be - but this is NOT a criticism of the amp or its capabilities. There are plenty of useful presets, but in virtually every instance the user needs to tweak the settings. In particular, gain is uniformly set too high, and causes icepick trebles and fizz. Easy to fix. What I have done is to delete anything that I just wouldn't use. Next I downloaded the full manual, which includes descriptions of the various amp models, cabinets, and effects (which can be found online). Then I created patches starting with every clean amp model (plus reverb). I set each amp to sound good with my G&L ASAT and my Les Paul. Next, I duplicated these amps and added a standard pedal layout that I am most likely to use. I created a group of set lists for the bare amps and also for the standard pedal board layout. Coming soon, I'll generate patches for favorite clean sounds, overdrive sounds, and dirty sounds using selected amps and cabinets and then make set lists that are specific to different kinds of music for which these particular patches are best suited. I think that if you go through a similar exercise you will not only learn everything there is to know about these amps, but you will also achieve tones that are most useful for what YOU do.

After a few minutes of using the fender mustang GTX 100 I am extremely surprised at the richness of sound and how light the amplifier is. The overall sound is quality fender.
The tone banks are extremely interesting and a lot of fun to play with. There literally are too many to review in a weeks time! There are many that I know I will be using for general playing and others that will be used as specialties. For fuzz lovers they sure are plenty of options, all shapes and densities are covered. I am a fond user of the twin reverb and super reverb options. Tweaking the two amps sounds was easy and the result, absolutely amazing. True tube tone!
If you're playing live you'll be well satisfied with the studio quality sound and effects that the small, lightweight box delivers. Foot switch is a plus when live.
Don't be overwhelmed by all the options, and there are many. Pick one amp sound at a time and jam!

Best Bang for the Buck - Mustang GTX-100

By Darrell Bradford from Redding, Connecticut on May 25, 2020 Music Background: 50+ years experience, not a professional musician

I should start by saying that I've been playing music for 50 years and I regularly rehearse with a band although we are not gigging yet. I use this amp with my Fender Stratocaster and I've had the amp for about 3 weeks now. I read a lot of reviews and looked at many of the videos comparing modeling amps before I settled on the Fender Mustang GTX-100, and so far I am very happy with this unit.

Initial setup was not complicated if you follow the directions. I had to locate the online Manual and download it, which I did before the amp arrived – Manual is very helpful and I recommend you review it before you start playing with the amp.
With 40 amp models and 200 presets and the ability to download more from the Fender app, you should not have any trouble finding some that will work with your style and preferences. I found it useful to choose 5 or 6 Favorites and group them into a SetList, which allows me to access them quickly using the 7-button pedal included with the amp. The range of available presets is incredible; from a mellow, acoustic sound to the screaming Madison Square Garden Lead and everything in between, I'm like a kid in a candy store. Modern technology is incredible!

You don't need to attach a computer. Using your phone/tablet, you can download other styles created by the user community or modify the presets. For example, the other day I downloaded a setup that emulates the Santana/Smooth sound and it was awesome. I also enjoy playing with backing tracks as I practice my solos. Again, this I very easy to do. I plug my iPhone into the AUX jack and play along with the backing track. If I want to do this on Sunday morning without disturbing my family, I just plug in a set of headphones.

The pedal includes a Looper which is pretty cool. You can record a bass line or a chord progression and then play along with it.

Since the amp weighs only 22 pounds it's light enough to take to rehearsals.

Support from Sweetwater has been excellent. I ordered the amp and it was delivered to my door two days later with free shipping (thank you, Sweetwater). I also appreciate the level of customer service from Sweetwater -- my dedicated sales engineer, Michael Eads, called a few days later to check-in and make sure I was satisfied.

A Top Notch Modeling Amp

By ESSIG from PA on May 12, 2020

If you are looking for a great modeling amp, this one has everything you could hope for and probably more than you'll ever use. It sounds good and is easy to use. Remember this is a MODELING amp and should be viewed as such. If you want an amp that can get you a ton of great tones to mess around with that sound good, this will do that! You want to see what certain amps, pedals, effects, and tones will sound like BEFORE you drop thousands on the setup of your dreams, this will do that. If you want to play small gigs with an easy to use package that can let you play covers and sound good doing it - this is it.

If you are trying to recreate the sound of a high end pedal board with the Marshall stack from your favorite legendary band you heard live - your're not going to sound like that. This is not Fenders top of the line handcrafted tube amps so if that's what you want, that's fine, but then compare that to other tube amps - don't compare it to this or any modeling amp for that matter. Don't be that person!

This thing sounds great, works really well with the app, and can be customized out the wazoo. If you find a prepackaged tone that is close to what you want, you can fine tune it and I'd bet you will get it pretty darn close to what your ears like. There are also tons of user created material you can download from the Fender app as well.

You don't need to attach a computer to do anything. You don't even need a cable from your phone/tablet. It is all wireless and Bluetooth and it was super easy to do the first time set-up. I have yet to have any connection issues and that app is pretty easy to navigate. You can still use the knobs on the unit, but except for the volume/gain/eq type stuff, the app is easier to scroll thru and fine tune with.

This is the modeling amp you are looking for, and Sweetwater is the place to order it!

Fender 100 watt guitar amp.

By Carl L Myers from CT on April 26, 2020 Music Background: 50 years of playing professional guitar.

Brand new to the world, a 100 watt fender amp , 22 lbs that can hold its own against any small guitar amp. I wanted something light instead of my 100 lbs tube amp . This fender Mustang carries its own and some. I use guitar pedals and the amp does not mind at all. First time in years I can carry a full body guitar amp that holds it's own. I am totally impressed

Phenomenal!!

By John Champion from South Texas on April 2, 2024 Music Background: Jazz, fusion, country, pop, Rock, Brazilia, etc.

This is a second review of this amp. On my first review, I had created some presets that sounded really really good. But I have to revise my review from being very very good for the money to just being more than very very good at any price. The presets that I have been able to sculpt are on par with my quad cortex. However, some of them are just out of this world and feel and react more like an amp than my quad cortex with an FRFR cabinet.. going back to not having a Tweeter has been very revealing to me. I have come to realize that I don't need a Tweeter nor do I want one. Even the acoustic presets sound great without a tweeter. I also went to the cloud and found some presets that are world-class sounding in many different genres. I like this thing more than the quad on a lot of things and more than the TONE master pro. I have my favorite leave on boost pedal in the input and my favorite delay pedal in the effects loop. You don't need them, and I use the delays on the amp as well ,but it added an element of refinement that is mind blowing with this tiny little unit. A lot of these modeling amps have no compressors in them and that's a real letdown because compression can be used on many different types of sounds. And like I said, on my previous review, the compressors in this amp are better than the flagship tone Master Pro. I think it's because it's all wired together with the speaker power in one package and it just sounds completely real. A lot of the factory presets sound digital but you can easily get rid of that digital sound by tweaking. Once you have done that, this thing sounds as good as many tube amps that I have played, but is a lot more versatile and a lot more reliable. I wish that they made this amp in a 210 stereo version, but until they do, I am blown away with this single 12. I really don't know how Fender did it but they did, and at a price point of $. I don't think there's anything that stands with it in this price range. This, of course, is my opinion, but I think that it is the most versatile amp out right now. Learn how to program it and don't rely on YouTube because every single video on YouTube that demonstrates it barely scratches the surface of what this amp can do. It is beyond the shadow of a doubt, the most surprising purchase of the year so far. What started off to just be a temporary light set up has ended up being my main rig. Who would've ever thought?

This thing is great!

By Jack Maksym from alpharetta, GA on February 5, 2024

This amp has everything you would ever want in an amp! it has the deep grungy tones for metal, has the twang for blues and country, has awesome tones for any genre under the sun! The one and only problem I had with it is that most of the presets preloaded on the the amp by fender kinda stink, but if you make your own presets or download the fender tone app to try out some community tones to get that sound you want the amp is fantastic!

One of the best amps

By Osvaldo Andres Jimenez Chavira on October 10, 2023

I have tried the Fender mustang amps before and they have this special bright tone that works magnificent on studio or stage!
The digital interface of this latest GTX100 works pretty good, a bit slow to start playing when turned on (about 10 sec), not really a complaint. And of course, the fact to emulate many amps, effects and presets from many people around the world is just something amazing and helpful to try on.

Something that I'm NOT loving is the mobile app (Fender tone), although it's very easy to use and gives you the chance to adjust, create or just change the mode of the amp from your phone, the Bluetooth/WiFi interface has a few issues such as not being connected somehow (you need to restart the amp and try again), and when you try to connect to music stream also there is sometimes where you cannot here any music and again, you'll need to restart the amp and try to connect again. It also takes certain time to connect and to "set up" with the phone to start plating music or using the app for effects/presets.
This only when using the app, if you use the amp the "old way", you shouldn't have any problem.
The footswitch buttons are a little uncomfortable, but good.
The Tuner gets a hardtime to detect the notes and it's not really stable.

In conclusion, this amp worth the price. A few things could be improved, but the main purpose works great so I will recommend it.

Fender Mustang/Sweetwater

Great amp for experimenting

By Donald Coffey from St. Louis, MO on March 1, 2023

I am not a gigging musician but I consider myself to be more than just a bedroom musician too. When I play I like to just noodle around as well as learning new techniques and songs. That may be the most enjoyable part of playing for me. The GTX100 lets me play with the sound in a way that I couldn't before I had it. It's like having a room full of classic amps and a wallrack full of pedals. I know that the GTX doesn't model all of those sounds perfectly but it's plenty close for my ear. It makes me want to play more.

Versatile Amp

By John Sholl from IL on October 19, 2022 Music Background: Playing at home, jamming with friends

I was looking at this amp when Fender had their Labor Day Sale. I have a Fender Mustang LT25, but wanted an upgrade. Sweetwater had a great price and helped me make up my mind on buying this. I like that you can change the tones with an app on my phone vs. via computer with the LT25. There are so many combinations of amp models and effects. It is easy to download tones to the amp with the app as well. I haven't even begun to tweak tones myself and have been able to find many on the app for songs I want to play. It is plenty loud. I rarely turn the volume much past 3 o'clock while just playing at home, but wanted the a bigger amp for when I am playing with buddies to be heard along with drums. The included footswitch is nice. The looper has taking me a little to get used to as far as timing, but I have never used a looper before. You can use the footswitch to change between tones, and you can use it to turn effects on and off. Overall, I am very happy with this amp.

Huge upgrade from a Line 6 Spider

By Skyler from NM on July 14, 2022

Despite the smaller size, I'm much happier playing on this amp. It can get loud, chunky, and is plenty for any sort of jam. The phone connectivity is incredible and the customization paired with the great foot pedal makes my old setup obsolete.

My one gripe is that the optional expression pedal isn't supported by Fender anymore and I can't figure out how to work the unsupported software with it, so that's beyond frustrating. As it is now, it can only function as a volume pedal. HUGE disappointment since I've somehow never had a wah pedal and was looking forward to it.

Sounds and works great

New modeling amp technology

By Jack Burks from Clio, MI on May 2, 2021 Music Background: Professional, several instruments.

I love the weight of the amp! I also love all of the options already set in and, for me, the ability to almost instinctively adjust the sounds. I am currently playing about once every 3 weeks at our church. Right now I leaved my pedal board at home and dial in a sound for each song. There was one time I turned the amp on and no sound came out; I just turned of, waited a few seconds and turned it back on and it worked. I have owned other modeling amps and a Roland GA-212, which I still love because when you change the settings they are exactly where you left them when you come back. Fender seems to have captured this technology. Number 15 is an acoustic simulator that seems as good as the pedal I have and is already in the amp. Also, we just run a plug to the sound board and I am in with my own monitor that I can set the volume as fits the setting. I would definitely buy this again. My rep Greg Savino has never let me down as I was coming back into playing after my career as a photographer changed.

Great amp!

By Jimmy from Cali on August 4, 2020

Great Amp! Just got this a few days ago and it hasn't let me down. Gotta love the light weight, carrying a tube would have killed me. I was reluctant about getting non-tube amp since I had one the early Marshall Solid state amps and that thing was a big let down so I stuck to tubes from then on. This thing has been Great! I especially love all the features and the fact that so many effects are built in so a quick practice doesn't mean having to wire the city. The new look is definitely an improvement of the last model as well. The app is a lil basic seems like it can be improved upon but that can always be fixed down the road with an update. Definitely recommend this amp and if you're going to get it get the the 100 the pedal is a must!

Blues Junior and Then Some

By Dave Newton from West Paducah, KY on June 25, 2020 Music Background: Been around few blocks in 40+ years of playing

I have had the Fender Blues Junior on my wish list for a long time now after playing thru one at a random jam - my guitar was singing that night. The $670+ price tag always brought me up short. When I saw it was one of the models on this amp, and after watching Fender's demo video, and it having stereo line outs along with a speaker, along with bluetooth jam mode and 199 other amp models for $499 I thought...sounds pretty good lol.

I must say that when i pulled it out of the box I was a bit taken aback at the diminutive size of the cab. Well, any reservations were quickly quashed once I started running thru the models. On a relatively clean setting it was plenty loud at 9-10 o'clock on the master, but I decided to see what happened when I turned it up all the way. I was sitting right in front of it in my 10' x 13' office studio and it just got effing loud, but clean as could be. No break up, the speaker delivered completely, no out of control feedback, no feeling the amp was struggling to deliver the power. It made me feel like the engineers perfectly balance the design.

I've used several modeling components and SW - PodPro, Eleven Rack, S-Gear, Overloud, IKM, Guitar Rig and this thing beats them all on the tube response realism. The EQ is super responsive. The effects are just unbeatable, as is the response to the guitar volume knob setting. Funnily enough, or maybe no surprise, the Blues Junior model (#168 from the factory) is where I have landed as a go to. I can get that Michael Schenker tone with an Fulltone OCD in front. I ran thru all the models the first night - so many well named, fun and useful presets. Rock on.

P.S. My hesitation on a full 5 star rating is the rotary encoder is a bit sluggish when "spinning knobs" and there was a green + sign post amp as if another effect could be added, but I couldn't get it to add one and there was no prompt as to why. A couple of software issues that, in the latter case, can surely be resolved.

Great little Amp Fender Mustang GTX100

By Michael J. Brown from Boise, ID on April 28, 2020 Music Background: Singer/Songwriter Nashville recording artist

I have not had any issues with this amp. I couldn't give it 5 stars yet, just because I have not played with it in a full band setup yet due to our current isolation issues. With 200 presets you will not have any issues finding some that will work with your style and preferences. But the great thing about it is you can customize all of the settings and dial them in to be just the sound you want. I recommend purchasing the GTX100 versus the 50 due to getting the foot switch, which in my opinion is necessary to use this amp effectively in a live performance. You can control it from your phone without it, but all the features that come with it out-way not having it.
I use this amp with both my Stratocaster and my Taylor acoustic. It works great for both. I love the IOS app you can use with it to customize any effects and choices you have from your phone or mobile device.
Setup was not complicated if you follow the directions. It would be nice if there were more instructions on all of the other menu options. I could not find a manual for these, however with a little prodding around I was able to do what I needed to do. For more info you can see the video I added.
Be sure to purchase this from a dealer you trust like Sweetwater, as with any newly released product there can be bugs that will need assistance. I definitely give this amp a thumbs up.

Wow!

I got mine two weeks ago, and I love it! I'm still in the market for a Fender twin reverb, but this one is giving me what I need until that happens! I like the ease of finding an amp model, saving and storing my favorite sounds. I also like having the outputs to run thru the PA if I want. I'll keep this one no matter what I get in the future. I don't know how long this particular amp has been around, but I'm sure glad I discovered it!

I think this is my last amplifier

By Philip Wright from Carmichael, CA on November 10, 2023

I've used a lot of amps. Peaveys, Blackstars, Marshalls, Egnaters, etc. But this is basically every amp I've ever wanted in one convenient place. And it works perfectly with my Headrush pedal board; I just plug the Headrush directly into the FX return, and the amplifier becomes a loudspeaker. The XLR out sends my Headrush signal directly to the PA without screwing with the level, since the master volume knob on the amplifier only affects the speaker output and not the thru output. Even if I turn the volume all the way down, the signal still goes through to FOH unaffected.

The models on the Fender amp are so good, I had to revisit all my Headrush patches and improve them to keep up. So my Headrush is my main rig, the Fender amp is my stage volume (and it looks better than an empty stage), and if my Headrush ever dies at a show, the Fender is my backup.

People complain that the amp won't accept long wi-fi passwords, but I first connected the amp with my phone via bluetooth and entered the wi-fi password thru the app. No problems at all. The app UI to program the signal chains and effects on the amplifier is OK. It works well enough, but it's pretty easy to accidentally overwrite the built-in programs when you hit the save button. Not a deal breaker for me, and restoring all programs to defaults was easy without having to do a full factory restore and reconfiguring the wi-fi password again.

It's very lightweight too. My bad back is the main reason I got away from combo amps, but this thing is easy to carry.

The perfect practice amp!

By Justin Allen from Franklinton, NC on November 22, 2022

I bought this amp back in March of 22. I needed something for small gigs and home recording. Something I could get decent tones out of without having to pull out my pedalboard. This thing delivers all that and more! The onboard looper is a game changer for practice and having a headphone option is nice for night time practice. The only reason I'm deducting a star is that the models that aren't fender on this amp don't sound great. Most of them are too thin and quiet. The Twin Reverb, Princeton, deluxe, all those are great, maybe not spot on, but they sound good. The "plexi" setting is too quiet, same with the Vox. For high gain, the Friedman model isn't half bad, same for the bassbreaker. All in all I'd say this amp excels at the Fender tones, if you want high gain go for the katana or catalyst. For me person it's a great purchase. I've had a lot of fun with this amp.

Fast, easy and amazing...

By Jeff from NC on September 27, 2022 Music Background: Amateur Guitar

Had this for a few weeks. There are tons of cool tone settings. Adjusting and making new ones is super easy. App is amazing. Bought this because I am connecting with an old friend online. We easily share settings and downloads. Have a daughter that is learning with Fenderplay. They provide tone settings for many of their lessons\songs. Took about 2 seconds to download and start playing.
Only complaint is that it could use the "Low power modes," available in some of the competition. Though it sounds good at low volume.
I would buy it again.

Great amp, USB :(

By Sweetwater Customer on April 25, 2022

I am finally getting around to investigating how to fully use this amp. No wifi connection problems, Fender Tone on my iphone using bluetooth works fine, getting around all the menus takes a little to get used to, sound is great through speaker or earphones. Updating is actually easy through wifi. Where it fails is if you want to connect it using USB to a macbook (with the latest Monterey Ios) and use Fender Tone. Tried everything and still no connection- doesn't even appear in Settings:About This Mac: System Report.

Pros and Cons

By Brian from ME on February 26, 2022 Music Background: Gigging musician

Fist off: This amp sounds SWEET! It emulates like crazy and sounds good doing it. The app is a little glitchy (aren't they all, though?) but not so bad that it's detrimental to using it. The ability to sculpt a tone, layout the order of pedals, etc. is super cool. But...

The footswitch. It's cool and all, and if you're in your kitchen or apartment or whatever, it's totally fine. But playing live? It's far to hard to micro-adjust and if you've played out enough you know what I'm talking about. And when I plugged a volume pedal (Guitar-volume-amp with the footswitch independent as it has to be) it didn't act like a volume pedal, it reduced the guitar input into the amp, thus lowering the gain on the tones in the foot pedal. In other words, once I have my tone going into an amp, I want my volume pedal to reduce decibel levels, not guitar output (it's like lowering the volume pot on your guitar when going through an overdrive pedal). But...

If you're recording this amp would be insanely versatile. You could create almost any tone you wanted which is fantastic when you're putting tracks together. So, overall, incredible sounding amp, could be used live, but be cautious, and it is way better than a lower budget amplifier. Hope that helps

Love this amp.

By Sweetwater Customer on July 8, 2021 Music Background: Advanced

Absolutely love this amp. Many effects and amp models to tweak and make my own. Foot switch east to use and is needed to get full use of amps capabilities. I can edit tones from my phone using the fender tone app which is very user friendly

Con: The internal memory is only capable of using so many effects to make your own preset. Talked to fender and they told me this. I will have to delete pre-made presets to free up memory so I can use whatever effect is maxed out in the internal memory Not sure why this is an issue as I'd think that Fender would have taken this into account during development. Just my thoughts.

Nice amp

Solid modeling and tone in a lightweight package

By Jerry from Kansas on August 27, 2020 Music Background: Playing semi-pro for the last 48 years and still going strong...

First, a bit of background - I play in multiple bands with multiple rigs, but with my rock outfit, which plays stuff from the 70's all the way to today, I had a fairly complex rig based on a large pedalboard and a Friedman Runt 20, all set up to run silent stage. I had been struggling to get the tones I needed at a manageable gain level for FOH and monitors, so I started really investigating digital modeling for about a year. I looked at the Helix, the Kemper, and Fractal but I just wasn't ready to spend that kind of dough for a long term commitment I wasn't sure I wanted to make. Enter the Fender Mustang GTX100...
Since I wasn't able to go to a local place and plug in, I spent a LOT of YouTube time and reading through the boards. While not everything was a thumbs up, there were demo guys online who I follow and trust that were stunned at the features and tone of the Mustang, so I took the plunge. Gotta say that I don't regret it at all. My goal - great tone, lots of flexibility, minimal setup.
Tones - The Fender amps models are stunningly good with very little tweaking needed. EL34 based amp tones (that's Marshall/Soldano territory) are more than acceptable but need a fair bit of manipulation to take out ear-spiking highs or flabby lows - HINT: try the different cab sims. BIG differences. The pedal sims are, by and large, really good once you take some time to adjust them.
Signal Chain - Given the cost of this amp, the signal chain is super flexible unless you are doing extreme shoegazer stuff with tons of time-based effects (those eat processor like you wouldn't believe). I've got a couple of patches that have 6-7 pedals, so the only hard limit is how much processor the signal chain eats and the software does a really good job of stopping you from doing impossible patching. Cab sims are generally acceptable, although not brilliant. I avoid the 4x12 sims, but that is personal taste, not the sim itself.
Switching/Setlists - This is one area where I think all modelers fall down a bit. On stage, I don't have the time or inclination to spend screen time. The Mustang's app for iPad makes this a bit easier, but my advice is that you WILL want to have your iPad onstage to switch between patches and use the foot controller in pedalboard mode. Not horrible, just not necessarily optimal.

Final thoughts - Did I meet my goals? Yes, I did. I've retired my Friedman and pedalboard for live shows. The Mustang has more than enough range of tone and flexibility to do the job for silent stage with tight control for FOH and monitors. Would I choose the Mustang over my pedalboard/amp if I didn't have to do silent stage? Perhaps not, but the Mustang can hold its own based on tone and flexibility, believe me.
A couple of minor niggles - The cross connect cables for the footpedal/expression pedal are cheap pieces of junk. Pitch them and put good cables on there. Occasionally, the amp/footpedal combo will 'reboot' (for lack of a more descriptive phrase) and throw you into momentary chaos. It's happened a couple of times to me, but hasn't caused a major problem, so I'm willing to deal for the time being.

Recommendation - if you are looking to get into the digital modeling world and don't have the scratch for a high end unit or the time/desire to deal with the complex programming on some of those units, the Mustang is a fantastic choice, for everyone from beginners to professional weekend warriors. Take the plunge!

Great gateway to amp and effects modeling

By Maurice Evans from NJ on April 26, 2020 Music Background: Working musician

Before when not in quarantine I play at least 8 gigs a month. Since November I've been using the singers Fender Gt 100 and got used to the functionality.

Then fender released this amp clearly looking to up their game in looks and function at a good price point. I was looking to go the modeling floor unit and full range cab. The GTX 100 is a great option for a weekend warrior. Maybe not the total functionality of a kemper but the amp models and effects are worth more than the amp costs.

The included 7 button foot switch is sturdier than its predecessor with much better layout and customization. Clearly Fender redesigned it for working folks.

I don't know if I'm making it clear I like the amp LOL. The cost, weight and value are worth your consideration. Is it a boutique tube amp, no. Fender makes no claim to it anyway. But they clearly set out to make a cost effective product and hit it out of the park

Only tiny issue is the latest Fender Tone update is playing a little funny. But I expect Fender will rectify it soon enough.

3.5 because of the app

By Sean Flynn from BEND, OR on March 15, 2024

I really want to love this amp. It has so many options to capture literally any tone you can imagine. It does tube amps proud and is true to their sound. Indeed, it's remarkable how this digital amp sounds as good as any '65 Princeton Reverb, but it does. The problem is with the app. It fails every time I use it. I've done all the updates and reached out to Fender and their solution worked for about a day then it started failing again. It's a drag because the app has so much potential, but it just doesn't work. I would still recommend this amp I would just tell them to not bother with the app. And as always Sweetwater came through with prompt shipping and a nice follow up from Josh Hart.

A Modern Solid State Amp

By Steve from New York on September 30, 2022 Music Background: Professional level guitar player familiar with most styles.

This quality amp is only 22 lbs, which is the main reason I purchased it. It has like 200 presets and so many features it's hard to count them all. It' complicated. I would need to pick the most useable presets, line them up into groups for the included foot pedal. In other words, it's a lot of work. And who needs so many presets? It's overkill. I think a big flaw is that I cannot plug an extension speaker bottom into the amp directly. They used to make a 2-12 version of this, for what this 1-12 sells for and I played through one. I found it a better sounding amp and the ability to add another 12 inch speaker would have been smart. As far as the sound, I play mostly Jazz and actually like solid state amps for that purpose. I have not as yet, found a setting that sounds as satisfying as my old solid state 2-12 fender, but that weighed like 40 pounds more. For rock and pop, it seems more suited, but again, my Fender Pro Reverb or my old Music Man tube amps sound better and is easier to use albeit with pedals. Like I said, it's going to take work to get this thing to sound the way I want it to. I think it will be worth the effort, though. Tired of lugging heavy amps around. It has a good guarantee. Sweetwater gave me a great deal on it. No option for wheels, but at 22 lbs you dont really need them.

An endless palette

By Jeremy from Las Vegas on July 8, 2022 Music Background: …at least I’m trying

This amp is really nice. It's got an endless variety of tones and capabilities. It provides beginners a great path toward learning how to create tones with various effects. The hardware is lightweight, solid, sounds pretty good, and gets pretty loud. The pedal is awesome — nice that it's included. You can run the amp pretty completely without using the app, but driving from the iPad interface is maybe a bit easier to keep straight.

On the downside, it's really fiddly…there are so many presets and options, it's easy to get lost just messing around with all the possibilities. It's not as tactile in operation as traditional amps and effects, so it always feels a little distant to me. The features are great, but sometimes you just want to grab a knob or switch a pedal. Speaking of knobs, I'm not a fan of the top-back location. It's hard to find a place to put the amp where the controls are easily accessible.

Ultimately, I'm happy I have the amp. Good price. Deep well of tones and features. Decent sound. Super light weight. It is distracting with all the fiddling you can do with the controls, effects, and amp models though. Some folks may be into that, but I need to practice more than I need to experiment with the endless combinations this amp provides.

An Amp for the (New) Ages

By Christopher Kennedy from Columbia, SC on October 28, 2020 Music Background: 26 Years of Guitar and Bass

Amplifier and effects modeling technologies have evolved quite a bit over the last decade or so; in particular, I speak of Fender's ventures into this foray. With that said, I must admit the Mustang GTX 100 is an impressive piece of equipment. It satisfactorily models 40 different amps. From Fender Tweed and Blackface to the heads and cabinets used by the guitar gods and everything in between, they're all in the Mustang GTX 100. There's a myriad of effects models, as well. The TS9, the fuzz made famous by Hendrix, even a clone of the mythical centaur! Phasers, reverbs, delays and, yes, the vibe is modeled as well. The Fender Tone mobile app allows you to edit and create presets intuitively, using digital models of the actual controls found on the modelled amps and effects in use. The user interface on the amp itself affords you the same preset editing and creation capabilities, albeit without the high-resolution graphics available on mobile devices. The whole amplifier from hardware to software is well engineered. I love being able to switch "amps" from across the room using my phone! But, the Mustang GTX 100 is not without its' faults...I noticed the touch sensitivity of played notes on some of the amp and effects models would diminish with reduced input volume from my guitar. My Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV doesn't suffer this fault. So, being a jack of all trades, the Mustang GTX 100 is pretty impressive...but it won't replace my tube amp. It is, however, a welcome addition to my family of gear. Recommended.

Not Bad

By Mike from Boise on September 9, 2022

I've had it two years and play it daily. I use it for silent practice (headphones) and use the bluetooth to practice backing tracks. If you want to get better, you gotta have some way to play silently. The footswitch is very good for looping. On a scale of 1-10, the sound quality is a 6 or 7 as it gets flubby but it's fine for what it is. You don't need all those sounds that it comes with and I only use a few. It doesn't take pedals particularly well but the modeling pedals in the amp are very useable. It's kinda cheap. The bluetooth can drop out and it needs to be turned off and on again occasionally and the power switch broke 10 days after the warranty expired so I'm waiting for the part now. It's fine for practicing and if you upgrade to another amp, you can still use the bluetooth function to play backing tracks as you jam with the other amp. Many hours of fun and practice with this amp and you get a lot of features at a very reasonable cost.

Models, models everywhere, but nothing fits

By BossRoss from Nashville, TN on September 6, 2022 Music Background: jazz

Owned the GTX 100 about a year now and I also have a mustang micro. The micro I use to practice every day—pretty much impossible to get a bad tone in your headphones. The bluetooth feature allows me to solo against YouTube backing tracks and it's effortless. I was hoping the GTX model would be as cool as its little brother the Micro. Nope!

The GTX 100 I turn on about once a month, then remember why I haven't bothered with it in a while and push it into the corner again. As advertised it is possible to adjust each model sound and add or subtract effects to the signal chain either with the amp or using a phone app. But all too often I found myself spending most all my practice session tweaking knobs in vain. I emailed Fender and gave them the specific sound on the Micro that I was trying to get, and they replied politely, Good Luck!

Recently I got a chance to borrow a Fender Blues Junior IV tube combo amp and really wish that I owned this one instead. Great basic tone, slap a pedal board down in front of it and it's like getting a free pass to travel round the world. Yeah there are over 150 GTX modeling sounds to choose from and maybe you'll find a whole bunch you really want to use everyday, I haven't. My advice would be to try this amp in person before purchasing so you can decide if it's an electronic miracle or a disappointing adaptation of an essentially quality made product.

Unwanted noise

By Sweetwater Customer on July 13, 2021

I've have this amp for about 2 months and have been frustrated with it since. Many effects have background noise that is louder than my guitar (using humbuckers). Also there is a constant buzzing that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what room I move the amp. The buzz and noise increase with the tone and volume knob.

So far not impressed

Right now I should be smiling and jamming with my new amp, but instead I am so frustrated by it I want to go all Pete Townshend and smash my guitar on it, but I think that would void the warranty. It is a pain to connect, the amp had a limited number of characters for the wifi password so if your password is too long you can't connect. I changed my password and it still wouldn't connect, so I had to use my phone as a hotspot. The app keeps saying that the firmware needs to be updated and disconnects from the amp. The amp keeps saying there are no updates available. I wanted a modeling amp and was tossed up between this and the Boss Katana. Right now I am thinking I should have gone with the Boss Katana or maybe even a Spark which is half the price, and has great youtube reviews.

poor quality all around

By Sweetwater Customer from East on November 24, 2023

Cheaply made (Made in China).
A lot of useless presets, sounds very artificial.
Buy a Boss Katana, or a Vox Valvtronix.

Don't trust Fender with any product that includes software

By Robert Schroder from Erie, CO on August 3, 2023

This amp is ok, but just like they did with Fender Fuse, Fender will suddenly stop supporting the apps for this amp and actually push an update that disables the app. Horrible business practice. I will again never buy a Fender amp that includes any app.
