Favorite guitar
Everything about this guitar is great. The action is perfect and neck is smooth. It took over as my favorite guitar
Great guitar for a budget build!
I purchased this guitar with the intention of making a Skystang I (Kurt Cobain Fender Mustang) replica. The guitar is "not so great" without any upgrades, the fretboard is small compared to a strat neck, but it's all about getting used to it. The neck pick up is good, but the bridge definitely needs a replacement.
After a year of ownership, I finished my project and the guitar sounds and feels amazing, I changed all the electronics, the switches, locked the tremolo for more stability, changed the bridge for a Gotoh TOM style one, and polished the frets. If you're looking for a good guitar for a project build, this is the right one for it!
Here are some pictures from when I got it, to when I finished the build!
This guitar is GREAT!!!
I wanted a guitar that was gonna be reliable but didn't have a $2000.00 price tag. Yes, I'm a Nirvana fan so this just made sense. It's just like the Mustangs from the 60's era with the phase switches and all that. Its got a bone nut which is usually either on higher end guitars or an aftermarket upgrade mosts shops will charge you $. I will say that the stock electronics are utter CRAP! And the pickups aren't very good either. But thats to be expected in a guitar in this price range. I ordered a Mustang wiring kit from Toneshapers.com and a Seymour Duncan hot rail from Musiciansfriend.com and now its a totally different breed! Oh AND I replaced the stock no name dynamic vibrato with a Fender dynamic vibrato tail piece that converts it to a hardtail. So yes, I DID put more money into it. But Fender doesn't sell EXACTLY what I want so I did it myself. I advise you to do the same and you'll have a guitar so good you'll buy a second one which I'll be doing in a few weeks!!!
Amazing Guitar!
This Squier Classic Vibe Mustang plays better than a lot of the Fender player Mustangs that I've played. It's a great budget guitar if your looking for good Grunge tones at a low price like I was. It has a thin neck so you can move lighting fast around it and it has an Indian Laurel fingerboard which is just a cheaper version of Rosewood, so you get the great Rosewood tones heard from Kurt Cobain guitars for example.
Nice Axe
I bought this as a birthday present for myself. I don't often buy new guitars. The last new guitar I bought was over 20 years ago.
This is my first Squier and it's very good... everything it tight and true, good action, responsive controls and pickups, correct intonation. What more could you want, right?
I'm quite happy with the short scale length and really good sounding pickups. Having had a telecaster for over 30 years, I would rarely use both pickups together but with the Mustang that's its sweet spot, at least to my ears.
Shipping was weird, but that was FedEx's problem, not Sweetwater's.
Christmas Gift
My wife bought me this for Christmas and I am very surprised how well this is made. I own a collection of guitars and after a few adjustments this Mustang plays as well as my American Fender Strats and Teles. If anyone is looking for information on setup, Youtube videos are very helpful. The vibrato is smooth as silk and when the pickups are used together in phase they act as noise cancelling. A good purchase and always happy with Sweetwater. My only complaint is that you people at Sweetwater make it too easy! Thanks!
Great guitar
I love this guitar. All of the Squier Classic Vibe guitars are pretty nice for more affordable models. As someone else noted, this guitar is much lighter than pictured on Sweetwater's website. Of course the color you see will *always* vary from screen to screen, but it doesn't even look like the same colorway. Sweetwater seems to have edited its photos in a way that makes the Sonic Blue look darker, much more saturated/less pastel than it actually is, and far less green than it actually is. The actual color is a barely-there blue green color, so light that in some dimmer lighting my friends thought it was white once. But if you ask me, even though displays vary and we all see the pics slightly differently, I can almost guarantee you that this guitar looks cooler than it does in these pics since they're edited pretty intensely. Buy this, if you're looking for a basic solid electric guitar it'll do you well!
My dream guitar.
It feels like it was made for me. You must get this guitar
Small guitar, big horsepower
First impression out of the package, the color is much lighter than expected. It's a sonic blue with a surf pearl undertone, not a complaint its unique. The neck finish is really nice, just needs some conditioning on the fretboard. The pickups are great, from clean to distorted they handle it all. The pickup switches are good if you like the option of in/out phase sounds. The switches aren't as easy as a toggle switch, they take a little effort to move. Cant say much about the tremolo, I dont really use it. I really like the familiar strat feel of this guitar with the offset body, no cutaway for your belly or forearm. This is my only 24" scale guitar, and the one I play the most. I have big hands and i find it easier to play for longer and stretch into new territory. it's well balanced and fun to play, would definitely recommend!
Top of the line guitar, not necessarily for beginners!
My first Mustang. Not my first guitar. Not my first Squier. I really feel the quality of the Squiers are beyond "beginner level" since we see that label not only on Squiers but on the Mustang style. Not the case at all. The prep from Sweetwater is not to be overlooked either, right out of the box it was ready to go. At some point you may need to do a full-fledged set up to address the frets if need be but overall, I am extremely pleased with everything from the value to the look to the feel, to the sound. The trem on the Mustang is pretty cool and takes some getting used to but it's fun to play with. Thanks Sweetwater!
ride cowboy ride
this review is not of these models i am telling you about CBS/Fenders 2 Mustangs great guitars/vibrato is as good as a Jazzmasster/or Jag little bit different design
Fun guitar with surprisingly good fit and finish
I got a used Bullet Mustang a few months ago and I like it so much I was wanting a more traditional Mustang with single coils.
The CV 60s has excellent fit & finish. The frets are fine (the fretwork is a little unrefined, but that's to be expected), no sharp fret ends, a well-cut bone nut, the laurel fingerboard looks great (a little dry, needed some lemon oil) and I only needed to make a small truss rod adjustment. The intonation is pretty close to perfect out of the box - no kidding. The trem is funky, but I like it. It's closer to a Jazzmaster trem than a strat. I bent the bar so that it would be closer to the strings. The tuners are vintage style (which some don't like) but they actually work great and don't need to be replaced.
It plays great and sounds great. These are pretty low output single coils, which is what I was expecting. The neck pickup at full strength (in phase?) is my favorite. The pickups sound good together; the bridge pickup is a little weak, but it doesn't sound bad, and I don't find it to be harsh or spikey. I'm not a huge fan of the out-of-phase sounds, but they could be useable in some situations.
Cons: the frets could use a polish, but I don't really see that as a "con", but it's worth mentioning. The neck pocket isn't perfect on the treble side, but the guitar resonates fairly well and has good sustain.
And that's really about it. I'm going to keep it stock, nothing really needs to be replaced, which is a pleasant surprise. This is really a fun guitar - I like all of Fender's designs and the Mustang really has a unique voice that I enjoy.
Much better than I was expecting, honestly
My daughter wanted to replace her pre-teen-years sparkly Daisy Rock with something more serious. This number certainly fit the bill. Gotta say the overall quality of this instrument is outstanding, given its price point, and Fender's Indonesian plants obviously stress an elevated level of finish. I was anticipating having to upgrade the tuners and fiddle with the historically rattle-y Mustang bridge, but no - standard hardware is just dandy, and the pickups are surprisingly robust, sweet and clear. Sales tech Yuval Fuchs guided the process superbly, got it to us in record time. Thanks, Sweetwater folks!
