I connected with this immediately over my Fender

By Collin from Tulsa on December 5, 2023 Music Background: Experienced/Semi-Professional Musician

I really wanted a Fender Mustang Bass. My budget was lower than a JMJ model and I really didn't want the Mexican-made PJ model. After some research it seemed like this was a pretty viable option if I gave it some love and did some mods to it.

Upon looking it over, tuning it up and playing it, I realized that it just felt right. I connected with it really quickly the same way I did with my #1 guitar. I have been using a Fender Player Series P-Bass for a while now and I always felt like I was fighting it to get what I wanted out of it and to get it to play the way I felt like it should play. This Squire not only was ready to play from Sweetwater, it is set up near-perfect for me already. It plays exactly as desired, and the craftsmanship is really stellar. The electronics are okay, but I bought this with the intention of putting some higher quality stuff in. I did go ahead a put a mint pick guard on which is more my taste.

Really great job, Squire! This is a lovely instrument that will be making music for many years to come!

One of the Best Short-Scale Basses for the Money

By Sweetwater Customer on October 10, 2023

The vintage features of this bass are really amazing, and it sounds great too. I'm a big fan of the tanned gloss neck, and getting a bass for under $ with a string-through body, which really improves the sustain on this instrument. I also have the sea foam green version of this bass, and both are consistent in terms of sound and workmanship. The setup was good out of the box, but I had to adjust the intonation after putting a set of flat-wound strings on the bass. I prefer flat-wound strings, and I think they sound better on this bass. The only vintage feature this bass lacks that I would have liked is the lollipop tuners, which Fender has reserved for a higher-priced mustang that is more than twice the price of the Squier. The Classic Vibe line of Squier basses is excellent, and this one is the only one in the line I've seen with the string through body. Sweetwater worked with me to insure that I got the specific weight I was looking for, which for me made a big difference.

Squier Mustang Bass

I've purchased several Indonesan made Squier instuments and have been very impressed with the overall quality of all of them. Past purchases have included 3 Bass VI's and an Esquire. This Mustang bass did not disappoint. The sound of this bass is very punchy. Cosmetically perfect, no flaws at all.Thank you Fender for such great affordable instruments. Once again Leo Fender designs live on proving what a genius he was.

I'm impressed!

First, I'm a guitar player who needs to play bass occasionally (either home recording or subbing at church). This is a FUN bass with a level of quality that really surprised me. Neck, finish, frets... all excellent. Came setup from Sweetwater ready to play. Intonation was spot-on. My ONLY complaint is the fact that the pickguard on mine was cut in such a way that the repeated pattern of this cheap tortoise design is clearly visible (the dark spots on either side in pictures I've added). The red sticker was blocking one spot in the Gallery photos... so couldn't quite see that when I purchased. But, again, at this price point I expect cheaper materials. Otherwise, I'd recommend this bass to anyone.

Best value for your money.

This bass is frankly incredible for the money. The fit and finish rival my Mexican precision and Stratocaster, but the fretwork on the CV Mustang is hands down better than either of my Player Fenders. So smooth. I pulled the roundwounds off, put some flatwounds on it, and it's an absolutely fantastic sounding guitar. It came pretty well setup from Sweetwater. Intonation was very close. As always, Sweetwater's customer service is unrivaled. I've always heard good things about these CV guitars, and now I see why.

Squier 60s mustang bass

By Sweetwater Customer on December 11, 2021

First I didn't expect much for under $ but boy was I surprised. This bass seems to be very well made and it has a excellent sound to it. Along with a 100w fender rumble and short scale makes playing it really fun. The finish and style really makes it look like the old fenders but with a short scale. I play guitar and haven't played a bass for a long time but this short scale makes it a lot easier to play because you don't have to stretch your fingers so much between frets. It is so cool I can't put it down. If this is your first this is a great buy .also it actually came set up pretty good Mabe a few small tweaks and boom.

Very Nice Bass Guitar

By Graham from Maryland on March 1, 2021

The Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang Bass is a very good instrument. I am perfectly happy with it in every way. The construction, precise fit, function, and finish are all top notch. It sounds great. It is a smaller scale bass guitar with a smaller body and hence lighter at about eight pounds. So, it's very suitable for younger players and those of smaller stature. Also, it's a joy to play for this full-grown man too, who just enjoys playing a bass guitar less encumbered. I recommend it to everyone.

Can’t say anything bad about if

Back to Where I Began

By Kevin from Beaufort, SC on June 16, 2020 Music Background: On and off again bass player for over 45 years.

My first bass was an early 70's Olympic White Fender Mustang, purchased new in 1974. Played that bass all through high school and college. Then life caught up, sold the bass and did not pick up an instrument for almost 20 years. Then I started playing again, eventually collecting Fender American J and P bases and Fender American Tele and Strats, all excellent quality instruments. I eventually gave up the bass again and concentrate on the guitars. Stuck at home during this pandemic I had the itch to play bass again. This time I decided to go back to my roots and started looking at Mustangs. Looked at vintage, reissues, new American, when this Squire Mustang Bass in Olympic White on Sweetwater's website just said "buy me". I read enough and visited enough guitar shops over the last several years to know that the Squire Classic Vibe instruments have really raised the bar for the quality of more affordable instruments. I have had this Squire Mustang Bass for a little over a week and I play it every day. It is very reminiscent of my first early 70's Mustang Bass, minus the lollipop tuners and the string mutes. The build, look, short scale playability (for aging hands), all excellent. No sharp fret ends, fret buzz or louder than normal 60 cycle hum. The Indian Laurel fret board is just fine. I have pieces of rosewood laying around for wood work projects and it is hard to tell the difference. A big plus that Sweetwater takes pictures and you can choose from the inventory. They had 3 and I choose by fret board appearance, all other things being equal. I would put the quality right up there with MIM Fenders. I was planning on putting the Duncan custom Mustang bass pickups in this Squire, but surprisingly, the stock pickups are really good. I had to make very small adjustments to neck and nut to get it to my setup preferences, but that is true of even much more expensive instruments I have had in the past. I would recommend this to any beginner, intermediate or long time player...and don't sell it! I cringe when I see the prices of vintage Mustang Basses. A note on Sweetwater....This is the first instrument I have purchased from Sweetwater. Service was excellent, product was as advertised, arrived earlier than promised in perfect condition! Even the strings looked brand new. Will use Sweetwater for all future purchases, starting with some flat wounds to really get back.

Show Stopper

I own quite a few Mustang Basses.. With some work out of the box..The Squier Mustang can hang with any USA or Japan made Mustang.. The set-up was a disaster out of the box... thruss rod needed adjustment.. Bass had a horrible clanking noise..on the "A" string.. Had to buy a hipshot string tree..to correct the issue.. I put La bella low tension flats on the bass.. After some work.. the Squier Mustang is a beast..

Nice Bass! Mustang Short scale bass in Olympic White

By Sweetwater Customer from Upper Midwest on March 22, 2021

I really love this thing, I am getting back into playing again after several years of not playing at all. My hands are small anyway but the older I get my hands and fingers are getting stiff, so I thought I would try a short scale bass to see if that would ease getting back into it. It really is fun and easier to play, love the looks of it. I have to admit, that I was skeptical of buying a guitar online, and I was equally skeptical of buying a Squire vs a Fender. I already own an American Fender Jazz bass and honestly the fit and finish on this Squire Mustang Bass is just as good as the USA Fender. I really believe that there was a period of time that Squire was really turning out some sketchy guitars but I they have really stepped up their game with this one! And buying online was so easy and such a great experience from Sweetwater Sound, I am sold on this place. Everything from the order to the delivery in two days, and of course the great Customer service and concerns from Kris Eckman my sales engineer. This is a top notch company in my book!! Great job Sweetwater and Squire!

Great little Mustang

By taosword from NC on February 26, 2020 Music Background: Rock Blues bass player/singer.

Bought a white Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang bass from Sweetwater a few weeks ago. It came set up very well. I had my guitar tech set it up with new D'addario nickle round wounds since that is what my fingers are use to. The pickups needed to be raised a bit to get the the D string in balance soundwise with the other strings. The screw hole was stripped so he put in a new larger screw. Also as is typical of Fenders, there was a hum when not touching the strings, and it picked up my humidifier motor. No biggie. Had him shield all cavities with copper tape. Now it is more quiet than my Fender Jazz with D'Marrzio noiseless pickups with a John East preamp. It is fast and has a very good neck on it. Time will tell if it is too green but so far so good. I found the pickups to be typical old school Mustang and not very powerful. No problem. I use an MXR preamp pedal for it, and throw my 250 watt Fender 12 inch Rumble Eminence with a tweeter on top of my RevSound 400 watt 15 inch Celestion and I have a very Precision bass sounding rig. I would say that this bass is built at least as well as my Fender Mexican Jazz that is 5 years old. A very good investment so far. I bought it for playing the last set of a longer gig since the 34 inch scale can start hurting my arthritic hands. I have played 4 gigs with it so far, and after the set up stuff, and figuring out the rig set up, other bass players in the audience have said it kicks ***.
