The Mutable Instruments Clouds is a granular texturizer for Softube's Modular soft synth. Based on the cult-favorite hardware Eurorack module, Clouds divides an audio stream into multiple droplets. Control the speed, size, texture, and flow of the droplets, or send droplets firing left and right with the stereo spread function. Create simple reverbs or delays, or deploy this plug-in as an instrument of destruction. You can also use it as a one-shot sampler, thanks to its freeze function. Cloud supplies you with four audio quality modes, including 8-bit options that are great for grunging things up. Imagine that your audio is water coming out of a hose. Clouds is like putting an adjustable nozzle on the hose, allowing you to spray the water (audio) all over the place. And like a nozzle with adjustable spray patterns, Clouds lets you manipulate your audio in a myriad of ways. Divide your audio into 16ms to 1s droplets. Scrub the droplets through a buffer. Change their speed, sample size, and texture. Chop them to bits. Transform a snare hit into ambient droning soundscapes. Stack droplets together until they sound like an otherworldly reverb. Pitch-shift and time-stretch them into oblivion. Freeze the buffer to create bizarre one-shot samples. Use an external oscillator to freeze and unfreeze an audio stream in a rhythmic, robotic fashion. Populate the buffer with multiple different tones, using it like a wavetable. Or just grunge stuff up by adding grit and texture. We've found a million fun ways to use Clouds here at Sweetwater. Warning — it's highly addictive.
