Nice Piece of Kit!

By Tom from Florida

I recently purchased the Tascam Model 2400 to become the heart of my home recording studio. As others have stated, it carries a noticeable footprint. So make sure you have enough room for this mixer/multi-tracker. I have mine sitting atop a large, height adjustable desk with two reference monitor sets anchored to the rear portion of the desk. The twin electric motors under the workspace are designed to lift up to 200 lbs. So I have zero worries about too much weight on the desk when I take a break from sitting and stand. As a multi-instrumentalist, I've used stand alone recorders in the past - and the Tascam Model 2400 is easy to set up and use right out of the box! The layout is also straightforward and intuitive. So, the routing and workflow has been a relatively seamless process. I am also impressed with the preamps, controls, and overall architecture of this device. Although the LCD screen is large enough to get the job done, I will probably connect an iPad to the USB port to monitor my tracks. Some other reviewers have stated that the 2400's limited DAW capabilities are an issue. I disagree. Remember, this analog board is designed to be the workhorse and centerpiece of your recording process. It has enough hybrid integration capabilities to get you into app land, where you can dabble in DAW until your heart's content, but that's not nearly as fun - and certainly not a relaxed experience in my opinion. The fact that you can mix and master your projects and achieve professional results without using a computer is pretty impressive. And it looks cool

Analog Workflow

By Sweetwater Customer

The first one I received was very noisy with lots of crosstalk. The second - thanks to Sweetwater's generous return policy - is fully functional with much less noise. However, if you tap on the top of the board (the control surface) with your finger it has a disturbing rattle which is not confidence inspiring. These issues could be due to abusive shipping though, so I don't know. I'm just glad I have one that works - as my control room mixer/recorder because, as an old guy who wants/needs an analog workflow, its the best there is. (Tascam Model 2400)

What the Model 24 should’ve been originally.

By Jude A. from Lutherville Timonium, MD

I'm a previous owner of the Model 24 and it was almost perfect. It didn't have more than 2 insert options and also couldn't process with eq & compression thru usb. The Model 2400 was the answer to that. Now had 12 insert options and can now process EQ & compression thru usb. The 2400 is bigger & better. Couldn't have asked for a better upgrade. This thing is a workhorse and can be configured in all kind of ways for complicated and simple setups. Definitely worth the money if you're considering one.

Amazing!

By Bob G. from Greer, SC

The Tascam Model 2400 is an amazing piece of gear. I compared the Model 24 vs the Model 2400 and found that, for me, the increased functionality and technologies of the Model 2400 were well worth the added cost. Thankfully, it paired easily with my M2 Mac-Mini and Cubase Pro. Thumbs up to my Rep, Adam Chesi, Sweetwater and all involved with my purchase.

I love this thing!

By Mike B. from New Hampshire
Music Background: Drummer and promoter, white mountain boogie and blues

I had a tascam studio bridge connected to a mackie 32 8 buss. It was really working great until my old mackie started to fail. The first night of band practice was great. Headphone mix sounded great and the first recording was up quite a few notches from any of my previous recordings. I have been a musician for 45 years not a recording engineer... so I am learning. This thing almost makes it easy!

The Tascam 2400 is stellar!

By Kevin S. from St. Louis
Music Background: Drummer, guitarist, keyboard, songwriter.

Over the past 25 years I have been recording... I started with 1/2" analog, moved to 24 track digital and now I am using what may be the single coolest piece of gear I have ever purchased. This 24 track recorder, mixer, interface does everything Tascam intended for it to do. The mic pre's are so good, the recording is effortless and very impressive for a unit at this price range. I will enjoy creating on this deck for a minute. A+. What a great piece of gear! KUDOS TASCAM...I love this deck!

Love the workflow

By Alex from Santa Fe
Music Background: Producer / performer

It's a tremendous machine. Great preamps, great sounding EQ and compressors to my ears. Great to record into computer with and most importantly, record standalone. I would buy it again and recommend it to everyone looking for a truly hybrid analog / digital setup.

There are a couple things worth mentioning however.
- The USB un-mounts from the computer quite often and I have to re-plug it in to reengage the device as my ins/outs in my DAW.
- I'd say there are pretty unconventional metronome sounds (not very neutral like bell and snare drum) and you cannot import any of your own (to my knowledge)
- One must constantly reset sample rate for every new song from the default 44.1 / 16 to whatever you choose rather than having there be a master sample rate. Maybe that's just not how that's meant to work. It makes for some DAW compatibility issues I have to reset quite often.
- The DAW controller mode is not as helpful or functional as I had hoped. For example you can only record arm tracks 1-8 on the device. And actually if you have Channel 9 set to record and it's the first channel on your DAW, you'll have to arm Channel 1. It's perplexing. Plan on using another DAW controller alongside.
- Haven't found the app very useful

I'd give it a 4.5/5 rather than a 4. 90% stoked on it and I can't say that about any Apollo system or mixer I've used at the heart of my studio / live setup. It's a true gift to the project studio world, it's massive and the faders FEEL AMAZING. It's largely intuitive and it's a joy to work in a way that lets me play the mixer like an instrument. On top of that, TASCAM is great on customer support and I've been able to resolve all issues day-of.

Big thanks to Max and Sweetwater team.

Amazing!

By Delon from Windsor Mill, MD

I purchased the tascam model 2400 to pair with my mpc live and I love it! It doesn't come with a usb cable so be sure to get the right cable if you don't want to run into any problems like I did. The tascam adds so more excitement to my studio! standalone with the mpc or connect to my pc using pro tools, fl studio , reaper, studio one, logic and more! the setup is a little different for each daw. I found pro tools, fl studio and reaper easier to setup up with.

Solid Build and Sound

By Kurt from Raymond, NH

Upgraded from the 2400, Sounds better, feels good and the options that it has built in for an analog mixer/interface/effects unit/Swiss army knife for every input and output ever feels infinite. Extremely user friendly and wonderful if you have 12 synths and Dj setup. It manages them all very well while recording live. Additionally, I was able to take my Model 12 and run the my various semi modulars into it, then output to an L/R on the 2400 with little no sound quality loss (tested). Tascam is a great product with a great future.

TASCAM RULES!!! From DP to 2400 Kills!

By Shelby S. from Wilmington, NC
Music Background: performer, recording hobbyist for 30 years.

Absolutely no regrets about this purchase. I have slowly been moving away from DAWS over the last 5 years. I record and release my own music, and often get support on the mixing, but have been wanting to try my hand at that for creative control. I was using the Tascam DP-32SD for recording, but found this difficult, less than fun, and sonically uninspiring to mix on. I once recorded in a DAW (using StudioOne) but just lost the enthusiasm for that. Most of my recording sessions in the limited time I had (I work a full time "other" job) were spent with updates, inactivated plugins, and just general BS. That fatigued me, so I picked up the DP-23 in 2019 or so, and used that for my last releases. (Shameless plug: See Shelby Smoak on all digital streaming to check out the Tascam DP recordings; no 2400 recordings are out yet as of Jan. 2025).

I do love the DP-32 unit so it was very hard to know if jumping to the 2400 would be worth it. It's not a cheap venture. Let me just say here: IT IS!!! I just can't explain how much more fun this unit is, and how excited I am to record tracks on it and then mix them! Is it as great as a DAW, or as the digital Tascam DP? That's the wrong question for me. Who cares?! Is this more fun and inspiring. YES! My complaints with the DP-32 esp. regarded the digital EQ which was hard to see on the tiny screen and which always nagged me as not really sounding stellar. It may be subjective, but the EQs on the 2400 are far superior! They are smooth, easy to manipulate, and let me use my ears instead of my eyes looking at a very tiny digital screen.

Other things I love about the 2400: Big, visible meter! I'm not even using the ipad app, which everyone raves about yet, but I can plug in my guitar, throw up a mic, set me preamp levels, and then see this meter easily in my studio. I also love the submix groups. Just makes mixing so much easier when you are doing intros and fades or part drop outs. Of course, I know in a DAW this is way easier and cleaner, but that's not where I'm at. So if I'm mxing out of the box, then the sub-mixes elevate that for me and provide an incredibly useful tool. I also love the faders. They rock! OHHH, the sound! It sounds glorious, and pretty. It definitely apes the DP-32 in terms of sonics. It's hard to put my finger on it: more depth, wider, more impressive clarity. It's there.

To wrap this up, if you are already smitten with Tascam and are wondering about a move to the 2400, I just don't see me ever regretting this purchase! It's just amazing. If you're bored with the tedium of a DAW, this one can get you in the ballpark. Just know there's no mix SAVE or RECALL. When I mix, I picture it and write down all the moves. I'm cool with that, 'cause having those knobs and that sound and not having to mess with the unpredictability of a DAW, worth it.

Love It

By Sweetwater Customer

If you want something that has everything you would need to record a band this is it. I couldn't be happier. I really hope that Tascam releases a new model soon that has double the amount of channels. I will be buying it if it ever happens.

It’s really versatile and of great quality

By James S.
Music Background: Professional Jazz guitarist and educator

I have had the Tascam model 2400 for a couple of weeks now and I have to say, it has exceeded my expectations. I I purchased this mostly to use to make my next album. I'll be recording my jazz guitar trio (Guitar, upright bass, and drums) new album using this as an interface into my computer. But, it works great as a stand-alone recording device, live mixer, or any combination of the above. I have recorded the tracks from my last album to the board from my DAW where each track has its own fader…it was just a project to do to understand the device and the signal flow of the mixer. I can remix the tracks through this board (including the master compressor and EQ) back into the DAW as well. I can record to the board on location then dump the tracks to the DAW when I get back to the studio, or I can track my band live to a DAW in real time. The converters sound great and the preamps are clean and loud eithout being noisey. I can record with the channel compressors and track EQs on the tracks to the DAW.
Having grown up with Tascam multitrack recorders it feels great to have a modern, no compromise, fully featured version.
I have no regrets at all having made this purchase / investment.

So Much Better!

By M. W. from Brownsburg, IN
Music Background: Hobbiest songwriter, producer, and recording enthusiast.

I once had the Model 12 about 3 years ago. For its capabilities, it was a phenomenal mixer. With a few updates, Tascam made it, and the 16 / 24, a very capable all-around device. The feedback from users were pointed directly at adding features that would be most welcomed for both studio, and live, situations. I only plan on using it in my studio and the new features work flawlessly, sound great and GREATLY reduces the learning curve from competing, digital boards.

I use 16 channels of 500 series devices and with the inserts available to ALL input sources, I can add any 500 modules at any point in the recording, or mixing, process with a level of ease where I could teach it to my 9 year old. That, simply, can't be said for most digital mixers and all the capabilities they have. In addition, the addition of dual mono inserts, compression and EQ on the Main Bus is just a huge bonus.

You can now record, or mix, with each channel EQ and compression on or off. Also, computer audio can be moved to channel 21 / 22 or the main bus instead of being stuck with it on mono channels 1 and 2.

All around, it's a GREAT design, sounds fantastic and so easy to use. I would be willing to bet a 1200 and 1600 are on the way and if they are similar to the 2400, there are going to be a lot of happy Tascam customers in the future. I can't recommend this product enough.

Special thanks to the Ken Nace and his Sweetwater team!

Tascam Model 2400 is a winner!

By Sweetwater Customer

As an owner of the Model 24, this is a welcome upgrade! Anyone in the know can see it was designed primarily for Live sound and recording,BUT do not discount its use as a studio console/multitrack recording setup for your home studio.

As you'll see I have a fair mount of actual Hardware reverbs, delays, compression setup using the aux's and sub outs as sends, and a beringher line mixer to sum them all and returned to the 21/22 blue tooth channel. Along with a compressor added to the master bus insert-so yes you can do the double compression trick using that and the built in master bus compressor/eq.

For anyone looking to totally ditch the DAW world, and I was, this is perfect and affordable. Is it an SSL. No it's not, can you record very high quality music, with the ability to Punch in! Yes you can. Get the right SD card! It's important.
