Great product ruined by poor quality components

By Brian G. from FRIDLEY, MN

I was apprehensive to buy this based on forum discussions I'd read about failing components, especially faders. I bought it anyways and sure enough, within 3 months of light use I was having fader contact issues, rendering the unit unusable. Don't be fooled by the rugged exterior construction, the stuff on the inside is garbage.

Model 16

By Steve H. from Tampa

We use this in our band for recording live shows. The tracks are downloaded into a DAW for further mixing.

We play outdoors in Florida and it has held up for 3 years so far with 8-12 gigs a year.

Easy to use and the preamps don't suck. Very happy with it so far.

Great for capturing our gigs on an SD card.

A good mixer

By Dwight from CHARLOTTE, MI

This is a solid, dependable mixer. It was easy to install and set up in our church setting. The Bluetooth connection is simple and quick. I know we're not using a lot of the unit's features but it does everything we need it to do and does it well.

Great Mixer and the price is right

Music Background: I can play multiple instruments so I basically record at home.

I've only recently purchased this so I'm still learning about it. It has a lot of features like faders. Well worth owning.

This is an excellent device.

By Michael A. from Warwick, RI
Music Background: Professional

This is an excellent device. People who make music should buy it right away in my opinion. Because it sounds nice. When recording music into a computer the sound is ok, but a computer does not include the internal mechinsms, components and circuitry in this device. So recording music into this unit is much better than what a computer is capable of because there would be no point in a device like this existing otherwise. This is an excellent device 10 stars

A great investment!

By Bill E.
Music Background: Professional Keyboardist

I bought the Tascam Model 16 for live mixing while recording and studio recording. It is a joy to use.
Great clean sound from pre-amps. Compressor, EQ, and effects all sound great. It's also analog, aside from effects and recording, and has multitrack recording.
The layout is intuitive and makes mixing and recording a breeze.
The mixer can be used for DAWless recording with punch in/out, but it also integrates well with a DAW through USB and SD card.
I haven't had any issues so far.
Overall, it is a versatile and fun to use tool.

Perfect with my MPC Live 2

By Tommy T. from Polk County Florida
Music Background: Started making beats in 2008

I bought this mixer to use with my MPC Live 2 and my external gear. So far so good! I wont be using the internal recorder so i cant speak on that.

• The eqs are good for minor touchups
• The verb effects are good quick touches but they only have two perimeters to adjust
• The sliders and knobs feel pretty decent
• The layout is nice i love it
• Bluetooth works perfect there is zero delay
• Easily connects to MPC no problem at all!!!
• Connecting external gear to use with MPC is straight forward but does use up either two channels or one dual channel per peace of stereo gear, 1 track for mono gear. Not a big deal for my use!
• I needed more tracks than the model 12 which is why I got the 16. If i had more space i would have got the 24.

Overall this mixer is perfect for my use. Im happy i bought it! It adds a lot of fun and convenience when producing from MPC!

Simple and effective tool that lets you focus on the music

By Uncle C.
Music Background: 35 year musician with some engineering experience

I picked one of these up off of Gear Exchange a few weeks ago. I find it to be a very effective tool for laying down tracks and emerging with a good sounding mix. With its simple controls I find myself immediately immersed in the music and mixing with my ears, not my eyes. I won't say that it sounds better than a DAW, but I get better sounding mixes with it. Your mileage may vary.

If you are considering buying this, do some research to learn what it actually is you are buying. It's a 3-in-1 device that can do a LOT of different things. I use it like a Portastudio, but it can also be used with a DAW (for both tracking and mixdown) or even as a live mixer. Go watch the Sweetwater and Produce Like A Pro YouTube videos covering the Tascam 24 (its big brother) to learn more and hear what it's capable of.

It does have quite a few limitations of which you should be aware. Not all 16 tracks are available for multitracking - 15/16 are reserved for the mixdown and 9-14 are stereo pairs (put your synths and submixes here). Compression and inserts are only applied during tracking. EQ is only applied during mixdown. There are no solo buttons (use PFL instead). Tascam had to make choices to meet the price/size target and I think they made the right ones.

The auto-punch works but it's a bit clunky to set up. You are better off using the footswitch and retaking a large enough section of the song. You do need to have a certain level of musical skill to record in a "tape" environment like this.

My biggest complaint is that it only has 2 inserts. Having inserts on every channel (and the mix bus) would allow it to be supplemented with outboard equipment when needed.

Conclusion - This is a good choice for anyone recording organic music (rock, country, jazz, folk, chamber music, etc.), ESPECIALLY if you are trying to capture live or live-in-studio type performances. Songwriters will also benefit from the simplicity. And lastly, anyone who is just learning (or re-learning) how to record can build good fundamentals without the endless distraction of plug-ins and do-dads.

How to use as an interface with a Daw

By Aidan from Colorado
Music Background: Musician/Engineer

When connecting to a computer to use as an interface set the switch to PC for every channel. Next open preferences in your Daw and set to the right driver ( explained in manual ) then set the first input as 1 and the last as 14 and do the same for the outputs. After that in your Daw open the routing matrix and assign each channel the correct output exe. Channel one output to channel 1 and channel 2 output to channel 2 and so on. Great sounding preamps, the compressors are transparent, and the EQs work great.

Limited

By Ken from Pensacola FL
Music Background: Musician (acoustic guitar, bass, vocals)/ home studio engineer

I have had the TASCAM Model 16 for nearly 2 years. I am not happy with it. The main outs are only HiZ no 1/4" inch. My biggest complaint and frustration is The control room outs are mono, no left to right function, All the send go through two send outs, Play back from the computer is pre fader level only.

It records extremely well when using the SDXC chip. But it is difficult to track with. Best for recording live performances. The main outs no longer work after a couple of storms, and there is a buzz sound on the left out of the sub out and control room out. I know it's not my monitors because I have another interface I also use, and have no noise from that one.

Perhaps I should have gone with Behringer instead. Tascam has gone way down hill since the end of the TMD-1000.

Completes My Musical Workflow!

By Francisco D. from Chicago
Music Background: Keyboard Player/Hobbyist

I record all my instruments on my Korg Kronos sequencer: Bass, guitar, drums, percussions. I do all my keyboard playing live with my singing (on top of my recorded instrument tracks). That said, I needed a mixer that would record my live playing and would deliver a final track of my songs. That's where the TASCAM Model 16 came in to the scene! Before this mixer, I used a Rockville RPM 870. I was happy with the sound but I was limited in tracks and I had no way to record on it. The flash drive recorder on the Rockville was garbage. horrible sound. That's when I decided to upgrade to the Model 16.

At first, I thought it was a little flat/light sounding. But in time, I realized the sound produced from the Rockville was too Bass-Heavy. I used it for so long, hearing the excessive low frequencies became normal to me. The Model 16 helped me reset my sound pallet & EQ settings. It took me some time to find the perfect EQ setting to my liking but after a few weeks I finally got it! I now compare my Youtube videos where I used the Rockville and where I use the Model 16 and my sound is more balanced on the EQ spectrum now. Once I found the right sound adjustment, I started recording!

I realized using my stage mic (Senheiser MD 435) was not giving me the crisp studio sound I imagined on my vocals. Im an analog fanatic, as you can imagine, I don't use DAW's for editing, autotune, and plugins. I decided to buy an Aston Spirit Microphone to record my vocals. Using the Aston Mic and Compressing it with my Berhinger Multicom Pro through the insert connections gave me the perfect vocal sound I was looking for. The Tascam Model 16 had finally completed my musical workflow! It delivered a great sounding Demo of my songs. I even uploaded these Demos to Spotify, and let me just say "they do not fall behind to other artists high-end studio recordings." You get a great sound! They sound amazing in my truck! I included a video link of the recorded audio in this review. But like I said, I do all my instrument track recordings on my Kronos. The Model 16 brought together my live keyboard playing and Vocals with my recorded instrument tracks. I'm not a professional musician, I'm just a hobbyist keyboard player. For my use its PERFECT! Especially since I'm old school and don't use DAWs. However, If you are looking to do more in-depth detail recording, mastering of an entire band, this board won't help you with that.

That being said, I'm a firm believer that raw talent is what makes a great sounding track. That with a little EQ & compression. That's it! The Model 16 delivers just that- The essentials. Don't get me wrong, DAW's take your recordings and editing to another level when you are a profesional recording engineer. But I see videos of amateur musicians that use nothing but DAWs and rely completely on so many plug-ins, Auto-tune, copy/paste etc... You shouldn't have to rely on so many effects to make your recordings sound good. Part of making great music is rehearsing and enjoying the process. You perfect the craft of music making when you practice. The editing should only be the polish of the rehearsed recorded audio, the cherry on top. But that's just me. Hope this review helps.

Tascam Model 16

By Walt R.

So far, I love this machine! I am still learning the in's and out's of this unit but so far so good. The one thing I am disappointed in is that it appears that through the USB hook up to my computer, I can only play pre-recorded music through channels 1 and 2. I would much prefer to use the stereo channels, i.e. 9/10, 11/12, etc. I haven't contacted tech support yet to see if I am missing something but I am pretty sure I am stuck with channels. Anyway this is a very nice unit. Also, I want to reach out to my sales advisor Mark Magdich for always being there to help me with my needs.

Great Mixer

By Joel from Va
Music Background: Studio musician and occasional live performances.

I upgraded from an old Tascam M-2524 Pro mixer. The Model 16 was more crisp, clear, and had everything built in. The digital effects were much better than expected. The compression is exactly what you need. It hooks up to the computer and sends all channels to Cubase making it simple to connect, easy to record, and sounds great. I ended up getting rid of my old mixer and my rack of effects after buying the Model 16. I'm starting to wish I had bought the Model 24 but haven't run out of channels yet.

This is the perfect unit for home studio recordings and rehearsals. For on-the-road use it can even make great recordings onto an SD card.

Very poor quality pre amps, too many shortcomings, not worth the asking price.

By Dean

I've sat with this unit for several months of in depth use. I'd like to write a detailed review to help someone understand what they're getting into with this recorder before dropping money on it. I've used it in it's intended analog capacity, and as a digital audio interface into a daw. For both uses the sound of the pre amps are horribly cheap, and thin sounding. The pre amps are Tascam's HDDA preamps, and when compared to any flagship audio interface it falls short. I have a Scarlett focusrite and audient audio interface both are at least 30-50% superior in audio quality and way cheaper to buy. these HDDA pre amps sound super cheap. i've done detailed comparison tests in my daw. The audio is thin sounding and lacks fullness. Sounds cheap. Drums, guitars, vocals all sound thin, and these preamps are very bad with high spl sounds. kicks always sound to loud or too low in the mix, and snare as well. These pre amps respond awfully to sharp transients. guitars sound excessively flubby and vocals also never sit well in the mix. Pretty much everything i record with this the elements sound too low or too loud in the mix it is near impossible to solidly balance the elements. The clarity is undetailed, and everything lacks fullness in the low end.

Everything you record with this unit will sound like a demo. At first I really though it was my skill and I did everything before deciding this thing is no good. The last straw was I did a full recording with my scarlett Focusrite 2i2 and compared it to an audio recording from the Tascam (both raw), and my god the scarlett recorded the audio way clearer, and fuller and everything automatically sat better in the mix with basic balancing. I was shocked at the difference the Scarlett sounded like a pro recording and the Tascam sounded like a low quality demo. In response to the awful quality i was getting on this unit, I treated my room, and learned way better mic placements and really got better at engineering. In trying to get good sounds from this unit I improved immensely at recording so for that tascam has my thanks. In the end I was never able to consistently get a good sound from this unit. This thing sounds so thin and unclear that it will force you to question your entire existence as a person who does audio recording.

If you are looking for a unit to use as a portable multitrack recorder to make demos with that has an analog workflow then this is ok for that. I'd probably say get the smaller one the model 12. It is intensely more complicated then the old cassette portastudios that this evolved from. and the audio is lofi but lacks vibe unlike the cassette ones which I've also used in depth. Using the unit to record to the sd card is very difficult and limiting. titling songs is very difficult, and you are unable to trim audio in any way. So if you record a 17 min jam you have to take the whole 17 minute file into the daw and edit it down to whatever you want. There is no function to do this on the unit which is very disappointing. I have a 70 dollar handheld digital Recorder from Sony which allows me to trim audio, loop audio and delete audio all from the device interface. This unit allows you to essentially do nothing in this regard. Overall very difficult to use this as a digital multitrack recorder.

The analog mixing function is cool but has too many shortcomings. You cannot print your tracks with eq from the board, and the compression knob is not very good sounding. and doesn't do anything after a sound has been recorded. You can only activate the on board compressor while you are recording live. you only get two inserts and this unit adds nasty hiss to anything you do on it. i tried to parallel process a snare and add some grit to it from the pre amp. Sounded so bad. you cannot effect individual elements with the on board effects you can only choose one effect and apply it to all desired channels. Mixing is extremely limiting on this unit. the eq's have limited range and the low cut filter doesn't even do anything from what I can tell. I believe this unit could be good for a live venue or a band who just wants to record audio from rehearsal. It definitely is a strong live mixer but horrible for any serious recording endeavors.

If you are looking for something which can deliver professional audio, I'd say look at a dedicated audio interface. This unit is not good for pro recording but I think is ok for home demos, and recording live performance. the preamps are just not good enough for clear sounding studio recording.

Great value for synthesists

By DIVINITAL

It's hard to describe how this has transformed my entire process over the course of a few days.

As a synth user with a single guitar to record, I've always thought expensive preamp interfaces with 2 inputs, or max 8 + ADAT expansions, were my only options. But then I found out about mixers with built in interfaces. If GAS wasn't a thing before with limited inputs it sure will be now that I likely won't run out for years, even multitracking.

Recording all my semi-modular gear at once is crucial since they interplay. I had an Audient that I didn't feel I utilized well enough since I am not a microphone person. The best sounding interfaces are usually referential to mic recordings, such as mic'd amplifiers or simply vocal mics. By all means, I'm sure the Tascam Model 16 does not have the best audio, but I really couldn't care and I can't even tell since I only use synths that I further process in a DAW.

It's a Swiss Army knife. I can listen to and record direct to SD if I'm not feeling the PC. If I am, I can record all tracks separately to my DAW for processing. It has its own built in FX (only one at a time though) for live use. Being able to trim frequencies with a knob and adjust volumes with a fader is unbelievable having only used digital gear before. I can use BlueTooth from my phone and just stream a song to jam to, it really is the most essential piece of gear in my studio besides the instruments I use.

I highly recommend this if you're an electronic musician.

works like the old tape ones

By agsmith

what I was looking for was something like this that you could apply EQ to individual tracks and bring the processed track individually into your DAW. this unit will not do that. if you want to import individual tracks without mixing down on the unit the EQ does not work. i wish they had wired it so you could but i also know most people just EQ later. i guess thinking it was like a series of old fashioned pre amp channel strips for this price was dumb on my part too, but the sales people and techs at SW should know this (Tascam help was on the job though. They called me back same day to explain!). what i wanted was to be able to pre-eq some cheap ribbon mics. otherwise it's fun! no computer needed and i like the pre's better than my focusrite (i use rode nt5's on drums mostly) but still a step below my sound devices 702 pre's. some people say you cant tell but even with mid range condensers like the nt5's you really can. decent condensers sparkle with good pre's!

I love it but here is what you need to know

By RJ I. from Illinois
Music Background: Recording/Mixing Engineer

This mixer is a multitool on so many levels. Multichannel interfacing works like a dream. If you intend on combining this with your other interfaces via Mac OS Aggregate Device or ASIO4ALL on windows it will STILL work. Overall it is a professional piece of gear. The multitrack recorder is great for when you don't wanna haul your computer around, I personally recorded some drums and had music playing for the drummer via my phone and the Bluetooth connection.

One weird note is in order to listen to the playback on your computer, you have to have channels one and two on PC mode and turn your faders up. Very odd if you ask me, and I kinda hope that gets changed via an update to the firmware.

I also wouldn't mind a firmware update that allows for DAW control, I know the only reason the model 12 has it is that it uses a USB C connection but I'm sure this can handle an update that can make it a controller.

Be sure to update to the latest Firmware to get the Stereo Output option, because that is a lifesaver for utilizing all your channels on something like OBS or Discord where it does not support multichannel interfaces.

This mixer overall is made for professionals because it is in fact a hybrid mixer. You can send outputs to a channel and mix in analog which allows for some crazy options for mixing and mastering while using outboard gear.

If I had space I'd even go so far as to buy the larger model 24 and record a whole band and then some.

Best long term purchase I've made with sweetwater, I'm never disappointed.

Tascam says it all!

By Larry C. from OK
Music Background: Guitar, keys, vocals, bass, drums

This will be my first review, so I will try and keep it short. My purchase was a Tascam Model 16 and I couldn't be happier!

I've had a home studio most of my life, and part of the choice of my purchase was my previous experience with Tascam. Up until about a decade ago, I owned and used a Tascam 80-8 R2R recorder, 10 1/2" x 1/2" reels, and an attached Dolby noise reduction unit. I was reluctant to move over to computer based recording, but finally did. You lose a lot of headroom but of course, what you gain makes up for it. Anyway, the Model 16 mixer has proven to be quite good, although using the internal MTR function will be my next adventure. My primary use of it so far has been as DAW interface and PC interface. In this usage, it has presented crystal clear functionality and results. I like the layout, and really like the built-in compressors on the 1st 8 channels! And of course, the USB connectivity on all channels was key to my purchase.

My second Kudo's go to Sweeetwater for making this process seamless and painless! They were great to work with, very helpful. Thanks guys!

Sweetwater is the right choice!

By williamSeattle, W. from Seattle,WA

I wanted a Tascam Model 24...then thought about the Model 12. After discussing my ideas and preferences with Jon, I knew the Model 16 was the right choice!

I guess my point is before I purchased the Model 16 I had a lengthy discussion with Jon about my projects and ideas.

He's a sales guy, yet, it felt like a trusted friend. I greatly enjoy positive and sincere customer service!

That's the part I enjoyed. As a musician working in my home studio I needed to talk to someone whos is in the trenches of musical gear. Someone who could offer a useful opinion.

Why did it take me so long to get on board with Sweetwater? These guys are #1. A solid experience!

I will definitely purchase more gear!

Tascam 16

wishing for a better user manual

By Joe B. from Tennessee
Music Background: I've played guitar and sang for 54 years, have played with audio preamps, and filters for nearly that long. Wife, Sharon, plays guitar, piano, and mountain dulcimer

Okay, let's get the things that I don't like over with. The manual. The manual should tell you what PFL and AFL is without having to go to Tascam and ask. The manual doesn't tell you. Solo in Place makes more sense to me, but then I'm a dinosaur. I like for manuals to give me specifications like the old days. I'm told the mixer has a compressor. Don't know what it does or how it works. Tascam says to adjust it till it sounds good. ??? I have no idea what the knob does or whether it affects compression threshold or compression rate. I will figure it out. I've done a lot of reverse engineering over the years but I should not have to do that. The block diagrams and gain structure diagrams are unreadable in the printed version of the manual.
The fader knobs are a joke as well as the feel of the faders. Fragile. We are still waiting for the headphones and microphone. Beginning to think that wasn't a real offer. No feedback from Tascam about when to expect them.
So I gave the thing a 4 star because of all the above.
In spite of my gripes I really like the model 16. We've been recording with it and it is like a dream come true for us to be able to record multiple tracks individually and be able to mix them down and listen and use it to improve our music. Sharon says it's the best $... we've spent in a long time. Sound quality is excellent. I'm slowly learning the ins and outs of managing the menu. It has so many features we may never need all of them.

Excellent For Old-School (Style) Recording!

By Scott S. from South Central Michigan
Music Background: Mr. Muckabout

I've had my Model 16 for almost a year now, having purchased it back in November of 2019. Having cut my teeth on a Tascam Model 246 back in the day, I was overjoyed when I saw they (Tascam) were moving back into analog-style board recording and not only for nostalgia purposes. Even with controllers that replaced the mouse in DAW recordings, I have always preferred using an analog board and having hands-on control - a tactile approach that, no matter how close it was in whichever DAW I was using, often seemed lacking to me. I know it's a matter-of-taste and habit, but I just love that style of mixing and recording.

The Model 16 just about brings me back to those heady days of cutting entire songs, voice overs, soundtrack pieces and more on my 246. Mind you, it's not as flexible in the bounce department, but I can easily get around that with a couple of patch cables. The sound is pristine (sometimes too much so - I bought a Soyuz The Launcher preamp to give a touch of grit to some things) and it's stupidly simple to get around on the menu and get either a new project started or to call up an existing one to work on again. Granted there are some quirks, but I'm hard-pressed to think of any that stumped me or caused me to re-think my purchase. Any of the existing software flaws that were there in the beginning have been addressed. It is a super-fast workflow for me; again quite possibly because of how I started out years ago, but it does seem so much easier to get ideas - complete ideas - down quick and easy and ready to go, that it is hard not to gush about it.

When I feel I've got as far as I can with my recording inside the 16, it's fairly easy to drop it into Studio One (my current DAW of choice) and do anything else I might happen to need there. Or, should it be required, I can use the 16 for a front end to go straight into the computer, all the while creating a back-up recording on the 16 itself. Very nice!

I've recommended this to several musicians who just want a simple system to work with. I would also recommend it to anyone who wants a separate system to run alongside their DAW. I truly believe the Model 16 is a return-to-form for Tascam and a welcome addition to the myriad choices we have today for home and project studio recording. Five stars easily!

Live band analog mixer with built in digital recorder

By Ralf from Oregon
Music Background: Musician, Band Manager

This is the best live band mixer/recorder! Playing in bands for more than fifty years has taught me a few things. Number one is "keep things simple". Tascam's Model 16 does just that. Gig setup is quick and easy. Just plug in your inputs and outputs, set your levels and turn on the background music from your phone using the built in WiFi. Turning on the built in digital recorder at the start of the set gives you a professional recording of each band members vocal and instrument for review at your next practice. With the removable SD card, you can easily move the recording into your favorite DAW and use the finished product in your website. I've been looking for this my whole life and Sweetwater brought it to me at the right price and service professionalism you can always expect.

Features full, quality sounds

By Noi S. from Whitney Point, NY
Music Background: Technical sounds solutions.

What a great mixer. This mixer is full of features and signal routes capability. Fast shipping that you would come to expect with Sweetwater. FedEx dragged my freight all over New Jersey terminals for 3 days. My Location from New Jersey is only 3 hrs. Away. Should have received my orders in about a day at the most !

Old School Bliss

By Jud M. from Little Rock Arkansas
Music Background: drums, guitar, keyboard, musician for 30 plus yrs.

I just received the Tascam model16 multi-track recorder, mixer, interface and I am very pleased. The sound is great, and navigating to record tracks has been easy. This board is going to make my workflow so much easier,I will be able to solidify my ideas so much faster and commit them to the SD card, instead of changing multi parameters on my computer. I can then upload and finish on the DAW. I want to say a word about the staff at Sweetwater, nobody does it better, Jeff has been a great resource for me when I've bought gear in the past, and when he was on another line when I called to order, another sales rep hopped on and made it happen. When it comes to customer service, education and product education, nobody and I mean nobody does it better than Sweetwater, Shout out to Nick Dvirgilio for great drum product videos. Love you guys, Thanks again, Jud M.

I've been waiting for this

By StageRanger from Pittsburgh PA
Music Background: semi pro

I gave up trying to learn the digital recorders with all the menus and such. I had a DP-03Sd that I had to get out the manual every time and I was so discouraged that it sat unused in my closet for years.
I just couldn't wrap my old school brain around it. The last recorder I had that I really understood was a Tascam 244 so that shows you how much of a dinosaur I am. ;)
The layout on the Model 16 is just what I was looking for. An old familiar friend just like any analog mixer I've ever had. And with the ability to transfer to a DAW, I'm learning the digital stuff at my own pace. Maybe I'm missing something but I wish there was a way to bounce down and combine tracks to get a few more tracks to the mix. Being able to assign a different fx to each channel would be great too. I imagine this can be done when transferred to DAW but I haven't gotten that far yet.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

A lot of punch for not a lot of money

By Addison B. from WI
Music Background: Professional

Great board. The analog section is just short of awesome. Analog compression on every channel ? Kill me. Super clean pre-amps, weighted knobs, sweep-able mids, bus routing, I love the analog, and my Boss BR1600 had the "feel" of an analog board, but the converter was at the input. Not so this board, the converter is at record.
Primarily a live gig board, which I don't intend it for, as a home studio board, here's my take:

* One channel, individual, punch in recording, limits you to 8 tracks. If more are needed, an 8 track block ( bass, keys, drums ) can be recorded to stereo, and pulled back in on two tracks, leaving 6 tracks for git and vocals.

* Unity gain is the name of the game, thru the whole channel, more so when doing the above, as the alternative is mud when mastering multiple tracks, all seasoned different. Record the input, don't season it in the channel, even if you have to allow for an unrecorded seasoned track for the pre-Madonna amongst us. In other words, record DRY, that everything can be blended proper when mastering.

* Finally, the weakness..I never signed on with Tascam or Fostex equipment, for one reason, since the inception of home studio recording: Their sliders are brittle, and delicate. This board would rock for live gigs, but the sliders would be the first fail in gigging with it.

Tascam

By Brian from Near Cleveland
Music Background: 25 years or so. Guitar vocals drum machine

I have recently returned this item. I'm just used to a hd. There's a time when it is processing after you stop and that time is precious, I did record a few songs, but after awhile songwriting became hectic. Final product was no better than another mixer, I consider myself spoiled because I love my other recorder. Thanks.

Tascam model 16

By Buzz T. from Worcester mass.
Music Background: small project studio operator, guitarist

I have owned Tascam products starting with the porta-2 in 1986 (still have it ) a 2488 neo and a dp-32 which I also still have and use when the model 24 came out I loved it and wanted one but its too big for my needs so I was happy to see the model 16. The reviews I read and videos I saw were confusing as to whether this actually is a multi-track recorder,Yes it is and is actually very easy to operate once you understand it the owners manual like many is a bit confusing I joined a tascam model 24 group on face book the model 16 is basically the same the group had answers to all my questions and its up and running its very versatile as a live mixer, interface (I have studio one 4) and recorder I love it !!! And as with all my sweetwater gear roq martin made it happen again !!!

Don D.

By Don D. from Charlotte, North Carolina
Music Background: Professional Gospel singer and recording artist.

I have been recording for many years dating back to early Tascam Teac days. Lately, I have been using the new Tascam 16 and I must say it is an amazing piece of equipment. For an old timer as myself, it is the answer to my limited skills during this age of modern technology. I simply love it and the quality is beyond amazing. Very thankful for the person(s) who came up with this idea.
