Eventide Mixing Link Mic Preamp with FX Loop Reviews

Microphone Preamplifier and FX Loop Pedal, with 70dB of Gain, Phantom Power, Hold/Latch Modes, and DI Output

When you put the Eventide Mixing Link preamp pedal at the front of your live vocal chain, outstanding sound is sure to follow. It starts with an amazing preamplifier with phantom power, tons of gain for low-output mics, and ultra-low noise performance. You've got an effects loop that accepts balanced and unbalanced signals, so you can add studio effects or guitar stompboxes to enhance your sound. Many Sweetwater employees are vocalists, and all can attest that the Mixing Link is a smart way to integrate effects into your vocal chain.

An Excellent MIC Pre

By Dave from Chattanooga, TN
Music Background: guitar hobbyist

I purchased the Eventide Mixing Link to use as a MIC preamp for recording guitar at home. I am using a condenser mic, which requires phantom power, which the Mixing Link handily provides. The features of the Mixing Link are well thought-out and easy to understand and use. The unit is dead quiet with the use of high-quality (Mogami) connecting cables. The only nit I have with it is that surprisingly, there is no on-off switch. The only way to turn it on and off is to unplug the power supply wall-wart or disconnect the power supply cord from the unit. I solved this problem by installing an in-line switch in the power cord. Otherwise I find the unit to be an excellent MIC preamp.

Eventide Mixing Link - where have you been???

By Jonathan H. from Stalybridge, United Kingdom
Music Background: Did okay a while ago, when Manchester was it.

Hi
I'm using this for guitar. Chain is strat or Gibson SG, Effectrode Mercury Fuzz (for strat only with the fuzz setting as low as it will go), Effectrode compressor, Fender 63 outboard reverb tank, Sansamp bddi (works for me!) with phantom power from the Mixing Link, power via an Effectrode Atomic power supply daisy chained to the Mixing Link via a TC Polytune. This is for home use with AKG K701 phones. I had some initial ground noise problems with the strat although they resolved once I'd experimented with level settings and weirdly once I'd used the ML for a couple of days (possibly static from the manufacturing process?) The SG proved unproblematic after a couple of hours use (again fizzy strings). I've placed various effects in the ML's loop and found it works wonderfully. I've not played out for a while, but when I did it was with big amps and long soundchecks. I would have absolutely no problem in presenting this headphone rig as my live setup with the ML as my di. It's solved so many problems for me and I can't speak highly enough of it. Cheers!

Dispointing . Hiss with eventide name on it

By Kobi F. from Tel Aviv Israel
Music Background: Music producer, sound technician

I would expect a much quiter preamp from such a company. Just plug a 58 straight to a live console and switch to the eventide and hear the hiss coming in.
Nice size, nice possibilities but the noise make it good for the local bar jam session and nothing else

Too noisy for me

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased this unit for looping vocals. The first unit I tried was very noisy, not practical for my use. When I plugged the unit in and engaged effect, an audible hiss was always there. I actually sent the unit back, and tried another, because I thought that the unit might have been defective. Same thing. I tried to contact Eventide by phone, and they said to use the email contact. I never heard anything from Eventide. Maybe this unit works for some folks, but not for me.

Amazing for the price

By Pete L.

I wanted a good solution for vocal and acoustic instrument effects and it does that no problem. Was shocked at how good the pre was for what you pay and what else you get. A real gem.

Must Have Tool

By Jay G. from Plymouth, MA

I'm always skeptical of "Swiss Army-knife" type solutions -- usually they do a bunch of things... poorly. After playing around with this for just a little while I've already made a permanent place for it in my gig kit. The pre-amp is better than the one in my Mackie board and the switching and routing options are marvelous. It will probably never get the recognition it deserves since it's hard to classify, but if you're a sound engineer or a gigging musician you must have at least one of these.
