Get Your Mix On with Sound Devices' MixPre-D

Need a compact, high-performance portable audio mixer that can handle your most demanding field mixing assignments? The Sound Devices MixPre-D gives you flexible pro connectivity and great-sounding audio capture in a small, lightweight package. MixPre-D sports two studio-grade mic/line inputs with limiters, highpass filters and switchable phantom power, while a variety of analog and digital outputs covers the gamut of currently popular destination cameras and devices. With its robust feature set and digital capabilities, Sound Devices' MixPre-D will make your life on location a little easier - and give you better audio.

Sound Devices knows what professional production mixers require in a field mixer, and has equipped the MixPre-D accordingly. Production sound can be unruly, and the MixPre-D's "unclippable" input peak limiters ensure usable sound under the most adverse conditions. The Mid-Side mic technique is widely used in broadcast TV and radio production, and the MixPre-D's onboard MS matrix lets you record in stereo with the flexibility of changing the stereo perspective later on. Small but important details such as a slate microphone and tone oscillator mark the MixPre-D as a serious tool for professionals. If you're a pro production mixer, you need one.

Truly Professional part II

There is one downside to this unit. The XL-CAM Camera Mount Bracket does not come with the MixPreD. It costs an extra $100. But the bracket allows you to place your camera on top of the MixPre-D, which makes for a useful configuration.

Truly professional

I use a Nikon D810 for video recording. Earlier I used a Beachtek DXA-SLR preamp for sound, but was unsatisfied with all the "air noise" that I was getting. I was also unhappy that I could not listen to audio on playback. That is not a problem with the MixPre-D. Plus you are able to listen to playback with a push of the button (just connect a male mini stereo plug from the MixPre-D Tape Return to the headphone jack of the camera; then press the "headphone controller" button on the MixPre-D). With the MixPre-D I get nothing but pure sound from my shotgun mic (I use the Schoeps CMIT 5U shotgun mic mic which is very pricey, but VERY good).

Awesome little mixer

After using the Sound Devices 442 and 302 in film school, I knew that when I bought my own mixer I would be buying Sound Devices. Despite this being the least expensive of the Sound Devices Mixer line, this is a powerful little thing. The preamps are clean even when turned all the way up, it's easy to use, and it's built like a tank. Also because it's so small I can use it as a preamp and headphone monitor when I boom op for friends. I also have to say that Sweetwater service is excellent. Once all of my friends graduate and I can't bum school equipment off of them anymore I'm coming straight here!

Made for HDSLR video

This is a great 2 channel preamp field mixer that was designed for HDSLR video. When used with the camera mount (sold separately), you direct your production with FULL control of what audio you're feeding the camera. The only thing your audio guy has to do is to place the boompole appropriately and nothing else. It has so many useful features, but I liked the fact that just 2 AA's run the whole show, ergonomically well designed, has phantom power available for both channels, and a slate mic and tone oscillator make this a dream come true for the 1-man-indie-filmmaker.
