Great piece

Works well very sturdy very quite

Simple and Clean

By Sweetwater Customer on January 31, 2024 Music Background: Audio Engineer

I got this to replace my old Mackie 1402, which was overkill for what I needed. All the same inputs and outputs from the old board are here with the same low noise profile and a feeling of ruggedness that you would expect. It has some more plastic on it than my old Mackie, but for desktop use is more than enough. I would not hesitate to take this on a gig where it would not be treated too harshly.

Small but potent

By Mike Ciarlante from Poconos on October 17, 2023

I can't believe how small this is but great it works!!!

Sweet mixer

By Richard Tim aka. DJ Rich from Bronx NY on August 25, 2023 Music Background: Mobile DJ

So when my friends come over for a mixer, they did not expect what I was saying lol, it was dinner music provided with my mackie subs, 15 inch, mic's up and all passing through this device, percise sound and EQ for best sound quality.
This Mackie 8 is great and compact, got some events coming up and will definitely being using it

It's a dandy

By Shall from Springdale, Washington on June 11, 2022 Music Background: My music is a mission, not a business.

I read the worst reviews. If you want top drawer mic preamps for your $1k microphone and $100 6' low capacitance air-free cable, then you might not be happy with a $99 mixer and why are you shopping for one? But I use one of these as stage amplification between my TC Helicon Live Acoustic and chs 3/4 of my UA Volt476. I use the other one as final stage output monitoring before my monitors or PA (sometimes post BBE 882i) and as a headphone amplifier for my Beyer Dynamics 600 ohm headphones, none of which require elite microphone preamps and all of which that benefit from two $99 mixers that happen to respect balanced inputs and balanced outputs at primarily +4dbu signal levels. I make them switch jerseys to be sure either one can fill in for the other in a pinch. My 16ch Yamahas don't fit in a hardware store bucket. The Mix8 is clear, quiet and clean and a guest player will do fine with the mono XLR inputs.

Great Little Mixer!

By Ernie G. from Branson, MO on May 28, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician

This mixer packs a bunch of great features in such a small little package. This mixer has been perfect for my duo gigs playing live with a couple of mics and an acoustic guitar. I love that it has an aux channel for a monitor. It fits perfectly in my gig bag! It sounds great and is very quiet (low noise). Don't know what else to say, other than it just works!

Great mixer

By g powell on May 22, 2021

So far it has been a great mixer. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Would be much better with an on/off switch. I mean, how much does a switch cost? Other than that, it works.

Seniors First

By david irle from EVANS, WA on April 25, 2021 Music Background: Self taught Guitar karaoke pro. ( I play along, hahahaha)

The Mackie Brand is one I can trust! I purchased this one ( I own 3 ) for the Senior center
Arts and Education Department. During COVID the Performers are OUTSIDE and the Seniors inside
enjoying a live performanc. All we do is run cables through a small window (cleaning the cables as we do so),
Plug and Play. Fun for all. The only down side is the Seniors get ROOTBEER FLOATS and we have to watch!! Hahahaha
I purchased a ProFx22 for my new home studio. And a ProFx 12 for the road.
Loads of options, clean sounds, recording, they will not fail.

Great Little Mixer

By Tom from Way North Wisconsin on January 19, 2021 Music Background: Weekend Musician for 45+ years

Very versatile! I've bought one to mix my keyboards on stage. I now use it to drive headphones for silent practicing. I mix keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, and recordings. Works so good, I bought one for each of my 2 sons.

Mackie Mix 8-channel compact mixer

By Aaron Sparks from IL on November 20, 2020

I love how if you want to use it for playing along to your play list you can or if you want to plug a beat production product and make your own songs you can, the possibilities are endless you can even mic your drums up to it and play them to your favorite songs it's the best thanks Jon Krempel for suggesting this solution to my arsenal.

Best mixer under $... hands down

By Gustuf Y from Fort Worth, TX on November 10, 2020 Music Background: Producer/Synth Player

I don't need to comment on Mackie's build quality here - you know it's good. If you need a mixer for a small setup (especially a DJ) this is the best bang for your buck.

For $... you get:
- Sturdy metal chassis. This thing is solid and hefty. This thing will last you. Hell you might give it to your kids someday.
- Portability. Great form factor and it's perfect for gig and traveling musicians/producers.
- Clean inputs and signal paths. Using an Elektron Model Cycles and a synthesizer on this added no noise to the mix and didn't muffle or distort signals.
- Smooth 3-band EQ that is particularly smooth on the lowpass (making it great for signal tweaks live).
- Volume meter on the right ensures you aren't brickwalling/peaking/overloading a setup. It's not idiot-proof but Sweetwater has a guide that breaks mixers down easy if you don't get it.
- 8 inputs total if you go mono, up to 3 channels stereo. Also returns for effects and independent outputs for headphones, making it great for bedroom/garage producers.

Excellent mixer. It doesn't feel cheap and it sounds clean. Worth every penny.

Also a shoutout to Mark - his customer service was excellent and this level of service is why I only buy from Sweetwater. I didn't get paid to say that - though i do get all my sweet gear from them.

Loving it!

By Ethan Uno from San Diego, California on September 21, 2020 Music Background: Artist, Producer

Using my Mackie Mix8 to bring together a few hardware synths, and a microphone. It has been perfect for the job so far! Thanks sweetwater for your great service as always!

Service and Product

By RCA from Houston, Tx on June 5, 2019 Music Background: 25 years of spreading love

Sweetwater service strikes again and they are the best! The 5 stars is for SW service.
The Mix8 operates correctly, but the sound quality/clarity is just ok (3 star).. I purchased it for simple/smaller gigs and a backup to my Bose Tonematch mixer. I already marked it up with a sharpie, so it's mine.
You get what you pay for, so next time I'll make the correct decision..

Great for pedalboard mixing!

By Izzy from Minnesota on May 16, 2019 Music Background: Sax, Flute, Harmonicas, Electric Violin gigging since 1992

I bought one of these used, and it's been perfect for my stereo pedalboard! The effects run in the loop. Small, lightweight. Replaced a much more expensive Allen & Heath mini mixer I was using.

Mackie Mix8 8-channel Compact Mixer

By Paradox (Dr. Timothy Sharer) from Wayne, Nebraska on April 10, 2019 Music Background: Ph.D. music/performer/conductor/studio teacher

I perform in a vocal/guitar duo using a small 2-channel powered speaker. We often played with two microphones but were relegated to transport 2 guitar amps or try to play acoustic guitars loud enough to balance out the singing. With the purchase of the Mix8, we can now use not only the 2 microphones (each in its own channel) but also now each of us can use both acoustic and electric guitars for our gigs. This powered mixer with (phantom power option) allows us to use our better condenser microphones and when we use our Mic Mechanics (phantom power is built into the Mic Mechanic )we merely turn off the Mix8 phantom power. We love this addition to our "light equipment" lineup and can't believe what we got...

The Mackie mix 8 mixer. Delivers a clean sound.

Mackie 8 channel

By Sweetwater Customer on May 2, 2020

Good product for the price. It does everything I want it to and sounds pretty good as well. The effects are not very dynamic or deep but I don't feel that as important in my application.

Overall, very good

By Michael on October 9, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist clarinetist, video production, and podcasting

This Mix 8 has been fantastic so far. Preamps are quiet, offer 50 dB of gain, and have had no issues. Aux send is mono, left channel only, which may be worth nothing for anyone needing both channels. Build quality is awesome and the form factor is hard to beat. In general, definitely worth the money.

Mackie Mix8

By Sweetwater Customer on February 28, 2018

The Mackie Mix8 is small but has enough features that you can still do all the mix for small venues and home studio. It works great for my home studio with enough eq ability to help shape the mix. I"m not a wiz at mixing so I don"t have a lot of techie things to say about it but that"s the point I guess, you don"t have to be a mixing pro to work this. Simple and easy to use.

Love me some Mackie

Sounds good

By Buddy on May 31, 2017

Looks good - Sounds good

Does the job

By Sweetwater Customer on May 29, 2015

This is exactly what I needed for a small role in my home studio. It does the job and the price made this an easy choice. Nice to see Mackie competing for the lower range against companies trying to eat Mackie's lunch with knock-off products.

Nice mixer

By John Six from COLUMBUS, OH on February 13, 2024 Music Background: Bass player, sound person.

I needed a small mixer so I could play my bass along with music from the computer.
This mixer works perfectly for that. I was surprised how quiet it is.
Nothing else to say except in real world conditions this is only a 4 channel mixer with 2 XLR inputs.
Stereo mix on one channel is still one channel, not 2.

MACKIE Mix8 - 8 CHANNEL MIXER

By Ken Chovan from Wisconsin on November 7, 2023

Although it's a bit more than I needed for my simple needs, it works cool. I plug in two microphones to get the most out of my Fishman 60 watt amp (previously reviewed); and it's a breeze to use. No need for stereo, but mono is fine for me. Now, I can have two microphone in and one out to the amp; and adjust volume, tone as needed. Don't forget to order adapter cord - one end in for XLR mic' to 1/4" input to amp, if that's your need.

Good unit for just what I wanted, for my limited purpose. And of course it mixes more inputs than I needed.
But for you, might be just what you need. Of course it comes with an AC/DC adapter cord. Maybe I'll use another Mic' input if I ever get kinda proficient on the Tenor Sax again. Ordered about six months ago.

Tech' Andrew helped out with some technical details. Thank you, again, Sweetwater, for the fine service and splendid support!

It works

Actually just needed two microphone inputs and a main out. But it works. The price is reasonable. And Sweetwater is always just in time. That works too.

Mackie Mix8, Great Little Mixer!

By Robert S. Ingram on April 2, 2023 Music Background: Retired after 50+ years working musician

For 99 bucks, it's hard to beat! Unfortunately, it doesn't like being next to my Tiny Terror. The end caps are plastic, unlike the metal endcaps my Mackie 1202VLZ I used to have. The lack of shielding on the ends allows the Tiny Terror to generate considerable noise in the mixer. I will make an attempt to improve the shielding in the mixer. If I'm successful, I will add another post. Other than this, it works well, has decent mic preamps for the price, useful EQ, and is OK for all other aspects. I like it and I'm keeping it!

Good mixer but not enough

By Cal Jennings from Friendswood, TX on June 24, 2022 Music Background: Trumpet, guitar, and a little keyboard

It was a good little mixer but I needed something that had a better connection for sending to and from the computer. I upgraded to a USB mixer. The mic preamps were very nice though.

Works O.K.

By Stanley from North Kingstown, RI on June 28, 2020 Music Background: more than 5 years doing live sound recording and reinforcement

We have a minimum room sound system in our church. I needed a 3-channel mixer for church services to feed the sound to our macbook for on-line services.
This did the job inexpensively

Does the JOb

By Sweetwater Customer on May 13, 2019

It does what it should. I just use it for line-level sources so don't care about the preamps. I had first bought a Behringer with similar specs, but the power connector at the back was some oddball kind and not stable. I returned it and ordered this one (without hassle - thank you Ashton & Sweetwater). The Mackie has a standard connector and stays connected.

Mackie Mix 8

By Dick Mayborn from Inglis. Florida on August 31, 2018 Music Background: Music teacher

It"s so early for me to say yet because I haven"t used it at a gig yet. But it seems rat so fare, it do what it suppose to do!

Meets my need

By Edward P. from Washington State on October 19, 2015 Music Background: varied vocal, piano, harmonica

This is a basic mixer. It meets my needs for my small, non-recording, home studio. We make music for our own enjoyment and rehearsing for a few gigs. This mixer allows me to hook up my wife's vocal mic and acoustic guitar, my harmonica mic, and my iPad for backing tracks. At home we run it to a little Roland Street Cube amp. For gigs, we hook up everything, including the keyboard, to a Fender Passport 300 Pro PA system......a very good sound system for our needs, primarily small to mid sized venues. The mixer pretty much stays at home. If you are looking for simple, this will do the job pretty nicely.

Great Mixer for the dough....

By Sweetwater Customer on April 13, 2023 Music Background: long time professional musician

I love the options this mixer gives.
The build quality is suspicious, but its a mackie so I still trust it will work well at least for a few years.
My biggest gripe is that it doesn't have a power button, which is irritating.
For the money, there is not a better small mixer option on the market with the same flexibility.

My bigger complaint which has nothing to do with the Mix8, is that I can't find a mixer with a similar foot print and the same options/flexibility as the MIx8 but with better build quality and mic preamps etc....

I'd happily pay other ~$ for that piece.

Come on Mackie, you can do it!

Decent for the price, but be careful

By Michael on June 23, 2020 Music Background: Classical clarinetist

I purchased a Mix 8 in September of last year. I had it on top of a music stand for months with no issues, but it took a short bump off the stand overnight and when I used it the next day, it had a ground loop. I was able to get a replacement unit which is on a much more stable stand. This new unit has been fine for months, but the second XLR channel now has a bit of noise that's hard to explain. Not a ground loop since it's a higher frequency, but a buzz nonetheless. As the title says, okay for the price, but you have to be careful with the durability of this guy.

Pros:
Clean preamps
Small form factor
Aux send (mono)

Cons:
Very fragile
No power button
Works cleanly for a few months, then gets noise in a channel randomly

I think for the price you get what you pay for

Noisy

By Sweetwater Customer on May 22, 2023

It works, but it is very hissy

bad preamps

By Scott from Brooklyn on February 3, 2016

Within a few months of purchase, all 4 preamps make a scratchy noise when turning the pots. Spend the extra money and get the mackie VLZ series, 2 of which i own (4 channell and 24 channel) and have held up much better over time.

Not rugged like the box says!

By Scotty MacBlane from Severance, Colorado on February 8, 2021 Music Background: 60 years musician / 40 years Audio/Video Engineer

Plugged it in for the first time, seemed OK. Broke it out again and it started frying eggs and crackliong and popping. Tried it again and seemed to work fine. unplugged it one more time then plugged it in at the mixer (there is no on off switch. Tried it many different outlets then it started crackling and popping again with nothing plugged into the inputs. Last time I plugged it in at the mixer it sparked and gave me a shock. Put it back in the box and going back to Sweetwater.
I haven't heard back from them yet but Ive done close to 23 K in business with them over the last 15 years and they have been great. I expect it will be made right, I love Sweetwater for their customer service. Too bad; this mixer looked like just what I needed.
