My Ears Hurt

By Jill T.
Music Background: Decade-long bassist, months-long guitarist

Got this because it was cheap and had good reviews. It was good for when I was a major beginner, but now I have to crank the volume just to hear my guitar over the random radio channel it picks up. Tried covering it with aluminum foil to shield it, but it got WORSE somehow. I'm throwing this thing away while I've still got half-decent hearing.

Fender is missing a few things...

By Asher from Chicago
Music Background: Musician, Producer, Engineer

These little mini amps are so darn good!

Fender needs to add a 1/4" speaker output with the balanced 1/8" or 1/4" headphone outputs- so that these mini amps can be used as PREAMPS and deployed more effectively with an external cabinet (or to be used as FX processors)

I love having this handy- perfect for getting out ideas on the fly, and even better for recording crunchy tones. The tone on these little speakers is incredible...

my biggest issue??? It's so lightweight that it's basically guaranteed to move while you're recording it... so it loses a few points for inconvenience, considering you have to get a little creative so that it doesn't move around. Nothing that a little bit of gaffers tape can't fix.

It's one of the few products that I love so much that I wish they would add MORE connectivity to it! By simply adding a speaker output, this would be perfect. For now, it's just "excellent"...

Mini Amps Rule

By Dave R. from New Tripoli, PA
Music Background: Non-Professional Player

Love the Fender Mini Amp. The 9V power source is the way to go. Very happy with purchase. I rarely can give a 5 star rating to anything. How do I know if the product is the best that can be?

Have fun, and think outside the box!

By Asher M. from CHICAGO, IL
Music Background: Wearer of many hats

Are mini guitar amps good for actual guitar amplification? Not really... You'll just have issues with the tiny speakers... depending on how clever you are.... but hooooooo-boy do they have some serious potential when used as processors, like a fuzz pedal or a sansamp (preamp), or when miked up in an isolation booth.

Having the 1/8" output means you can choose between the built-in speaker(s), or the headphone output, basically using the preamp like a pedal or processing unit. THIS is where magic starts.

For a super lofi "strokes" type of sound (this type of vocal processing is more versatile than you'd think): I split my vocal mic into two signals, and send the second signal into the mini amp. It's the best vocal distortion I've ever heard - it has tons of its own character and almost feels like it's to be played like an instrument, especially when you send balanced (already amplified) signal through it. The dynamics and intensity while playing around with the proximity effect on the mic becomes straight magical for vocalists. It's like hearing a record, rather than a recording. (You must use a cheap or "bad" mic to get the right sound. I use a Pyle 57 clone. Its garbage and its incredible for the task).

I mostly use this one as a processor, though the built-in speakers sound really cool in a recording setting, or just when your ears are pretty close to the speakers.. I imagine integrating these into a live rig (for guitars and/or vocals) would yield some seriously cool sounds, basically using it as an effects processor.

TIP: using the "headphone" output of the mini amp, plug into your DAW (or mixer) via a 1/8" TRS cable and be sure to use a 1/4" TS adaptor going into your DAW/mixer. This is going to give you a very hot, very clean signal for guitar or vocals. In theory, you could make a whole album worth of guitar sounds with just a bit of ingenuity and a few of these lil toys... and I don't mean just grit. It has a ton of potential as a "sansamp".

Practice AMP

By Ann M. from Boston
Music Background: Beginner guitarist

It is good for practicing with or without earphone. It's easier to tune the guitar when a tuner app can pick up the sound. It's nice to let people hear your progress as well without bothering the neighbors.

Awesome amp!

By Jeremy L.
Music Background: 25 years of music

I've had this little guy well over 1 years now and still love it. Sounds great, perfect for quiet home jamming but can crank up loud enough for acoustic sets. Playing around with the controls gives a nice variety of sounds from clean, thick neck tone, and decent gain.

Far exceeded my expectations

By Bob M. from Pacific NW on a boat
Music Background: amateur violinist

This is a really small unit.. I was surprised. I wasn't expecting much (I bought it for its price and for the ability to play my electric violin quietly if I wanted)... I was blown away- this thing is fun! I wish it included a 110v power supply and I had to go find/buy the correct cord to get it all plugged in... the only thing you get is the amp and a battery. For the price, that's all good!

Disappointing

By Matthew H. from WI
Music Background: Intermediate guitarist

I bought this amp because it was really cheap and had good reviews. But all I hear coming out of the thing is radio, static, and buzzing. I haven't found a place in my house where it doesn't make these sounds. No one else seems to be having this issue. I bought a pretty high quality cord, so I know that is not the issue. My only idea as why this interference happens is that the radio tower near my house is causing it, though the tower is 5 miles away. I would recommend this amp if you're on a shoestring budget. I would not recommend this if you live in an area that may cause interference, like a city.

I am in love with this amp

By Prerna

This amp is so cute and a perfect size. It sounds so clear there's no buzzing noises. I highly recommend this amp to anyone that is beginner. The appearance is 10/10 the sound is 10/10. ...with a 2 year warranty you seriously cannot go wrong. I purchased the guitar chord separately… but again I'm so happy I decided on this amp. It also comes with a batter which is so thoughtful. I however Also ordered a 9v dc power chord so that I don't have to buy batteries which is a good idea for anyone interested!! I've discovered sweetwater a while ago but this was my first purchase and so now I know where to go for my instrument needs!

Fun, Compact, Decent sounding mini amp.

By Charlie M. from Ohio
Music Background: Greatly underpaid musician

I had a few minor issues with this amp right out of the box. First, one of the speakers had popped out of its mount. May have been caused from some rough handling in the warehouse, or during shipping. Wasn't a big deal, I just unscrewed the back, put the speaker back in place, and reassembled it. The other issue was the knob for the on/off function was extremely hard to turn. It caused the little plastic knob cover to crack and fall off. It just took some playing around with to loosen it up, and I super glued the plastic knob back on. Works fine now. Other than those two minor issues, the amp itself is fun. If you keep the gain at 1, and the volume around 12 o'clock, you can get a really nice clean sound. Perfect for small room practicing, or taking with you on the road. It's battery powered, so you could even play in the car during road trips. I bought it for my daughter, so she had something small to start with while she is learning guitar, but I do find myself playing around with it as much as she does. Definitely worth the cost. Sounds good, travel friendly. Lot of fun to be had with it.

Amazing little "toy"

By Rob P. from Mineral Bluff, GA
Music Background: Former rock & current bluegrass player

Considering the size of this amplifier, it sounds great. I bought it so that I could sit back in my easy chair, plug in a head set, and play to my heart's content. This amplifier meets all of my expectations.

mini Tone Master

By joe e. from austin,texas
Music Background: semi-pro

I bought this amp so I could sit in my garage and smoke and jam. for this, it works great. it's a toy, but a fun toy. nasty sounding bugger, but a little knob twisting produces a couple nice sweet spots. mike it up to record and look out! a little delay and my old modded wah pedal makes a great, rude sounding tone source for recording. yep.
