Great, GREAT For The Elderly

By John C. from Plano, TX
Music Background: Started guitar and drums in 1959...gigging since 1963...switched to bass in 1992. Now 62 years on stage.

I used to haul around full bass stacks but at 77, that's not possible. I have the original VR head with two 210 cabs for 200W output. Total weight...50 pounds for the full stack. Forget carrying around 95 pound cabs at my age. This is PERFECT for smaller venues...need more? DI to the board. Not a full spectrum amp but great for what it does and the ease of transport. Highly recommended.

Little amp with big sound!

By Nick T. from Texas
Music Background: Bass guitar, Guitar

I ordered this amp to use for small gig's around town and I have really been impressed with it. It has enough power to cut through and be well heard with two guitars and a drums. I play mostly rock and southern rock and really love the classic sound of Ampeg!

I did have an issue come up during a practice. I started hearing a really bad crackling and distorted sound. I believe it was a loose ground in the cab. I contacted the support team at Sweetwater and they were extremely helpful! Colin English and Derrick Carnley were quick to help me troubleshoot and get a new cabinet sent to me within just a couple of days. I was very impressed with the customer service and am happy to have my rig back up and running like new. Thank you to the whole team for all the support!

Great tone, Great price

By R.W. from Brownsboro, AL

At this price point, it can't be beat. I was looking for something to cart to practices and small gigs other than the VT-22 cab at 90 lbs. I prefer the Ampeg tone, and this fits the bill. I received on a Friday and played a small show with it the next day. It was an outdoor gig and I was concerned how the sound would carry, so I just mic'd it through the PA. Love the look and sound of the mini-cab. And as always, Sweetwater customer service delivered.

Ampeg CL 2x10 100 Watt

By KD from WEST
Music Background: classic 70's to 90's rock

I liked the sound and portability of this rig, but after 2 years of practice one day a week one of the speakers blew out. We only play at a volume that is fairly low (volume knob on 3 to 4). Trying to find a replacement speaker that will work. Or I might possibly get rid of this rig completely.

Micro stack,Big sound!

By Henry L. from San Antonio
Music Background: Rock n Roll

I am totally happy with this Micro CL Stack. Not only does it sound great with that classic Ampeg tone and growl I love ,but it also is pack to the gills with features such as line out,and send/return loop for effects. Plus my Sweetwater Rep and his team shipped it off right away so I got it a day earlier that the ETA date. This product is worth every penny, and I highly recommend it.

Bass amp that goes B-O-O-M!

By Mark from New Orleans area
Music Background: none

I'm a newbie to playing bass guitar but have over 25yrs of car audio subwoofers so I know bass & IDK what the hell all the reviewers are saying this thing won't go BOOM because it will. Even at #5 w/ the EQs all set at halfway & my guiter vol the same a deep E will almost shake my small room's windows. Since I don't have any 8ohm guitar amp experience I shudder to think what a full sized 1000 watt 'real' amp would sound like???

Great sounding little amp

By Richard N. from Gardnerville, NV

Recently purchased an Ampeg Micro CL from Sweetwater. I write and record music. I researched quite a few smaller bass amps, decided on this one because of the Ampeg reputation, and the price. I would now buy it again in a heartbeat after hearing it and playing with it for a while. Well made, solid, simple and puts out a sound that is clear, punchy, and full. Loud enough to play selected gigs, clean enough for quality recording. You won't find one better in this price range.

Cool Concept Falls Short

By Benton

The idea of having a small ampeg was awesome to me. This thing had some good power but the tone was so fuzzy it sounded like a threw the bias out of wack on a fuzz pedal. Not a horrible amp but would recommend spending the extra money on the Micro VR or getting a mini cab from a different manufacturer

Great Tone

Doesn't get better than this when it comes to practicing in the basement. Surprised at how authentic the tone sounded.

I’ve been led astray

By Lee A. from Atlanta, GA

How have I lived 42 years on this mortal coil without experiencing the sheer joy of an Ampeg bass amp?! This small but mighty combo is the best of both worlds. Whether you need a living room practice amp, or an amp for band practice/small gigs, this amp has you covered! The aux jack is perfect for plugging in your phone to jam along with drum tracks and the headphone jack is perfect for practicing without annoying the neighbors! Great amp all around!

For the past few years, my sales engineer was Cassie O'Hanlon and I was kinda sad to find out that she was moving on. Cassie carefully picked my new sales engineer, Darcee Berg, and I'm beyond happy with my new account rep. Darcee kept me informed every step of the way and went out of her way to land me on the perfect amp! I look forward to many more orders with my new sales engineer, Darcee!

Big sound takes up little space

By Glen B. from VA
Music Background: Gigged as a teen now I'm a punk rocking metal head who plays the Blues

I bought this amp as a practice amp to learn bass on. I knew it wouldn't take up alot of space so I gave it a try. The sound samples sounded good but I was impressed when I turned it on. It had a deep vintage tone that I was not expecting from a micro. The 100w combined with the 2 x 10 cab gives an impressive amount of volume. And it looks good

Micro stack

By Mike R. from Mississippi
Music Background: Guitar and bassist, 45 years.

Always wanted to try one of these as I like the Classic black look better but I have the SVT blue silver version micro with 2 cabinets =4-10's. The head is 300 watt and killer. I've used it for an outdoor pool party gig and it kept up with a Fender Deluxe and Champion 100 on each side, drummer behind me. It's my "go to" tone. The CL would be good as well for what it is but if you want more, get a second speaker cab or go with the SVT version. The portability and hauling is the best part about these micro rigs.

Exactly What I Expected

By Dan from Middlebury
Music Background: Bass, guitar

If you don't understand the Ampeg Sound, this amp may not be for you. But if you grew up with it, know it, and grasp that, this is a great amp. First, as many have said it's a lot louder than is looks. It is a great practice amp, and will keep up with most bands pretty easily BUT it has the Ampeg sound, growl, dirt, grit, meaty tone. Not clean at louder volumes okay? Don't expect it to be. Above 4 , which is stupid loud already, the grit kick in. This amp pretty easily could power a larger cabinet, and I may try it with my Markbass 115 to see that, but I have no doubt. Yes, you can gig with most bands with this, unless you are hard core metal, punk, or just obnoxious with volume on stage. No, it won't keep up with my MarkBass 210 and 115 rig, but it's also less than a quarter of the price. If you like basic control, good volume, and a cool retro look, this little amp rocks. It has enough features to practice and record with, but not too many knobs or weight to get in the way. Honestly just understand what what this is and you won't be a negative Nancy,

Perfect for my music room

By Mike t. from Albuquerque
Music Background: Semi-pro bassist

I put this in my music room for practices with my bands. It's a great looking amp, yes, but it also sounds great. It has the Ampeg grit, something I didn't expect from this little thing. It has plenty of power for my use; in fact, it's loud enough that I could even consider using it in a small gig. If it's not big enough, it still has a 1/4" out to plug into the board. Because this is more to carry, and heavier, I would be more likely to use my Fender Rumble amp for the gigs, but I couldn't be happier with the way it fits at home.

WOW

By Nathan L. from EVANSVILLE, IN
Music Background: At home player for several years.

Just purchased this amp and WOW. First let me say the customer service is great. Fast responses to any questions you may have. New to bass guitar. Have been playing electric guitars for several years. I am playing a Jackson cbxnt4 in B standard. This little amp picks up every note while sounding great. I only have the volume on 2. It rumbles. Once I break the speakers in I will venture to 4 or 5. I will probably rattle some nails out in my roof. Great quality and price for at home playing. From my experience so far this would likely have no problems keeping up with a full band at a small venue.

Buyer beware

By William F. from TX

This little amp/speaker combo was great when it first arrived. It sounded wonderful. Then about 2 months after the warranty ended, the head went out... completely. It sounds like you're using a broken cable. No notes, just buzzing. Tried multiple speaker cables and even a different speaker cabinet, always with the same result. As I said, it worked great for 2 years then turned into the world's biggest paperweight.

This thing is an absolute BEAST

By Anthony from Michigan
Music Background: I play in a punk/pop punk band. Been playing for 15 years!

I picked this up to have a good practice amp at home, and it ended up replacing my Fender Bxr 1x15 as my main rehearsal and gigging amp. Don’t let the size or the naysayers tell you otherwise. I have played 5 different clubs with it so far, and It is plenty loud for gigging. It keeps up with two guitarists plus a drummer and singer. I play a Fender Precision very aggressively with a pick, and haven’t ever had it past 4. It might not be for everyone but it is PERFECT for what I call the pang and clank sound. The guys in my band prefer it’s sound over my Fender Bxr as well. It is also very lightweight and makes load in and loud out a breeze. Cab in one hand, head in the other and gig bag slung across my bag all in one trip. I would definitely recommend to anyone who has an aggressive playing style looking for a mean sound.

Here's why you need an SVT

By Peter J. from San Francisco, CA

When you first crank this mini-fridge up, you might be underwhelmed: it just does this fairly clean tone with a few simple tone adjustments. There's a 1/4" line out (pre-FX loop, you could also Y-out within your loop as I do) but no DI as such, and a single 8 ohm speaker out. Thankfully for recording there's no fan. Otherwise not much other than aux in and headphone out (mutes speakers).

So why not get say the Fender Rumble 100 instead? Or the Behringer with the effects or some modelling amp? Clearly, you need to understand the point of the SVT.

OK play a pattern really fast on your lowest string. Can you hear the notes separated or do they mush together?

Aha. Aha. On this amp and SVT's in general you can hear them all. Clearly. Tight with enormous punch. You will want a compressor pedal until you've trained yourself to ride that punch like a bucking bronco. This is not available on other amps at this price or even higher.

But that's not all. Does your amp dominate like a huge mean dog? Barking, growling, snarling, biting, and woofing with terrifying authority? Probably not, but an SVT does. Your amp might just fall over and distort instead.

It might take you a few years to realize this. There are people who hate Ampeg for who knows why. But the SVT and Portaflex are really the only two legendary bass amps for good reason (the original Bassman is only known as a guitar amp).

What is the main problem with this mini-fridge? The speakers are way under-spec for how much power the head can put out, and can easily be blown. Use this cab for recording and practice, and learn how to avoid sending spikes down the line. Plug the same head into a 4x10 8 ohm to keep up with a drummer and heavy guitars and you'll be fine.

Perfect for my application

By Terry F. from Saint Marys, Georgia
Music Background: Songwriter, original and cover band work.

I recently got the Micro-CL 100 watt stack. I"m very pleased with the sound and simplicity of this stack. I"ve got limited space in my home studio and I occasionally gig on bass. I get a great sound without breaking my back carrying heavy combos. The line out and effects loop allow all the flexibility I need and, it looks good too!

Not for gigs up front.

By RockinRich from Kc

It is for personal use at home shared environment so, loud overall sound will not be the target. Low ampeg tone that won't bother others yet, true as you can get to Ampeg sound was the point of this. I have bought this for when I was in the city close neighbors, now I live in the outer burbs oh yes give me my 4x10 cab etc.

Ampeg bass stack

By Dave from Reno NV

This bass stack is fantastic. It"s incredibly easy to use and very flexible. I use it for quiet practice at home with headphones, a bit louder practice at home when the wife"s gone, practice with the band (where you need something with it"s sound power), and gigs where it"s easy to run as a bass speaker as well as send to the board. Very happy. The sound is fantastic

Great Tone, Great Price, Loud Sound.

By Rex from Minnesota

This amp is amazing. Took a matter of a minute to recreate my tone from my other bass amp. (Rumble 200) I believe this amp has way better sounds than that amp. Just a blast to play this amp. Plus that fact that that thing is loud. 100 Watts seems a lot louder with this amp. I never even have to go 3 on the volume and be extreme loud. Looking forward to do a show with this amp. Plus the great front headphone/aux panel, plus aux volume control. Not a single thing wrong with this amp. My Duff McKagan signature bass sound even better through this amp (Didn't know the bass could get better) Get this amp today!

Great service and great equipment

By Jerry from Louisiana
Music Background: Played bass since high school. 1 st band in highschool ened up becoming the Subdudes, based mainly out of Colorado I think.

I called in about a week ago and happened to get Jason on the phone. Being an old school rock bass player I had a few questions about this new stuff. Jason was very knowledgeable and help me out alot. He also checked the stock and made sure the amp I wanted for my granddaughter ( who is an up and coming bassist ). So after all was said and done I got her the Ampeg Micro CL. Amazing how they get that.sweet.ampeg tone in a little box. SOI got excellent service and an excellent little amp. I'm happy and most importantly my granddaughter is happy. It sure is nice to do business with a store that actually cares about helping you out. I will more than likely be getting her.a.new bass in the near.future.

Jaw Dropping

By Ron from Pittsburgh
Music Background: Hard Rock, Metal, Pop, disco

Absolutely jaw dropping what this little rig can do. I've listened to a lot of other small combo bass amps and was not impressed. I ordered this without ever hearing it in person, and I hit the jackpot. Play with a Fender Jazz bass and darkglass alpha omega pedal and it's my go to live rig now. Even though it's only 100 watts it's loud enough to play with a band. Every one I show it to is blown away. Love it!

Wished I bought this thing First.

By RockinRich from Kansas city, KS
Music Background: Music, Hair-bands my sweet spot.

Had a couple of Ampeg amps all great but I wanted one that was right there great Sound, not blasting though. Had the 450 needless to say I barely played it past 1/4 up.then I got a 20 w ampeg and that was great sound for what it was but, not quite there on the punch. My next move should have been the First one.Live and Learn. I jam as a hobby. so at home it's great! Then last but, not least you add Sweetwater's professional assistance and patience with those picky buyers, (hahmm, me) . Helped me out even when I made the mistake and was having an anxiety moment. Joseph secu and his co workers were right on.

THE Bass Sound at a Great Price

By Greg M. from Clarkston, WA
Music Background: Amateur for life

I've been a Sweetwater customer for almost five years. In that time, Sound Engineer Tom Maxwell has handled each order with professionalism and an unequaled customer-service ethic. It means a lot to me that he's been such a consistent and reliable presence at Sweetwater, and it says a lot that he continues with Sweetwater. I like how this company takes care of its people. Having said that, Tom hooked me up with the bass amp I wish I'd gotten from the get-go. This micro-stack moves a lot air to transmit that Ampeg sound in a smaller, more manageable platform for practice and small-venue gigs. Unit construction is soundly sturdy, and the simple control layout is a must for players who don't like to fiddle with gear. This amp allows bassists plenty of sonic room to customize their sound and yet evoke classic tones to support any style of music. The sound remains clear even with controls cranked. If you like to play it loud without the grime, this amp is a great one for practice and performance in just about any small to medium-sized venue.

Poor Quality

By Chris from Wadsworth, OH USA
Music Background: Student/ Hobbyist

Yes, this particular stack is okay for practicing at home and to just mess around with. It actually plays music from my ipod really well. But as far as actual bass playing, this does not do well. If you even turn it up 1/4 of the way up, it gets very fuzzy and your tone is absolutely gone. I've gigged with it a few times, and every time, I was very unpleased. If you are looking for a speaker to play your ipod through, or just a practice amp. But if you're looking for a rig to use in a small gig, get something else. This just wasn't for me.

Baby SVT Stack

By Mark L. from Portland, Oregon USA
Music Background: Semi-Retired pro musician, Bassist, just learning recording engineer.

This little amp sounds very close to its bigger brother, at low volumes. For the size, and portability, this amp is killer. I've played through the full size SVT with the 8x10, 4x10 cabs for all of my career, and this is as close as it gets to emulating the sound the big SVT gets. A couple of things I don't like about this amp is, #1, 100 watts is way too much for the cab to handle, and #2, it would be great to have it switchable from 8ohms to 4ohms so it would match up to run my 4x10, or 8x10 cabs. It would be perfect for my 4x10 cab. Other than those little flaws, this Micro-CL Stack is ultra cool, very light weight, easy to move around. I would recommend this baby SVT to anyone that loves that classic AMPEG sound, in a smaller package.

I am a novice. I can tell you that years of seeing live events and hearing basses played through huge Ampeg stacks I wanted to try and see if I could get that sound in a smaller stack. Well I am blown away by the sound and the price. Now if I can learn to play the Bass and produce a sound this Ampeg is capable of creating I will be a happy man

Extremely pleased with the purchase of this rig. I have rocked an SVT-450 for years and needed something smaller for church. This was the perfect choice. Awesome Ampeg tone, with plenty of volume. Amazing

By Boom B. from NC
Music Background: Southern gospel, country, southern rock, playing 30 yrs

This Micro CL sounds much more powerful than 100 watts! Has an SVT punch to it without being too booming. I must state that I have the Micro VR as well and this 100 watts seems to be louder that the VR's 150 watts. I am very pleased with it. Also, I can't say enough about Sweetwater. Jason Baldwin was most helpful and knowledgeable. I ordered the CL about 6:00 PM on a Thurs and got it on Sat about 7:30PM with just regular shipping! Great amp! Great service!
