Perfect - Except for One Small Detail

By Guitar Quackery from NYC on January 9, 2024 Music Background: Guitar Repair Tech & Luthier

I had this guitar (customer owned) on my workbench. I examined the guitar thoroughly and did a full setup on it.

This guitar is really well built. I only found one small detail that opens an opportunity for improvement.

In my particular case, the owner of the guitar (i.e. my customer) wanted to use a heavy gauge string set, for alternate tuning. Heavier gauge strings require saddles to be moved further back, to dial in correct intonation. In my case I could not move the low E saddle far back enough to achieve correct intonation on the low E string. However, I was able to do a hack and make it work.

Other than that, the guitar is perfect. I also don't know how the guitar would behave with standard gauge strings. I just think that the designers didn't give it enough margin, for those players who wish use heavier gauge strings. But as you can see in my video, it is fixable.
