Does not fit diecast hoops
The clip does not open wide enough to fit on my Tama Starclassic diecast hoops.
Keep looking
The tighten screw kept getting stuck. Had to stop using this all together.
Avoid
Purchased 3 of these to use in a studio setting. The rubber separated at the isolation cylinders and rendered them useless for studio application. Also the clamp will not open enough to fit on the floor tom. Do not buy!
Poor Design
I purchased three of these clips and used them on my drums - snare, rack tom and floor tom. I was surprised one day when the mic on my floor tom fell off while still attached to half the clip. The other half of the clip was still attached to my floor tom. I looked closer at the "isolation cylinders" - the rubber gaskets connecting the two parts of the clip - and noticed that they are not physically attached to either side of the clip. There is just a metal nut that the rubber gasket is glued to with some kind of adhesive that did not hold for very long - in my case about eight months. This is not a good design and I wish I had spent a few extra bucks to get better quality clips.
Fell apart
There is nothing physically holding the mic stand to the clip except friction with the rubber standoff holes. Well, those holes quickly ream out and are too big to hold the stand. I'm literally super-gluing this as I write this. Not cool.
Poor construction
Purchased four of these to hold Audix drum mics. As another reviewer mentioned, they literally fall apart from the weight of the microphone and are thereby rendered useless.
comes apart
Like others have noted, this thing falls apart. No good.
Garbage
I have two MAJOR issues with this.
It holds the mic way to far forward over the drum.
And the two "shock absorbing" joints are just two soft rubber tubes slipped over some ridged nipples. THEY SLIP OFF WITH A LIGHT PUSH, dropping your mic to the floor.
For $ more, get the k&m 24030 drum mic holder. I have 4 of them. They are sturdy, and have plenty of movement for mic positioning. They've held up great for over a year now with no issues.
try something else
this mic mount made me realize you gotta have a light mic to mount to a drum rim. other wise, a mic stand or boom cant fail.had to throw this away because it malfunctioned and became unusable.
beat down !
I first got them (3) I noticed to get them on the rim was a little difficult. Then the way the tightener was not working right. But the second gig I was having a hard time getting it off the rim and the rubber spacers (inbetween) came apart.
I expect a lot out of On-Stage they have all ways made great stuff but this is a looser. I would not buy or recomend.
DO NOT BUY. Literally falls apart.
Everything about these clips is very well done, rugged and sturdy EXCEPT where the mic holder attaches to the clip itself. At first glance it appears to be screwed together with Phillips screws, but after only a few minutes of playing they literally FALL RIGHT OFF! It is only then you learn the Phillips screw heads are a deception. The two pieces are not screwed together at all but are merely just slid over some rubber tubing that does not hold at all. If they had just spent 5 more cents and used actual screws and bolted these two pieces together, instead of faux screws, they would be great mic clips. Everything else is seriously very well done. But it's all useless since they fall apart.
They do not fit Tama Star Classic rims
Bought these as a cheaper option to try out. I own and use several kits. These will not open up far enough to go on the hoops on the Tama kit. They will fit a Ludwig and PDP rim. Not really solid built but have held together and do a fair job of holding the Audix f10's in place. if it's all you can afford, go for it, if you can, step up the K&M clamps, they work much better.
To Small
Unfortunately this clamp does not fit on the Gretsch drum kit, not on any piece of the kit. It does however fit on Sonor Force 2000. Hope that helps other buyers
These things suck
I bought three and two were broken before sound check. I don't know why they think that some glued down rubber bushing on a sprocket is going to hold an sm57 on a snare drum. Complete joke of a product. Also, the screw in mic insert holder part gets stuck in the mic clip. I think it might be plastic even. Not sure, too busy in throwing them in the trash and breaking out some mic stands.
Falls when you look at it
The clip is weak and can barely hold any substantial microphone like a Senn 421. If you just barely knick it, the clip breaks free and the mic falls.
comes loose
These come loose constantly on me. They don't even get close into the postions I prefer either.
Not Universal
I had to return these because they wouldn't open enough to fit on my diecast rims. They fit fine on triple flange hoops. Strange that they wouldn't test them on all the major hoop types. All of Gretsch's high end drums come with diecast rims.
By the way, I'm a professional drummer of 15+ years. I've used a lot of gear. I don't think it was user error.
On-Stage Stands Mic Clip
I just switched from stands to clips and realized I should have done this a long time ago. The clips fit to the drums securely and quickly. They are more affordable than stands and they fit in my mixer bag nicely.
Definitely worth a try!!
Strips Quickly
When I attached it to a Yamaha Kit the holder was loose, so I tightened it more and it stripped within the first show! Your better off going with the K&M drum mic clip for a few extra bucks!
On-Stage Stands DM50, Right on the spot!
I was afraid at first, that it wouldnt work like I thought it would. But it got all the work done! It is right on the spot you need it to be. Sometimes you can find it hard to set up, such as really close to rim aplications, but once you set it up, you're ready to rock! Amazing!
Does not fit most toms
I just did sound for a festival. 15 bands. 15 drum kits. I bought 3 of these to put on toms. They fit on one drum set that had some other hardware (not the rim of the drum as pictured). Luckily I had enough boom stands. If the hook at the bottom could be extended by 1/2" they'd be great.
Fits Between Suspension Mounts
Maneuvers in between rim and suspension mounts on my Taye drums. Would be 5 stars if didn't take so long to attach. The screw takes a while.
Love a multi tasker
I got this for recording and live work to hold a CAD TSM411 mic on a snare drum which this does just fine. The mechanism will also mount on a mic stand so I am also using it to mount a pop screen on a goose neck in front of a LDC for recording and also to hold a SDC for singer songwriter vox/guitar work. I may need another soon.
