Hohner Marine Band 1896 Harmonica - Key of C
Hohner Marine Band 1896 Harmonica - Key of C Reviews
John Lennon, Paul Butterfield, Little Walter, Neil Young, and just about every serious musician who has played blues-style harp began with a Hohner Marine Band harmonica. Hohner spent more than 100 years perfecting this amazing little instrument, and when you cup one in your hand, it's easy to tell the difference between a Marine Band harmonica and the next best thing - the Marine Band harmonica just feels right. The number one choice of top professionals, this harmonica has a rich and expressive sound that defines what most people think of when they imagine the sound of a harmonica. When you pick up a Hohner Marine Band harmonica, you don't just open a door to a world of music, you grab a little piece of music history.
Right On
This Hohner Marine Band is the "exact" sound I was looking for.
Hohner 1896 Harmonica
I've been playing "Lee Oscar " Harps for years , good harps but made mostly out of plastic & they wear out very fast ! I switched to the "Hohner 1896 model and was amazed at the quality of workmanship and sound !! Thanks " Sweetwater" !!!!!
My bf loves it!
This hermonica is SUCH good quality! My bf has already learned a song with it. Also customer service is top notch, so attentive and helpful!
Can't Go Wrong!
Nice sounding harmonica! Feels well-put-together! Equally amazing is the selection of harmonicas & ease of buying from Sweetwater. Thanks to Ian Chamberlain for making it seamless!!!
Classic!
I'm no expert, just play a bit on long drives. This harp has always been the defining sound to my ear, like a Ludwig Supraphonic is to snare drums. I have a Lee Oskar direct competitor which is noticeably thinner in sound to the Hohner. I have a Special 20 as well that sometimes seems a bit richer, depending on the room.
But the Marine Band has never disappointed. Don't feel the need for a higher-end model; this does great.
I can't put it down!
Its a fine instrument, i have killed so many hours of boredom, and gained a greater respect for musicians, i love this Harmonica.
Marine Band
Thank you Matt!

Nothing Beats a Classic.
buen trabajo!

Excellent quality and value
This harp sounds as great as it looks, and feels solid in the hand. It's clear that this is a high quality piece of gear, and that will just make you want to play it even more.
quality product
Bought this for my first harmonica. Sweetwater always has great product information to help you decide between instruments/gear. I already had an idea of what I wanted, but it was easy to further compare products on Sweetwater's site. Nate called me within 2 hours of my purchase to see what questions I had, etc. he confirmed when my harmonica would be shipped and gave me a delivery date. As usual, my gear arrived ahead of schedule. The harmonica itself is rock solid. Great tone, compact, beautifully made. I'm appreciating my purchase and hopefully one day I'll add more to it.
Great
I think it is a great stater harmonica even through am still learning to play it overall am pleased with it
The right harp, the right company
Replaced a Lee Oskar C harp with the good ol' Marine Band. The tone is much better for the Piedmont, Hill Country and Delta blues I play (racked harp, acoustic and resonator guitar). No substitute for that raspy tone.
And, of course, Sweetwater was stellar to deal with, as always.
The Sweetwater Experience
Excellent products
Excellent products and excellent customer service!
Hohner Harmonica - definitely recommend this company!
I bought this for my son and he loves it. I can hear him playing it all hours of the day. The company is awesome as well. It's rare to find a company that reaches out in person before your order arrives to update you on the order status and afterword's to ensure you are happy with your purchase. I definitely recommend this company!
its cool its fun
title says it all
An absolute classic
You cant make a classic better! Love these harps
Marine band
Great harmonica!
Nice Harmonica, big on honk
I have been playing a Honer special 20 for a few years now, self taught. My special 20 is in A, to blues in E, and I wanted a harmonica in C so I could take advantage of most online lessons. I always wanted a Marine Band since I was a kid, so I scored one and I am not disappointed. Where the special 20 is smooth the Marine band is rough (in a good way) and powerful. It feels like the difference between playing an alto and Baritone sax, the marine band being the baritone. I feel like I have more control over (has more range of tones) the Marine band and it bends easily and likes to growl a bit. I didn't know that a harmonica could be this nice. Still a mustache puller though. I think it will probably be Marine Bands from here on out for me. As always Sweetwater was great.
I wouldn’t suggest for beginners
I read a lot of suggestions that this was a great harp for beginners and I purchased it. I wish I would have purchased the Special 20. It looks much easier to clean and smoother on the lips. Don't get me wrong this is an outstanding harp. The sound is beautiful, but as a beginner I probably couldn't tell the difference between it and the Special 20. I just wish it came apart easier and had a plastic comb. Because now I am very hesitant to clean it.
It is great
I have always wanted to by one but have not wanted to spend that much money for it. I finally decided to buy it and do not regret doing it. I do really like it.
I also thank Matt Brooks and Sweetwater for thier service and fast delivery.
Love it!!
Love the harmonica, and the customer service from Sweetwater?? Amazing!!
Numerous contacts to make sure I was satisfied with my purchase!! Something that is refreshing in today's marketplace.
great product
well right out of the box i knew i had a winner , i had been using a very inexpensive harmonica that you needed a vaccum and an air compressor to blow or draw through , the sound is fantastic and man is it loud . i feel that i am already playing better . i also bought the fender blues deville in the key of c and love that one too . i would recommend this harmonica to anyone looking to up grade and will in the future purchase other Hohners in other keys . thanks sweetwater for the help on my musical journey , having a blast at it . i would not buy my musical needs any were else . ps love the candy too , but the personal service is outstanding .
Just learning but
Great sound. Finding it fun and easier to play than a prior cheap harp. Had to adjust a few reeds but that is my fussy tastes.
Lots of fun!
