Pedal Steel Amp

By Jeff from Indiana on March 29, 2024

Sounds great for pedal steel, plenty loud enough to keep up with the drummer and stays clean. The design is a little quirky, and I wish it had reverb, but hey it's $ and fits in your seat. I'm running through a single 12" telonics speaker.

Excellent backup for an old tube amp

By Lawrence from Santa Clarita, CA on February 8, 2024 Music Background: Music Teacher (current), Music Therapist (retired)

I have a 1967 Fender Twin Reverb that eats through tubes and can be quite unreliable. I bought this to run through the cabinet as a backup and it sounds fantastic. Really gets a nice tube sound and with a reverb and tremelo pedal in front it covers all the bases that the Twin does. It's plenty loud, I've been playing it around one quarter volume, I cranked it to half and it's earsplitting. Stayed clean even there, haven't tried it on full. It takes pedals really well, especially overdrive. Wish it had an effects loop, but otherwise no complaints.

Vox MV50 Clean amp

By Bill Duncan on January 2, 2024 Music Background: Pedal steel guitar, Gospel and country.

I am surprised at the power and soununid of this amp. I play pedal steel and I have several amps, tube and solid state. The little Vox admittedly doesn't have the tone of my other tube amps, it has a very pleasing sound. I have been using it through a 12 inch JBL D123 speaker and it makes for a highly portable good sounding combination. I do like the Vox MV50 Clean amp.

Surprised

Well designed and performs great.

Jaw-dropping clean power and sweet tone

By LaroldC from MA on April 13, 2023 Music Background: Professional guitarist and bassis for 40+ years

I use this little head with a 1x12 Seismic Audio cabinet in which I installed a Jensen 4-ohm speaker, to get the biggest headroom possible. I run it with a compressor and I am able to use pedals for all my needs, as it loves them all: a Delay, a Chorus, a Digital Reverb, a Cry Baby Wah, and a Wampler Triple-Wreck distortion box. But it sounds fabulous even all on its own. Everyone wants to know what I'm playing through. I am a tube-tone fan and this little head does not let me down. It is as warm and punchy as any tube amp I have. You NEED one of these, or any one from the MV50 series.

Blown away!

By Samuel Letizia from Mars, PA on March 13, 2023 Music Background: Music has been in my life since early childhood as pro and hobbiest..I've run the gamut.

I've been at this craft for decades..since a 7 year old child and I'm in my 50's. I've been experimenting with some of these mini heads such as Orange and Joyo. The cleans from the Vox MV50 Clean are up there with Fender and actually better than some Fender models. It's plenty loud, so don't let the size fool you. I've played with many drummers and this thing can keep up. When miced up, I don't see how this thing wouldn't handle any gig. Tone is FANTASTIC and makes for a great pedal platform. These mini heads area going to be a game changer...BIG TIME and bring legendary amp tone to anyone with any budget. The Vox MV (Mini Vox) is the best line I've played so far. The big 100 watters I thing won't be needed too much longer, not to mention, with 4ohms this MV50 Clean will crank out 50 watts. I'm playing mime at 25, and it was a challenge to control volume at first...and that's a positive lol! If you have good pedals for delay or reverb and distortion, this will be all you need.

Vox MV50 Clean - Surprised!

By Keith from Missouri on November 30, 2022 Music Background: Classic rock, blues, and jazz guitarist.

I just received the MV50 Clean, to be used as a backup to my Carvin Nomad guitar amp, and I carefully unpacked it because I assumed it was not going to be powerful enough. Well holy crap - I was wrong. Connected to the 1x12 Celestion Neo Creamback in my Carvin amp (8 ohm), it was loud. I set all controls at mid-point and the deep switch on and I was amazed. The tonal quality surprised as did the volume it kicked out. I then added an extension cabinet (with an 8 ohm Eminence 10" Alpha speaker) so I could load this little dynamo with 4 ohms, and, again, I was taken aback. Loud, yes, but also full sounding and clean. I cannot find any faults with it so far. Using it as a backup amp - sure. Using it as a main amp - it can do it! It is a keeper.

Get one

By CHRISTOPHER NOETZEL from salem, NH on June 17, 2022

Got this as an emergency amp for the gear bag but I am blown away with how good this sounds. Loud, crystal clear cleans and incredibly compact…this may be my new go to for playing at home! Great value

Great to run your pedals through

By Dominick from New York on June 17, 2022

Super clean tones, great for running your pedalboard through high head room no break up at all and the tube sound is phenomenal! I got the bundle deal with the cab 1x8 for $149.00 and man it sounds awesome!

I honestly love this amp

By Matt from Minnesota on January 3, 2022 Music Background: Casually Gigging

This is a great head - perfect for just jamming. Not really much to complain about. I put pedals out front for my delay and drive and I feel like it does just as good of a job as my Fender tube amp with clean tones.

It's a gem and takes up no room. You really can't go wrong.

The Clean One

By Finn McAllbe on December 30, 2021 Music Background: I’ve played for my living off and on through the years. Mostly write and record now, especially lately.

I've had this amp for over a year now. I cycle through my collection of amps about 4 times a year. Every time I get to this one and am done playing a few different sorts of guitars through it, I think…WTF?!! Ridiculous, really…the quality of the sound, the warmth and controllability of its breakup, the headroom…the volume. This time I had it driving a 12" Celestion Alnico Creamback in an old Fender cab. I have no qualms about backing up my 60's Bassman with this. It's actually a little ….friendlier? Not the same, but the sound of the band won't hardly change. The AC50 version is just as good.

Yet another 5 star review

By Sweetwater Customer on June 19, 2021

I was on the hunt for a clean amp without breaking the bank. Reading all the stellar reviews, I thought I'd give it a shot.

And it turns out....I absolutely love this thing. I've been a "tube only" type for a long time, so reading about the Nutube piqued my engineering mind. How close to a traditional tube can it get? Physics dictates a lot of it, and if modern production techniques and designs follow the same principles, in theory this should be a better product. In practice, it lives up entirely to the claims.

The real secret with this guy is turning the attenuation to 1/100 and pushing the volume knob. If you have a boost pedal of any kind, run it before this and experience legit tube breakup and compression. I love that you can get super clean and loud but can set low and get crunchy.

I might need to buy another!

Tiny head delivers on its promises of volume and tone

By Larold from MA on April 2, 2021 Music Background: Professional stage performer and session artist

I skeptically watched a lot of video demos of this little head. I paid attention to the AC and the Hi-Gain versions, didn't really go over the Boutique version, but what I wanted most was big clean headroom. So I opted for the MV50 Clean. It did not disappoint. In fact, to get all 50 W I paired it with a homemade cab consisting of an empty Seismic Audio birch cabinet and a Jensen C12N 50W 4-ohm 12" speaker. In front I run a Wampler Triple Wreck, a Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, a TC Electronic Corona Chorus, and an Outlaw Effects 24K reverb. It doesn't get any better. I actually replaced my 62 lb Peavey Classic 50 4x10 combo with this 25 lb rig, and all the pedals fit inside the cab for carrying. With regard to the head alone, it gives a huge, chimey clean sound, articulate and warm. There are only three controls on the face: Treble, Bass, and Volume, and there are two EQ shape options and three attenuation settings in back. It has no effects of its own. I like the Nutube technology - it is very close to real tube clean tone, and anyone who says otherwise is nitpicking. You really cannot drive this head to distort much. If you love Hendrix as much as Larry Carlton, then with a pedal or two this is the perfect little head. Do NOT let its size fool you!

Great Lil' Bedroom Amp

By Rocker Rick from Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 3, 2021 Music Background: Hobby Musician, drums, guitar, recording,...

I got this amp with the intention to use in my bedroom. I enjoy a bit of practice to end my day before I doze off.

I have the MV50 Clean and the BC108 speaker set up on a shelving unit right next to my bed.

The clean is the best and I use a mini reverb and delay pedal in front of the amp. I run the volume just past 1/2 throttle and it is plenty loud. Sometimes I use the headphone output and unplug the speaker for silent practice.

I wish the power switch was on the front, it is a very small slider switch on the back and kind of a hassle to operate.

Overall I think this is a great little amp. It does exactly what I want it to do. The size is perfect, cute and compact.

Brilliant

By Bill from Cedar City, UT on June 2, 2020 Music Background: Guitarist, Composer, Engineer

I bought the MV50 Clean to use as a backup amp to my main amps which are 50 watts or less. It has plenty of clean headroom. I'm impressed with the Nutube. It interacts and sounds like a well designed "full size" hybrid amp. The tonal options between the bass, treble and deep/flat controls make it so I can get a pretty close match to any of my other amps, and my pedals sound great. The Attenuation switch is nice. Right now I set it to 1/10 and dial in the volume between 11:00-12:00 and it gets right at the sweet spot before noticeable breakup and the volume keeps up with my main rig into an 8 ohm speaker. I use my rig for stage volume and mic it for FOH.

Didn't believe it when they said loud....

By Michael from Western NY on July 13, 2019 Music Background: Hobbiest

I must say that all the videos, and all the written reviews don't fully describe the product. IT'S GREATER THAN I EXPECTED!!! I have the mv50 clean plugged into 2 old PA speakers, and the amp brings them to life. Pristine clean sound, handles my reverb and fuzz peddles beautifully, and gets VERY LOUD!!! My PA speakers are at 8 ohms each, and connected together I can get the full 50 Watts out of the amp.

Kudos to Sweetwater! Excellent customer service, and fast shipping! I am greatly pleased with my purchase!

Awesome amp

By Chris from Colorado on June 6, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist

I can't believe how good this amp sounds. I bought it to solve a headphone/line out problem as I want to do some recording and late night practicing. The sound is really clean and more than loud enough for anything I'll be doing. Not sure if you could use this in a live setting but I don't think I'll be playing live anytime soon. I really like the power adjustments on the back. I've been setting it to 1/10 and then the volume knob isn't so touchy as with full power. If you're looking for a small form factor amp, I can't recommend this enough.

Wow

By Sweetwater Customer on August 29, 2018

When I 1st got this amp I was skeptical about all the claims. It's small. If I were to compare it to something of similar size, its roughly the size of your Cable Modem box, or maybe a roll of duct tape or a small nerf football. It hardly weighs anything, and seems laughable that it comes with a metal carry handle. Once I plugged it in though, its anything but small.

This amp is surprising. I currently have it pushing two 8 Ohm speakers for the full 50 watt experience. This amp puts out plenty of volume and tone for its size. I honestly can't really think of any major issues with this amp. By itself, the amp is fully capable of playing thick heavy warm bass notes, to crisp chimey highs. Roll the volume nob all the way up and you get just a little bite as the amp starts to overdrive. Since it's a clean amp, this thing plays very well with pedals, and sounds amazing with all effects thrown at it. Reverb, Echo, Distortion, Flange, Wah, you name it, this amp head loves it.

The only issue I have with the amp is the back layout. Stay away from using 90 degree cables in the back of this amp. They'll cover up some of the switches that are located in the back of the amp. Some of those switches are fundamental to using this amp, like powering it on, or changing the output volume of the amp. Also, feeling around the back of this amp for the switch you want is a pain. Good thing the amp is small and light weight.

Over all its a great amp, that can play just about anything you want. Anyone looking for a portable rig that is packed full of volume and tone will not be disappointed with this amp head. Just get straight cables, some effects pedals, and a good cab. Heck, just use headphones if you want, this thing just sounds great.

Amazing tone!

By DG4harp from Midwest on April 18, 2018 Music Background: Semi-pro performer

I got the Vox mv50 Clean because I was looking for a lightweight amp that could crank loud enough to play in a quartet with drums and bass, but that didn"t have dozens of bells and whistles. I play blues, jazz, folk and vintage R&B, so I just want an amp that gives me a good clean American-style tone. After watching dozens of YouTube vids about the Vox mv50"s, I crossed my fingers and bought the Clean. When I got mine I played for about an hour, and I didn"t want to stop! This amazing little box puts out fantastic tone, from quiet bedroom levels to club volumes.
I play a Reverend PA1-RT hollow body, a Samick LP clone and a Godin 5th Ave. Kingpin hollow body. All three sound great through this amp. The hollow bodies get silky, warm jazz tones and then great bluesy 335 vibes. The Les Paul generates solid rock rhythm voicings. I use a Xoom G3n multipedal for overdrives, and the Echoplex preamp, Grid Slammer, TS808 and ProCo Rat pedals all sound really tight through the mv50. i also discovered you can use the Xoom"s amp models of the Fender Twin Reverb and the Deluxe Reverb to get more subtle, organic drive effects through the mv50. The few effects I use - reverb, chorus, phaser, trem — all blend beautifully with the amp.
I mostly run my mv50 Clean through a 1x12 cabinet, and all three attenuator levels sound great. I read reviews where players doubted the amp could cut through a band mix, but I disagree. Unless you"re playing high-gain, thrashy stuff, the mv50 running at 25 watts through a 1x12 cab holds its own. My next purchase is another 8 ohm cab, so I can feel what the full 50 watts sounds like. The headphone out sounds great, too!
My one tiny criticism: I wish the power switch was on the front or top of the amp. The other switches are fine in the back because you won"t use them as much, but finding the power on a dark stage can be tricky. Not enough to even knock a half-star off my rating, though.

Super clean

By Michael from CA on February 11, 2018 Music Background: 30 years playing bass and rhythm guitar, gigging for 25.

I got this on a whim, because I am primarily a bass player, but play guitar for fun, wanted a low-priced small guitar amp that my son and I could use for living room jamming at low volumes. After 6 months use, it is the most played amp in the house. My son likes it for jazz guitar because the clean is pristine, but there"s a ton of dynamics available when using your fingers and guitar volume. Very clear note separation for chords in all registers, soloing tone is crisp and clear without brashness or harshness that I"ve experienced with previous hybrid amps. I bought a 4ohm Warehouse speaker, and put it in a closed 1x12 guitar cab and it gets very loud with the full 50 watts. I also use this rig as a bass practice amp, and I can get a very nice old school Paul McCartney sound with the treble rolled all the way off.
This does not sound like any other hybrid amp that I"ve ever played through, this has much more tubeyness and I cannot discern that the power stage is solid state unless the volume knob is up past 3 o"clock. Oh, and you can get a laptop backup battery 19v and power this amp with no AC available because it draws so little power. Jacob Stutzman is a great sales rep, and I highly recommend.

Phenomenal

By Robert from Clifton Park on January 29, 2018

Can"t believe there"s so much tube sounding tone packed in this little pedal sized box! Absolutely amazing. I"m running it direct out to the PA and it sounds as good as my deluxe reverb mic"d up. Takes pedals really well too.

Great amp. Nothing better for the price!

By Blake on November 12, 2017 Music Background: Musician for 15 years

I bought this amp almost completely out of curiosity and was pretty impressed. Love the size of it! It's so small I just mounted it on my pedal board and It's so convenient. Sounds just like what you would expect from Vox. Classic AC tone. Very impressive. Plenty of volume as well. Would highly recommend to someone who's looking for something smaller and simple, or is just starting out playing guitar.

the real deal

By George from British Columbia, Canada on September 22, 2017

I own a 1966 Vox Berkley that I use in my tribute to the 60's and it is a great amp but as anyone knows, was notoriously unreliable. It has been cleaned and re capped but still..... I bought this MV50 and keep it in my cab in case the Berkley head decides to take a night off but I have to say it's getting lots more use than that. It's loud into the 4 ohm 2 X10 Vox cab but I like it so much that I bought the Vox BC112 cab and use that rig when I don't want to be carrying lots of gear and don't have much stage room. The amp is warm, punchy and small, absurdly small for such a huge sound. I'd buy another one in an instant, fantastic!

MV 50 Clean. Great tone, loves pedals.

By Shawn Tracy from South Carolina on August 7, 2017

This little guy sounds amazing. I am running it through 2 12" H&K closed backs with Celestions.
It has a fantastic tone with no pedals required, and takes pedals fantastic.
I run compression, eq, tube screamer, ocd, chorus, delay and reverb and it all sounds wonderful. (Not all ar once, ofc)
I would gig with this in a heartbeat.
Have played strat and les paul through it. Both outstanding.
Highest marks, and for $, you owe it to yourself before they go away.

excellent

Great Little Amp. I couldn't believe how loud this small amp. Sound is good.

I Took a Risk and It Paid Off

By WP from Atlanta on July 25, 2017

I ordered this little guy sight unseen. I'd only heard online demos. I never do this, so I considered it a big risk for me.

Now...
No. This is not an AC-30 head, so don't expect it to sound like that.
No. This is not an AC-15 combo, so don't expect it to sound like that either.
No. This is not the perfect solution for everyone.

With those disclaimers out of the way, let me say this: this little thing is really great!

I'm actually using it as a direct-in solution straight off my pedal board. It takes pedals very well, and has all kinds of output signal to give to the board.

I've used it through a cab (1x10" Alnico), and it sounds excellent. If I need it for that purpose, I'll certainly use it.

But for what it is, a silent, stage volume stealth...it's perfect.

I will say that, so far, I like it better with humbuckers than single coils (and I'm normally a Tele player!), but it gets by solidly with either, thanks to the "Deep" switch.

After about a month of use. I'm still impressed with its ability to respond to the dynamics I give it, and I'm happier every time I use it and tweak it a bit more.

Sweet Mini Amp with Huge Power

By Chris from Long Beach on June 29, 2017

When I bought this tiny VOX MV50 I wasn't expecting much. I figured I'd end up returning it. That is until I hooked it up and played through it! This thing is amazing! The sounds are those of an amp 10 times the size. The tones I get from this are just outstanding. Just as good as my AC15C1 and I'm not kidding!

This will make a 4ohm 4x12 cab come alive and blow you out of the room! If you set it flat you can even get away with playing a modelling amp such as a Kemper through it...not as good as a powered FRFR mind you, but still very nice.

...and the price, are you kidding, I've spent more on a single pedal.

Go try one out, you won't be disappointed!

SUPER POWER!!! SUPER CLEAN!!

By LongColt from Herman, NE on June 12, 2017 Music Background: Played in a few bands

Let's hear it for nano tube tech! This is the gutsiest micro amp I have ever heard. Pristine clear sound that loves every pedal I have put in the front of it. I have had 50 watt full tube amps that didn't have the oomph this little dynamo has and it wasn't near as clean either. Well worth the money and I plan on getting each one of the three models now!!

Great Little Amp

By Michael Montella from Charlotte, NC on June 11, 2017 Music Background: Jazz guitarist for the past 50 years

The clean sound on this amp is just what I need. I use the Vox MV50 a little differently than most might , as I think it is fantastic as a preamp. Let me explain: I play mostly jazz box guitars( Herritage , Gibson, etc.) and I like a clean sound that I get from an accoustic amp. By plugging the Vox into a Fishman Loudbox Artist amp I get the warmth of tubes through the clarity of the accoustic amp. The notes ring out with clarity , warmth and sustain. I highly recommend the Vox MV50.

Cool!

By Clint Medicine Crow from SoCal on June 11, 2017

I am not new to the micro amp game as i own several at this point. I also own a top end full size tube amp and over the years have owned and played through the most well known brands. I say this not to brag or anything like that but to give a background as a frame of reference. The MV50 Clean sounds just as good as any of those top brands and the fact that you can literally put it in a gig bag or case with a guitar makes this a must have. The technology in these micro amps really is amazing. You truely get a tube like tone and feel from these little jewels. The clean tone of the MV50 Clean is just that. Tons of headroom keeps things clean even at high volume levels even with the use of high output pickups. The unit looks cool and appears to be well built. Tone is a very subjective thing but in my opinion this is a great amp with useable tones that closely match those of the best full sized all tube amplifiers. Get one of these now!

Buy It You Won't Regret It

By Jim from Memphis on June 8, 2017 Music Background: Gigging Musician

I am impressed. It sounds great. Try it for yourself. This little guy is useful. It is not a gimmick like micro amps have been in the past. I love the tone of it. I play it through a Fender JBL d120f (1-12 cabinet) and it sounds really good. It's plenty loud and the treble bass control are effective. I also purchased the the Vox 8" speaker which is great for practice,(this is also a nice combo to monitor or record) I run my Eleven Rack through this smaller speaker and it sounds great. You can see plenty of reviews on line and more and more are being posted everyday. Vox is on to something with these little guys.

DANG THIS THING HAS GOT ALL THE POWER YOU'LL EVER NEED!!

By LongColt from Herman, NE on May 17, 2017 Music Background: Playing off and on since the early 80's

I opened the box and laughed when I pulled it out. Thought there was no way this tiny thing could push 50watts and sound good doing it. I WAS SO WRONG!! I put my 2x12 cab on 4 ohms so I could see if it would get as loud as my Orange Micro Terror. At 1/3 volume it was blowing it away and when I wasn't picking a string, PERFECT SILENCE!! When they say clean they mean it. With the tube tech built into this thing it has the dynamics that you'd expect from a full sized tube amp when playing. The bass and treble controls actually control the tone very well which most amps this size always seemed to have a hard time doing. A little goes a long way!! I can get the tones I want with this without running through my 7band eq. In fact, a lot of pedals are going bye bye with this. I can use my MXR for metal, my tube overdrive for blues, and my reverb and delay pedals. Finally down to the 4 pedal situation I always wanted for the basics. Now I can get just what I want for effects because this little beauty of an amp handles pedals VERY well. I can actually say I want to buy 3-5 of these amps just in case they ever stop making them. Second time in my life I have said that about guitars or equipment. First was my Banshee FR and now this amp. The attenuation does just what it says and the DEEP and FLAT switch does the same too. It seems to be built very sturdy but I wish they would have put the power in somewhere on the side so it doesn't interfere with those switches in the back. It will be rare you need to use them but it is the only thing I can't rave about. I won't even take off points because they are a set and forget type switch for the most part anyway.

Nothing short of amazing

By John from VA on May 11, 2017

I bought this as a backup for a Tweed Vibrolux 5F11 that I use on small gigs. I received the head from Sweetwater and tested it out and was blown away. While I will keep the Tweed Vibrolux, I am seriously considering selling some boutique amps that I have that are just gathering dust.

SMALL BUT POWERFUL

By KENNY H. from BROWNING, IL on May 5, 2017 Music Background: EXPERIENCED

HOW THEY CAN GET ALL THAT TONE AND POWER INTO THIS LITTLE SHELL IS INCREDIBLE. IT SOUNDS GREAT BY ITSELF AND HANDLES PEDALS WITH NO PROBLEM. I HAD NO IDEA THAT IT WAS SO SMALL IN SIZE UNTIL I OPENED THE BOX AND THOUGHT WHERE IN THE HECK IS IT. I MEAN THIS LITTLE BEAST IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE PALM OF MY HAND. UNBELIEVABLE TILL YOU SEE IT FOR YOURSELF IN PERSON. I AM ASSUMING THAT VOX HAD IN MIND, THOSE WHO MIGHT WANT TO FIT THE MV50 ONTO THEIR PEDALBOARDS AND THEN ALL THAT YOU WOULD NEED IS A GREAT SPEAKER CABINET AND YOU ARE ALL SET. OH, I MIGHT ADD THAT TO MY EARS, THIS THING IS DEAD QUIET. I DON'T HEAR THAT STATIC SOUND THAT SOME AMPS MAKE EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR GUITAR VOLUME COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. VOX DID A GREAT JOB WITH THIS ONE. HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS NOW BUT LOOKS LIKE IT IS BUILT LIKE A TANK. I AM POWERING 2 JET CITY 1X12 CABS TO PRODUCE THE 8 OHMS AND AT HALF POSITION THIS THING IS LOUD.

HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TOO LONG OR THEY WILL BE OUT OF STOCK OR WHEN THE SECRET GETS OUT, THE PRICE WILL GO UP. TRY ONE. YOU WILL BE SURPRISED!

Wow!

By Scott from FL on June 9, 2023 Music Background: Amateur 30 yrs - weekly stage play

This little guy is much more than I expected. The MV50 Clean looks like a frail gimmik. It is just the opposite. Even though it is light weight, it is solid and tough. It is also much louder than I thought. I use this as a clean amp platform for my pedalboard. It works extremely well for this. I run into a 2x12 cabinet and use the attenuator at home. I didn't give 5 stars because, ironically, it is a little darker tone than I like. I just added an MXR 10-band EQ to my board to fix that issue. Now, all is well. Otherwise, this is perfect. This is a great piece of equipment I highly recommend.

Very Happy!

By Al Alsman from Normal, IL on May 11, 2019

I've been playing through this for a while now and I have to say that I am VERY HAPPY with this little power house. I've paired it with a Fender 1x12 with a Celestion in it and for what I do, it's just the ticket. The head has great tonality from the bass and treble controls and it also sounds very tube-like to me. I will agree with other posters that the darn on/off switch is hard to get to with the power line being right next to it, but once you get used to that you're fine. I play country so the cleans are great and when I need to get dirty it takes effects really well. I run a G-System with a Hot-Wired overdrive through it and it can rock when I want it to. I would probably give this a 4.8/5 because of the small switches but that comes with the territory of something that fits in your hand.

Fantastic weight/quality ratio

By Pino from Los Angeles, Duluth, Charleston. on February 15, 2018 Music Background: University of Minnesota Master of Music

Well, this little guy is precisely what I was looking for; light and good sounding. Ideal for low volume jazz gigs. I used with a 8ohms, 10" speaker cabinet and it had just the right amount of headroom for a clean sound. Also, I tested it with a 8ohms 2x12" cabinet and of course it sounded even better. I didn"t try with a 4ohms cabinet, I think that connecting in parallel the two cabinets I would obtain a great sound and more headroom. I"ll do it soon. I don"t know yet how reliable are those little switches on the rear panel for intense gigging, will see.
Great product.

It is comfortable, easy to carry. It is usable for presentations. Friendly with the analog pedals. I do not know about the digital ones because I do not have any. The eco button is unnecessary from my point of view, I always have it off. For the rest the MV50 head surprises, friends doubted that it would sound hard. Hahaha. I tried it with nylon acoustic guitar and I liked it. I even get to put it with a bass cabinet, 15" speaker, 4 ohms and it sounds good (Obviously the bass speaker sounds more low frequencies than normal).

I think that I will buy the MV50 AC in the future. Success for the Vox company and same for Sweetwater... very good treatment and service. Many blessings.

Great little/big amp

By Sweetwater Customer on January 4, 2018

Amazing little/big amp. Clean sound through a larger cabinet.

Just what I needed

By AF from NE on September 28, 2017 Music Background: Semi-pro gigging musician

I decided to try this because I liked the concept: I've really never bonded with the drive channel of any amp I've owned and tend to use pedals for dirt. Most recently I gigged for many years with a Peavey Delta Blues with a 15" speaker (very good amp, but too heavy). So the idea of just a clean amp works for me.

I'm running this through a Bugera 1x12 8 ohm cabinet - which I've owned for a couple of years now. It's an 80 watt Turbosound speaker, and to my ear it sounds really good. Pretty neutral - I don't feel like it has a lot of tone coloration (obviously any guitar speaker has tone coloration, but this speaker doesn't hit you over the head with any particular thing it's doing to the sound).

So far I'm very happy with this amp. Its base tone is an excellent, round, warm clean tone. You get bass & treble controls, and it seems to me that the amp is voiced to allow you to somewhat scoop or boost the mids by increasing or cutting the bass & treble. The controls are pretty responsive, but don't give you crazy amounts of adjustment. The amp is voiced fairly neutral. It's not a scooped Fender clean and it's not a noticeably midrangey Vox sound - though it's closer to the Vox sound, unsurprisingly. These things are very subjective and also dependent on your cab/speaker, of course.

But I think it sounds great. Does it sound like a tube amp? I think that really depends on what you're comparing it to, because speaker and tone stack have such a huge influence on an amp's tone. I can tell you that it DOES NOT have a cold, sterile sound, which is an issue with many SS amps. Frankly, I don't feel like I'm missing anything from my tube amps, other than killing my back. I use a Boss Fender reverb pedal, which sounds really great - I always run this through the front of my amps, just because I have many that don't have effects loops, so my laziness just makes me treat all my amps the same in that regard.

All of my dirt pedals sound great through this amp, too. Lovepedal Champ (excellent pedal), Toadworks Crunch Frog, a no-name low gain OD, Barber LTD, BBE Window Pane fuzz - all work as I want them to.

The 4 ohm load is a bit of a pain. Is 25 watts through an 8 ohm cab loud enough to gig? That really depends on your band's setup. If you mic all amps and put them through a PA then you won't have any issues. If your band tends to play too loud all the time - still hard to say. It's worked for me, though I'm seeking a solution to get all 50 watts available, like running two 8 ohm cabs together, or putting a 4 ohm speaker in a cab, but I'd like to keep my rig usable with all my other amps, and I don't have anything else that runs at 4 ohms. We'll see. It's been loud enough for me, so far, but we try to keep our stage volume to reasonable levels. YMMV. If you are able to run it at 50 watts I think you'd have zero problems with volume unless your band likes to chase people away with volume.

Vox has done a great job with this amp - lots of players want a simple, great-sounding, clean pedal platform. This amp fits that bill. If this sounds like you, give one a shot, I think you'll be happy.

REVIEW FOLLOW UP

I HAVE A LABOR DAY GIG COMING UP AND I FOUND A NEW USE FOR THIS LITTLE JEWEL. IT WILL ALSO WORK GREAT FOR A SLAVE AMP. I COME OUT OF MY MUSTANG 3 V.2 SEND JACK ON THE EFFECTS LOOP AND RUN A CABLE FROM IT TO THE INPUT JACK ON THE MV50 CLEAN THROUGH A 1X12 CAB TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DRUMMER FOR THE BASS PLAYER SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TROUBLE HEARING MY GUITAR AND HE CAN CONTROL THE VOLUME AS HE NEEDS TO WITH THE MV50. I HAVE TRIED THIS SETUP IN MY MAN CAVE AND IT WORKS GREAT. CAN'T WAIT TO TRY IT AT THE GIG ON SAT. BEFORE LABOR DAY!

Quite surprised!

I was looking for something to run at home so I wouldn't need to transport my Mesa head to and from practice. The main problem I have run into with small "lunchbox" amps has been clean headroom. So when I saw the videos and reviews for this I was really excited. I tested it out against a few other small micro amps in the Sweetwater showroom and none sounded as good, and clean, as this MV50! I run mine into a custom built 1x12 with am Eminence C-Rex and I was floored by the juicy and warm clean tone. The only complaints I have are these. 1) the EQ is limited. I run an MXR 10 band EQ pedal in front of it and it makes it go from sounding good to AMAZING! 2) The lack of an FX loop. For my delay/recerb/chorus pedals they sound just fine run straight in, but they would sound even better run in a loop. These are very minor issues. Especially since the sound quality of the amp is just beyond what I expected for a small amp. I use a JHS @ pedal for my distorted tones and they pair up very well. I wouldn't hesitate to use this rig at a live show. I was even impressed with the headphone out! If you want a pure clean amp that is LOUD, sounds wonderful, and portable, I can't imagine a better option!

Prit-teeee cool.

The Vox MV50 has some good stuff going on. I like the fact that you can practically put it in your pocket and power any speaker cab. A 16ohm cab is not going to be that loud, but great tone at a bedroom volume. I tried it on an 8 ohm cabinet and it could definitely stand up to a laid back drummer in the right room, and could absolutely be mic'd for a live show. Plugged into my 4ohm x 2 Eminence wizard (103db) cab, it was ear-drum-blastingly loud! Once again, Great tone. I chose the "Clean" for more headroom and so I could use effects liberally. When you do decide to really push the "clean" model, it will break up a bit, and that's just alright. My own overdrive pedal blends with that nicely.
I think the handle on top and the VU meter are weird/unecessary, but whatever. I have a small gripe about the power adapter plug. It's a 90 degree elbow that plugs into the back. If you point it to the left or right, it obstructs either switch in the back (power switch or EQ). It's just a little awkward.
Overall, I think it sounds great. It's crystal clear with excellent dynamics and tone. The portability and flexibility is fantastic. I wonder if the Nutube is going to show up in more places.

MV50 Clean Direct out into Bose Tower PA

By Tom Pernal from New Joisey on August 1, 2019 Music Background: Lifelong

I have had my MV50 Clean for about a month or so. I use it to run my Warmoth Tele into my Bose Model 1 Series II PA. I previously used a SansAmp with good results though it sounded a bit thin. (compensated with EQ). The MV50 coming out the headphones/line out set at the middle power mode sounds wonderful. Very "Fenderish" for jangly chords. As a solo guitarist/vocalist at present, that's the sound I need. I've used it on several gigs now with my new Takamine Thinline (another Sweetwater purchase as was the Bose PA).

Vox MV50

Wow! This unit is just what the doctor ordered. For small and large gig setups while maintaining the power and tone and presence required to cut through the other accompanying instruments.

Vox MV50 Clean

By Bob Helfant on August 22, 2017

I was hoping it would sound like a Vox, but it is more generic. It's a little warmer than a Polytone I once owned but no where near as nice as "real" amps.

maybe as a backup

By Nate on May 26, 2023 Music Background: pro

I don't understand all the praise. I wonder if anyone who praises this or other similar offerings (Quilter Superblock) have actually spent time with tube amps or can play up to where they know the difference.

Still not sure if I'm going to keep it, and if I do it'll only be as a backup. At least I can run it with my 4ohm cab. I do appreciate that feature.

For the size and price I guess it works as a backup, but it sounds dead/boring and has no life to it. Bandmates agreed while we gave it a demo during practice. They didn't like it, either.

Lights and meter are cool, but I'd rather have sound over 'cool looking'.
