Exactly what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer on February 21, 2024

I needed a 2 channel interface. This works perfectly. It's cheaper than others and does what I expected.

Best Interface For the Price!!

By Skyler Greggerson from Ohio on February 14, 2024 Music Background: Collegiate and Professional Trumpeter

Been using the M-Track Solo for a couple months now and wow, I've done everything from recording trumpet, Tuba, horn, euphonium, and clarinet, to vocals, and random sounds for a mix, even using my guitar directly input to the box perfectly.

Would highly recommend to anyone looking to get a first step into the audio world! Pairs great with the Shure Sm57 microphone!

Great interface

By Brian Luse from VANCOUVER, WA on December 21, 2023

This is my first time using an interface. Very simple to install along with the programs included. A couple of YouTube videos on how to set up the computer and even an old fart like me figured it out with ease. Fun as hell!

Great simple Interface!

It has been exactly what I needed to record my Casio cx700 onto my computer. Very easy to use, the sound quality comes through clearly without any noticeable fuzz or latency. Awesome gear for a great price.

Audio interface

By Robert Manley on December 13, 2021

I have not noticed any latency, and for the price is the reason I give 5 stars. I am sure if you spend more you get more. For me however I just want to get my songs recorded, as I forget some catchy stuff I come up with.

Great sound for 50 bucks!

By Paul Geller from NY on April 15, 2021

I use the M-Audio Solo to record guitar tracks in Cakewalk by Bandlab. Very clear sound at a very affordable price.

Great simple amp for my XLR mic

By Christian from Jersey City, NJ on March 31, 2021

Got this to setup my Behringer XM8500 with my PC. Works great. Was plug and play on Linux too (Ubuntu 20.10).

Great Budget Audio Interface

By Tim on March 2, 2021

The M-Audio M-Track Solo is a really killer interface for the price. Definitely dethrones the previous king of the budget interfaces (Behringer UM2). The mic preamp is nice and quiet - my mic sounds great through it (using a cardioid condenser mic). The interface itself is light-weight and made of plastic with a matte finish and a brushed-textured top plate. Nothing rattles around while shaking and all of the knobs, switches and I/O are pretty sturdy. The LEDs are nice a bright and accurately indicates when the mic is clipping.

The only gripe I have with this interface is with the headphone amp. You will need headphones with lower impedance in order to utilize the zero-latency monitoring of this interface. I use my Philips Fidelio X2HR cans with an impedance of 30 ohms. I'd say headphones with an impedance of 150 ohms or lower should be fine; any higher and it probably wouldn't get loud enough.

Obviously there are better performing and better sounding interfaces out there (and more expensive) but if you only have $... to spend, I can definitely recommend the M-Audio M-Track Solo.

Great, affordable interface!

By Santos from Michigan on December 30, 2022 Music Background: Electronic Music Producer

One of the best interfaces you can get for the price. Only thing I would love to see changed is having 1/4" outputs instead of RCA. But overall, still a good interface, can't beat the value.

does the job without the price

By Christopher Reyes from San Marcos, TX on December 24, 2021 Music Background: sound designer

works really well with what i want to do, only issue i had with it is that the xlr port doesn't work without it being turned up all the way, i don't know if it's always like that with other ones or if i got a messed up one, either way, i don't really use it much for xlr stuff anyways

works on linux without setup

By chris from seattle on August 23, 2023 Music Background: a few years of guitar

i'm using this on ubuntu with guitarix & ardour and it works well for that without any setup.

Good Interface

By Sweetwater Customer on December 14, 2022

So far, I've had it for a year, and it's still good. The only thing I don't like about it is that there's a hum around 700 Hz. If you play guitar through an amp simulator with high gain while sustaining a note, you can hear the hum.

Works Quite Well.

By David Azarch from NYC on April 13, 2021 Music Background: Hand drums and percussion

I use this Interface to record percussion into the Cubase program. Works quite well. Can't beat the price.

quirky and jumpy, but you can work with it...very clean

By james from mass on March 18, 2022 Music Background: mostly voiceover

First experiences were a bit rough.....it clips at -6db mono (a sw thing) and has a massive jump
at gain 9--10. I almost tossed it. But....worked with in post-processing,
the sound floor seems almost bottomlessly quiet, a low level isn't that low, and the clarity is
superb. Just be prepared to tweek. OK for my auxiliary booth..

Well Priced - Bad Cable

By Al from MT Pleasant, SC on December 29, 2023

Had a chance to unbox and try out the M-Track Solo this weekend. I am using for a research project across a few locations. I shipped 5 to various locations in the states, and I quick shipped one to me first to try it out so I can train the others next week. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and received an unwelcoming "USB device not recognized". Humm, I unplugged, went to M-Audio for the latest driver. Installed, updated the Windows OS with the latest update, rebooted only to find the same "USB device not recognized". At this point, its the cable or the M-Track Solo. As I had an extra USB USB-A to USB-B cable, I tried that and everything came to life and appropriately, M-Track was accounted for in Device Manager.

As for the M-Track Solo it self, it seems like a solid affordable audio interface, works well with the ASIO driver, and produces a quality output signal. It is a little larger than I expected, and the plastic case is likely where some of the costs have been cut. It is very light weight 10oz (300g) that even moving the USB cable will move the device on my desk and when you tap on it, it sounds a bit hollow. I am a little concerned if it will be rugged enough for the other locations where we will be using it, it may be banged around a bit.

I would also think about if a single signal level light will be sufficient for your needs. I felt it would be, but after using it, and having other audio interfaces that indicate exactly where you are below that +3db mark, having a more informative db level meter would be nice. For me, it is hard to tell when the light flashes yellow or is it red, so it's hard to tell if I am in the sweet spot or just a little overdriven.

Bottom line: I would recommend if you are looking for an affordable audio interface backed by a great reputation like M-Audio. If you will be using software to monitor signal levels etc, and it will be kept in a relatively safe location, then some of these limitations I described above may not apply to you. If you are rough on your equipment you may want to consider options that are heavier with a metal chassis.

Cheap product

By Joseph Tobia from Orlando, FL on January 10, 2024 Music Background: Digital audio engineer

I considered it a waste of money. I bought it to record some takes for the church choir but I found a lot hisses and buzzes.
It's better to add few more bucks and get a decent audio interface.

Unusable

By Sweetwater Customer on March 3, 2021

Echo when monitoring, software is extremely confusing. All I want to do is record mic & guitar, but can't get rid of that annoying beat in the background, even though I have disabled everything.

Sales videos look easy but it's not

By Carl from JACKSONVILLE, FL on February 13, 2021 Music Background: self-taught amateur playing 45 years

Incredibly confusing. The videos make it look like it's quick and simple to set up and begin recording....wrong! First, there are multiple downloads with multiple username/passwords, and then, rather than just plugging in my mic & guitar to begin, the defaults are filled with inputs that I do not have connected, and then the error messages: vAssertion in "d:\ code\ scm\ protools\ release\ 2020\ r2\ protools\ newfilelibs\ sys\ win32\ sys_volumewin32.cpp", line 248.

It may be simple for a studio engineer, but not for a guy who just wants to record his perfomrance.
