Darkglass Microtubes B3K V2 Bass Preamp Pedal
Darkglass Microtubes B3K V2 Bass Preamp Pedal Reviews
Darkglass's line of preamps and overdrive pedals are taking the bass world by storm. Their grind and friendly interfaces have placed them on many pedalboards of bass players around Sweetwater. Their popular B3K V2 keeps the same grind as the original design and adds the ability to restore the mid frequencies. Now you can send your bass rig into meltdown without losing any clarity. If you're looking to add grind to your tone while maintaining your tonal core, you can't go wrong with the Darkglass B3K V2.
Trusted legend of bass overdrive
This is the one. The blend is just right. The mids cut right through no matter how you set it. It's a monster of an overdrive. A legend for good reason. Every bass player should have a B3k on their board.
Everythiing I thought it would be
I've been wanting this pedal for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger. While I haven't put it through all it's paces yet, when I got it out of the box and into my rig, I wasn't disappointed. Punchiness and grit and super tone with my Ibanez, LTD, and Schecter. I am really looking forward to stretching this out and seeing everything that it can do. My sales engineer Connor Bowdoin was excellent in assisting with this one and I appreciate that great service through him and Sweetwater.
Popular for a reason
This just sounds good. It is always a smooth overdrive sound that at worst can be a little bright. But it's tamed easily with the tone and blend knobs. It's not exactly versatile as a pedal, but the tone it provides is immediately tasteful and works for a wide range of music, adding enough grit for rock and metal while allowing for just the slightest push to make the bass stand out for songs that demand it. Grunt adds a lot of bass while the mids are nice when pushed up. You'll almost always want both buttons in.
More than just the Nolly sound.
This thing is a metal bass tone generator. Not just the Nolly sound. It gives you a brutal and clear bass overdrive that will mold to whatever bass you are using rather than turning your bass magically into a dingwall. It cuts through the mix and it does so with authority. Yes it's a little pricey, yes there are cheap clones out there that sound close, but nothing sounds quite like the real deal.
B3K B stands for Best
This pedal is he Best for the Best reason, it's because it has the Best OD/distortion*type*of all DG pedals.
What's the saying? Often imitated never duplicated? Well in this case it was DG themselves, and they never
did get . B3K uses CMOS for its grit engine, and while you can eventually make a 3K fry, rounded top wavelengths is where it's at. It gives this pedal, and not many others, the sound of tubes/y growl, distortion, & grind. oo
If want to see what that sounds like first, the closest thing I think is live Grand Funk circa 1970, only B3K has more attack, string wise.
From subtle to mean!
This little guy truley packs a punch! Practicing at lower volumes with the band, i couldn't really get a grasp on the dirt and going this thing delivers but after my first show using it at full volume I was head over heels.
Thank you Timothy VanSlyke!!
Distortion That Doesn't Loose Definition
This little beast is a great piece of engineering that can cover light distortion to really heavy while keeping the definition of the note you are playing.
I don't want to turn it off
I'm mainly using this just to add a little grit to my signal. It does subtle dirt very well. It also does a great overdrive if you want more bite. With the clean blend you never lose the low end. So good.
A MUST for any Metal bassist
If you play in any type of hardcore or metal band you need this pedal! I have tried the full tone OCD (which I love), Aguilar Agro, Rat, Bass big muff, modeling overdrives and this one is the absolute winner. Cuts thru the mix without sounding glassy or losing any low end. Match this up with your favorite preamp pedal(in my case it"s an Aguilar Tone Hammer) and you"re set!
Great sounding pedal
love this pedal, sounds great adds a lot to your sound, can add just enough or over the top drive -
I have about 5 different power supply units for my various pedals and an FYI you will get a hum or a bad hum from this pedal if using a power supply it does not like - it is power supply sensitive - it did like my DigiTech power supply and the hum completely gone ! ! - - either get a good power supply and board to clean up the stomp box mess or get a one spot adapter that one seems to work very well too !
Awesomeness in a small box.
This is probably the best distortion pedal for bass you will ever find. But don't take my word for it, just try it for yourself.....
Dark Glass B3K V2
I just wanted a subtle OD pedal for the classic rock-Tx blues-RnB music we perform. No melt ur face OD for me. But it will sure do it if I want that. Worked great first gig with my Sire P7-5, alder+TC-E BH550 amp+BF 212 cab.
Real nice, glassy highs with a slight bite to the notes. More OD when I dug in. Had all knobs set about 1:00. Gave me a great tone. Quality feel and easy to learn to use was a bonus if this pedal.
B3K!
The PERFECT bass overdrive pedal. One MINOR thought: I don't like the power supply input location (right side).
As always, the (now senior) sales associate Chris is the man.
Amazing Pedal
This is my first Darkglass pedal, and I am beyond impressed.
The B3K V2 has the most tube-like & musically usable bass distortion I've ever heard in a pedal.
The range of tones - from warm Ampeg-like growl to razor-sharp yet highly articulate distortion is amazing, and your tone remains beefy & defined at any setting & with any bass - active or passive.
Having the ability to blend your straight & effected signals at any ratio makes this pedal very versatile, and its ability to get just the right grind for any style or song - especially the hard & heavy stuff - is remarkable.
Highly Recommended!
