Cutting out

By Stewart H. from Warsaw Indiana
Music Background: Worship band Bassist

I bought a pair of these, at first they were fine but then I started having problems, the right ear monitor kept falling off the cable. After this happening several times I took them back to Sweetwater, they exchanged them for a new pair, after a while they started doing the same thing, took them back again, got a new pair after a runaround, now they are acting up again constantly cutting out, can't rely on them. Don't waist your time and money on these.

These are Kinda Crap

By Max from Vermont
Music Background: Professional artist and wedding musician

Pros:
- Strong, present lows
- Good sound isolation
- Low price point
- Includes a hardy carrying case
Cons:
- Absolutely abysmal upper-midrange; 2-3kHz is so present it's like an ice pick in your ear canal
- None of the included rubber tips actually fit onto the earbud.

If you have ear canals larger or smaller than the standard "medium" size they include pre-fitted onto the earbuds, then good luck. None of the extra small or large tips they included (they included three different kinds of all three sizes!!) could fit onto the earbuds. Tried for nearly a whole afternoon to get any of them on and it's impossible even with someone helping me and a pair of pliers.

I know this is a budget in ear, but I still Expected better QC than this for $. Get a grip, guys.

Mackie MP-220 earbuds

By Tim from Texas
Music Background: classic rock - praise and worship

I am an on-stage musician suffering from hearing loss over the years. Got tired of wearing big over-the-ear headphones. Researched the Mackie 220's with the dual drivers. Ordered, got them very timely (sweetwater) have worn them now for a few weeks and they solved my problems. Other earbuds I have tried did not have the mid and high frequency I needed to compensate for my loss, but these are great! Very comfortable and what really helps is they do not go deep into the ear. I get a very clear and crisp stage monitor feed with these. Highly recommend these even if you do not have hearing loss. Great fit, great price and they appear to be well built.

Not good!!

By Sweetwater Customer from LA

I saw the reviews and I was truly disappointed. We used P16s and these were NOT GOOD. Being a Mackie product I expected much better quality.

Better than expected

By David E. from Mount Carmel, PA

I've never been a big fan of Mackie products other than their old analog mixers, but I must say for a dual driver in ear at this price they are actually pretty clear in both low and high end. I didn't do much to EQ them, just a few adjustments to my liking, but even if you don't you will hear everything clearly. The only problem I have with them is the R and L markings are pretty small, so until you get used to which one is which it can be a struggle to see the letters on stage.

Just OK

By Emil L. from CA

Not sounding great. Sound seems slightly echoy & unclear.. Using them for listening to my location recording with my Zoom 5. Guess I'm spoiled by my Sony & Beyer full sized headphones.

MARKIE MP-220

By WENDELL H. from AL
Music Background: been playing 57 years all types of music

Been using them for some time at church, sound quality is good, being a bass player I bump the bottom end and the kick peddle and they take the volume very well. Being old school I got use to inner ear monitors, but like playing the old way when I go play at blues jams.

pretty good, but....

By D. G. from Monroe, MI
Music Background: Drummer, producer, smalll studio owner

Just purchased a pair of 220's. Have worn them twice for rehearsal. My initial impressions -

1. The cabling is very, very stiff. Since I've never worn or purchased in-ears before, I don't know if this is typical for all makes / models of in ears, but it sure makes it difficult to get them either inserted correctly, or worn comfortably.

2. It's nice that they come with 3 different types of insert sound barriers...silicone pads, silicone double flanges, and foam. Each supplied in small, medium and large sizes. It's nice, EXCEPT that the foam is impossible to install in either the medium or small sizes. Let me repeat...impossible. I tried everything, including brute strength, but the hole in the foam is simply too much smaller than the ear piece that it mounts on. Frustrating as all get out. I was able to get the large foam installed on the left ear piece, but never got the matching piece on the right, and none of the smaller sized foam pieces would go on either.

The double flanged silicone pieces can be installed, eventually. But again, also like trying to put a bowling ball through a drinking straw. I am a big, strong guy. It took all I had to install the double flanged types.

I understand the need for a tight fit. Really, I do. But why go to the trouble of including a large assortment of sizes / types if they can't be utilized? Seems like a waste of money, false advertising.

3. Maybe it's because the pair I was supplied cannot give me a custom fit on the ear pieces, but the attenuation of outside sound waves doesn't seem to be anywhere near the claimed 44 dB.

4. Sonic quality is good. But not good enough to justify keeping them in light of the shortcomings that prevent this pair from being a useful and FUNCTIONAL expenditure for me. If i could try all the included ear piece insert types and sizes, then perhaps I would feel differently.

I will be sending my salesman, Chris, a short e-mail about these in a few minutes, as I plan to try and return them. I know the Sweetwater disclaimer says ear pieces can't be returned. But it's not that I don't like them, it's that they simply cannot function as advertised.

Good.

By Sweetwater Customer

Use them at church. I wanted something different instead of my Shure 225. Sound is great, comfortable fit, I don"t like the wire it seems to tangle. The case I"m afraid I will pinch the wire and damage it. Other than that, very happy.. great sound and comfortable!
