Two controllers!

By Colin C. from Melrose, MA

My use case is a dozen desktop synths routed to 1) one controller with full size keys and 2) one controller with synth action keys (and a sequencer), and the 2-in 2-out works perfectly! FWIW I combined a CME with this and it works without a hitch.

NICE COMPACT MIDI MERGER UNIT

By Leonard D. from Peckville, PA
Music Background: Former Touring - weekend warrior now!

This is a cool unit! Small, compact - allows you to merge 2 keyboards into 1 -- not much more you can say. Works like a charm. I bought 2 (1 for each project!)

great at what it does

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a great solution. Be aware that it does not work with a battery-powered midi-controller.

NO BRAINER - EASY TO USE AND EFFICIENT.

By Leonard D. from Peckville, PA

I use this to merge a control pedal-board, a keyboard and a sound module. It will allow you to play your keyboard, & create an overlay with the sound module or visa versa (example: keyboard playing piano patch, sound module playing strings or organ simultaneously) I suggest plugging the keyboard into the INPUT SOCKET #2, your foot controller into INPUT SOCKET #1 and the sound module into OUTPUT SOCKET #1. I use my pedal-board to change patches on the module. So this is the reason for my in-depth description. If you noticed the controller and the module are SOCKET 1 IN/OUT. This is the only quark with this unit that you won't find information on anywhere. If you are sending midi data, make sure the INPUT that is sending matches the OUTPUT that is receiving your midi date, and let the other unit *(keyboard in this case) in the INPUT 2. Other than that, this unit is pretty much plug and play! Great unit! One more note -- I have to say that sometimes the architecture of different keyboards and modules can be different and they can cause this problem. (It may not be in the midi-merger unit.) So if your unit works without my suggestion, disregard the above. It's just a little quark I ran into with my rig and I'd hate for you to buy this unit and return it thinking it doesn't work if you do too! So if you run into this snag keep my advice in mind. IT'S A GOOD UNIT DOES WHAT IT SAYS.

Works perfectly

By Fred B. from Colorado

I have recently been using a midi daw controller with my focusrite interface and it works great. Issue was that the focusrite has only one midi in/out.i have lots of midi plugins that I use and when I used the daw controller I no longer was able to utilize my midi plugins like addictive drums 2.i received the midi solutions merger and everything is working simultaneously and it is awesome. Thank you so much for such a great product. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing multiple midi inputs.

Great little box

By Kirk from Billings, MT
Music Background: enthusiast

This works like a charm. I needed to merge the MIDI signals from my Roland FC-300 foot controller and my wind controller so both could simultaneously control my external synths. And since I also use my FC-300 to control a loop station, one of the inputs to the Merger comes from a MIDI Solutions Thru box. I wasn't sure if the two would work in tandem. The Thru box powers the Merger box, and so far it works flawlessly.

Another inferior midi product

By Sweetwater Customer

Bought the Midi Merger to send program change midi from my Behringer FCB 1010 pedalboard to my Fractal Axe FX II and Alesis keyboard.
The Midi Merger works with one or the other, but not both.
Plug in two midi output devices and the Midi Merger midi light goes out / is not functional.
A waste of time.....

Great Merger Box

By Nolan P. from Washington

Bought this product and it works exactly as specified. You plug it in, it merges two incoming MIDI signals, and sends them to the two outputs. Immediately solved my problem. Using this box in my setup as follows: MIDI out from Yamaha Reface CS to MIDI in on Merger box, MIDI out from Arturia Keystep to MIDI in on Merger Box, MIDI out from Merger box to MIDI in on Novation Circuit. Be sure to look at the list on Midi Solutions website to ensure that your device will provide enough power for the Merger box to operate.

Solved My Problem

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Composer and recording artist. I play keyboards, guitars, mandolin and vocals original music in the Kansas, Genesis, Yes, Rush style.

The midi merger is exactly what I needed. I wanted to be able to use the sequencer on my M1R while also using my midi controller to play the M1R in real time. Came when promised and performed immediately out of the box. I am very pleased and satisfied.

Super simple product - I have two midi controller keyboards in, and one midi cable out to a Novation Peak. Works perfectly, no observable issues even when hitting keys at the same time. Great product!

MIDI Solutions Merger and Sweetwater.com

By J from Columbus, OH

This box works great and does exactly what it's suppose to. I like the 2 duplicate midi outs for sending the "merged signal", adding additional versatility. I also like the improvement from their former version by adding support for 3.3 volt midi devices. Sweetwater was quick with delivery and almost shockingly great with customer service. Even though this wasn't an expensive piece of gear, they still checked in with me to see whether or not I was satisfied with my purchase and "customer experience".

Incompatible with so many keyboards!!!!

By Scott from Philadelphia
Music Background: Professional Musician

I got this because it looked like a nice, simple way to merge the MIDI outputs of a few keyboards. However, NONE of my keyboards provide the electrical power through MIDI that this thing needs to actually operate, and there's no alternative way to power the thing! If you go on the website, the list of keyboards that have been reported to not provide enough power is MASSIVE - MOST of the MIDI keyboards you might want to use are on this list, making this thing pretty useless. It's a shame because otherwise it seemed like a great solution. They need to figure out a better way to deal with the power requirement, though! Seriously, the list is at least 50 items long - at what point do you, as a company, decide that maybe there's a problem that needs some correcting here?!?

Perfect Solution

By AJDiBianca from Winston Salem, NC
Music Background: Weekend Warrior (Keys & Vocals)

I use 2 keyboards [Kurzweil PC3x & Hammond XK-1c (gigs) or SK-1 (rehearsal)] and needed to control a vocal harmomizer (TC Helicon VoiceLive Touch.) Just connect both keyboards to the MIDI IN side and connect the MIDI OUT to the harmonizer. Voila - total control of harmonies (requires 3 cables total.)

The unit I just received was slightly different than described. It is a newer, upgraded model which has TWO MIDI outputs, not one as advertised. This is my second MIDI Solutions Merger, and was labeled MIDI Solutions Merger 2 (not as shown in picture.) The first has only one output, but works the same way. Now I leave things set up for rehearsal and have another for gigs.

I've used the first MIDI Solutions Merger every weekend plus rehearsals for over 3 years with absolutely no issues (still use it for rehearsal.) I'd say it's certainly road-worthy and has been very reliable. If combining two MIDI outputs into one (or two outputs) then this is what you need. Just buy it.

Works great!

By Sweetwater Customer from Austin, Texas
Music Background: Professional Musician

Since I use two midi controllers for both recording and performance, I needed a device to combine the midi traffic between the two to send messages to multiple VST instruments hosted on my Macbook Pro. The Midi Solutions Merger does exactly what I needed it to do and without latency. The unit gets its power from one of the midi controllers so make sure whatever you are connecting to it supports this.

Works as advertised

By Dave T. from Seattle, WA

I bought this so I could drive my VoiceLive from two keyboards. I set it up at home and worked great, but when I took it to a gig I experienced a small problem that I thought I'd relate in case it helps anyone.

When I hooked it up, I initially got no MIDI into the VoiceLive. I made sure everything was connected properly and it seemed to be. Then I swapped the two cables coming from the synths and the indicator light (which I hadn't previously noticed was there) suddenly came on and I had MIDI happening.

This was because the unit is powered off the MIDI connector, and to my surprise it turns out that not all instruments equipped with a MIDI OUT actually supply DC power. In my case it was a Hammond XK-1 that was incapable of powering the merger box. Fortunately, only the left input needs to supply the power (it's labeled "In 1 (Power)").

So if you hook this up and it doesn't work, look at the power indicator (under the "MIDI" label) and make sure your controller is supplying it with power.

A nice simple solution

By Scott H. from Monclova OH
Music Background: Amateur Musician

My Roland FC-300 midi foot pedal sends sysex commands to my Yamaha S90XS keyboard and to my TC-Helicon Voiceworks vocal harmony box. There is one cable from midi-out of the pedal to the midi-in of the keyboard. The commands from the foot pedal then go out the midi-thru port of the keyboard. However I also need the midi notes from the keyboard midi-out port to reach the TC-Helicon which has just one midi-in port. See the problem? (two outs and one in)
Thus the MIDI Solution Merger to the rescue. I hook my keyboard midi thru and out ports to the MIDI Solutions Merger ports and hook the out cable out to the midi-in port of the Voiceworks box.
