Kenton MIDI USB Host Mk3 USB Host to MIDI Converter
Kenton MIDI USB Host Mk3 USB Host to MIDI Converter Reviews
Got a MIDI device with only a USB port? Want to integrate it into your old-school hardware MIDI rig? If so, the Kenton MIDI USB Host Mk3 makes it simple. This USB host to MIDI converter includes a USB A-type port, along with 5-pin DIN MIDI In and MIDI Out ports. What's more, the MIDI USB Host Mk3 includes three operating modes, whereas its predecessor offered only one. The MIDI USB Host Mk3 is powered by the included 5-volt adaptor, it works with any class-compliant USB MIDI device, and it boasts a rugged and eye-catching brushed-aluminum housing.
Change the Power Supply!!
This worked great with my Roland A-800 MIDI Controller keyboard BUT the keyboard reacted VERY badly to it until I switched out the included power supply for another one (the cable was fine). Until I did that, the poor power was actually causing the keyboard's screen to show a stream of false knob and fader adjustments. Once I changed the power supply, it was solid. I even ran it off of a lithium ion battery USB and it's working great.
NOTE: if you use the Kenton with an A-800, you'll have to go through the A-800's menu and change the USB SETTING / USB ADV DRIVER = OFF. This makes it a MIDI Class Compliant device which is what the Kenton requires. You may have to change this setting back if you have to use the keyboard with a computer.
didn't work for me
Tried it on three different midi (5 pin connector) keyboards.. Didn't work on any of them and I also tried two different computers. My guess is it works fine on some rigs but not on any of mine. ended up buying a usb keyboard.
Game Changer!
Kenton MIDI USB Hub - it's so awesome! Specifically using the Hub to convert USB MIDI from Roland FP60X piano to older style 5-Pin MIDI on Yamaha PSR710 arranger. The Hub does exactly what it's advertised to do and the best thing is there wasn't any menu diving to make it work - just plug it in - no messing around, no manual reading - what other product can you say that about? Thanks Kenton and thanks to Sweetwater for continuing to offer quality cutting-edge products!
Awesome Little Box!
I normally don't do these reviews, but, this product deserves some love! Easiest to use - plug in power, plug in usb device, plug in 5-pin midi cable, connect 5-pin midi cable to midi sound module. Done!
I am using this with the Fishman Triple Play, wireless midi hex pickup, on an Electric guitar. It worked immediately with no configuration whatsoever.. No more dragging a laptop to the rehearsal or gig!
This little box fits right under my pedalboard, nice and tucked out of the way..I'm pretty stoked about it!
I recommend this if you have a newer keyboard controller that you want to connect to midi modules that have 5-pin midi i/o jacks, or, if you also have the Fishman Triple Play.
Kenton USB to MIDI.
I looked for a box like this for several years now. Just plug-in a USB cable and a MIDI cable and you're good to go. Just make sure you're USB device is class compliant.
Awesome Gear!
I needed an interface for my newly purchased Nektar SE25 mini controller keyboard so that I could control two euro rack synth modules via old school midi. I had been looping through my DAW (usb midi) but decided that I wanted to go "off the grid". So now I am going controller direct to synth with computer turned off. The Kenton unit is the perfect solution for my particular set up!
