MIDI Relay Switch with 1 x MIDI Input, 1 x MIDI Through, and 1 x 1/4" Relay Output

The MIDI Solutions Relay is a fast, easy, and low-tech way to trigger non-MIDI devices via MIDI. Just plug the MIDI output of your keyboard, foot controller, or whatever MIDI-driven gear you're running into the Relay's input. After a little set up you can trigger non-MIDI devices from your MIDI controller. Change amp channels, turn on and off effects units, and more. Any device that you can trigger via a 1/4" input can be triggered with the Relay. And since it's even powered by MIDI, you don't have to lug around batteries or a power supply to use your MIDI Solutions Relay.

Works great, but some things to know

By Todd from At my desk at work.
Music Background: Marshal stacks.

I got it to work for what I needed, but it required some fussing.

Frst, great customer support from both Sweetwater and MIDI solutions. They couldn't have been more helpful. Kudos to them.

Second, this is not one of MIDI solutions 'multi-volt' devices. That means its somewhat more picky in what it needs to be plugged into to operate than some of their other devices (Like their MIDI-thur boxes). I own four MIDI interfaces, and none of them would power it. I eventually was able to program it using the MIDI thru from my JUNO-106, but had to buy a new MIDI interface to actually run it in my live rig. If you're interested, it was the Roland UM-one MK2 that worked.

Thirdly, this will close a contact from the ring to the tip of a 1/4" plug, but not supply any voltage to that circuit. So if you want to use it to close the LV side of a solid state relay, you'll need to add an external power supply to that circuit.

Once I got all of that figured out, I was able to switch a 120v AC item using a MIDI signal, which is pretty cool.
