The next level in a dedicated MIDI controller.
I use this controller for what I'm thinking is its most popular use: using a damper pedal at the top of the MIDI chain so the damper pedal controls all keyboards. This works well for me when changing to different keyboards to play different sounds during a song's performance. I used to carry a 25 key controller just to get that once capability. Now this little box attaches with Velcro to my spider stand. For its MIDI power, I have a 1 foot MIDI cable that plugs into the out or thru of my top keyboard. Since I place it at the top of the MIDI chain, one of the program options is to turn MIDI echo off.
But that's just scratching the surface. It is fully programmable. You can program this for MIDI notes, MIDI program changes, or any MIDI signal imaginable. The program software for it is available free on their website if you want to install it and look at its program options.
When I programmed it, their software generated two commands for me. One was to turn echo off and the other was for the damper on/off command. So I just take those two commands at once and send to the controller - and it's PERFECT.
Word to the wise. Before I bought this because it does cost about what a small keyboard controller costs, I found a USB pedal controller on the web. All that does is plug into a portable arranger that doesn't have a pedal port. That was a waste for what I needed. What you need is this MIDI Solutions Footswitch Controller.
They make quite a few unique products. After understanding their software to program this, which you can download and experiment with for free without a device, I want to get the expression pedal controller and internally limit its range so I can make modest volume changes instead of full range from quiet to full.
This is an exceptional piece of equipment!
So much more than a footswitch!
This product, and the technical support team from MIDI Solutions, are incredible. Using the PC application that comes with this along with a USB MIDI PC input you need to get separately (I used FORE MIDI to USB Interface MIDI Cable Adapter), its possible to program lots of cool logic to alter MIDI commands using the footswitch as a control input.
For example, I have a M-Audio Hammer88 MIDI controller keyboard. The keyboard is awesome except for one thing - the only way to change the MIDI channel is via PC software. This is a pain in the neck if you want to quickly switch between different downstream synthesizers quickly.
After talking to MIDI Solutions tech support I learned of command F0 00 00 50 04 09 10 7F F7 which allows the re-channeling of the MIDI channel. For instance, if you depress the footswitch, specify a key from middle C and up to 16 keys up from middle C, then release the footswitch, the outbound MIDI commands will all be modified to the MIDI channel corresponding to the key you pressed. So, middle C is MIDI channel 1, C# is MIDI channel 2, and so on. If you depress and then un-depress the footswitch without hitting any key, then it defaults back to letting all MIDI commands go through without any re-channeling. It's great this device is so flexible like this! This is a cool product from MIDI Solutions and really happy there are people out there working on capabilities like this!

Brought this mini controller solution never could get the program to program it to recognize it bad investment I'm out of a good bit of $ trying to go the route of a demo. Don't think I would be buying any more demo products without knowing more about the product. At first I thought it was me, but after a lot of researching computer, switching by another part to work with found out that it was the controller itself defective no wonder it was a demo do not know how long it was on the shelf as a demo, but I think it had reached this end of lifespan. I would like to say that I have been trying to get this foot switched to Work for almost 4 months now no success.
All of the review that I have seen on line I think it's a good product. I just think that I may have got a hold of a bad one.
