Didn't even last 18 months
I knew I was making a mistake. Deep in my heart, I KNEW that I should not have bought this item. When my friend mentioned that I needed to upgrade my microphone he recommended this as "hands down the best boom arm on the market". I saw the reviews cautioning against buying a boom arm with an embedded cord due to the potential for the cord to go bad and thus introduce a host of other issues. But I pulled the trigger... Guess what? The cord died and I've spent the last few months with a paper weight attached to my desk in the shape of an expensive mic and boom.
The sad thing is that this is a somewhat solid stand. I would recommend a different option.
Very solid stand
This desk boom stand is very solid and sturdy. the reach is great and the movement is good. It is not totally smooth when adjusting and repositioning but is stable once locked into place. The body is metal with the joints and knobs made of a strong polymer. The integral xlr cable is good quality and produces a fairly clean and noiseless signal.
Bad Cable
The boom arm is pretty good. It's pretty stiff but feels sturdy. The cable broke after a year. Unfortunately the cable is not removable without unsoldering the connectors. I'd recommend getting a mic stand that can have the cable replaced rather than this all in one system.
good but
good but when I bend it it just removes the side of my desk, and its too stiff for me needs to be smooth for my gaming
Breaks every 4-10 months
When this stand works it works well. Unfortunately I've had three or four of them fail in the exact same way... when I move the arm the metal tension strip snaps at the base of the unit. I always make sure that the joints are un-tensioned before moving and this still happens once or twice a year. I think this has to do with the fact that they use this strip instead of a series of springs to provide the force that keeps the arm up. Hats off to Sweetwater for replacing it each time but it's a serious drag to be in the middle of a video conference and have your mic drop onto your desk when you move it.
Gator Microphone Stand
The good part, this stand is built like a tank. Strong and robust, even the mounts way heavier duty than I expected. The 10' cable that it comes with saves you $ in additional requirements. I am building a home studio and started with one mic and stand which I'll add to in a couple of months. For my next one, I'm going to go done one notch in this stand line. The springs are stiffer than I'd like and I'd like to stand to adjust easier. One adjusted, this one is super stable but it takes more effort than I'd like to adjust. Build quality is fantastic though.
Good arm, terrible cable
This arm cable added a lot of noise to my setup. It took me a long time until I identified the issue as the cable. Don't bother with this, find something without the cable, get a good one and the flexibility.
Nice boom mic stand. 4.5 star.
The clap mount at the base is a little weak. Fortunately they also included a screw-in base mount (with screws) which worked well.
It comes with a microphone cable that is routed inside the arms, so you get a nice clean look. Seems to be good quality.
Great stand. Cable died after a couple years
Looks clean and built well. But the built in XLR cable started getting a buzzing noise. Thought it was a ground issue until I tried the same mic and interface with a different XLR cable and then the problem was gone. Out of warranty now so I'm stuck with a nice desktop stand and going to have to cut the bad cable out or get a new stand. Mic cables go bad. It happens all the time. Not sure why Gator thought it was a good idea to make it so it can't be replaced.
Boom arm is great...The cable is not good.
Bought in Jan of '22. Its only been plugged in once into my interface. When I took it out to re wire my whole space in July 23, the cable took its one and only fall and didn't work. I soldered it back the best I could, I unplugged it to put it through a Mic mute switch. Wasn't working. Im not a good at soldering but I did it anyway. 2nd time was my fault but I didn't have to do that in the first place for a 100 dollar boom arm. I wish I could just remove it.
Great value
No complaints with this product, it was a lifesaver for my vocal booth. Solidly built, very secure after installation, tough. If you need a small-ish mic arm for a vocal booth, this is the one to get.
Gator Deluxe Boom Arm
Love the Gator deluxe boom arm … I have two now . They are very sturdy , quite and professionally built . Buy it you won't be disappointed!
Plug failure on integrated mic cable
We purchased four of these. Two of the four have failed (open/short resulting in static) at the terminating male plug within 18 months. Both of these plugs had set screws torqued down so tightly we couldn't get the screw out to repair the wire. All four were permanently installed when new on a table used for podcast recording and have seen light usage.
Product not recommended because of wire/plug failures.
Not bad, but not great.
For what this thing costs, I was expecting a little better. One more articulation at the point where the mic mounts would have made this much better. The build quality is adequate but not great. I wish they would have made it easy to disassemble for cord replacement. I was hoping it would be easy to remove the connector and fish the cord through, but no dice. So you're stuck with the length they give you or use an extension.
Look no further
This is the desk arm you've been looking for. Just pay the extra money and get this one instead of the random inexpensive ones
This is super sturdy and reliable. Don't want your mic to fall off your desk? Just get this one and you won't have to worry about it anymore. It just does what it's supposed to.
Nice arm, bad cable
The arm works fine but the cable is completely unusable and no way to replace it out. The item is now out of the return period window so I guess I will cut out the bad cable and run one outside the arm. Kinda the reason I picked this in the first place, no external cable management needed.
Professional Boom
Very sturdy build … adjustable and doesn't shake or move when set. I used the surface mount and I'm very impressed with its strength.
Good Arm, Bad Cablr
The arm is awesome works extremely well with sm7b but the cable is garbage static out the gate they should definitley partner with mogami or offer a way to replace the cable.
Great Piece of Equipment. Thanks Danny!
The Gator arm works great. Holds the Blue Yeti Mic in ideal position.
Gator Microphone Arm
This beauty is perfect for the Shure SM7B. It is a fantastic build, solid and reliable. Does exactly what it needs to do. Highly recommend!
totally impractical
So i loved this for its sturdiness. It is physically mounted to my desk with screws. I loved that the XLR cable goes through it but guess what? It's been 5 months and suddenly I have a very loud buzz in my recording of room noise. I thought it was the audio interface but it's the XLR cable. Now I'm stuck with a dangling XLR cable. Also there is NO pop filter that fits this desktop mounting arm. More thrown out money.
I expected a better mic cable.
This mic stand looks great and I find it plenty robust to hold my mic (Rode Pod Mic). But what I'm most disappointed in is the cable itself. It doesn't have a super snug fit in the back of the mic and the connectors just feel super low budget.
It looks possible to take the arm apart and replace the cable with something more robust. But I would have expected better.
Best mic boom I've ever owned
I should have gotten this sooner. I record voice-over every day from two different DAWs depending, and this long boom arm makes it quick and comfortable to adjust to whatever I'm doing. Love the internal cable design. I put up with the rickety, noisy spring booms for a long time and this was just what I needed. A satisfied customer.
Way more boom then I need, but it is nice to not have to worry about it.
I could have probably got away with a cheaper boom arm, but it is so nice that this one stays exactly where i put it, makes very little noise. Opens me up to do other things on my stream. I am no longer afraid of touching my boom just to prevent very loud spring noises from making it to my listeners. I purchased this for streaming and the clean look of no XLR cable running down the arm is a nice look as well.
Just what I needed
I bought this to replace a cheap mic boom I'd been using for seven or eight years. This is a lot better than the oid one. Smooth, secure, and none of the exposed springs that could send vibrations through the shock mount to the mic. And it's a lot better looking.
Gw3000
Awesome product and works like a charm and according to description....
Solves space problems
It works well in my small space because it eliminates using space for a floor stand. And easily positions the mic for video use, Zoom calls etc. It's solid, and uses good components for the cost. There is a mic cable installed internally, it gives a clean look - although I don't know if it can be replaced easily. There are two mounting options, a clamp, and a threaded 'foot' you can screw directly into a desk to make it permanent. The only drawback is that since this is attracted to a surface, if you bump the surface, the mic pics up the vibrations - it's not decoupled from the surface. It depends on the rigidity of whatever you've got it mounted on. Overall it solved my issues with space availability and using a voice over mic for video.
Gator Mic Boom—works great.
This really saves me a lot of set up time & effort & CLUTTER. It swings out of my way when I'm not recording & is ready in seconds when I am. Mic cable integral to the boom keeps things neat. No sag under weight of the mic(s) no matter the boom angle.
I bought one and immediately bought a 2nd one
I bought this to replace another one of the cheap ones with scissor arms ... The pictures do not show that this also comes with a screw into the top of the table top surface mount which is excellent and beats a clamp on model in my opinion providing drilling three holes in your surface is not a prohibitive action. Fabulous better than 5 stars
Almost was good...
I like the size, the big logo on the side was whatever.... but one of the swivel handles was stripped when I got it, so I would have to deal with it being completely upright only. I'm going to replace it. If the new one works, then I think this is a good product...
Awesome
Great for my studio desk . I saved a lot on space and convenient for recordings.
Boom Arm
I worked in radio for a lot of years, there I had to use the other brands. Now that I have gotten my own
it is easy to say this is off the chart. Looks cool and gets the job done. I would highly recommend this for
your studio. Worth the Price.
overly stiff, no mic swivel
i wanted a cleaner and more sturdy boom arm just for online conversations, and talkback, but this does not work at all. the middle hinge is extremely stiff, and twisting the clamp to lock it in place barely works. there is no mic swivel, meaning wherever your mic lands when you screw it in, whatever direction it is facing. you are stuck with. facing backward? you're screwed. to the left? screwed. you get the point. i like the design outside of the large logo on the side, i'd rather it be clean black. i have nothing positive to say about this product.
Good value
Works good for the money. Much more visually pleasing than some of the others out there. I feel like it needs 1 more pivot point by the mic end to adjust mic angle, but maybe I'm just dreaming.
Just what I needed
I do live streams on Facebook playing guitar and singing. I had another boom arm that wouldn't stay in place using my Rode NT2 A and I was getting really frustrated. I have an MXL 4000 that I really wanted to use but the previous arm would in no way be able to handle it. I saw this product on the Joe Rogan podcast and called my sales engineer to inquire about it. The description says it will hold up to 3.4 lbs and the MXL weighs 2.6 lbs so I ordered it and I couldn't be happier. Holds the MXL nice and steady with no droop lol. Great product!!!
Needs improvement.
I think that this mic stand is terrible. It randomly creaks and won't tighten very much, leading to it going up and extending out of nowhere. I wish they did better on the springs, or whatever tightens this because it is really bad for $... I'm pretty p***** off because I need this for school purposes and gaming.
Fantastic Boom Arm, Be Wary of the Joints and Length
Honestly, I'll never need to buy another mic arm again if this doesn't break. I absolutely love the build quality on it, and it keeps position super well.
My only complaints are that it's *way* longer than I expected, so for my small dorm room I had to adjust things a it, and that the joints are SUPER stiff because of the springs holding things in place, which wouldn't be a problem so much if I wasn't in a dorm.
Super great product, well worth the money. Build quality is A+.
Clamp will Strip
I liked the look and feel of the Arm the Aesthetics matched my setup, but sure enough after a couple of movements the clamp stripped. I am hoping there is a replacement of I can use a generic clamp!
Great!
Very sturdy and does what it needs to do. I got it for my SM7b. It holds it easily. Definitely better than the Rode version. The only thing is the cable that it came with is inside of the the metal casing. I use Mogami cables and nothing else, so I ended up cutting the cable off that it came with. I'm sure there's a way to get the cable out properly, but I'm impatient.
Love it!
I bought this so I could more easily set myself up for online lessons without either A) always needing an intrusive boom stand on my desk, or B) long setup/breakdown times. I teach mostly on Zoom since COVID-19, so I set the broadcast boom up just out of frame when teaching for easy talking/demoing for students, and when I'm not teaching, I can simply swivel it out of the way and push the boom straight up. Super handy, and makes for a clean, professional desk setup.
Really like it
So, the box says it supports 4.4 pounds weight.
I am able to use it in combination with an iPad holder to hold a 2015 iPad-Pro 12.9.
Seems like it would also be useful to have a short Triad Orbit mic adaptor mini or micro to give it more room for tilt.
Still it works great and does what I wanted it to do, which is hold the iPad were I want it.
Just have the mic cables wrapped up and out of the way to use it for the iPad and iPhone.
Excellent Boom!!!
I don't normally write reviews but for this item I really felt the need. I have several different booms in my studio and they all loosen up, are clunky, don't extend far enough, etc. This boom however is built extremely well and includes a well mode XLR cable pre-routed through the arms. I will definitely be buying more to replace my others. Great job!!!
Excellent!
Sturdy and light, well-built, and it works perfectly. The joints all have dials to adjust resistance, and once you dial them all in it's easy to move and bend the arm to any reachable position. The price is excellent for the quality.
Perfectly for my use
I got this stand because I needed something that really stuck in place and had a clamp at the base. I have a desk with a slightly slanted edge, so I needed something to control direction at the base so it wouldn't turn. This was the only mic stand I found that had that.
It has worked perfectly for me so far; in about two months of using it I haven't had any problems with it, all the joints have worked well and it has stayed basically in place. You really have to make sure that the joints are loose before you move them, otherwise you will move the clamp as well, but as long as you do that it works swimmingly.
Stiff elbow
The Elbow does not bend
