Beyond that, the MG50GFX supplies you with a 2-button footswitch, switchable effects loop, built-in tuner, and a line input for music players. Emulated headphone and line outputs are also onboard. Part of Marshall's MG Gold series, the MG50GFX is great for the studio and the stage.

Sounds great.

By LG205 from Florida
Music Background: Old time rocker who played in bands in the 80s

I've owned Marshall tube amps in the past years ago and always loved the sound. I had stopped playing for 40 plus years and just recently got back into it. This amp is all you'll need as far as power and portability. Effects loop works well too as well as the built-in effects it cokes with. A special shout out to sales engineer Chris McCown for answering questions and checking up on gear I have chosen.

Great little Amp.

By JP

Needed a little amp for a wedding gig. Small venue and didn't want to bring my half stack or unplugging my Cortex from studio setting, so bought this on a whim. Got all the 80's & 90's tones I needed for set list. Good little amp for the money.
Thanks to salesman John for getting it here in time, much appreciated brother!

For the price, AMAZING tones and variation

By James J. from South Carolina
Music Background: Just love to jam to the 70s and 80s genre. Plus my own music.

Can't beat this amp, especially considering the reasonable price for such great quality. It is built solid and has several tone options and comes with a foot switch that is easy to use. A studio environment or small club venue is perfect for this beast. Don't doubt yourselves, get this amp !!

Perfect Size and Power

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Retired professional musician

I purchased my Marshall MG50GFX a few weeks ago. It arrived at my house and I only had about 40 minutes to unpack it, plug it in and make sure it worked before I took it to practice for a gig. The size is excellent for portability and really sounds sweet with my Les Paul. I love the FX features that allowed me to get rid of a couple of petals. Sound quality is excellent for a 12" speaker. I normally play out of a Marshall JCM 900 with a 1960a bottom. I love that amp but I have to tell you in the recent years with miching everything down this Marshall MG50GFX rig is my go to now and the JCM 900 is gonna be staying home. I also love the selection of clean, crunch , OD one and OD two for my overdrive. One last thing spend the extra $ and get the programmable pedal. It makes changing to preset sounds easy. It also has a tuning feature as well. So far no complaints.

By Evan O. from rancho cucamonga, CA

best digital amp on the market and priced well ive used this amp for a few months now and its seamless with my plug ins and interface, the built in OD is okay but this thing really shines in bar gigs and backyard shows plus enough control to practice without off my neighbors. easy 5 stars.

Marshall MG50FX

By DV from OH
Music Background: Years of playing and still learning !

Don't need to go over the specs as those are laid out in the description for all to see .I will say this amp is powerful for being solid state .This is more than enough for me to have in my room.I know this would be perfect for small clubs and bars even without a PA.The clean channel is very smooth with chorus in my opinion.I do like the effects that are on board ,but I don't use that many.I haven't had a Marshall amp in years and that classic sound is still there.I think the price is perfect for this size and love the financing.

Alternative Amp

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Been playing guitar seriously since 1979. Rhythm, Bass, Lead, Lapsteel. Have a personal studio at home, I make backing tracks for people at church. I play Gospel, Country, Pop, Light Rock, Blues, Jazz...

I have 3 Fender Amps and needed something with a different sound. Mostly home studio work so this size, shape and sound fit the bill. I recommend this amp to everyone. Other amps are nice, but nothing beats that Marshall sound.

Could not be happier

By matthew t. from SANTA FE, NM
Music Background: Amateur on and off again mostly on for the past 35 years

I received my Marshall MG50GFX Saturday morning the 8th of April. A little background, the reason why I ordered this amp is because I've been playing out of my Fender Deluxe. Obviously, I love my Fender amp,all tube amp sounds phenomenal. However, I also know that it's not good to keep turning it on and off or to leave it dormant while it's on for long periods of time. That's why I ordered the Marshall. During the weekdays, I'll sit and watch sports and noodle with my guitar . Sometimes I can set it down for up to a half hour and then pick it up again . That's why I wanted the solid state .I can turn that solid state on leave it on with no issues and the amp sounds simply awesome. I actually consider myself very lucky to have the two amps that I have because they're both phenomenal. The effects, the face of the Marshall amp couldn't be easier to use. And as always, Sweetwater gets everything out in a timely manner and they don't mess around. Your stuff gets to you as quick as possible, guaranteed.

Great sound and feature set...

By GEO from Here
Music Background: was on vinyl records and TV before you were born

Yes, it sounds and behave and FEELS like my real old tube Marshall 100 watt heads.

I love the modern features: Effects send and return, speaker emulated out. The effects are better than OK, but you can get any effect you want because these take pedals in front very well, and FX send/returns allow post preamp verbs, delays or other time based effects.

The small size is good, but these could be made more compact and MUCH lighter.

My thoughts

By Sweetwater Customer

Really solid amp!Excellent for clean sounds! One downside is that the distortion is a little weak for metal so I would recommend getting a distortion pedal if you're picky with distortion levels like me.

Great Little Amp!

By David
Music Background: Rocker

Owned 3 Marshall practice amps over the years and this is the best! The 4 channels are perfect for what I play. Enjoy the phaser/flanger. The response from the preamp is really tight. And then there's that Marshall crunch. If you like classic, blues-based hard rock / metal like I do, I don't see how you can go wrong here. This 1x12 is small enough to be lightweight, but sturdy... as in the foot pedal construction. Not some cheap plastic here. I also appreciate the simplicity and ease of use of the interface. Great little amp for the price. Only thing I could find was the delay effect is not as strong as my Blackstar 2x10. But the Marshall outperforms in everything else. I'm a Marshall fan for sure. I've only used this amp for a month, but I love it. And the people at Sweetwater always come through for me.

Good Amps but let me tell you

By Jim S.
Music Background: Playing all my life, love it

These are good amps and the CFX and GFX models are essentially the same a few updates possibly in the latter in my CFX I had a low rattle sound and I replaced the Speaker. With Celestion Super 65 for about $70 the amp now sounds better than I could have hoped for. The electronics are great if you don't get a bad speaker like me then you'll be good. But they all don't sound the same. I have a 15CFX and a 50CFX the 15sounds good but not like the 50CFX Buy it you'll love it

Excellent Amp!

By Steve S. from Florida
Music Background: Amateur guitarist playing for 45 years

Sounds great. Much more powerful than I need. Don't really need my pedals anymore either. (Seriously, I am going to remove some of my pedals from my board for simplicity.). The reverb on this amp is excellent. The distortion channels are great. I really like having the headphone output for quiet practice. I plugged a Bluetooth receiver into the input jack to play along with music wirelessly from my iPhone. I anticipate consistency and reliability from this solid state amp. Marshall reputation is a plus. Fit and finish is excellent. Sweetwater buying experience has been awesome.

I made a mistake Confused MG50CFX with MG50GFX

By Peter N. from TN - Tennessee

I made a mistake and confused my Marshall MG50CFX with this newer model MG50GFX. I suspected that the "G"at my amp was not in my model's name but did not look and verify my suspicions. I give you permission to not publicize the review I posted yesterday on the Marshall MG50GFX and of course this review. Not that you need my permission. I just want you to know that I did follow up and realized my mistake and then got back to you.
Thanks,
Peter Nelson

Very satisfied

By Danny from Ohio
Music Background: Guitar hobbyist

This is my second purchase from Sweetwater and I can tell you I'm very happy. I first bought an Epiphone Les Paul tribute plus guitar and the set up from Sweetwater was perfect. Brad Irvan my sales engineer was very helpful and did not steer me wrong . I told Brad I was going to need a new amp and he told me you want to plug your Les Paul into a Marshall . So I bought the Marshall 50 gfx as I am just learning electric guitar, and needed to learn set up on amps to get the sound I want. The amp has that low to mid punch tone I was looking for. I love the gear I purchased and highly recommend Sweetwater music to anyone looking for gear. Big thanks to Brad for the advice and follow up on my gear.

Be careful!

By Sahan U.
Music Background: Sound engineer

Be careful guys! Youtube videos of this amp don"t show how it sounds in real. I have a 2555x head, a jvm410 head, a 1987x head, a dsl20hr head, a jmd 50 head and a valvestate 100 combo, also a 1960a lead cab. I wrote this for you to understand that this review comes from a guy who knows what to expect from a Marshall not to brag about the gear I have. The highest gain this amp can produce is exactly as 1987x, it is way behind dsl, jvm or silver jubilee, if you are in to high gain tones than this amp will be a total disappointment but it will make you happy if you are into blues or mild crunch tones. I tried it with the stock speaker and also with the 1960a cab I have and the result is same. Od2 channel is very muddy, almost unusable to my taste, od1 channel is way way low in gain, you can"t get a high gain sound from it even with a cranked overdrive pedal infront of it. The clean channel is just ok but not something special, crunch channel is exactly a jvm channel 2 in red mode when cranked. This is the only usable channel if you are in to blues. Summary: buy if you are a blues guy, stay away if you are a rocker and run away if you are a metal guy!

Good... for a solid state amp.

By Dennis from Brazil
Music Background: Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Pearl Jam

I've owned the MG15CFR (just reverb) and it sounded GREAT for a small amp. The distortion was great, very tight and with good definition. There was a lack of low end on it, but that's because of the size of the speaker, of course. Then I wanted the same quality in a large amp, with 12 inch speaker and lots of low end: so I bought the MG50CFX (it is pretty much the same as the MG50DFX...). The clean has a good low end and high end, but the knobs aren't so useful, as you need to turn all the way to hear the difference. The crunch channel is ok: it has too much bright and sounded a little fuzzy to me if you pass the 12 o'clock at the gain knob. You have to use well the EQ system to make the crunch channel useful. The OD1 and OD2 are, indeed, the frustrating point on this amp, for me. I imagine they tried to emulate the DSL overdrive channel on the MG series, but you can see that THIS ONE is a solid state amp. It's not terrible, but at the same time, it is worst than any good overdrive pedal you can get. The good news is that the clean channel takes pedals just fine, and even the crunch channel has some use depending on what pedal you are using. For the price and the weight of this amp, I'm not sure if it's the best choice for bedroom practicing or record sessions. All thought, if you need to practice with you band and don't mind carrying it, and if you have good pedals too, you can try this amp out.

Rock Solid, Rockin' Combo!

By Conor M. from Hermitage, PA
Music Background: 30+ years playing music and guitar; pro and semi pro once upon a time.

Hello again Sweetwater folks! I've had this combo for over a week now, but have been familiar with the MG series since it was launched. I've run the gamut as far as amp brands are concerned and have come back to Marshall again for a practice amp and to save the wear & tear on my Blackstar HT Club 40 combo. I gotta admit that with all the tone chasing I have done over the years, I had to make myself realize the tone I'd been chasing was Marshall! I want to give a realistic review of this amp, which is an AMAZING amp in its own right. Especially when you consider the pricepoint AND that it's a SOLID STATE amp... I'll be totally honest, really the main reason I can't give this 5 stars really comes down to minor gripes and that the series hasn't really changed much over the CFX series it's replacing. Electronically, it's really the same amp and it's a GREAT ONE. Overall this is an incredible sounding amplifier, especially when you consider it's a solid state amplifier with all analog circuitry and tone stack. The gain is all analog, which really gives this amp a natural, creamy, CLEAN gain sound, even when it's pushed to the max on OD-2. Now, what I mean by clean gain is that the amp really gets thicker and fatter sounding without any over the top fizziness or fuzz in the gain. The gain always sounds creamy and singing, just like a Marshall! but it's very clean and musical. It is never so over the top that it's unusable or not musical. Also, this amp is a fantastic baseline for really developing your sound with various pedals and guitars. I have a range of guitars from very clean, low output to metal machines. This amp responds to each of them transparently, letting that guitar's natural voice shine through. That's remarkable for a solid state!
Another thing I really loved about the amp was that it is incredibly touch-sensitive to attack and volume/tone knob changes. This is especially true of guitars with more dynamic pickups in them. It's remarkably tube-like for a solid state! Now, it's not as SUBTLE as a tube amp would be and isn't quite as organic and barky like a great valve Marshall or valve amp in general, but really this is as close as I've EVER heard in the 30+ years I've been playing guitar!! That's saying something that I take really seriously. Really, this is a very dynamic amp, especially on the Crunch Channel. The Reverb and FX sound great and are really nice for an amp in this range. The optional 4-button MG footswitch is a MUST HAVE for these MG's!!!! It really opens up this amp. The tone stack is incredibly sensitive and usable, and is responsive to any instrument going through it. I especially love the ample bottom end and very usable midrange, which adds to that Marshall singing tone. The channels range in tone from the cleanest JTM 45's ( clean), to the esteemed Plexi's (crunch), to the JCM 800 and 900 range ( OD1 in my thoughts) and the modern style, compressed, more midrange-driven gain (OD2). This can easily do anything from the cleanest pop or Jazz (I've done it, guys), to classic rock crunch and metal tones.
Now, to the gripes...and really they are minor. First I find, in my opinion, that there really isn't an insane amount of gain on this amp. The differences between OD-1 and OD-2 really are the tone stack and voicing, not necessarily the amount of gain on tap. However, it's all usable and great sounding. I have to give it that. It really is a great foundation for pedals. I could do with OD-2 being more of a lead tone voicing with more gain rather than the more metal, modern, very tight, chug and djenty crunch. To me, with the FDD damping switch, OD1 can easily do that tone with twists of the tone stack knobs and a cranking the gain. The Damping switch give a really tight metal tone and it's really cool to use when needed. Also, the line hasn't changed a whole lot fundamentally and it's what I have come to expect from Marshall. Really these are personal preferences, but I do think the channels could use some updating in minor ways to make it truly REMARKABLE.
But, all in all, I can't complain about the great tones coming out of this Marshall Mg series! It is a wonderful amp that you need to play to believe. It's surprisingly versatile for a Marshall! I could get any tone I really wanted with guitar changes and tone tweaks and it has that great British rock sound so synonymous with much of the rock and early metal music.
Again this is such a well-built, reassuringly heavy, great sounding amp that I have no qualms about saying I'd rely on this as a gigging amp. It's really LOUD and can easily handle gigs if needed. This sounds remarkably valve-like, responds like a great valve amp in so many ways and has great sounding FX to boot! What's not to love? Also, it has the tones I've come to love over the years. I hope this review helps! You really can't go wrong with any MG series amp! I do encourage anyone looking at them to go out and PLAY them. The videos online really don't do them justice and I really don't understand the bad press this range has received over the years. Definitely check this one out! It really is a rock-solid, rockin' combo!

This is great!

By Trev M. from Aurora, IL
Music Background: Rock Musician for 46 years

So I gave my Marshall MG50FX -- 50 watt combo amp a workout today.

But first, you have to remember what I use it for. I need this on the other side of the stage from me. It is connected from my pre-amp' out' .. of my EVH EL34 rig into the guitar input of the Marshall. The Marshall has to be set up with absolutely no effects whatsoever, no overdrive at all. It needs to be set up with a "Totally" Clean sound, this way, the sound and effects from my EVH rig comes through the Marshall all the way over the other side of the stage.
For me, It basically acts as an extension speaker to my EVH rig, but with its own volume control. (something you cannot do with a second extension cabinet).

It has a 'send and return' for my noise filter pedal, though trying it out today, its as clean as a whistle with no hiss. I am totally happy with it for gigs. I am glad I got this.

As for all the in-bulit effects that are variable, it has: .. (Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Univibe and Phase) it also has 4 channels Clean, Overdrive 1 & 2, & Crunch. Just for kicks, I tried it on all channels with various effects, this is quite an AMP!!.. It also has a store mode to save settings etc.. and one other thing I liked, a 'damper' switch, this switches between classic amp sound (tubes) and modern amp sound (transistor). It has a foot switch too. Can you get Eddie's "Brown Sound" out of it?.. yup.. with ease!!

It can make for an excellent practice amp too (though I have many practice amps).

Like I say, this will be used primarily for my gigs as I explained above. I love it!!

Thanks as always to "Sweetwater's" Ed Nystrom for taking care of my needs over the years!
