Marshall MG15GR 1x8" 15-watt Combo Amp with Reverb Reviews

15-watt, 2-channel 1x8" Guitar Combo Amplifier with 3-band EQ, Digital Reverb, Line In, and Speaker-emulated Line/Headphone Outs

The MG15GR is loaded with pure Marshall tone. You get your choice of Clean and Overdrive channels that you can shape with a 3-band EQ. You also get an integrated digital spring reverb effect. Best of all, each channel's settings are storable and recallable. The MG15GR is loud enough to rattle the windows during practice sessions, while its revolutionary solid-state design convincingly emulates a tube amp's tone and response. Beyond that, the MG15GR supplies you with a line input for music players and emulated headphone and line outputs. Part of Marshall's MG Gold series, the MG15GR is a great-sounding practice amp.

Awesome Amp!

By Devin from Frederick, MD on January 9, 2024 Music Background: Multi-instrumental musician who also writes, mixes, and masters.

I was a little worried about the speaker being only a 1x8 when I ordered it, but not anymore!

My electric guitar is an Ibanez hollow body and has a fairly dark tone. I've always loved the way it sounds with the upper mid boost of a Marshall amp, but never bought one of my own until now. Plugged the guitar direct in, switched to the overdrive channel, left the eq straight up, and set the gain to the edge of breakup. Absolutely perfect Marshall tone. Works great with a pedalboard too.

Would I recommend this to someone playing a tele or other bright sounding guitar? Maybe. You may have to do some eq wizardry to get the full low end. However, for a hollow or semi hollow, this thing will chug! It sounds full without being muddy. I haven't yet tried it for recording, but I think it mic up really well!

As always, thank you Tyler!

NICE AMP - SOUNDS GREAT!

By Jeffrey Nowotarski from Las Vegas, NV on July 6, 2023 Music Background: Beginner

Great little amp for my 1st purchase. Plenty loud enough to practice with. That's all I need as a beginner. No problems with the purchase. Thanks, Camden Uhazy! Thanks, Sweetwater!

Great Practice Amp

By Scott from Mount Pleasant,SC on September 12, 2020 Music Background: Experienced

I've had a few amps but as I moved from a single family home eventually to a two bedroom condo I needed less power. I bought an Orange Crush 20RT which I liked but I wanted a Marshall sound. Even though this is solid state, it is plenty loud and versatile. Surprisingly it retains a good bottom end for only having an 8" speaker and 15 watts. When gain is cranked it still maintains clarity. Simple layout with no need for computer wizardry. Just a very nice simple practice amp with reverb that, yep sounds like a Marshall. Clean channel is nice and warm. Very good for jazz sounds.

Marshall Tone At An Affordable Price

Not mush to say, it's just a nice affordable amp.

Great portable amp!

By Robert Bryant from Greenfield, IN on April 2, 2020 Music Background: I'm on the lifetime learning plan! Love it!

Great little amp. The reverb isn't too bad either. It's no twin reverb but for a small practice amp, I'm happy with it! It has a heavy gain and plenty loud for practice. Not the Marshall monster twin stack I often dream of, but I have no buyers remorse at all. Just what I wanted. Easy grab and go!

Perfect practice/ jam amp. Wide tonal range!!

By Brian Block from MN on March 14, 2020

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR!!
I have a Vox AC4, and an Ampeg VT-22. Both wonderful amps with plenty of tonal range.but i Wanted something ( without tubes) that could have a clean tone and still be able to add reverb and overdrive. Awesome Amp, could not be happier. My wife loves the headphone output. Hopefully pic below can give a good idea of size.

Don't Listen To Critics; Try It Yourself

By Sweetwater Customer on September 12, 2019

Compared several amps, and have also owned several in just about every price range and this one's definitely one of the best in its price range. I wanted something somewhat portable, yet not digital, and something that I can control the volume easily with. Tried an Orange Crush 35RT, but it sounds like complete mud unless you turn it way up. And it is stupid loud. That destroys the purpose of it being a bedroom / practice amp. Many people talk trash about the Marshall MG series of amps, but I think those people are #1 misinformed and #2 just making assumptions because it's solid state. The versions of these MG amps with the built in digital effects do indeed sound like garbage, but the ones without are fully analog, and they sound GREAT, especially for what they are. Yes it is a solid state.... What do you expect? This amp is quite flexible. You'll be surprised at the range of sounds you can get simply by tweaking the EQ. I love the on the edge of breakup sounds it can get as well as the twang. If you reduce all of the EQ settings you can actually raise the volume without blowing the windows out. Last but not least, every guitar I own (I have 8) sounds completely different from each other through this, which is something that is often not very common with amps like these. The only amp in the price range that I could say gives the MG15 a run for its money I'd say would be a Micro Cube.

Marshall 15GR

By Len from PA. on June 25, 2021

Great little Amp!, I am playing a used 2019 G&L Legacy that I just bought at a local Music store, And a old 1992 Fender Montara Acoustic/Electric through this amp. I play it on Clean with Whatever reverb and EQ settings I like, And here is the good part... I am 85% deaf And I can hear every freakin' note on volume 3, On Both guitars, Everything sounds crisp and clear to me,( with whoever has really good hearing this amp should sound killer LOL ) I have not played since 2003 because of a demanding job, I am now retired and can have fun again, I can't say much about the distortion settings , As what I play does not require that. My only reason for the 4-1/2 Stars is the short electric cord, It should come with a 6 ft. cord. Other then that I think That is a Very Good Amp for the money!

Great Little Amp!

By Jerry Combest from Longview, TX on September 20, 2019

I'd been playing through a modeling amp for some time and finally tired of it. Nothing against modeling, really; just needed a change of pace. The Marshal MG15GR turned out to be just the amp I needed. Great sound and all the volume I need for practice or getting together to play with friends. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 rather than a 5.0 is the (approx.) 3-ft. power cord. It's a little short for my needs. But I just picked up a 3-ft extension cord that will solve that minor shortcoming. That said, I heartily recommend this amp for the purposes I mention.
Also have to give Dontae at Sweetwater a solid 5-out-of-5 stars for outstanding service in every way each time I call or email!

More than I expected

By Jeri on June 14, 2022

I didn't expect all that much for $ but I have been pleasantly surprised. It's very responsive, has a good overdrive sound and reverb as well. It has a short power cord but otherwise, it packs great sound in a small lightweight amp that won't stomp on your bank account. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Nice little amp

By Russ from Midwest on October 11, 2018

For what it is, this is a really nice little practice amp. It's got the classic Marshall tone and it gets plenty loud. Loud enough to practice anyway. I wouldn't recommend an amp this size for playing with a drummer. Sounds like common sense to me... If you like Marshall and need a small practice amp this is great. The reverb is pretty good as well.

Pracice Amp

By Mike from SoCal on August 19, 2020

This is a great little low volume practice amp for home use. Nice basic reverb. Nice basic overdrive. For me this amp shines when you dime the volume on the clean channel. You get that good Marshall blues rock over dive sound. Good amp and affordable. Matt Fawcett at Sweetwater made sure I was taken care of. Great customer service as always from Matt.
