Parts break very easily

By Keith C. from Studio City, CA
Music Background: Studio engineer

I have one of these that I use in my vocal booth and for drum overheads and I'm having to buy replacement parts for the threads breaking every 3-6months with just regular use. Would be an amazing stand if it wouldn't break! Very frustrating to own.

Can't beat it for the price

By David from Baltimore

I needed a stand like this for my sphere mic. This stand works great I can safely have the mic above my head and at an angle.
Easy to move around and no toppling over. I would recommend at this price point a no brainer. Will it stand up to heavy use?
Not sure but for my requirements its perfect.

Save yourself the money and buy an atlas

By Joshua from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Producer/songwriter

While this is similar to an atlas in function it is nowhere remotely close to it in the quality.

The pieces are flimsy and the the threads constantly come loose.

Parts that break aren't available on the ultimate support site.

Do yourself a favor and save up for the atlas, you will not regret it.

Would not recommend -- broke, replaced and still not staying locked down.

By Quincy from Portland, OR
Music Background: Artist / Producer

It broke about a year after I bought it - the main handle stopped locking down. Thankfully Sweetwater replaced it. Now after a couple of months of the new replacement, it just doesn't lock down properly no matter what I do. It feels loose in multiple places and seems to barely be able to hold up my mic. If it is nudged, it just drops down like it's loose. And it's not even a very heavy mic (Manley Ref C).

I've tried different angles to get it tight -- with my experience with video production and C-Stands, there's one way where it loosens itself and another way where it tightens itself. But with this stand, it just doesn't tighten properly and seems to be a problem with how it is built.

It has been disappointing experience with this product and I would definitely not recommend it.

I Trust This Stand!

By Rob R. from Cincinnati, Ohio
Music Background: Emmy award winning composer, singer, guitarist, producer, podcaster, voice actor.

I've used the old Atlas BS-36W in the past but I really prefer the look and performance of the MC-125. The wheels lock easily and positively; the extensions, both vertical and horizontal are easy to grip and they hold exceptionally well. I own two of them and I'm not afraid to hang my U87s, RCA 77-DXs, and even an RCA 44BX on them. It's a totally solid stand for getting mics where they need to go without interfering with floor space that is needed for music stands or other people.

I recommend this stand highly!

Good value, but not the best stand

By Brian G. from SOUTH WEBER, UT
Music Background: Musician, engineer

Good: Sturdy, good reach, nice look, love the wheels. Easy to assemble. Well weighted.
Bad: There's no way to lock the threads so the main pole comes unscrewed from the base way too easily. The main crank to lock in the tilt strips easily. The sleeve you grab to extend the main pole up, or the arm out doesn't always catch and you're just turning it endlessly with no actual grab so nothing happens. Does not roll on carpet. The clips to keep cables attached to the mic stand poles leave a lot to be desired.
Overall, these are a pretty good value. Just be careful not to over-tighten anything and prepare for some frustrations when trying to extend the arm. And if you're dead set on having all your cables stay in line with the pole and arm, look elsewhere. The cable clips were clearly an afterthought at best.

Quality mics Must have an equally quality stand. I've always wanted one
And now I have 2 and will get more as needed. And the make you
They make your space and you look like you know what you're doing,ha. It's like putting bad strings on .really great guitar. Pay the money the right way.

Good for stationary setups, but does not like frequent adjustment

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought three of these, and on one of them the plastic collar for the skinny telescoping tube broke with very little force. On another stand, the threads became damaged on the large boom hub and needed replacement parts. These are great for set-and-forget setups, but I'm afraid they are not robust if mic setups need to change. I would recommend spending a little more for the latch lake offerings, etc.

Best Mic Stand!

By Steven J. from Upstate New York
Music Background: Audio Engineer/Artist

I'm not exactly sure why some people choose to hate on this mic stand?
It does everything you would want a mic stand to do and then some.
Plus it's also built like a freaking tank! It's super heavy but it has wheels on the bottom so it's pretty easy to move it around. Yes, it's more expensive than regular mic stands but this one will actually hold and protect your investment without falling over and also looking pretty dang good in the process as well! Lol.
I have owned this stand for a few years now and all my clients love it, as do I! 5 stars and gonna eventually buy some more.

Good while it lasted.

By Mike B. from LAKELAND, FL

I've had this stand for a few years used primarily for drum overheads. It was a fine stand for a bit but the arm fell of in my hands yesterday. If i had not been there to catch it the arm would have hit a kick drum with a tube condenser on the end of it. Not ideal.

Do not buy!

By Alex H. from Nashville
Music Background: Engineer/Producer

I had this stand for one day and it almost broke my mic and grand piano. The boom easily dissembles itself when rotating the stand causing the boom that has the weight to become unscrewed and loosened leaving the stand to just fall apart. If they would fix that one thing it would become a great stand but all it currently does is steal peace of mind that my gear and mics are secure which is the whole reason we buy these heavy duty stands.

Save your money, time and precious gear folks and buy a different stand.

Studio Boom MIc Stand - Shocked

By Sweetwater Customer

Totally shocked at how great this is for the money. We all know Ultimate and their work but this particular piece is quite surprising as to how great it is, compares w/ Atlas and others that are 4x the price. I wish I had a use for more of them.

Three issues with these stands

By Bruce H. from Ashland, OR
Music Background: College music major. Retired from law ten years ago and picked up my flute. Converted a large room into a studio. Love composing, improvising, arranging and producing.

I own 3. Issues:
1. Once, a boom clutch suddenly fell off the stand, bringing down the boom and its attached two mics.
2. Two of the plastic locks have broken.
3. It is entirely too easy to unintentionally tighten plastic locks so much that it is nearly impossible to unlock them. Conversely, it's easy to unintentionally think you've tightened them enough when in fact you haven't.
4. (I never said I was good at math.)
5. When you bring the post up high, the stand gets pretty tippy. It would not be hard to knock one over.

Otherwise, it's not a bad stand.

TRASH

By Jonathan from Franklin North Carolina
Music Background: Recording Artist and songwriter

I got this mic stand for my Manley Reference Mic. It was a great stand in the beginning, But after about 2 Months of use it really started to fall apart. The raising/lowering function on this stand is absolute dogshit. If you over tighten it its almost impossible to get it to break free. Idk mine might be defective but even when barley tightening it i am still having issues here. I've had to locktight the bottom of the screw on pole into the rolling stand cause it kept unscrewing, along with the top part (refer to picture) because it kept FALLING APART. Luckily i have fast reflexes or my $ microphone would be broken!!! Idk how this mic stand has so many good reviews but BEWARE! I am about to buy a different stand I have had more problems with this thing, and it takes time away from making the music when u have to sit down and play with it. If you are in a professional studio or bedroom with multiple people recording and having to change the height of the mic stand BUY A Different STAND...

Not Great for professionals

By Sweetwater Customer

Wouldn't recommend these for a professional studio. If you're actively using these in a studio every week; they do not hold up and break every 6-8 months. I've had 3 for several years and I have had to get the main boom joint repaired on each one 3-4 times.

Poor Design, Bad Product

By Devon D. from Boston

I rarely write reviews (good or bad), but after going through two of these stands with typical studio use, I wanted to warn other folks from purchasing these. The stand is heavy and the casters are nice, however, the boom gears and extender are cheap plastic that break pretty easily.

After getting two initially, one's arm broke almost immediately and Sweetwater was great about getting a replacement arm only. I figured it was a fluke. Alas, the other broke recently in the same way.

So now I'm in the market for two more heavy duty mic stands once again after spending ~$+ on these. Bummer.

Seriously Ultimate Support?

By James
Music Background: Engineer/Producer

Literally this thing is a joke, literally. I dont know how its possible for this thing to get good reviews. Maybe quality control on certain pieces are all over the place? I have a buddy who replaced his 4 times in one year literally. I went to his studio to see this thing because I was going to buy one, and nope theres no way. Plus I dont know if they used to be cheaper but now for what they are asking, you could save a couple hundred more and literally get a Latch Lake or Atlas, and its gunna hopefully last many many years, if not a life time if you treat it right. Ultimate Support needs to listen to the reviewers and revise or re design something that actually lasts more than a few months, and doesnt have other issues like the boom arm literally bending when extended and the boom literally falling down even after its tightened. This thing is literally a scam in some ways for the money. Its trying to be a pro stand thats supposed to go high and extend far with weight, but they are cheaping out on the strength of the poles and the quality of the tightening points.

Great if you never move it... very poor boom hub

By Mitchel
Music Background: Audio Engineer

I love the low profile on the base, and it worked great for a short amount of time. I disagree with their description of "most reliable" and "Super long lifespan". The boom hub strips very easily. I really liked the product to begin with, but tightening any point of the stand so your mic will stay put dramatically drops the lifespan. So buy this if you are keeping it in the same place, otherwise go with a different brand until they upgrade their locking mechanisms.

Perfect stand for overhead mics!

By Tim M.

I recently purchased some rather heavy (and fragile) overhead ribbon mics for drum recording. This mic stand fits the bill perfectly to suspend them over the kit. Very sturdy when locked down, easily movable when not locked down, and extremely adjustable even in tight spaces. Well worth the price, I'm sure it will serve me well for years to come.

A big disappointment

By Tim H. from Norfolk, VA
Music Background: Recording studio owner, engineer

Within one use the plastic clutch split. Sweetwater contacted the manufacturer and we were drop shipped a complete boom. However, right out of the box, the plastic threads the clutch screws onto broke. While there are many things I like about the stand, size and locking wheels, the plastics used do not instill confidence for mounting our expensive mics.

Yes, and Maybe Yes

By Jeffrey R. from Orlando, FL
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, home producer, mixing, mastering

Solid, weighty, adjustable stand. Easy to assemble, chunky counterweight.
If you've got a solid grasp of using a counterweight boom, and you don't believe in torquing the buhjeebus out of the friction clamps - this mic stand will do fine for you.
If you're relying on the friction clamps by torquing the mess out of them, this stand won't hold up to constant adjustments and abuse.
Balance with the counterweight , then use two fingers to tighten the arms - and this will last you years.

Move on to Atlas stands if you are going to spend this much money.

By Robert W. from GA
Music Background: Played for over 30 years, recorded for over 20.

I purchased this stand two years ago for use on drum overheads. The issues with this stand are as follows;
* The twisting plastic clutch on the boom wore out after 2 months, it just spins to win now.
* Every time you wheel it around on its' roller blade wheels the shaft come unscrewed from the base, tried everything but locktight on it.
* the clutch on the upright portion is not the best in the world (plastic) but at least that still works so far and has not dropped an overhead mic on my head while playing.

Its just not that good and you end up spending more time fooling with this stand as opposed to finding the right placement because you are afraid to move it thinking a clutch is going to slip!

Try something else for heavens sake!

August 16, 2021

Bought 2 of these. Both failed

By Anonymous K. from Nashville
Music Background: Studio Owner

I always adjust the mic stands for singers in studio.
I do this to avoid people adjusting the boom without loosening the mechanism first and causing unnecessary wear and tear.
While tightening the mechanism, it literally fell apart in my hand, with an expensive microphone on the end of the boom.
I was glad I had stuck with my regiment because both times when this happened, I was able to save my mic from hitting the floor.
While I got at least a year out of both stands, my efforts of trying to take care of equipment still failed me.
I have since went with a better brand.

I hate to be a Karen and whine about a product but when it comes to trusting a product with more valuable items like microphones, you can't go cheap.

A great solid stand

By RJ H. from Flint, MI
Music Background: Guitarist - Creating sonic ecstasy since 1978

This is a great solidly built stand and although I don't have much experience with studio stands of this magnitude, I was quite impressed with it. To be fair, I didn't buy this stand to hold a microphone, but rather to elevate a video camera for a small church where we wanted a camera up high, but really didn't have much budget to work with where we could afford ceiling mounted cameras. Previously, we were using tripods set on tables, which was pretty awkward to say the least. This stand is absolutely perfect for what we are using for and really doesn't cost that much more than a really good tripod. I highly recommend this stand - at least for video work. ;-)

April 25, 2021

HEAVY!!

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a heavy stand. The weight of the base is up off the ground pretty well with the large casters, which will make it really nice for hardwood or tile floors. If on the other hand do you have carpet as I do, this does not work well for carpet. It's very tippy and hard to control on a soft floor.

March 7, 2021

It's fine. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

By Nathanael from Utah
Music Background: Recording/mix engineer, musician

Don't be dissuaded from buying this if you are considering it because of a few bad reviews. The build quality is great for the price you pay. It's very solid once everything is put together properly. I had no problem getting the boom arm securely onto the main pole - three turns - make sure you keep turning it if it gives you resistance (there's a plastic shim that goes around the base of the threads on the main pole that stabilizes the boom pole, and it will give you some resistance, as it should.) Just give it some elbow grease when putting it together and it will be rock solid.

It stands to reason that if you put undue strain on any metal part, it will eventually fatigue and break. Any studio stand that handles significant weight takes some effort to balance the boom on either side of the fulcrum. There's a reason the counterweight on the short side of the boom is movable - to facilitate this very thing. You should plan to keep this in balance whenever possible. Adjust height with the main pole once you have everything in place. This is assistant engineering 101.

If you keep your stand balanced and everything tight, there's no reason why this shouldn't last a long time (outside of manufacturing defects, which should be very obvious from the outset when being assembled).

The rollerblade-style wheels are great. It makes moving it around on a rug a little easier. Assembly was easy and didn't require a glance at the manual, though I did double check it afterwards to make sure everything was done as recommended by the OEM (which I didn't).

Ultimate Support MC-125

By Stephen B. from Gig Harbor, WA

Very --very impressed with the quality and how easy it is to assemble, excellent product!

February 8, 2021

Almost great

By Sweetwater Customer

Not bad, but I'm a little concerned about the threading that connects the boom arm to the stand. Threads are too wide and the boom arm only turned once, if that, onto the stand. I could see it coming off the stand if the boom is swiveled too far. The hand hand grip on the boom extension also could be better didn't want to tighten completely. Almost wish I would have gone with the Atlas but hard to justify the money. Need to steam a lot of tunes to pay for that one. If they could improve these things they'd have a great stand.

By Darron T. from Greensboro NC

I needed a new studio boom mic stand. A few weeks ago I got new speaker stands from Ultimate Support and was impressed with its build quality. So when the adjustable nut on my old stand got stripped again. I said ok it's time. So I saw the Ultimate Support MC-125. It arrived super fast and set up was extremely easy. Can I say it's also a very nice looking stand as well. I'm extremely happy with this purchase and it has already proven its worth.

Classic Studio Asset – Best Value

By Tim K. from Sanford FL
Music Background: 50 years of studio recording

We've added our third major studio stand. Over years and years of recording studio work, they all still look and function beautifully. I believe that today they cost less than a comparable model purchased three decades ago – and ship for free!! How do they do that?. So nice to use, we prefer to leave our most used mics up and ready. Very trusted for the support of our most expensive microphones.

September 13, 2020

My only complaint...

By Sweetwater Customer from Wisconsin

I bought 2 of these. They are great with one exception. The connector that attaches the boom to the stand is supposed to twist onto the threaded connector on the stand. And it does, but only barely. It only seems to go down about one revolution. One thread is not enough. It should go down at least three threads.

By Steven J. from New York
Music Background: Engineer/Artist/Producer

I really don't understand why people bash this product? I mean yes i'll agree it is rather difficult positioning your mic smoothly and quickly exactly the way you intend to and takes a while to get use too that's for sure lol but other than that it does what you'd expect a heavy duty mic stand to do and more! Overall and more importantly it will protect your mics for sure.

Just what I needed

By SOUNDGUY937 from Hillsboro, OH
Music Background: PRO LIVE SOUND/RECORDING

After getting it all together and tightened up it has been a great stand. Those big heavy mics look and feel 100% more secure than my smaller boom stands. The wheels are great. the remind me of roller skate wheels, which in my opinion they roll more smoothly over uneven surfaces. If your tired of worrying about heavy mics tipping on your average boom stand, or really want to get a microphone up high, this is the stand for you.

Bought 4 over the years, they've ALL failed

By Vishal from Brooklyn, NY
Music Background: Engineer

I foolishly bought multiple units over the years, and all of them have failed. It seemed the ones I bought most recently (mid 2018) seemed a little better made, but sure enough, they're still using cheap plastic components that strip over time. I'm certain this isn't because of misuse because we do not have the same issues with the dozens of other mic stands we have from other manufacturers. This is incredibly frustrating. They're just expensive enough that I feel kind of ripped off. I also own a Latch Lake MicKing 2200 and while it is twice the price, I have the reassurance my precious Vintage RCA 44 and U67 won't ever fall or droop in the middle of a take, which by the way, has happened multiple times with my MC-125's. These stands are trash! And they're now selling replacements for the parts that failed on my units on their website which just goes to show that they're aware of the issue and expect customers to buy replacements instead of offering free warranty replacements.
I honestly think this product should be discontinued.

Boom Tightening Mechanism Broke and Cost Me Money

By Phil W. from Corning, NY
Music Background: Musician/ Audio Engineer

Beware of this stand. I purchased an MC-125 boom stand due to the good reviews. It has remained indoors in a home studio drum room and started off fine though not great. While having a tracking session, this product failed and the heavy boom arm detached. The mechanism that holds it came apart (while tightened) which dented up a drummers drumset causing me to have to pay $200 out of pocket and also my $1500 Geffell UMT70S microphone went down with it is now dented and having issues. Luckily the performer wasn't seated at the drums at the time of failure. This was simply unacceptable for a company called Ultimate Support. I wouldn't recommend this if you want to protect your investments. Stick with Atlas or better.

Great Stand for the price. I use it for my Sphere L22 mic. Very safe and steady.

It is also my main mic stand for portable recordings as it can go pretty high for most applications.
The only down side is that it is heavy and you have to unscrew the base when traveling in and out from the studio. Other than that it is a very good investment.

Love this mic stand

By yarrow from Lawrence, KS
Music Background: self-taught hack

I own 2 of these now. It's a great stand - extremely sturdy, doesn't take up a large footprint which is good in my small-ish room. I use them all the time. it does great with heavy microphones - it stays right where you put it and doesn't sag throughout the session. I wish all of my mic stands were this reliable.

I like it!

By Captain M. from Illinois
Music Background: Song Writer / Guitarist / Home Studio Operator

I operate a home studio where I record my own music.
My preference is to have all my gear set up and ready to go so, when a creative urge strikes, I'm ready to go.......no digging out gear, finding cables, plugging in and arranging mics and stands.
To accomplish that, I use a variety of mic stands that just always seam to get in the way.
This one may seam a little large and overkill for a small room but, the long boom and wheels allow me to keep the stand out of the way while positioning a mic wherever I need it.
I've had it in my studio for a couple weeks and I'm very happy with the quality and the way it functions.

Ultimate support MC – 125 fails to support

By Doug from Columbus oh
Music Background: Varied

Bought this to use in my personal studio with a U87. Regardless of how tight I turned to hold the microphone in place the tubes slipped. I took it apart and discovered the inner bushings are cheap plastic. In the middle of the session I actually had to use duct tape and later Construction cement on one of the joints ( so much for the warranty I suppose, but I was stuck ) and now I am looking at bolting The main joint in a fixed position. So much for adjustments. If you"re using this stand with an SM 81, it"ll probably suffice. That"s a joke. So is this stand as far as being a versatile studio stand. Yes, I should"ve spent twice as much and got a better boom, but you"d think that 200 bucks would get you something that would suffice for a home studio.

Solid Microphone Stand

By Andy E. from Suwanee, GA
Music Background: Music Techonology Instructor

I really like this piece of equipment for my Music Technology Teaching Lab. It will hold up to the weight of just about any microphone and is amazingly adjustable. With the ability to swing and place two different arms it provides great positionability and the ability to slide the counterweight helps hold everything in place with out over tightening everything. The base is a very solid weight and the wheels roll nicely to move it around the room. We have bought multiples of these because we liked the first one so much!

Dropped my mic

By Jim A. from OH
Music Background: 30 years expierience

...It worked well with my heavy mic for a couple years. Today the boom just fell off. I caught the mic before it hit the floor but it was shaken up pretty bad. I'm very dissatisfied with this stand. They use weak metal. The metal is cracked on both tabs that secure the boom. That is why my boom fell off tonight. Poor quality in this stand.

Awesome Stand-Poor Boom Hubs

By Sweetwater Customer

Large boom hubs fail out of the box.

Had the boom hubs replaced under warranty and the replacement hubs were no better than the original hubs.

This boom stand "as is" cannot support a large condenser mic without slipping/turning etc. very dangerous.

This has been going on since 2015.

Best Mic Stand I've Ever Owned

Short Lifespan/Cheap Parts

By Luke D. from Seattle, WA
Music Background: Audio Engineer

This mic stand treated me decently well for a few months, but then the boom hub (the part that holds the arm tight) would no longer tighten enough to keep the arm from slipping. This has rendered it completely useless. I expected a much monger life span. I have cheap-o, low end mic stands that have outlasted this one by years!

Awesome stand...

By Dana P. from Post Falls, Idaho
Music Background: Singer/songwriter, home studio, DAW/VST/sample library fanatic

I bought this and love it! Then decided to add a Rode K2 mic to go along with my CAD E100S (both friggin AWESOME) and foolishly decided to try something differentr...in two words? BIG MISTAKE!

The Ultimate Support stand blows it away... smoother, better rollers, better knobs, better cable fasteners, and WAY better boom... there is just NO comparison...its like on stand is from the 60s and the other is modern engineering, in a good quality sense...

I will be ordering another MC125 and relegate this to some far off video work."

Bottom line, folks... this Ultimate Support stand is amazing and blows the competition away!

Beat the buck?

By Daniel T. from Grand Rapids, MI
Music Background: Experienced but a well-endowed hobbiest.

Hard to beat the buck on this one. Overall pretty well built and balanced. Some features that seem like they're going for ingenuity are shaky. The one knob for both tilt and adjusting the boom is handy in some ways but with a heavy mic having the old fashioned two knobs could be more helpful to wrestle. Similarly, the knobs are all large and easy to grab but if you had a sore hand you might not get it as tight with the twist as you would with a knob.

Overall, this is an amazing value and works beautifully however a few features of the old Atlas were sort of missed.

Best stand ever for almost any purpose

By scubaix from Cambridge MA
Music Background: Engineer/Producer

We now have 4 of these in our studio because they are so versatile. Don't let their massiveness fool you because of the brilliant extensions you can get a mic into nearly any tight space at any angle. Everything including the wheels are engineered to the millimeter and super smooth so you can make miniscule placement adjustments with ease. They assemble in like 2 minutes with the wrench included and are rock solid. Truly awesome gear for efficient workflow.

Don't fall for it!

By Nick from South Carolina

I purchased one of these mic stands about a year and a half ago and it has NOT held up at all! I treated it with care and love and it just keeps letting me down. Also the "warranty" is absolute rubbish, I had to pay for all the replacement parts because of such poor construction. DO NOT buy this product!

Very Good

By Chuck from Georgia

Very impressed after assembling it. This stand seems to be designed for the project / budget studios, and it is designed well. I don't have a daily-use studio, but I do like gear that is sturdy, solid & dependable. I feel like I will get much use out of this stand over the years, especially when compared to other stands I have.

June 20, 2017

Very Good, but not Perfect

By Paul

This boom mike stand is the heaviest and most stable mic stand I own, and I have three of them for that reason. However, the adjustments are sticky and for its weight, this seems odd. All three of mine stick when I loosen the major clamps to extend, tilt, or rotate the boom. I guess this flaw is not a deal-breaker for me given how hardy this stand is. Overall, I would recommend it, just don't expect pristine operation (again, I bought three of these new).

Very Sturdy. Time will Tell on Durbility.

By Sean W.

I've only had this stand for a week. It is a beast. More than capable of holding heavy drum overhead mics in place. I've learned that the weak parts of any mic stand are the threading and clamping systems. It takes a while to see how a stand will hold up to being adjusted and readjusted on a regular basis. This one looks well-built and should give years of good service.

Does the Job

By Eric from North Carolina
Music Background: Guitarist 30+ ys. Bassist 3yr, drummer for 2

This stand is heavy which is great. I have it extended over my drum set and have no fear of it tipping over. It can be difficult to move around on deep carpet. All of the hardware is metal including the twist locks. Very sturdy and have not noticed any sag or movement on the boom since I set it up with the mics in place. I am very pleased with this mic stand. Probably the best stand I ever bought to date.

Must have for the studio

By Thomas D. from Seattle area

You've got an LDC mic or two? LDC tube mics; right? They're heavy; right? Maybe you have an almost priceless vintage Neumann, RCA. Some AEA, Royer ribbons in the locker? This is the stand you need. Its built like a tank. You can hang anything on it with complete confidence that your favorite mic will not end up on the studio floor. Just buy it! You can thank me later.

Great Boom

By Jack P. from Peotone,IL
Music Background: Home studio, drummer musician

Outstanding boom. Very heavy and great for larger studio's. Be careful not to walk into that weight since that boom goes pretty tall. I put something on the end to caution anyone walking by. (when looking down to not trip over chords). Well worth the price.

Solid as a Rock

By Warren H.
Music Background: Professional Musician, Drummer and Producer

My old Atlas studio mic stand was lost in a move so I needed a solid stand for my larger body Condensers. Primarily I use this for my vintage AKG Solidtube Mic. I can now rest easy since there is enough weight on the back end. I love the skateboard like casters for easy maneuvering and the wheel locks are great. Your expensive Condenser is an investment. Protect it with the right mic stand... This ONE!

Great when working. Not great otherwise.

By Sweetwater Customer

These stands are really sturdy and great when functional—no problems there. However, I've had the screw on the boom strip three times on me! (on two different stands) Really nice of them to keep sending me new booms under warranty, but there's got to be a better design. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe my clients are doing something wrong, I have no clue. I know of other studios that have had the same problems in the past.

Great stand! Terrible Packaging!

By Shooshie from Dallas, Texas
Music Background: Pro Musician, engineer, and director.

5 stars for the stand. 0 stars for the packaging = 3.0 stars average.

This is a fantastic stand if you don't mind working around something that is pretty dominating. It's exactly what I was looking for: heavy base (very heavy), counterweighted boom, articulated mic support, super tall, huge range, moves quietly and freely on wheels that lock easily with a single press of the toe, and release by pulling up with same. In a crowded room it might be overwhelming, though its design actually makes it easier to use where there is little room to maneuver, because the counterweighted boom and heavy base enable reaching over a fairly large distance with stability, and the wheeled base is not as spread out as far as most 3-legged stands.

All in all, this is a 5+ star stand. I knocked it down a two stars in my rating because of the packaging. I'm not an activist or anything, but when I get a package with that kind of styrofoam that crumbles into a million little pills, I just don't like it. I spent more time cleaning up the mess it made than I did assembling and learning to use the mic stand. There are STILL bits of styrofoam in that room, in floor cracks, static-clinging to everything imaginable. And I was being CAREFUL not to let it get away from me or make a mess. This is the stuff that fell out of the box, which, once you've removed the huge, sharp, brass staples, really has no substance and can no longer contain that busted-up styrofoam.

By the time it gets to you, it's been in several trains, a ship, maybe some airplanes, and a number of trucks and warehouses, and that styrofoam does not hold up well. The box would be plenty strong if it were redesigned, and they could stuff it with paper, cloth, cotton, or just heavy cardboard strips, and it could all be recycled in some meaningful way, plus it wouldn't leave a mess in your studio. But this thing brings a terrible substance not just into your studio, but into the environment, left to blow in the wind when it finally arrives at the dump.

This is not OK, Sweetwater. I do not like being a part of this chain of environmental damage.

That said, the stand is superb. You can't get a better one anywhere that I know of without moving up to the high-end movie production gear, not appropriate for a sound studio. Just be sure you need something this substantial. It's large and heavy, and merely adjusting the boom can take some strength until you get it balanced. But I would not trade it for anything. VERY HAPPY to have it.

I'll gradually forget about the trauma of the packaging, and I'll just think about what a great stand that is, but next time I buy something — including another of these stands — I'll ask about the packaging. I simply won't do that again, not even for one made of solid gold.

Almost...

By Mark B. from Lehighton, PA
Music Background: Producer/Musician/Programmer

Almost... I really thought it was the perfect mic stand... until.
Plastic components = junk.

For nearly a $200.00 mic stand I was expecting something that would hold my heavy condenser upright. Unfortunately, the PLASTIC clutch slips and the boom is set free causing the heavy condensers to spin around (similar to the bottle rocket and on horse tails on the movie Joe Dirt)... Come on Ultimate Support, literally everything about this mic stand is iron man, except that plastic tightening clutch that holds the boom. Let's take a couple dollar hit next quarter and replace this with an all metal solution for 2015.

i got this stand free with a telefunken mic as a sweetwater special. i was expecting a junky stand because it was free. i was pleasantly surprised - very high quality stand. all the moving parts and adjustments move freely and smoothly and when tightened down - the stand is rock solid even with a heavy tube mic. the counterweight is great and the casters are smooth and also lock. very high quality stand - easy to position and stays where you want it. great value.

This Boom is the Bomb!

By Ric T. from Plant City, FL USA
Music Background: Recording and live performance

This is the real deal. have a Neumann U87 that I did not trust to an ordinary boom stand. I purchased this stand hoping it was sturdy enough for studio work and protect my investment in the mic, and it is! This stand is heavy duty yet easy to move around due to the strong bas and casters. I do not worry at all about my sweet U87 falling over! Highly recommend!

Ultimate Support MC-125

By Jonathan from Frankfort, KY
Music Background: Semi-pro musician, live sound engineer, recording engineer

Excellent boom stand for the studio--solid as a rock! I have an OSS studio boom that lasted about 3 months before everything stripped and became about as useful as a boat anchor in the studio. This Ultimate Support stand blows the other away. About twice the price, but well worth it. I'll be buying a second one very soon.

Great Studio Boom

By Mark K. from Los Angeles California
Music Background: Engineer, Singer, Guitar Player, Drummer, Geek

I just bought a second one of these for our studio, this boom is great for getting a stereo mic out over the drum set. The mic I use over drums most often is a big heavy custom built stereo condenser, I have no fears of it falling with this stand. I like this hardware a lot, the boom is very adjustable, stays where you put it and is easy to move around the studio.

Peace of Mind for My Favorite Mics

By Ron F. from Canton, Ohio
Music Background: Project Recording Studio Engineer, Producer

I've alway had to ask musicians to change how they were seated or move their instrument in ways that didn't always feel comfortable ... That's the beauty of an MC-125 ... they reach over/around about any situation, and they reach to the musician. They stay where you lock them. They don't droop with heavy mics. Really stable too. They look like their wheel base it small compared to how hi/wide they reach but the base is heavy and solid when the casters are locked.

I waited too long to do this ... glad I did.

A great stand. Price drop makes it that much better.

By Travis D. from Waldorf, MD
Music Background: Recording engineer, live sound, pro musician 11+years

This was my first forray into "higher end" mic stands and I have to say I am very impressed with it. The base is very heavy and the locking wheels make it very secure on carpet or hardwood. Everything on the stand is heavy duty and feels built to last. All of the clutches are tight and easy to manipulate, even though they are plastic. The stand is currently holding a Shure SM7B and a very heavy (and poorly designed) off-brand reflexion filter. The counter weight keeps everything in check and I have complete confidence in this stand. Great product at a great price!

Look & Be Professional

By David H. from Oakland, CA
Music Background: Recording Engineer

This is an impressive mic stand. It can do it all. The counter weight is very handy with making sure my Blue & Neumann mics don't get banged around. Besides improving the overall look of my studio, the MC-125 is a workhorse and has been perfect for whatever I need to mic. The locks on the wheels are great for keeping the stand in position and easily move around the studio. I will be investing in more of these stands in the very near future.

Ultimate Stand

By Curt

Great stand - very high quality base with excellent wheels. the boom itslef could be a little longer but that's getting pretty particular. We are using it for a home studio and it maneuvers well from room to room - holds our Mojavi mic just great!

Sturdy, well made.

By Michael M. from United States
Music Background: Composer/Producer/Engineer.

Love this stand, especially the wheels. Just has a nice quality feel.

My one gripe is the boom arm attachment to the pole, controls the extension and rocking (swivel). If you only want to rock the arm up or down, it can also cause the arm to slide in or out. You have to be careful with this because at large angles and the heavy weight, you can wind up with the arm moving. Sometime quite drastically. Something you don't want to do with an expensive microphone attached.

As long as you're aware of this going in, it shouldn't be too much trouble. But Ultimate could look at this area for improvement.

BEST STAND EVER!

High Quality and Reasonable Pricing

By Hendrik D. from Boston, MA
Music Background: Producer/Engineer/Educator

I have several heavier weight studio boom stands and the Ultimate Support MC-125 is the best balance of price and features. The wheels roll very smoothly and they are big enough to get over bumps pretty easily. They also have a wheel lock feature so the base of the stand doesn't roll away while you are positioning the mic. One feature that I like a lot is the mini-boom at the end of the boom arm. It can be spun without loosening the boom arm which makes it MUCH easier to thread into mic clips, which means less wear and tear on your fingers and the threads. The handles on the screws are really heavy duty and are big enough so you don't hurt your hands trying to loosen them. I use the stand to hold a pair of Earthworks omnis and a Jecklin Disk way over the top of drums or pianos and the stand feels very solid.
