First step up from beginner

By C.E. M. from MS
Music Background: Beginning Bass

When I really began to improve my skills and decided I wanted to take the leap from beginning bass / amplifier combo
This amplifier was a smart choice. Definitely worth the upgrade
Sweetwater also found me a Yamaha BB434 to complete the package.

Great sound and volume for a little amp

By Christopher D. from SIERRA VISTA, AZ

For a smaller amp with a competitive price point you get great sound and it is certainly enough amp for my house.

Peavey MAX 100 Amp review

By Sweetwater Customer

I want to give this amp a very high rating. However, I think I've already blown the speaker on it even though I've only had the volume and everything turned up to half the available volume. If that is not the case, I give the amp 5 stars, but if the speaker is blown I'll have to give it a measly 2 stars.

Good, solid amp

By Andre M. from Boise, ID
Music Background: Bassist, Guitarist

I bought this amp to play in a punk rock band. I love the preamp tones and the tonal variety this amp gets. However, due to it's size it really cannot compete with a tube amp volume-wise, so using DI is must for any live gig. I have also started getting a really noticeable grill rattle and I cannot find the origin. I would recommend this if you need a practice/ recording amp, or something for non- rock music.

Great Practice/Stage Monitor Amp

By Kerry P. from Wichita, KS
Music Background: 40+ years bass experience

I bought my Peavey MAX100 to use as a stage monitor/DI with my church orchestra. In that role the unit works very well - the DI is super quiet and it puts out enough sound through the ten inch speaker to re-enforce my (in ears) main monitor mix. It has a very good weight to power ratio and could easily handle most small to moderate gigs on its own. Tilting the speaker (instead of the amp) is a great idea and it really does preserve the bass while putting the sound where you need it. I also like the over all look and design of the amp with the main controls on the amp being very straight-forward and easy to use. The curved grill and the grey and black color scheme also look sharp and professional on stage.

I find that most of the preset buttons are nice to have but I seldom if ever use them, with of course the exception of the mute/tuner function. I also wish that Peavey would have given users the option of a pre/post DI switch with a separate volume knob instead of just a pre-amp out. Having an amp cover would have also been nice, but all of these things are only worth one star in my review.

So if you are considering purchasing a small practice/monitor/performance bass amp with a great weight to power curve, a dead quiet DI and don't want to break your bank account to buy it - this might just be an amp for you.
