Mojave Audio MA-D Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
Mojave Audio MA-D Cardioid Dynamic Microphone Reviews
From the mind of Technical Grammy Award winner David Royer comes the first dynamic microphone worthy of the Mojave name: the Mojave Audio MA-D. This uniform cardioid mic eschews the presence peak inherent in most handheld vocal dynamics, instead yielding you a super-smooth frequency response and a rich musicality that's almost otherworldly. You'll find that the MA-D offers excellent off-axis rejection — even in noisy environments. What's more, its integrated pneumatic shockmount and built-in internal windscreen ensure quiet, plosive-free operation. Don't mistake the MA-D for a mere vocal mic, however. This versatile workhorse also performs admirably on instruments, both onstage and in the studio. The Mojave MA-D comes with a flexible mic clip and a rugged zippered bag.
Mojave Audio MA-D microphone
performs for me just as I had hoped. Excellent choice, would absolutely purchase again if needed.
Wow!
I can't tell you anything technical here, just that I was blown away by this mic. I've used the "industry standard" SM58 for over 30 years. This mic made me feel like I was singing 30 years younger. A great feeling for a 68 year old artist. Definitely worth the money.
Mojave MA-D microphone
What a terrific microphone, I've been using shure 58s for years and was looking for something with a bit of a different voicing, and this microphone done just that. The lows and mids really come to life with the Mojave MA-D,and the highs were crystal clear and bright. This microphone was also notably louder all the while keeping great clarity. This Mic is a must have for your microphone arsenal.
Great Mic
I know describing tone is so subjective its tough to sign off on someone elses opinion. Having said that:) I will say, for me, this mic has a smooth clear response without being harsh/piercing on the high end or boomy/muddy on the low end. It is bright. My previous go to was a Sennheiser e935. Still love that mic but this one has edged it out. My voice is baritone for reference
Great Smooth Sound, But...
This microphone has a very smooth and balanced sound. The build quality is decent, which is acceptable given the price. Personally, I prioritize performance over aesthetics when it comes to audio equipment. However, I am giving it four stars because the handling noise is quite problematic, especially for live spoken word contexts. I find it particularly challenging when it's handheld and it's being recorded, and I've had to use makeshift grip tape to address the issue.
Just Fantastic!
Needed a smoother mic than a 58 for quick vocal recordings. This one is fantastic!
Exact Fit for My Application
Best mic for my voice
I bought this based on reviews and to compare to my existing live vocal mics (Blue Encore series, all three types and Sennheiser e935).
This is by far the best sounding mic for my voice. I'm not an audio tech geek, but can describe how well it does this way:
My voice sounds fuller, richer, warmer and more balanced overall in the mix. It does a marvelous job throughout my range: D3 to A5.
In a cramped rehearsal space with a full 20-piece band, no feedback issues! Outdoors at live gigs, no wind noise…. Really a wonderful overall mic. Can't recommend enough.
I love this mic.
I have owned this mic for over a year now. I love its sound and quality. As advertised, it is very smooth sounding. I am pleased with its aesthetic as well.
Its only con in my experience is the durability of the grill. The moisture from my mouth has begun to remove the black paint. Its grill is also soft and pliable unlike the Shure microphones (SM 58, Beta 57A are two that I own).
Kudos to David Royer
This is a refreshing take on a dynamic. It's not SM58 clone #4872. It's not a typical "contemporary" sound with a tilt EQ to put you in a frying pan with no butter on the bottom. It has a reasonable 10K smooth brightness and a more or less flat low-end. The brightness isn't overdone and the flat low-end allows you to do exactly what you want to do with it. Its sound is clear with no hype. A touch of EQ to taste and you should be ready to roll.
Mojave MA-d
I purchased 3 of these mics. They're great at FOH. The real sale was their clarity in the IEM system. My artist's need a very clear and detailed representation in their ears. This mic does it. I've tested a number of mics. The Mojave won. So far they've holding up well on tour.
Simply Amazing
Amazing sounding mic, has a condenser like quality and works very well in a live setting. Very happy with it. Haven't tried it on anything else other than vocals. Eventually will give it a whirl on a guitar amp and snare drum, which I'm sure will do equally as well too
The MA-D is a game changer
I received my MA-D, unpacked it and went straight to a gig.
It sounds fantastic. The smoothness and clarity are outstanding.
I have used a number of good dynamic mics over the years. The MA-D is my new favorite live local mic.
An actual fully noticeable improvement over the usual.
Royer Worthy
David… you continue producing top notch work. This is an extremely fine microphone. Your innovative wiring technique on this one with the high ohm gives this mic clarity and true reproduction quality. I've A/B'd it with my Shure SM58, Beta 87a, and Sennheiser e935 and for my needs it beats them hands down. It's goin on stage with me. Thank you again for your caring and quality.
Pleasantly surprised!
Great tone and off axis rejection. Tested and compared in studio and live.
Good Sounding Mic
Mic is made in China. I bought two, and returned one since the capsule was slightly tilted. The grill threads are not the fine kind. As soon as you loosen the grill, it starts to rock leaving me wishing for more. The Mojave name tag appears to be glued onto the surface of the microphone body and not recessed into the metal. You can call me picky! The tone is smooth and balanced. Excellent plosives rejection and good handling noise. Kept the one with the straight capsule inside for its tone and that it's one of the first 250 MA-D made. 4 stars for the picky issues mentioned above and for it a made in China.
Mojave MA-D
Very good mic, really smooth, I have tried it on snare, vocals, guitar cab. Really smooths out the upper mid peak and adds a sparkle to the top end of the sound. Not harsh at all. I am really impressed. Great alternative to the 57. Thanks Geoff!
There is a new kid on the block!
I purchased this awesome mic a month ago and I'm very happy with the sound. The mid range is very clear as well the low end. It has some sparkle as well on the high mid range. I tested this with the Shure SM 58. I recorded my voice with both mics and saw in the eq frequency spectrum some different waves. The Mojave MA-D's boosted range I more on the mid frequencies and is very different from Shure SM58. The sound is more clearer when compared to SM58 sounds muffled. For me this is an awesome mic to have. I'm now using it for my university zoom online lessons. So, step aside Shure SM58! There is a new kid on the block!!
