MONO Vertigo Electric Hybrid Gig Bag - Steel Gray Reviews

Top-loading Case for Solidbody Electric Guitar with Headlock Neck-suspension System, Molded-rubber Outsole, EVA Insole, Storage Compartments, and Carry Straps - Steel Gray

The MONO Vertigo guitar case is designed to accommodate the way we often reach for our guitars: out of the side of a partially unzipped case while standing up. Guilty as charged! We've all done it, but now MONO has done something to address this haphazard (and potentially hazardous-to-your-axe) operation - the Vertigo loads from the top. It gives your guitar maximum protection too. On the bottom, there's an EVA insole and a molded-rubber outsole (The Boot). It also features MONO's Headlock neck-suspension system. Check out the evolution of the guitar case: the MONO Vertigo.

The coveted king of Gig bags

By Eric O. from USA
Music Background: Dinosaur, no joke, seriously

This is my second Vertigo. My original from over ten years ago is still going strong. I passed it down to my daughter. It is in excellent condition. Nobody makes a better bag, nobody. You could throw this thing off a roof of a house and your guitar would be fine. The extra Tick bag is a must however even though the zippered pocket is large, it does not expand well. I hold so much stuff in the Tick bag. Expensive? Yes, but worth every penny.

very unique bag

By David L. from North York, ON
Music Background: I play bass and guitar

Very well made. I like this bag a lot. The only improvement I would suggest is pockets on the inside to hold some humidifier packs.

This bag is a beast

By Kris from PA
Music Background: worship leader

If you're looking for protection for your prized guitar, then this is it. Over the years I've collected some expensive instruments, and the trade off was either...

1) More protection with a hard case - which never really fit well in the back of my car, and basically meant one less hand free to carry my rig and everything else, or

2) A gig bag, for which had all the convenience of a "hands free" travel experience, but left me in constant fear what was happening to my axe in the back of the car.

Enter the Mono Vertigo.

First I will say it is much bigger (longer, wider and thicker) than your average gig back. So as far as fitting into my car better, not so much, but it does leave me with an extra hand, which means I can usually transport my rig in one trip instead of two. But the best feature is that it's top loading. Seriously, think about the hassle of setting your case or gig bag on the ground and opening it up. It doesn't seem like a big deal - but floors are dirty, people are all around you with their potentially trampling feet.

The other thing I love is the clamshell neck protector. why hasn't anyone else thought of this? Total peace of mind if this thing gets jostled, dropped, what ever. That plus the bottom "boot" protecting it from impact, this thing could survive any typical drop. I've even seen demos where Vertigo enclosed guitar has survived being dropped out a 2nd story window (not that I would recommend trying that).

My one wish is that the pocket was deeper. I cannot comfortably fit everything I need (iPad, cords and strap). I suppose I could leave the strap on the guitar when I store it, but I don't want anything interfering with the integrity of the foam / padding. If anything should be snug, it should be the wrap around my guitar. And a smaller pocket up at the headstock would be great for items like capo, picks, etc.

Great case

By Sweetwater Customer

I usually shy away from gig bags. Always prefer hard shell, but this case has changed that. I feel confident with my instrument within it. Using it for a Danelectro longhorn bass. Fits perfectly.

Mono Vertigo Gig Bag

By Jim M. from Middletown IN
Music Background: Professional Guitarist and Teacher

I like the bag. I really like being able to get my guitar in and out without having to lay the bag down somewhere. I think this is much safer. With the old bag I had to find a flat place to lay the bag down then unzip and open it up. With this bag it's way easier and faster plus I can do it anywhere without having to watch out for people stepping on us. I do like the new neck support system too. It seems to be very stable and protective. I do, however, wish the bag had more storage and that the back pack straps could come off or be put into a storage area. It's always a compromise but, for safety and ease of use, this bag has it all over every other bag I've looked at.

Fly Gig Worthy

By John from Santa Barbara, CA
Music Background: Worship Leader; 30+ years in bands of all styles

First off, Sweetwater was incredible in getting me the Vertigo on a super short turnaround time, as I had a last minute fly gig. The bag is everything I needed, and what I expected it to be. Its native voyage was from California, to Denver, to Chicago, then to South Bend Indiana.... then back again! Luckily I was able to take it on most of the flights (the Vertigo fits in most overhead compartments I discovered!), but there was one on a little puddle jumper where they had to store it under the plane.... eeeek. Well, my guitar was in perfect shape through all the madness (running through Chicago Airport, etc.). I love how this bag functions, with being able to pull the guitar out from the top; this is great! No bending or kneeling down on potential dirty stages. The front pocket is perfect for an iPad, strap and other accessories as well. Another brilliant feature is being able to attache the Tic Bag (also a Mono product). This along with a backpack and I was set for the quick three day trip. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bag. Thanks to everyone at Sweetwater who helped me out on this!

Another great bag from Mono

By Bob from New York City
Music Background: guitar and vocal

I have owned the mono Dreadnought acoustic guitar bag for many years, which protects my Martin when I travel, but I needed one for my electric guitar. This is definitely my brand of choice. Made well, protects well and just feels good on the back. My only recommendation to Mono would have been to add additional pockets - small and large. I like to have capo, pick and other odds and ends. Also a business card slot for ID.

Rubbery Piping Material Disintegrating after 5 years

By Mark B. from Easton, CT
Music Background: Semi-Pro Player

I own three mono gig bags and a pedal board bag. I have had the bags for five years. Love the design of the top loading bags; hate the fact that on three of the four bags, the piping covering, which was rubbery, is disintegrating, exposing the binding. The rubbery material is dry and cracking and coming off in my car, my studio, and anywhere I travel with the bags.

Exactly what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Hobbyist

In quarantine I purchased a used custom shop '62 Strat and had been taking it back and forth from jams and lessons in its original case (much to my arm and shoulder's chagrin). This gig bag gives me the peace of mind that a guitar I'd rather never pay to replace is safe on my back when I'm walking around with it. The top-loading design makes the bag MUCH easier to work with than the cheap bags that come with guitars (my SG's for instance) and I love the way the neck/headstock is secured. There is also space at the bottom for your guitar's strap button to sit in without damage. I would feel comfortable carrying my Gibsons in it too, regardless of headstock break angle. Once I have a need to carry two guitars at once, I'll also secure a MONO bag that can do that.

Only gig bag to own

By Eric K.

First off, thanks Geoff Allen. I am a hard case guy since I live in the SW desert and need to keep things humidified. That said, traveling for a weekend or so is a pain with a case, space wise and weight wise. This bag is the solution. Very good protection and nice materials. It's no case but dang near. Well made and fits solid bodied fenders great. I will use this until it literally falls apart and I got $50 saying my guitars will be protected even if the bag looks like its been ravaged by hyenas.

THE BEST GIG BAG

Incredible. Best gig bag EVER

By Jason W. from West Palm Beach, FL

Let me tell you I have never been a fan of gig bags. I have always been a hard shell case guy. And I would NEVER have even thought about putting a Les Paul in anything but a hard shell case. I had heard a lot about these bags but never actually had the chance to see one in person. I watched many reviews and videos. But until you actually hold one of these and put your guitar in it, you can't really appreciate how good they really are. I am one hundred percent sold on these. I think it's almost an insult to call them a gig bag.

I have a custom shop Les Paul. It came with a hard shell lifton case. And while aesthetically, that's a pretty nice case, this mono bag is actually better for protecting the guitar. Honestly. I would feel much more comfortable if my guitar was to be stood up on end and fall over on to the floor in the mono case as opposed to the hard shell. There is much more padding in the mono case and the head stock is securely suspended. There is no question in my mind that the impact to the guitar would be greater in its hard shell case than in this mono bag.

I am beyond impressed and the original hard shell case is going in the closet to never be used again.

If you really care about protecting your guitar, you need to get one of these.

I actually take this with me on my motorcycle to band practice! No worries!

The perfect case

By Sweetwater Customer

This is my third Mono Vertigo bag. I also have an archtop and dreadnought version. Simply the best gig bags I've ever owned. The electric hybrid case fit my Fender FMT HH tele comfortably. The guitar is not sold with a case, and I didn't need to think twice before choosing Mono. Top load system is ingenious. I can recommend these bags without reservation.

Amazing Gig Bag!!!!

By Gennaro E. from NY
Music Background: NY session player

Quality and design is amazin, immediately you can recognise the quality!
Shawn suggested it and he always super helpful, honest and does every time an incredible job...1000 stars for customer service!!!
I'm not giving 5 stars to the product because the front pocket is not enough and you end spending more money for the tick: the external "pocket" that attaches to the gig bag

Jazzmaster Compatible!

By Jon W. from Albany, GA
Music Background: I play at the house.

The Mono Vertigo fits my Jazzmaster perfectly without having to remove the strap. The zippers on this are extremely high quality and very quiet. The front pocket is deep but not very thick. The bag as a whole is very lightweight but feels extremely sturdy. This is a great alternative to a hardshell case. There are a lot of "forum freakout" threads about whether or not the Mono Vertigo fits Jazzmaster style guitars. It does. I've got a Nash JM63 and 2 homemade Warmoth offsets and all 3 fit perfectly. This is a lot easier to carry around than a heavy hardshell case like the SKB Offset model, but I wouldn't encourage stacking things on top of it or tossing it.

Finally, a case that’s sturdy and light!

By Adam I. from Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Music Background: Worship Guitarist, B.A. in Music Industry Studies

I"ve only had this case for about a week but I"m already in love with it! I"ve used it for my Gibson Les Paul and no problem trusting that it"s secure and protected when inside the case. The top-loading system of putting the guitar in the case is great because you don"t have to bend over anymore to take the guitar out. The vertigo shoe boot thing at the bottom works great (I tested bouncing it around with my guitar in the case and nothing happened) too and looks cool in my opinion! I highly recommend this case especially if you fit a lot but want a lighter case that can also free up your hands with the backpack straps and hold your guitar cables, picks, in-ear monitors, etc. in the front bag.
P.S. the steel gray color looks more on the darker-ish, blue-side, but it still looks great!

Vertigo Bass Case Steel Grey

By Gregory R. from CA
Music Background: Latin Rock, Funk Jazz, weekend gigger

First things first, this is a great gig bag. My BTB846SC fits perfectly, which is to say snug. The protection comes in the form of thickness and bulk. However it is very light and the straps are comfortable. On the down side there is only one pocket albeit a large pocket to store a strap, cable etc. A one inch binder fits with room to spare, the large pocket swallows my clip on tuner. If I had one thing to change it would be to add one small pocket for tools, tuner, strings. Yeah, I know, I know, the Tick. Which brings me to another downside, 250 dollars is a lot for a gig bag, without Sweetwaters fantastic financing offer, I couldn't even consider buying it.
One more thing neither upside or down, I'm not sure what to say about it except the Steel Grey isn't what I visualized. Its more a shiny dark aqua blue, kind of blue-teal. I'm getting used to it.
I'm glad I got it. You'll be glad you got it.

Believe The Hype

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Praise and worship, session, hired hand guitarist/vocalist

Very seldom do I ever write a gear review, but the Mono Vertigo deserves the time it takes to type one out. Let's start with loading your guitar. Why we haven't seen a top loading bag before this is beyond me! My guitar can be loaded and unloaded while standing up, which in itself is worth the price of admission. The entirely of the bag is made to withstand a small nuclear blast. It just feels solid. The Headlock system works just as described. It doesn't appear so in pictures, but my strap, slide, tools, and extra strings all fit into a smaller zipped pocket that is hidden inside the main accessories pocket. This leaves plenty of room inside the main pocket for my Tech21 Fly Rig, cables, and power supplies. The Vertigo reminds me of my beloved Strat which it carries: there is nothing on this bag that doesn't have a purpose, and that contributes to its overall elegance. I now have a grab and go fly rig without worry thanks to Mono, and thanks to Sweetwater for taking the time to understand musicians of all disciplines.

Worth it!!

By Chris B. from Phoenix

I have only had it a few days, used it twice but super happy with it. I bought another "high-end" soft case (feel calling it a gig bag isn't doing it justice) from another brand, the other one was cool but my guitars never really fit, I put my Ibanez Sabre in it and no issues, my Les Paul no issues. The bag fits a fuller body guitar better than the Sabre but that is to be expected.

I quit using my other "high-end" soft case because I didn't like the fit and didn't feel comfortable putting my guitars in it. It was a nice case but just didn't fit right. I've been using hard cases since.

I decided to pull the trigger on the Mono and didn't have high expectations because of my previous experience with the other brand. I was wrong.

Love the tread on the bottom. No slipping when you lean it against something.

The handles and backpack straps are solid. The zippers seem solid and strong.

I have no complaints at all.

This is my new bag of choice.

Good Enough For A Gibson

By Brian V. from Burlington
Music Background: Professional

overall quality is outstanding. best soft case out there for a Gibson guitar. There's enough protection around the headstock along with the neck support that I'm not worried about a broken headstock. just wish the front pocket were designed better as I can't fit my Moody guitar strap in the pocket. ipad, strings, slide etc is about it.

Music Background: Hawaiian, Polynesian, jazz...some lights and sound.

Good gig bag..light, comfortable. Made well..have yet to get hit w/rain... (I do lu'au shows a few times a wk.mostly outdoors) wish the strap adjustment sliders would hold as they always slip and causes bag to sag... no mention about the zippers repelling water...so I sprayed water proofing before I'd run into leaks...and be sorry... so far so goood!!!

I Got Hit By A Car With This Case On My Back

By Ricky D. from Brooklyn, NY
Music Background: Musician

It was a rainy, sleety, dark December night. I was on my way to play an Open Mic with my guitar on my back, in its Mono case. I was crossing the street (with the right of way, mind you) when I saw--out of the corner of my eye--a white Nissan Maxima turning pretty fast right into my walking path.

I didn't have time to get out of the way. He hit me, at about 20 mph. My body smacked onto the hood, and I even slid up onto the windshield. When he finally slammed the brakes, I flew off the car and landed right on my back, right on top of my Mono case.

The driver came out of the car, shocked, and starting sobbing. He had no insurance, and he begged me to not call the police. Luckily, I didn't feel injured or dazed, since the Mono case had absorbed much of the blow of the accident. I told him if my guitar was broken, I had to call the police.

I took my guitar out of the case to inspect the damages. Miraculously, it was unharmed. Without a scratch. It had even kept in perfect tune, in spite of the ordeal it had just went through.

In the end, he gave me $100 to cover a possible emergency room visit (which I never went to) and I continue to be grateful for the producers of this fantastic mono case which saved my life, and my guitars life.

Great product!

By Dan O. from Yuma, AZ
Music Background: Home based webcast wannabe

I ordered one of these for my son who's a musician and he's really happy with it. Like his dad, he is very picky and a bona fide quality geek. In fact a likely order a second one for his Christmas gift.

I ordered this thing' based on a recommendation from Sweetwater Sales Engineer 'Ryan Wiltermood' since I really didn't have much knowledge of what bag to get. It's helpful that a lot of the folks at Sweetwater actually have first-hand experience or feedback from satisfied customers. Often times I will ask them of what X-Y-Z product; which one has the least amount of returns' due to issues.

Well made and durable

By Corey W.
Music Background: Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist

Most gig bags are crap, especially those that come with your guitar. The material they are made of is very cheap and within a few months it deteriorates.

The Mono gig bag is attractive, well made, sturdy and as strong as a hard case. When transporting it on your back it is very very comfortable and the handle, zips and bottom are well made.

It would not fit a semi-hollow guitar but would comfortably fit a Tele, Strat or Les Paul.

I would recommend this case to anyone who is serious about protecting their equipment.

Must have bag if you're playing out

By Phil from Chicago, IL
Music Background: gigging musician/hobbyist

Excellent gig bag. I have hard cases for all of my guitars, but two of them are very nice and I didn't want them to get scuffed or damage when playing out. But most gig bags offer very little in terms of protection for your guitar. After checking out videos for this gig bag, I was sold. I wouldn't try it, but I am sure I could drop my guitar when carrying it in this bag and have nothing to worry about.

As usual, great service and great price from Sweetwater, and TJ Bechill, my sales engineer.
