Yup, it is just fun to play!
Having been in the market for a decent mandolin for some time, played a few different ones at (limited local) shops...I read the reviews and took a chance on this one. The reviews are right! While not a "top of the line" instrument, it is sure solid, plays very well, terrific tone, meets all my needs for gigging and studio wok, AND it stays in tune!
I think this is an excellent choice for a beginner or a solid player fine mandolin that won't break the bank and should provide years of fun playability!
I'm enjoying this mandolin and I'm pretty dang sure you will too! Cheers!
...and as always you cannot beat the knowledge of your sales engineer and the customer service from Sweetwater! Thanks Brandon!
My first mandolin
Have been listening to mandolin music quite a bit lately and decided I wanted to learn how to play. I am a marginal guitarist. The mandolin arrived perfectly packed and was in tune out of the case. She is very resonant and plays like a dream. Highly recommend this instrument. Sweetwater's customer service is second to none and Jack, my sales engineer, is the best. Enjoying the learning journey so far.
Great value!
As a mandonewbie, I'll admit I'm not experienced with other brands, however, I'm well versed on the different quality levels of guitars and basses, so I can differentiate a dud from a keeper. I didn't want bottom tier junk that I'd regret, nor did I want to spend $ on an entry level US made mandolin, so this seemed to fill that gap nicely.
To me, it seems very well made and after a quick setup, plays nice as well. I honestly believe it's a great value for the money.
Washburn Mandolin purchase
Very impressed with the level of knowledge my sales engineer had of the mandolin. I am very pleased with my purchase and feel that I was directed to the right instrument. As a beginner with limited experience, Noah Berends was able to make recommendations and help me with my purchase. I could not be happier with my new Washburn Mandolin and felt that if I need assistance in the future Noah would be there to help .
Washburn M3SW
I recieved my mandolin about a week ago. Spent 10 minutes making minor adjustments and played a gig that night. Very pleased with the instrument and service!
Wow, big surprise!
I purchased this model and boy was I surprised. This mandolin is awesome. I own 2 other mandolins (not budget models by no means) and this takes first place. I did change the strings to my liking and nothing more. It is truly a beautiful mandolin. The Luther(s) and their skill who put this together did impeccable work. I really mean that. It plays like a dream and the sound is second to none for the price. It is a bit loud, but that's better than it being quiet and muffled. This has such a clear articulate sound. This surprised me. It really is a good buy! I really enjoy this model, big time! I was a little skeptical at first for the price and maker's name, but when it was delivered and I opened up (the box) I was pleasantly surprised. Bottom line, it was a wise purchase and I am grateful that they put the amount of work and oversight to make it what it is today… Awesome mandolin!
Great Mandolin
I recently upgraded to these Washburn Mandolins.
Getting the set-up in addition is a must.
I have both electric and non-eclectic models.
There is a slight weight difference.
This model without electronics sounds a bit warmer.
Both are great instruments and I highly recommend them.
Great instrument for price
Sounds good, plays well
Another great instrument from Washburn
I purchased this mandolin for my wife for Christmas 2016 and we have both been thoroughly impressed with its tone and overall playability ever since. It also is beautifully constructed with premium materials and has a stunning finish. Honestly to buy a made in the U.S. version of this instrument would cost about 8 or 9 times as much. Thanks, Washburn, for putting this type of quality instrument in the hands of average, everyday folks that can't afford to spend a fortune on their musical passions - by doing so, you are creating brand loyalty, something that is well deserved from a long standing musical instrument maker that is one of the oldest and most respected in the country. Thanks again, Washburn, and thanks Sweetwater for carrying their awesome line of products!
This is a keeper!
The fit and finish on this mandolin is excellent and there is certain elegance about it, due to the rich hue of the sunburst finish, which sparkles. It needed a setup when I got it, as the action was much too high. I spent some time adjusting the truss rod, sanding down the bridge to lower the action and using a nail file to lower the nut slots. With a new set of strings, it was ready to go with a beautiful tone. I would prefer a slightly wider neck and the snowflake inlays are an upgrade over the not inlays typically found on the neck of mandolin and guitars. This mandolin is made of solid wood, front, back and sides and will open up over time and sound even better than it does today.
