Guild M-240E Troubadour Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst Reviews
Guild's iconic arched back makes its return on the compact Westerly M-240E acoustic-electric. The purpose of this trademark feature is twofold: principally, it reduces weight and increases live projection; but it also pays tribute to some of Guild's popular models, like the D-25 and F-30. The result is a great-playing, easy-traveling guitar with Guild's unmistakable look. The Westerly M-240E harkens back to Guild's golden-era flat tops with some exciting vintage specs, including a concert-sized body made from premium tonewoods, a classic Guild "C"-shaped neck, and a retro red tortoiseshell pickguard. The M-240E includes the DeArmond Tone Boss soundhole pickup for a clean sound for plugging straight into a PA.

Guild M-240E Troubadour Acoustic-Electric Guitar-Vintage Sunburst
All this guitar needed out of the box was a set up and string change. Otherwise, it's perfect.
This is the one
This is a must have in your collection. I have had this guitar for about 6 weeks now. Fell in love with it when it first arrived. I have another more expensive Guild, which I love. But I keep pulling this one out. All I can say is that it has that "it" factor. With the classic Sunburst look, it sounds wonderful and is so easy to play. It is perfectly made. You may not believe this but it is the truth - it has stayed in tune all this time.
I highly recommend any Guild guitar (especially this Troubadour model). You will not be disappointed. Guild makes incredible guitars, down to the last detail. And they are reasonably priced. You get a lot for your money, especially compared to how much some other name brands cost.
My only complaint is that it should come with a gigbag. I purchased the Guild one, which is a great bag with lots of padding.
I also want to thank my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Joe Holsclaw. He's the best. Always giving me his honest opinion and answering all my questions or concerns. Kudos as well to those that inspect, setup and ship the instruments. Nobody beats Sweetwater.
Just a beginner, but I love it!
Purchased the guitar because I wanted to learn, and spend more time with two of my kids that picked up the guitar a few years back. I chose Guild because of my taste in music, understanding the artists that play Guild and tone described with the Troubadour. So far the sound is fantastic, only a day in but it has definitely motivated me.
I also have to mention the amazing customer service. Cameryn you knocked it out of the park buddy!
Troubadour fun
Playable right out of the box. The neck is incredibly comfortable and easy to play. Great fo fingerpicking. This will be my front porch guitar.
Homage to the 60's and 70's with a punch
I've tested a ton of "travel" guitars - Taylor-super nice sounding, Martin-ditto, Yamaha-cool but the Guild Troubador, the sound is just what I was looking for. For a little guy a strong, not tinny sound. I named her Grace. Also, the sound hole pick up is fab! Did I say how light weight this instrament is? Do I sound stoked? I am.
Absolutely fantastic
My new Guild M-240E Troubadour Westerly is absolutely fantastic. Very comfortable, with a powerful, full and full-bodied sound, very balanced with excellent bass, mids and treble and great resonance. When connected to my acoustic amplifier (Marshall AS100D) it has a warm, smooth and pleasant sound, thanks to the DeArmond Tone Boss Pickup.
Guild M-240E
I've always been a fan of Guild guitars having owned several other Guild acoustics and an electric. I bought this guitar because I wanted a smaller bodied guitar than my dreadnoughts for when I travel by air which is frequently. The guitar has a solid spruce top and sounds very good. It is fun to play and the sunburst top, pearloid rosette, and Guild headstock logo give it a bit of bling which is nice too. I also like the sound hole pickup so I can plug in if the opportunity presents itself to perform at an open mic event or jam with others when I am traveling. I also bought the Guild Deluxe humidified guitar case to go with it which is a very nice guitar case. I highly recommend this guitar if you are looking for a parlor sized guitar in this price range.
Great little player!
This Little Guild guitar is a joy to play! Nice setup right out of the box and it sounds great! The pickup is a real treat too :) Fun!
Guild M-240E Troubadour
This guitar is what I use on all of my acoustic-electric gigs, and I couldn't be more satified with it. It looks great, and the DeArmond pickup, which matches the pickguard, sounds good regardless of what I play it through (usually a Fishman or Roland amplifier.) Because it's small and light, it makes a perfect "couch guitar." There's no downside to either the guitar or gig bag; it's a 5.
This guitar is very cool
Sounds very deep and is super comfortable if you're not a humongous dude
Great Small Body Guitar
I've had this guitar for about 2-3 weeks now and I'm really happy with it. As with every guitar, I had to do a setup on it so it matched my playing specs. I ended up dropping the string action down to 5/64ths on the low E and 4/64ths on the high E at the 12th fret. First fret action was a bit high for me too so I made that 18 thou on all strings just like all my other guitars. I did my first gig with the guitar and everything went really well. Had no issues playing this for my 3 hour show and the electronics sound great too. The passive picktup running through my Fishman preamp really allowed the natural sound of the acoustic guitar come through. If you're looking for a nice, small body guitar and don't want to break the bank, you should give this one a try.
Great parlor
1. Parlor guitars are great.
2. Guilds are great
3. The pickup is great
Parlors have been my go to in studio and on stage for a long time. The troubadour proves (yet again) that a sub-$500 guitar does the job of a guitar three to four times the price and without sacrificing anything. This is a great work horse.
First time guitar owner and player
At 53, I decided to learn a new instrument and guitar was it. When looking for a guitar, I naturally turned to SW because my son is one of the sound engineers at SW. I sent him four guitars I was considering and he helped me to quickly narrow it down to two. One of the things he said was to pick a guitar that would inspire me to pick it up and practice it. This one was it. It's a beautiful instrument and looks very classy. I just received it the other day and have only had 30 minutes of practice on it, but for a first-time player I really like this instrument and can't wait for my proficiency to grow and make this thing sing! I'm already a Guild fan and never knew about this company until last week.
Sweet 'lil player
Love my new Guild Troubadour out of the box. This smaller size guitar is easier on my poor old injured arthritic hands and is a real treat to play. Sounds great plugged in as well.
Great bang for the buck
Needless to say it's difficult to find a lower priced instrument that meets quality standards and tone all at once, but this puppy delivers in spades.
I'm a finger style player, switching between blues and improv work.
This instrument is a terrific blues companion acoustic or plugged in. If plugged in you will love the pick up. Lively and quiet (no hum) and it also adds to the vintage look.
Spotless finish and fit. As others have said, the price point hides its quality.
I didn't have to touch the action or the neck, came out of the box like it was made for me. Very comfortable to play and overall great response from the tonewoods.
Grab one.
Great guitar
Very happy with this guitar, more then I expected for just a "couch" guitar. The build is on par with Yamaha and PRS Asian imports. The binding on both the body and neck flawless, and the fretwork is nearly so,too. Bone nut and saddle, saves me the time of changing them out. Concert body, with the bone saddle, make it very punchy in the mid range, but it seems to be mellowing out in the few weeks I've been playing it. The included pick-up is cool, harking back to the days before piezo pick-ups came along, although I probably wont use it much.
Cons ? The pick guard peeled off like a sticker, but that saved me a second step in working it off, as I don't play with a pick, and take them off anyway, Asian OR American built.
Nit picking ? I may spend a little time buffing in the "sunburst" finish, that it's a bit mellower.
Perfect
It's literally just perfect
Great customer service

Good Guitar
This is my first guitar and guitar review, I'm a drummer so sorry if I don't get some of the vernacular right. I was looking for a good first guitar in the price point and the finish really jumped out at me. When I got it and sat down with it, I fell in love with its neck profile and the action was spot on for my fingers. I plugged it into my audio interface (apollo twin) with Ableton Live and the pickup sounded incredible.
Impressive guitar
The feel of a nice high end guitar at such a great price. My first Guild acoustic and I'm very impressed. The guitar is beautiful and really nice tones all around highs, mids and bass. The pick up really works out well I can play through any amp and have not had any feedback issues. I play a lot of parlors and this has that parlor feel the arch back really seems to help the guitar project sound so it's really got a nice punch when needed . I wish it came with a case or gig bag something we all want I believe
You will not lose on this guitar it's a keeper
best concert size guitar at any price
i have searched for a concert size guitar for 2 years including buying a USA guild M-40. the neck was too wide and fat for my smallish hands so i sold it.
i also have a big USA guild D-40e dreadnought (from SW) so this M-240e fits my collection perfectly.
the only two issues i have are the bridge pins i replaced with SW graph techs and the tuners i replaced with Kluson's.
deduct 1/2 star for those and the rest is PERFECT.
if you have average to small hands BUY THIS. its a keeper.
Aptly named Troubadour
It has an affinity for tunings and the 16" radius fingerboard likes my slide play. I'm enjoying it. Surprisingly loud too.
Stunning quality for the price
Bought this guitar 8 months ago looking for a small size guitar.
stays in tune extremely well, I guess beacuase the bone nut and saddle. For me, wich I´m not used to acoustic guitar, the string gauge was a little hard and replaced it for a 11- 50 and also lowered the bridge saddle, now feels perfect.
I play most of the time unplugged but the pickup sound incredible either on acoustic amp or clean guitar amp.
Great guitar - great value
I bought this today and was instantly blown away at the tone, projection and easy of play. I haven't played anything aside from my Martin OM Rosewood in years and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The pickup is amazing, the bone nut and saddle truly make this stand out and the overall value is unrivaled. This guitar should cost $699 - buy it. This is only the second guitar I have purchased, probably out of 15, after only 30 minutes of playing it - had never heard of it before. Sounds great plugged in and on its own. If you or someone you know is looking for a first guitar, this is the one that will never be outgrown or is lacking so severely that it will need replacement once said guitarist learns some chops.
Awesome parlor with great sound
The parlor body size is extremely comfortable and the 24.75" neck plays very smooth. I picked this up as a couch strummer but I've been picking it up a lot lately because the toneboss pickup is a lot of fun. Run it through a tube amp with just a touch of dirt on it and you get a really great tone for blues.
She required a little setup work and swapped my preferred strings, but I expected that.
If you're on the fence, pull the trigger and try it!
Guild M-240E
This guitar feels nice and plays well. It sounds great plugged in and sounds pretty good when it's not plugged in especially given it's smaller body size. I would give it more stars if only it had a better finish—the color is nice but the matte finish makes it look cheap in my opinion. Otherwise, very nice parlor guitar.
Run!!!
This sounds like a tin can!! I dont know who would give this 5 stars let alone 2. Played for 10 minutes and quickly put it back in the box to return it...
Cheaply made, flimsy.
I couldn't get this back in the box to return it fast enough. Weak tone and the pickup doesn't help much either.
