My Talk Box has spoken!

I LOVE MY TALK BOX. I WISH I COULD GIVE IT MORE STARS THAN 5! SWEETWATER, YOU MAKE ME SOUND BETTER EVERYTIME I ORDER. THANKS SO MUCH!

And I don't know what it is but I know is a talk box get Guys and Girls and really fun to use

Works very well. Built Tough!

By Bill from Lake Villa, Illinois on September 14, 2023 Music Background: Been playing guitar since 1965. Playing in bars regularly.

As I am still in the novice stage with this pedal, I'm able to do a decent job with Alice in Chains "Man in the Box". I used my Morley Bad Horsie pedal before I got the MXR m222 and it just can't produce the 'womp' effect of the Talk Box. The hose takes some getting used to the for sure, but I have plenty of time to enjoy the learning curve. This effect is definitely worth the price. Our fans say it sounds great!

MXR Talk Box

GREAT!!
Having owned an original HEIL talk Box from the 70's for over 35 years, I was skeptical of the power output.
I was pleasantly surprised.
It works great, and eliminates a dedicated amp in my setup.

Nice!

Always wanted one & I love the MXR Talk Box.

Sooo Cool!

By Scott McCue from Milwaukee, WI on February 6, 2022 Music Background: Guitar Player / Gear Hoarder

This thing does exactly what I expected. Easy setup and sounds amazing. Yeah, it's a one trick pony but it's a cool trick.

awesome

By Joseph Minecci from Marietta on January 19, 2022

nice product. easy once you get used to it. lots of drool though kind of gross. nice fuzzy tone and good controls. wish it came with something to clean it

Much more user friendly than my previous talk box. No extra amp required and foot switch allows for seamless transition from talk box to amp. Plus this one doesn't rattle my teeth as bad as the last one. I use it with my keyboard. It takes practice to produce quality sound but that's part of the fun.

Great Pedal

By Roger from MD on May 13, 2021 Music Background: 53 yrs guitarist

I always wanted one of these and had a homemade version years ago. This blows away the home version but I have a lot to learn to make it work in a live situation. Oh hell, I have to practice with it. Great unit, very impressed!

The real deal

I've tried other versions of this pedal and have been disappointed by the results. This is the sound I was looking for. No regrets buying it. This is a keeper!

Great sounding talk box

By Sweetwater Customer on September 22, 2020

Fits great on pedalboard and sounds real good

Love it

By Jimiraz from Buffalo NY on September 19, 2020 Music Background: Weekend warrior

I received this as a Birthday gift from my beautiful girlfriend. I have had a Heil talk box as well for may years. I love this talk box much better than the Heil. It's awesome because it hooks up so much easier in your effects chain as opposed to between your amp and speaker. The results are the same, but better because you can control the volume much better I feel with the on board controls. I am using it currently in front of my Helix and it sounds killer and feels great. Kind of like an old hat. It fits well.

Excellent gift

MXR Talk Box

By B. Larson from Myrtle Beach SC on January 28, 2020 Music Background: professional

Sounds just like the Heil without all of the special speaker cable, re-routing, blah, blah blah! Easy hook up to your existing pedal chain and easy to work with. If you ever wanted a talk box, now is the time and this is the one!!!!

The Best Talk Box on the Planet

By Bill from New Jersey on September 28, 2019 Music Background: Professional

I have been using a talk.box since, well decades. The MXR Talk Box is the best. Very user friendly, no speaker cables required, and sounds great.
I am in an original Band that also does covers. I have used the MXR talk box both live and in the studio. It delivers the goods.

Talk the talk

By Mickey Hunkin from Del Rio, TX on July 18, 2019 Music Background: Years and years and then some.

Really cool! Adds color to the band. Super easy to set up and use. It is not that hard to learn how to manipulate the sound. So glad I got. Special thanks to Sweetwater and Nick for always having my back.

They've come a LONG way....

By Rex from Thompsons Station, TN on January 7, 2019 Music Background: Has been session player that writes/arranges

I prefer programmable pedalboards (Fractal/line6) vs. stomps, but in this instance I had to go with the stomp (MXR M222), NO PROBLEM! Remembering/using the talk boxes of yore, this thing for me is fantastic. Sure, it's a one trick pony, but man, does it deliver! WELL thought out. Integrates with my setup beautifully. Love the bypass & the gain. Blends nicely with other distortions/gains, or turn the gain on the M222 down for clean. If you need the talk box sound, it's the MXR M222 all the way. No fuss, hook it up, & go!

I purchased this and it was delivered on time and very efficient people are there to help you with any questions. The talk box itself is such a great item for those looking to have a little more fun with their guitar playing I love how crisp and clear i can switch from my main amp into the pedal so happy with my experience.

love it!

By Levi Held from Ma on December 13, 2017 Music Background: over 20 years of grooving on all kinds of instruments

I love this. ive used it my synthesizers, and guitar and sounds great and understandable when mouthing words to "sing" with it. comes with everything you need just add a microphone for recording or performing but its plenty loud enough for practice

Great talk box

By Sweetwater Customer on December 1, 2017 Music Background: 20 years as a multi instrumentalist

Does everything comes with everything sounds great. I've used it with guitars and synthesizers and it works great and once you get the hang of mouthing words it's very understandable. I recommend it if your going for a talk box. The distortion gain knob is handy but I never use it. But if you wanted an overdriven guitar you'd have to chain a separate rig with the gain knob you get a fairly decent overdrive from the talk box making it easier to use in all settings

Does the job - and well.

By Mark from San Diego, CA on June 26, 2017 Music Background: Professional guitarist for over 30 years

On a recent recording project, the producer asked for a talkbox effect on several tracks. So I dusted off my trusty Framptone talkbox - quite a beast and big sounding with lots of headroom. However, now that I am performing with a talkbox, it was more gear than I really wanted to haul around, so I started looking at self-contained, compact alternatives. The MXR M222 seemed to get good reviews, but I had two major concerns: (1) was the built-in amplifier powerful enough to drive a high enough decibel level out of the tube to provide adequate volume and good midrange EQ feeding a microphone? This is very important, because if the mic needs to be turned up on stage to compensate, feedback can be a big problem; and (2) was there enough clean headroom at sufficient volume levels to allow me to either control the amount of distortion in the talkbox sound; or feed another distortion pedal into the talkbox to tailor my overdrive tone to my liking?

I've used the M222 on a few gigs now and I can safely say "yes" on both counts. This pedal has performed wonderfully, with expressive, full tone (thanks to my secondary overdrive pedal), with no need to turn up the microphone, allowing good headroom without feedback. It is very compact and quick to set up. I also appreciate the hose-clip provided (although I suggest you bring a strip or two of velcro to fine-tune the position on the mic. This one is a keeper.

MXR M222 TALK BOX

This is a very sturdy and well built device! I'm impressed on how great this thing works! Not much of a learning curve here, pretty easy. Funny though, if the tube is near a filling on your tooth, it might rattle! All in all, a very nice talk box, go get yours!!

After hearing this on You Tube and seeing this on Don Felder's pedal board, I figured it was a no brain er !
This is a great product, sounds as good as I thought it would be, and Sweetwater got it out to me in 2 days! Built solid, and the built in amp is amazing! Thanks to Nick for getting this out to me quick! I've been buying from Sweetwater for over 10 years now, and I have never had a problem at all! Love working with the people here!

Awesome and easy to use

By Bull Sanders from NJ on April 7, 2017

I have used a Heil Talk Box for decades. It started getting tempermental on me so I decided to give the MXR a shot. It is easier to hook up, sounds great and has a light to let you know it is on and you can adjust tone, volume and gain. It sounds awesome and is light years ahead of the original Talk Box. Thank you MXR and Sweetwater for the fast delivery.

Way too much fun

By Brian Luehr from Montana on March 21, 2017

This talkbox is incredible. The tone and gain controls give you extensive control over your tone. It overall is just so fun and wilk be an extremely fun journey to sound like zapp and roger

Better than the Original

By Bill Sanders from New Jersey on March 15, 2017 Music Background: Professional Writer and Performer

I have used a Heil Talk Box for decades. Recently I have been playing in smaller venues where I can not take two amps. However I have still gotten request to play "Frampton Songs" where I need a talk box. So I thought I would give the MXR Talk Box a try. Wow , it is excellent easier to set up and use than the original and it sound great. I will use it now at larger venues as well. Thanks MXR for making an awesome product.

24 KARAT Magic

By John OBrien from California on February 7, 2017 Music Background: Working musician, home studio for hobby and some light work.

No. This won't make you sound exactly like that, but if you spend time on multiple tracks and producing it, then, yes, it can be done. Live, this takes time to learn, it is not as easy as it looks, and you have to think about your word choice. That said, WOW what a great tool. Best sound to pipe through it is the basic saw wave (I use TAL's virtual Juno 60, sounds great!). I had to learn not to turn it up so much that more than one note played would distort. Also, the note separation is important, the highest note being the one you want to express the most, the 24 Karat sound is accomplished with the harmonies happening on the notes below the melody. I was surprised how big it was, actually, and I place it where I can adjust it live. Great for studio use, even to have in the background (subtly) to give electronic music a cool sound. Anyway, nice addition, and I don't see it gathering dust as some other purchases have.

Blew Away My Band

By Jeff Wells from MO on January 24, 2023 Music Background: most of my life, playing in cover bands and church

This thing does what it's supposed to do. At a recent rehearsal, we ran through a certain Joe Walsh song, and when it came time for the solo, everyone just stopped and listened to this thing. It made a few more cover songs attainable for us.

Set up is easy. Just have the tube attached to your mic and you're ready to go. Folks that hear it think you're some kind of guitar (or keyboard, or whatever) master because you can make the thing talk.

Bottom line: if you need it for a song or two, get it. You won't be dissappointed.

MXR talkbox

By Mike Johnson from Valdosta GA on January 17, 2022

Just got mine from Sweetwater the other day . FUN FUN FUN!!!!! Ashton my Sales Engineer got it out quick to me and it's been a blast playing this thing . It's well constructed for sure . Very loud . Easy to use . The only thing that could be improved on is it needs a little more drive. But overall this thing rocks and helps you get your Frampton /Sambora on .

Great product

By Tim on October 1, 2019 Music Background: Guitar player 30 yrs

This talk box is definitely built solid. It's going to hold up to road use. I bought this talk box to expand my guitar effects and the band I'm currently in wanted to do Peter Framton..and obviously Peter Framton = talk box. After using this talk box it's exactly what I needed and expected except one thing which is why I gave it 4.5 stars. The gain( distortion) is really like a fuzz box sound. It needs more aggressive distortion but it works for what is . Ill just put a distortion pedal in front of it if I want more aggressive gain. Other than that this talk box is great and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for one. Easy to use and set-up. As with anything else, takes a little practice to make it(and you) "talk". Pretty easy to figure out after playing around with the tube and mouth movement.

Exactly what I wanted

By Ido from NYC on February 20, 2017 Music Background: Music producer

I was thinking a lot about which talk box to get,
Now that I got the MXR I don't regret it.
It sounds amazing and the pedal is solid, I mean really solid! Like a tank.

The only con there is here, is the size and and weight.
But all talk box are like that.
I would recommend to anyone who want that organic robotic sound.

MXR M222 Talk Box

By Sweetwater Customer on November 24, 2015

It's worth a try.
Fun to play with.

You'll be happier if you use an EQ pedal directly before the M222 in the signal chain in order to get the most out of the M222.

Guitars / Instruments with higher output (for example a Humbucker LP type of guitar) will tend to push this pedal hard to the point where it just does not sound pleasing anymore in the high frequency range.

The M222 is best utilized with as few effects before it as possible (except the EQ).

HARD WORK

I like it

By Adam from Colorado on April 15, 2020 Music Background: Full time professional

Well i replaced my Banshee 2 for the simple reason of downsizing my gigging board/rig for the 2020 season.
For obvious reasons my gig year has been put on hold so i cant speak to how the new MXR talkbox will perform.
But it sounds good at least through the tube to my ears, is simpler feature wise, is a smaller footprint on my board, and the tube is brand new and doesn't look like an old algae covered fish tank hose now :-)
If I can get back to gigging in 2020 i believe this was a good purchase for me!

Talk box

By Bryan from Oklahoma on August 6, 2018 Music Background: 35 years of guitar

I bought this to replace my home made talk box (park amp plugged into a small horn driver with a hose shoved into it). While it is quite a good talk box, it just doesn't sound as good as my home made one. haha.

Man With the Box

By jonesey from Seattle, West Coast, US of A. on January 2, 2022 Music Background: Record Producer

Yep. Talk boxes feel like they're built solid because it's a horn driver with a tube stuffed into it. It's a novelty, but the price is right. Just another tool for creativity when you can't find the perfect tone for a tag, lift, or bridge, this unit could save the day. It's good to pack these kind of f/x into the studio if you're a hired gun. You will get callbacks.

How it works

By Sweetwater Customer on June 16, 2020

Just so y'all know you we need a P.A. For this effect. And while you have to turn on the foot switch, the amp will go silent And the sun will come out to the PA and the tube that will then feed into the P a microphone. And it does the jobs. I hope all this makes sense to everyone I try to help.

Mxr talk box

By Sweetwater Customer on September 29, 2015

Being a long time user of the rocktron banshee I found the pedal to take up a lot of space on my pedalboard. The Mxr fits nicely on my board. Great success! But it lacks the tone control of the banshee . On the plus side it has more volume which is great when your house sound is lacking a good monitor system.looks cool and built very solid.the tube clip eliminated the need for duct tape and makes for easy adjusting

Disappointed!

By Tolen from Houston, TX suburb on May 12, 2022 Music Background: In excess of fifty years (sax, flute and original compositions) music..

Perhaps I misunderstood the device's capability. I assumed that a person could simply speak, sing, etc. into the plastic tubing without the necessity of playing the same notes on a keyboard. Unless I'm mistaken, this device is, essentially, a vocoder, which I already have on my Korg keyboard/synthesizer. Waste of $...
