The New Centerpiece Of My Signal Chain

By Colin D. from Houston, TX
Music Background: Hobbyist Recording/Mixing

As a long-time user of RME converters, I've come to expect not only exceptional sonic results, but also a design and UI that strike the right balance between accessibility and flexibility. The M-1620 Pro D delivers on these expectations and more.

I was particularly interested in the Dante capabilities of the unit, as recent changes in my space necessitated moving my CPU to another room, accessible only by CAT6 connections. Because I prefer standalone conversion and preamps, I decided to explore a simple Dante network with the M-1620 D instead of finding extenders for my interface. Within an hour or so, I had the Dante Virtual Sound card and Controller installed, and the M-1620 D connected. I am now mixing in ProTools with my interface powered off and disconnected, and things are sounding great! I recognize that this may not be the intended use of the unit, but am quite happy with the flexibility it has afforded my setup, and I'm looking forward to exploring more!
