I needed another kick drum mic like I need another hole in my head and got this guy anyway. I even have a couple home made sub kicks lol. Now on to my review, I love the xlr port and that this is gained up to match what popular kick drum mics are using for output. I do love that it has a way to attach it to a mic stand (it is heavy and will likely need to add weight to whatever stand you use).

It does exactly what I want it to do and is easier to position. From what I have experienced it's lighter than other similar mics that is made like this.

Definitely handles the job, although I feel I have other modern kick drum mics that can do what this adds with a single mic. I recommend it if you need it or have been thinking about getting it. I feel it's a preference thing.

Back in the 1990s, before they were trendy... I had a Yamaha SubKick. While it was cool, it was big and heavy and covered most of the front head of the bass drum. Eventually, it stopped working and I ended up selling it to another drummer when I moved across the country.

Now that I have a new home studio, I wanted a subkick-type mic again, but something smaller and easier to place than the Yamaha was. The Solomon LoFReQ is a great choice! Its a lot smaller than the SubKick, and even with the smaller speaker, it still has a huge low end response. In fact, its small enough to be able to fit it in with both a kick in and kick out mic. Very handy.

Where the Yamaha was sometimes picky about which mic it was paired with, I find the Solomon really complements and pairs well with all of my current kick mics, a 90s-era AKG D112, a 70s-era Sennheiser MD421-N and a Shure Beta 52A.
I have also used the LoFReQ on a bass cabinet, paired with a Shure 545D and it really gives a lot of OOMPH to bass as well! I even used it to mic a speaker playing a track mix, for a special effect.

Considering the very reasonable price, high build quality and really great sound, having one of these in my mic cabinet is a real pleasure.
