Electro-Harmonix x JHS Lizard Queen Octave Fuzz Pedal Reviews

Fuzz Guitar Pedal with Analog Octave Up, Balance Control, and True Bypass

A collaboration between Electro-Harmonix, JHS Pedals, and acclaimed artist/illustrator Daniel Danger, the Lizard Queen is a fire-breather of an octave fuzz pedal straight out of EHX’s early ’70s golden age. The Lizard Queen has a fully blendable analog octave-up effect that will take you anywhere from a slight clang to maxed-out, vintage-octave madness. In lieu of a standard tone control, the Lizard Queen’s Balance knob features two distinct sonic voices at each end of the knob’s spectrum, functioning as a hybrid tone/gain control that unlocks myriad hard-clipped sounds to savor. The Lizard Queen pedal features a fixed-level fuzz circuit fine-tuned for maximum wall-of-sound might. For an idea that began life as a vintage-inspired daydream between JHS founder Josh Scott and Daniel Danger, the EHX Lizard Queen is truly a top-class octave fuzz pedal that’s earned its regal reptile status in the Electro-Harmonix pedal pantheon!

Fantastic vintage octave fuzz

By Sweetwater Customer from NY, NY on August 11, 2023

I have a few octave fuzz pedals and this is my favorite! It could be because it's the latest pedal. For screaming octave 70's type distortion, this is my new go to. It just has IT!

EH -Lizard Queen

I bought it to use with my Crumar Mojo -Hammond Organ clone--it works GREAT-NASTY DEEP PURPLE type organ with BITE-works on the synth bass and electric piano in the Mojo -I get some CRAZY sounds out of it--Highly Recommended----!!!!

Incredible octave fuzz tone!!!

By Bigboiii from NYC, NY on July 10, 2023

I'm thinking there was a bad batch sent out causibg all those one star reviews because I own 5 fuzz pedals and this is by far my favorite! It's versatile and cleans up well when you dial back the volume. I have zero complaints. I also own the limited big box version and although you have to dial it in differently you can still achieve the same incredible sounds. Great job ehx and jhs! Lizard Queen!!!

A great pedal but watch your signal chain

By Greg on July 3, 2023

I have the big and small box version and both are awesome. I own and have owned most versions of fuzz and octave fuzz pedals and this one stands on its own. I am writing primarily due to the negative reviews, if you run this after a buffer then it definitely impacts the sound. The shrill or sharp sound is a thing but I have only found it when I run it after my tuner which has a buffer.

Long live the Lizard Queen!!!

I am happy to report that the hype is freaking real surrounding this pedal. I knew it would be cool, and I ordered almost immediately knowing that, but I didn't realize how much I would love this fuzz box. It may be my favorite fuzz now! The "mad genius" otherwise known as, Josh at JHS pedals, as per freakin' usual knocked it out of the park with this fun, unique, awesomely thick and heavy sounding fuzz/distortion that never was, but could of been, and is now a real thing. haha! I love octave fuzzes and this one is just a fantastically fun one to play. There are no bad sounds in it!

The Lizard Queen has a good amount of versatility too because the octave is dialable to your preference and it cleans up nicely as well. Most other octave fuzzes, the octave is just a toggle switch rather than here its a pot. It's super cool to be able to juice that octave as much or as little as I prefer. The fuzz control is internally maxed which honestly does not bother me one bit. After all, this is basically as big muff circuit and I always run a muff or fuzz maxed anyways! It does rhythms and leads equally well although I prefer the latter with the queen. It is a PERMANENT addition to my pedal board, and I love it so much! This is my 2nd JHS pedal and I'm sure there are many more I will add to my collection in the future. Thanks to the guys at JHS for creating such an awesome concept while executing it perfectly!

Lizard Queen rules the "Fuzzland"

She has arrived and has indeed lived up to the hype. Super fun fuzz, not noisy, and a blast. The Octave and Balance controls really feed off of each other in unique ways. You can find a ton of variety here coupled with clever use of your guitar's volume and tone controls, the fuzz is mighty. My favorite Fuzz of all time in fact.

Still love my TC Honey Pot don't get me wrong, and feel these compliment each other well on my board. Gets really wild when you start combining stuff.

Great job Josh, Daniel, and all at JHS and EHX for bringing the magic to life. Time to create some new songs and sounds with it,the skies the limit. Thanks again to Sweetwater for another successful transaction. My fav place to buy gear.

Bow to the Lizard Queen and she will take you on a ride you'll not soon forget. Masterpiece.

second, or third, after the tuner ( a PCB trimmer pot would have been nice )

By Sweetwater Customer on December 18, 2023

tuners don't have level controls;
so,
unless your pickup heat sets the fuzz perfectly to your taste, you will have to think of something to put before it.

my pickups are hot, and it's a bit much fuzz..so i have to run it second after my tuner,
and use that level to control the fuzz.

Good Fuzz but consider trying it with first.

I love fuzz pedals and I think JHS and EHX are two of the leading pedal companies in this field so when Josh introduced the concept, I was extremely excited. First of all, it doesn't disappoint and you can get very interesting decent fuzz tones out of it. BUT... there is a huge but here- You probably would need to stack this with other pedals or find the right combination with other pedals to get the max out of this pedal. I understand why many other reviewers felt there might be something wrong with this pedal. But if you match it with another fuzz, boost, distortion, or overdrive and figure out the right setting this pedal sounds amazing!

Great fuzz

By Ian D from PA on May 8, 2023 Music Background: hobbyist, songwriter

This thing rules! I was looking for an octave fuzz when this thing came out and it definitely does the gnarly octave fuzz thing, but it's more versatile than expected thanks to the sun and shade tone control. The pedal is very responsive to the guitar's volume knob, but I would recommend turning the octave down or off for that. Overall a solid addition to my collection but I think the Keeley fuzz is still my favorite

Decent

By Michael Bailey from Dayton, OH on November 24, 2023

Decent piece of gear for the price, just not quite the sound I personally was looking for. Don't let that discourage you from trying it though.

Disappointing

By Sweetwater Customer on October 17, 2023

Just makes incoherent noise, not a good fuzz tone at all. I returned it.

Lizard Queen Peda;

By Sweetwater Customer on July 20, 2023

Except for the volume knob, the other knobs act more like compressor controls and you cannot hear any difference in the tonal spectrum of the pedal. There is barely any distortion at all. There is no sustain. The knobs do literally nothing to the tone. It's one sound and your notes get muffled and cut off. Too many notes and it just turns to crap. I was so jacked about this pedal and I loved the demo'ing in the videos but, this is a hard pass for me. I will be returning it. Find a Dunlop Way Huge Swollen Pickle fuzz. Amazing pedal.

Unfortunately useless

By Nick on July 3, 2023

Barely a fuzz, all bitcrush.
Screechingly awful, not even a useful tone in ANY situation. Could never even imagine using this in a gig setting, MAYBE in a incredibly niche small piece in a song but truly has no real use. I was SO excited about a JHS x Electro Harmonix collab especially something so unique like a fuzz/octave but boy was I mislead. The octave knob either makes it sound bad or badder, and the shadow/sun knob in either direction sounds like possibly the worst screeching, zero sustain, awful "fuzz" I've ever heard in my life. I'd give this half a star if I could, but I don't even think it's worth that. Please save your time waiting on the back orders (like I didn't) and especially your money and buy literally any other fuzz pedal on the market. Even a line 6 or an Amazon basics guitar pedal would be more useful than this..

A. Total Disappointment

By Martin K from San Antonio, TX on June 30, 2023

The pedal has a constant screeching noise and it's hard to tell if it really does anything. Not sure if it's a quality control issue or just a poor design.

Nothing but Shrill

By Sweetwater Customer on June 28, 2023

I bought and returned it.

Granted I think I got a dud. No matter what I did, it sounded like I was playing on a Strat bridge pickup with the tone knob set to "make my ears bleed"

Again, I think it was a dud as all the demos I have seen sounded very different.

Buy something good, not this

By Sweetwater Customer on May 19, 2023

Garbage, it pulls the overdrive out of my amp. It's completely over compressed. It's what I expect when a nice clean company like JHS makes a pedal.

This pedal is a fuzz pedal for people who think vanilla ice cream is too spicy.

They put a generic fuzz together and slapped a stoner rock name on it.
