EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 Octave Distortion + Booster Reviews
The EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 is a heavy, crushing octave distortion tailor-made for droning, metallic textures. This ratty-sounding dirt pedal houses a tweaked version of its predecessor's circuit, along with a third footswitch with Flexi Switch Technology for extended real-time control of the octave effect. The distortion side of the Life Pedal V3 features Distortion, Filter, and Amplitude knobs for dialing in your grindage, while an Octave knob blends the analog octave-up effect with your signal. A footswitchable Magnitude function, which is EarthQuaker's clever name for an all-discrete MOSFET booster, dishes out all the punishment your amplifier can handle. You also get a 3-position Clip knob for tailoring the stompbox to your rig. If you dig the ear-splitting guitar tones on Sunn O)))'s Life Metal album, the Life Pedal V3 belongs on your short list — it delivers down-tuned, drone-metal riffage by the truckload.

One of the best pedals I’ve ever owned.
This pedal does everything you expect it too… and more. There are so many sounds you can get out of this thing and so many knobs and filters/amounts of certain things to mess with. Plus this pedal works extremely well with other pedals, helping to make an even more monstrous bassy tone.
EQD Never disappoints
Very versatile and fun pedal! Capable of subtle fuzz tones, Rat tones, and complete devastation! Great pedal!
Praise The SUNN O)))
Fantastic pedal. Easily does the SUNN O))) thing. But definitely not a one-trick-pony. Surprisingly versatile.
If I could only have one pedal, this would be it (((O)))
I was looking to replace my Rat Distortion and I like the ProCo versions that are out now, just fine. Then this thing came out. I like the idea that this was a production version and not a geranium like the V2. Not that the V2 didn't sound good, I just prefer workhorse pedals over boutique stuff, if they are too valuable or rare and hard to replace, I tend to let them sit in a box. At any rate, this seemed to me like it may replace a few things I had on my board. It really does. I pulled four pedals off when I put this on and haven't looked back. It does sounds like Sunn O))) extremely well and I play a lot of drone, as I can make all the noise I want where I practice. This pedal is so much more than just a heavy gain monster. I play with a ridiculous amount of gain. Seriously, it's ridiculous, that's why I got this. But when I started exploring low gain sounds with the pedal, it was even more interesting than a double Rat style circuit with a boost and octave. They've got something really special here. I am more and more impressed with EarthQuaker devices all the time. If I could only have one pedal, this would be it without a doubt. Sweetwater was great as always, they had this in stock when no one else did and it showed up quick.
UNREAL
I got this awesome pedal last Friday and it blows the s#*t out of all my high end distortion pedals. The white rat sound is just amazing. You do not have to be a groupie of the Sunn band (which they are great by the way) but you can get really anything out of this pedal. 60db of gain boost!! Holy smokes. The octave is not as wide as you would think but is streamlined to be well, just perfect and not harsh. Running this pedal thru a Peavey XXL head on the clean channel is just bone crushing as well as running thru my Marshall DSL100H tube head. Walls literally shaking and photos flying everywhere off the walls. Just an incredible pedal from Earthquaker. Thanks to Chris Cruz for sending this out so quick and to Sweetwater for having this in their lineup.
Impressive Versatility
Like most people I'm sure, I picked this up for the brutal drone metal tones which it does very well. However with the distortion turned down its a great dirty or clean boost (or both at once!) and the octave blend lets you bring it in just enough that it adds some color without making chords unintelligible. I was a little worried about finding space for it on my board but since it allowed me to ditch my clean boost and a fuzz pedal I was using as a dirty boost it really justifies the space. It could actually replace my normal rat (obviously) too but I'm having too much fun deafening myself with a wall of distortion by running the life pedal into the rat.
Great for non metal applications
I used this box at practice last night, I play in a Rock band. The symmetrical setting paired with the boost and a little octave mixed in here and there was a true delight. I am able to take three pedals off my board and replace them with the life pedal. I am so excited to own this great piece of gear! Thanks to my SE Jeff Jent, you are the man!
My favourite pedal on my board
This is the most used and most versatile pedal on my board. It definitely takes some time to dial in the tone for exactly what you're trying to accomplish sonically, but once it's there, it's there. I will say that I wish there was a switch to allow the booster to be placed before the distortion side, but it's honestly not that big of a deal. Does it doom? Yes!! But p.s..... it does black metal a bit better!!
