6.5" x 14" Steel Snare Drum with 2.3mm Triple-flanged Hoops

Are you searching for an affordable, great-sounding, cool-looking snare drum? The Ludwig Supralite Snare Drum offers you all of that. The Supralite is built with high-quality components — 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops, chrome-plated brass lugs, and brass snare wires. And it sounds great, too. Its highly mirror-polished, 1mm beaded steel shell pops with visual flash and a snappy attack with broad midrange overtones. Plus, the Ludwig Supralite Snare drum is well-priced to fit just about any equipment budget.

Ludwig Supralite

By ab b.

Out of the box, Supralite 14 x 6.5 helps delivers excellent press rolls. Maybe why the orchestral guys like it. A Wow. It's a Big sounding snare overall. Hot. Something to work with . Little sloppy, thin & unfocused sounding. Thinner shell. The Ludwig head is quality. Feels about like an Ambassador coated. Be nice if they told us more about that head.
IMO it wanted treatment for focus and midrange . Put a Diecast aluminum hoop on top and a Remo Ambassador coated X on (12 mil - the ambassador coated is 10 mil) Did a blind test for the musician pals a Supraphonic and a Black Beauty vs this Adjusted Supralite.
All thought a serious contender in the adjusted state. No apologies for anything, Very good. The extra cost of a diecast hoop for focus and drum head enhancing midranges put it into contention with drums costing many hundreds more ? Yes.
Get it and work it the way you like. Bang for the Buck, A very good deal.

Excellent value.

Music Background: 45 years of playing all sorts, from orchestra and marching band to rock, jazz, country, disco, R&B, etc..

This is drum made in Taiwan. Let's get that out of the way first so that anyone with preconceptions regarding that can understand that the "cheap Asian made" stigma is misplaced when it comes to the idea that it's automatically poor quality. The hardware is cheap, but the most important component, the shell, is the same design concept as USA made Ludwig drums. It's well constructed, with all the other components precisely fitted to maximize form and function. I have plenty of snare drums, mostly high end Ludwig, that this drum compares to quite favorably. The sound, response and playability is excellent. You simply cannot find a better sounding snare drum for... bucks, I would be willing to bet on that. I have three of these in different sizes. 14x8, 14x6.5 and 14x5. There is also a 15x5, and I believe a 13x5. I use them in live situations depending on venue, and in studio, for all different genres. It can also depend on my mood that day. Sometimes I just have to bring one along if I am playing my LM402 on any given night as a back-up, or vise versa. I don't worry about a fall off in sound quality in either case. I see that some folks have had issues with tension rods falling out. I have not had that happen with any of my Supralites yet.. It wouldn't surprise me if it did though, it's happened to me numerous times with other drums. But so far so good with any of my Ludwig snares. This is a tremendous value. I don't see myself regretting buying these drums, even if stuff does fall off during play.

My Ludwig Supralite (5.5" x 14")

By "Carvelli" (. from Maryland
Music Background: Drummer for 40 years: played with many orchestras, concert bands, stage bands, marching bands, groups, etc...

This is an amazing drum. The sound/tone is wonderful and the tuning range is excellent; and it stays in tune. I've been using mine free of any issues with my kit four over a year with the stock heads and snare wires. Ludwig hit it out of the park with this one!

Poorly constructed

By Sweetwater Customer

Sounds good initially, but the lugs are stripping out. Tuning involves picking them up off the carpet below the drum.
